The only thing that helps is restarting the disc but then it repeats.

Actually, the PS3 supports much more than that. I also have a 40" Samsung plasma TV but my wife was watching TV on it that day. It froze because there was something wrong with the PS3. Since then, I have bought a new PS3 and everything works fine. Get you facts straight before you post where the public can read your comments.
that shouldnt happen at all unless ur ps3 fell or its stacked in a hot position and sandwitched between other dvd players...etc or if ur disk is scratched pretty bad try giving the ps3 some air cause the more cool air u giv it the faster it will run

I don't understand what the problem is, i bought gta 4 and i poped it in and it updated a bit and then bam it's on, i'm playing the game, no lagging no freezing just the game and me playing it. Nothing happened, i have a 80 gb ps3 i believe. So maybe it freezes because there is a big update for the ps3 and a lot of memory to be installed for gta 4 (a few gigs) so it probally works up the hardrive and it frezzes. But honsetly i've had no problems since i bought it and poped it in to play.
GTA IV will do more than freeze your system, it will fuck it up completely and bring about the fatal deadly error 80010514, i'm waiting on a replacement ps3 because of this at the minute.

Here's what happened to me about an hour ago.I recieved an emai1 from Sony saying to contact their tech support @ 1-800-345-7669. They're replacing my 60 GB manufactured in Jan,2007. Units that have the Broadband CPU, plus PS1, and PS2 chips ,INSTEAD of the EMULATOR chip cannot run GTA4, so they're replacing units free of charge.Call,them and give them the serial #,model #, and Manufacture date to see if you unit slated for replacement.

to get passed the loading you have to turn off the wireless internet connection. Its weird but the connection conflicts with it. Trust me it works but I don't know how you can play multiplayer after that.

This happened as soon as I opened it from the case. My PS3 is in immaculate condition. The disk has no scratches on it. I took the copy back, got a brand new one, it doesnt work either.

I've investigated the issue and can confirm it's limited to those using blu-GAY disks on a GAY-station 3! Those using non-GAY DVD's on SEX-BOX 360's are not affected in any way!!
Yes, that also does not work. It is not a disc problem. It is a problem with the way the disk was made and older systems are having trouble reading it.
i had no problems when i rented the game yesterday. played for three hours and paused it for 10 min and had no problems. its so addicting but i feel for your bro.
mine would freeze while loading . but then i unpluged my ethernet cord from my ps3 & it worked (if u have your ps3 set up wirelessly to the net, you'd disable that).... the catch was of course i couldnt get online with the ps3, but at least i could play the game...
also if your'e experiencing frame rate issues turn off dvd & ps2 upscaling

360 version is great works online and off just fine, PS3 version is horrible bugged out mess that might not even start.

Actually, it effects both systems. True, not as many 360's but yes, it effects both systems.

na, not even close, this is more of a ps3 problem. all games in all console can freez at some point, but this is a big problem on ps3..
did you fix the problem yet? I saw some info at g4tv com

I agree with Mikedole, i have over 70 friends on my xboxlive list and not one has told me they cant play the game, 360 version has only crashed once on me and that was online and once in the whole week i've been playing, My mate who has the PS3 version cannot get past the intro without crashing, PS3 version is really bad for crashing and freezing, it happens everytime in the same spot. Ps3 GTA is broken dont try and drag the 360 into this cos that would be a lie, 360 version is fine

wow man. i got to the apartment at least but i cant even exit it cause it freezes. that's only around 2 minutes after your lock up here.
