back pressure, myth!.. if people spend thousands of dollars on their motor and worry that back pressure would stuff things wouldnt most summernats entrants would have exhaust systems hooked up instead of just running straight off the extractors!
@351sambo mmmm think your stuck in the 70's. were they new cars that had no exhausts aye its all about velocity of the gas to create a vacum effect to get the gases out faster not gonna get that off just the extractors. this guy hear wood have lost a notiable amount of low down torque and maybe gained a tad more top end if he was lucky.
@351sambo they do that because they are bogans and want their car to be loud. U lose low down torque. maybe a kw or 2 up top. but your car will be slower. unless of course it is forced induction
@351sambo JMM tested this theory with a 250kw N/A inline 6 and said there was no increase in power or torque anywhere when using a 3inch over the 2.5. it really depends on how much exhaust u need to punch out. bigger is not always better. also running straight off the extractors causes higher combustion chamber temps running with no exhaust manifold will burn valves out. TAFE motorsport instructor told me that..?
haha ive done this before, they sound like speed boats haha

@FormulaVeeRacer1200 what i was getting at is that you arent going to cause damage at all.
your not wrong tho.. say for instance a 2.5" exhaust will give u more torque, but a 3" exhaust will give u more top end

@351sambo Why would you want top end if you don't have the torque to get there...
That's like telling a swimmer that if he trains his arms he'll have more top end but not training his legs/feet.
2.5" is the only way to go for these cars, or 2.25 twin's, unless of course the car is re-built and belting out some huge amount of power.

Why does someone always comment, asking something they know nothing about as a question, yet saying it's bad for your car..
