The movie is really a social commentary about how America is too obsessed with pop culture (i.e.: the next American Idol) to care about things like politics or a person's death. That's why it wasn't portrayed as sad.

Although I like this movie it actually shows Hollywood is just as stupid there are 4 different ethnic groups in Iraq. Shiites and Sunnis are not different in ethnicity, but religious wise. Kurds are Sunnis, and the Assyrian Babylonians are Christians.
