  • My good friend Ken Schuster used to play this on his auto-harp and his wife would accompany him on her hammer dulcimer.

Google their cd entitled "Lost Lake Effect Band". Ken had a stroke two years ago and has since been unable to play.

  • outstanding

  • There are now 3 wonderful versions of this great old tune which I have, lewdite : yours via your great clip, George Pegram's from 1970(Rounder LP No. 0001), and also Ernest V. Stoneman & The Blue Ridge Corn Shuckers (aka The Dixie Mountaineers), recorded Sept 1926 (Rounder Records vinyl LP No.02144, circa 1972). I'd love to get a hold of Fiddlin' John carson's 1923 version, too, if I could. Thanks for keeping the tradition alive !!

  • If I close my eyes, I'd swear that you were right there, performing direct with ole George, lewdite ! Your dedication to keeping the old-time tradition alive & healthy is very much appreciated.

  • Thank you very much for your comment.

I love old-time music and it gives me pleasure to share it.

  • I've never heard that song before but you sing and play it well! I love your strumming. I might try learning that song myself one day.

  • It's a classic, written by Will Hays in 1871

Fiddlin' John Carson's version was one of the first Appalachian folk songs recorded by the record industry way back in 1923

  • I have watched several of your videos and your strum patterns are fantastic! I really enjoy your style of playing!

  • Thank you.

  • I love your music, and your authentic style. I am trying to teach myself to play autoharp, and it helps to watch others and pick up a little here and there.

I really like the old time songs you do.

  • Thanks...

  • hey... thanks for the strums man... really fast right hand there!

I can't play anything but my iPod but thinking about buying an

Autoharp. Is it considered a serious instrument? Where can I buy one? By the way I am related to a George Pegram!

    Great talent you have there...

    Jim Pegram

  • Well I'll be... a relative of George Pegram. I love that man's music.

Autoharps are serious folk instruments. The Carter Family used it on many, many of their recordings. You can get one through Lark In the Morning. Just google them on the internet. Also, many acoustic music shops will carry them.

  • lewdite,

Very Nice example of auto harp playing - enjoyed the singing too. I've never heard that song before - it's cute.

    xo

  • One of my favorite songs, your version is the only other I know of, great singin and playin, keep at it.

  • nicest of the three (?) versions - complimenti.

  • Thanks for that... I don't play the autoharp very often but your role in stimulating my interest in the charango has spilled over on to my other ignored instruments which, of course, includes the autoharp.
