I tripped across Stoyanov, together with Pancho Vladigerov, Marin Goleminov, Raichev and Stainov, in a box of ancient Melodiya records in a 2nd hand bookshop some years back. R3 are starting to discover this repertoire on their "Through the night" programme. Long may this continue - while our composers produced experimental rubbish some very powerful and beautiful stuff was being produced on the other side of the iron curtain. If you can, get Goleminovs 3rd symphony....
Thank you for your suggestion. Yuri Boukoff has also recorded the Menotti Piano Concerto, music by Avenir deMonfred, and other rare music. He was one of the greatest pianists I have ever heard (and personally known).
did not know this composer and not the pianist either. as the curtain was closed to the west for so long, I missed this...
a great concerto and a great interpretation. there is a lot to discover in rumania and Bulgaria concerning compositions of the second half of 20th century.....
This is all i love find unexpectedly:an unknown postromantic, hard to place, with accent of south slavonic/oriental;strong,rich orchestral colors, mystic, soulful piano melodies, played by a great pianist.. All accompanied, visually by a landscape i know well,a villa bulging(!)with pianos & fine decor, bathed in a light worthy of Greek legends. What a joy!
Coming from a virtuoso like yourself, your comments are always greatly appreciated. I hope Evelyne, and Yana Boukoff read them, with as much pleasure as I do. Yuri gave me the unpublished recording of this concerto, which he liked very much a year before his death. I thank you very much Paul for your very interesting comments as always.
This is the Concerto No.2 for piano and orchestra.
