  • @Patriot1776ization oops maybe not,i thought i did at first

  • Oh my God do I still love love this song! It is just as haunting as when I first heard it in early 70's.

  • I always thought it sounded like a Carly Simon song. Smooth voice!

  • what was funny....this group was popular during my early teens.....knew the songs.....then many years later.....found out our family doctor of years was...."Buddy" Brafield of Ozark Mountain Daredevils fame....lol

  • I always thought a girl was singing this

  • @northernlitez1 Likewise, I thought this for over 30 years! What a shock I got when I found out the percussionist was the singer...

  • For a long time, I thought the song had a woman vocalist. God bless.

  • Is it me or does the drummer look like McCartney?

  • @scarrmd he kinda does now that i think about it

  • He's cute.

  • Who doesn't remember sitting on their parents couch making out to this song. Good times for sure.

  • at 2:34, cannabis on the drumset

  • now this is what i call great music and thiers no way todays crap can compair to this stuff

  • 1975... TWA flight from Chicago to SFO. Remember those cheesy earphones, and you had "channels" to choose from? The only one that worked at my seat was the channel that played this song and three others that I can't remember. I had never heard this song before that flight, and afterward, did not want to hear it again! It's an OK song - just not on "REPEAT" for four hours.

  • CoasttoCoast bumper song. I always thought this was a woman singing. Great song.

  • I have to admit, this is a pretty decent song, but it looks like I am not the only one who thought that was a female on lead vocals. Of course the context in which I heard this song led me to that conclusion. Back in 1980 my father taped some music from Q107 out of DC. This song was on that tape, as was "You Make Loving Fun" by Fleetwood Mac and "Magic Man" by Heart, both of which featured female vocalists with the same exact range as this guy in Ozark Mountain Daredevils.

  • Call me crazy or something (but I know it's not him), but that drummer/singer looks like Dennis Wilson...Doesn't he? LOL!

  • Maybe not the Eagles... But the guitar-work is pretty fine by any standard, 70's or any other decade.

  • @ChuckNorrisKratosLOL me too always thought that, lol,, hear the new tune by Foster the people? faster than my bullet? same thing,, totally thought it was a braud ,, LoL

  • @frankenboston I can't help but wonder if dude didn't grow the beard because on more than 1 occasion (probably the drunk guy sreaming for Freebird all night) looked up and was like "that's a chick! She's hot! I am going home with her tonight!" Hell, he even accessorizes!

  • I'll tell you this; Not bad, BUT, thhey're not The Eagles. Nice try!

  • Comment removed

  • @kja427 No their not The Eagles, their much better!

  • Senior Year in high school. Sports - Girls - Fast Cars - and The Best Rock Ever! If I find a way to go back I'm going. Anybody going with me?

  • @hotstuffandicecream

My senior year also and my friends pinned the nickname Jackie Blue on me so fast and hard that it has stuck with me to this day only its been shortened to just plain Blue I've performed the Blues as Jackie Blue became a Mother it changed to Mama Blue then Gramma Blue! hahaha The funny thing is ...I'm a very happy person!

Let me know when you plan on going back I'll hitch a ride!! ROAD TRIP!!! hahaha ;D

  • @hotstuffandicecream hell yeah

  • @hotstuffandicecream Not me, my school years sucked

  • @hotstuffandicecream just say the word bro

  • @hotstuffandicecream I'm ready !!!!!!! Lets go !!!!

  • @hotstuffandicecream I'm with you brother!

  • People in the 70's had the ugliest hair styles. And whats up with that hair all over their faces?...

  • @jhchouston Oh yeah ever hear of the eighties?

  • Nice slide work

  • who would not like this song?

  • @ChuckNorrisKratosLOL i heard this song a million times and i thought the same

  • In the DAYS INN in Ozark, Arkansas now and cant believe such gold came from such a dumpy little crap bumfuck town . The only thing to do here is eat at the KFC or watch traffic roll by on I40...cant motorcycle back to NYC fast enough.

  • this song is soooo awesome. that hypnotic guitar riff is timeless,.

  • yeah I thought the singer was a chick too. Didn't expect to see Richard Harris, though. I like his obsessive cymbal play at the end - I forgot about that nifty ending.

  • @turquoiseeyedlady Well, I hope you cheer up soon. : )

  • OOO OOO HOOOOooOO JACKIE BLUUUUUU...!

  • Oh how I remember listening to this at the Red Bird Smoke Shop. Missing class to hang out .

    Oh were those the days.

  • I always knew it was a guy singing this. I like his voice and I love this song.

  • i always loves this song

  • Hm. I always heard a guy's voice. A very nice one to be sure, but definitely a man. But I also listen to Yes, and Jon Anderson also can sound like a girl at times, so maybe I'm just used to distinguishing difficult voices.

  • I always thought this was a woman singing too!

  • THE JACKIE "O" SONG! REALLY.

  • I'm one of the many persons who have ever heard this that thought it was a woman singing...still a good song.

  • Larry Lee was the original vocalist when the song was recorded and released. It seems quite a few people thought he was a she! He just had a great high tenor voice. OMD was a very talented bunch of friends from Springfield Mo.

  • Is this guy lip syncing, did the girl who orginally sang this song die?

  • We tormented this poor girl named Jackie in a 7:00 AM Organic Chem class until she got so pissed she transfered to another class. What great asshole fun that was.

  • @maveric23100 Hahaha nice!

  • yeah, one of the worst lead guitar players ever...must of hurt this band..

  • allways thought the singer was a chick (for the last 30 years) .now im pissed i found this video.. also by this live version i didnt know the guitar player didnt know he was in a band...

  • dude had an interesting sound, liked it a lot...

  • ozark mountain hillbillies

  • kool

  • Tommy_Cooper is a faggot.

  • Before I saw this video, I thought the lead vocalist was a woman!

  • GREAT SONG FROM MY JR. HIGH DAYS.....PEACE MAN.

  • most excellent guitar solo!

  • This is what my bf called me in hs. We started talking again after all these yrs and thats the first thing he called me. Damn

  • Love this song. First heard it when I was 6 in the 70's. Thought it was a girl singing all this time til I seen this video. No matter still a great, one of kind song.

  • Post punk rock it has been illegal to write good songs and be able to play your instruments. Dance music (rave , techno etc) and plastic R&B (chav music)has has forced all good music off the airwaves.

  • I actually lost my virginity to this song.We had the record on repeat and it played and played and played and...................................

Thanks for bringing back the memory.

  • @sandgrownen .......Hmmmmmmm? I don't recall a "REPEAT" mode on 8Track or Cassette. Am I wrong? Great about the loss of the virginity though! ; )

    PEACE

  • @ddesign63

The record players of old had a repeat capacity and the LP just went back to the beginning again. It was great.I still automatically know which song follows which on this LP.

It is burnt into my brain.

  • @sandgrownen ..........omg....you are absolutely Right! I has forgotten. God, I am Old now. : (

Wish I could go back in a TimeMachine!

    PEACE

  • "music " sorry

  • how many artiest or band have a lead singer whos a drummer. (in one single song) i make musice myself and can play the drums and some what sing, but hands down to this group.

  • I tell you what this is a classic pure and simple

  • A great band needs to do a great cover of this... just sayin.

  • @JackOfKills101 No one else could do it justice though.

  • it's not slayer but it still awesome

  • I always thought it was chunky blue L O L

  • this song makes me want to rollerblade across the country

  • This song is like crack or heroin.

  • Anything they have done is great. I dont care what it is.

  • I always thought it was a woman singing too

  • @richro65 me too !!! for years even....what a great voice.

  • this was one of my fav songs when it came out... I was in like 4th grade I think.

  • masterdebating on me sofa to dis album bak in '75 I member lak it wuz yestuday ...... arrrrr

  • hey alexbn051 i hope you get a life someday and realize the the sounds and songs of the 70" influenced the rockers of that time and also the people,so give credit where credit is due

  • CLASSIC!!!!! REAL MUSIC!!! REAL INSTRUMENTS,,REAL MUSICIANS, NO TECHNO STUDIO SHIT,,,JUST REAL MUSICIANS WITH NATURAL TALENT!!

  • I thought this was a female singer for sure before I saw the video

  • belle découverte

  • In case you're the last person on the planet not to know how unimportant bands like Molly Hatchet, 38 specical and all that southern-fried rock crap was, and the most over-rated song of all time "Fire Bird". Let's just say, nobody listens to any of that garage anymore, not even classic boring rock stations.

  • This is a nice song! I heard it on the radio once and remembered it now and had to hear it again.

  • Lynard Skynard dose not belong on that list. Sorry but "Jimi Hendrix" should be on that list and is by far R&R's greatest guitarist, even Clapton, Page and Beck will tell you that.

  • @SuperRusty1955 what the heck--skynrd were a band of monster musicans and guitar players, they were up there with moolly Hrtchet, Band, Allman. YOu know shit

  • Respond to this video... TAKE IT FROM SOMEONE WHO LISTENS TO wAR cHILD BY heNDRIX AND THE cHITLIN FRIENDS

  • Will someone please upload, "If I Only New", by The Ozark Mountain Daredevils. It is one of my favorites by the band and I can't seem to find it.

  • one of the sexiest songs

  • wrong? um no levon helm is the bands drummer and vocals. The group The Band with Garth Hudson,Levon Helm, Robbie Robertson, Rick Danko

  • levon helm from the band sings and drums too

  • Who doesn't like this song? Are they sick?!?!

  • @Halimaw74

They are children of their society and culture. Poor bastards.

  • @Halimaw74 They dated Jackie Blue.I was six years old when this song came out.I loved it.Still do.

  • @Capcoor I was the same as well.... My mom bought me the single of this song along with 'Little Willy' and 'Come and Get Your Love' in '74. Christ, what happened to that purity in music. Thank God we had the opportunity to experience phenomenal tunes back then.... a dream ago.

  • @CHHSE1986 Buddha, I agree.

  • @CHHSE1986 music today isnt what it used to be, pink floyd the beatles the doors all great bands never to be known by the fools of today, tho there are are some amazing bands today happening, many in scandinavia, like Jaga Jazzist, which id say is one of the greatest jazz influenced bands ive heard , Esbjorn Svensson Trio, one of the greatest jazz piano players of our modern day, Hidria Spacefolk, Bonobo, dear god, music is beatiful in all genres and styles

  • @tool098098 I've been digging the prog rock bands like, Pendragon, Spock's Beard, Porcupine Tree, that still harvest from '70's musicianship, melody and song writing....

  • Amen brother

  • I'm so glad you put this video up. I like to actually see the artists perform their song. Ozark Mountain Daredevils rock.

  • Just heard this Jawn on the weather Channel lmao WEATHER AND MUSIC LIFE GETS NO BETTER !!!!

  • great song

  • Charles hamilton anyone?

  • I never knew the drummer was singing - it always amazes me to see that - it's not easy to do both!

  • @TrixieinDixie I totally agree with you. I love to see drummers as the singers because I can appreciate the music that much more. I saw a music video a couple years ago (music actually from way before then) where the drummer also sang and I was wowed. Yet I can't remember who it was. Been trying to track it down since.

  • @Gabzthevamp Of course Phil Collins sang when he was with Genesis... other than him, the other one that comes to mind is the drummer from The Romantics - don't know if he sang all the time, as I only remember the song "What I Like About You."

  • @TrixieinDixie Hm. I know it's not Genesis/Phil Collins, but I'll check out the Romantics. Thanks. I think I remeber he was kind of dressed like a biker or he just looked like he could kick your ass. They were also in a studio.

  • @Gabzthevamp The video is here on YouTube - I tried to put the link in my response but I kept getting an error.

  • @TrixieinDixie No worries, I'll definitely check it out though. You would be my hero if that ended up being the video. Hahah.

  • @TrixieinDixie levon helm from the band sang and played drums too.

  • @devilfan1965

Sorry but you're wrong. It was and still is Larry Lee. Google it....

  • @devilfan1965 Thanks for the reply - I just went and checked out some of the vids available here on YT - another band I knew, but didn't really know.... before there was MTV (pre-1981) the only way you could see bands playing their songs was on tv shows, or in concert, if you were old enough to go to concerts... had I seen the movie The Last Waltz, I would have seen Levon singing... but hey, now I know, all these years later!

  • @Gabzthevamp Check out Grand Funk Railroad We're An American Band. The drummer sings and slams them drums raw especially the beginning part with that classic cowbell triplet opening. Watch the live version on YT

  • @TrixieinDixie Don Henley and Phil Collins are two of the better-known drummers who performed lead singer duties. Like you, I've always been intrigued with people who can do both!

  • stop smokin that weed, it's shrinkin yer balls and vocal chords

  • @ultrakool Yeah, stop smokin that weed and become an ignorant person that goes around telling people what to do.

  • this song is awesome!!!!!

  • I knew them before they got famous. I'm a lucky girl. Live in the same town as they did. springfield mo

  • This is an extremely difficult some to get "sounding right" as the parts are simple but each necessary and under-playing / laying back / and staying in space is critical... not handled much like this anymore... well done OZARKS

  • sounds like a woman singing

  • @retroman1019 .....its called a falsetto

  • @craigalan100 Ok I didn't mean anything by it but at the first time I heard it, I thought it was a woman. I don't mean he is effeminate or anything.

  • @retroman1019 LMAO.....for years I thought the same thing....I was about 7 the first time i heard this song, had just got my first battery operated radio. great time for top 40 , it still included great groups like Zeppelin etc.

  • @craigalan100 Indeed.

  • @Gabzthevamp heh heh....I know..because at the age of 44 , i can still hit mine.

  • I saw them at West Georgia College in the summer of 1974 while at baseball camp. A warm memory of better days...

  • music today sucks. pure and simple, give me the oldies any time and i will listen. does anyone agree to me the six greatest rock bands of all times are the beatles , the rolling stones, the who, the doors, led zeppelin, and lynyrd skynyrd. great bands with great music that is what is missing today.lady what she sucks get the point.

  • @rockzulla Check my video on Music Sucks in the 2000's. Greatest bands? Beatles, P Funk, KIss, Soundgarden, The Who, Van Halen, Jimi Hendrix, Chicago, Fishbone, Skynard, Steely Dan, Doobie Brothers, EWF, Ohio Players, Nirvana, and Thin Lizzy
