Hello! Can you give me some advice on this? I'm not sure which guitar should I buy. This one or the GIBSON LES PAUL STUDIO 50’S TRIBUTE WORN EBONY. Can you please tell me about the main differences and which one is the best for each different styles?
How is your Gibson, i bought one for like 3 weeks ago and directly i put some new 11-46 string on and its sounds not well. off tuned after like 3 songs, and when i full bend the G string much the tuning on that string will fall :/ thomann.de btw ;)
@TheWallSlap From my experience Gibson Studios that wear the vintage Kluson tuners and a low end nut tend to fall out of tune alot. All of the gibsons I've played with Grovers never had this issue...maybe I'm wrong but in a straight forward guitar there's really not much that can go wrong with your tunning.
If you went up a string guage, you likely will need to check your nut slots to see if they are binding - if so, a little graphite or a quick file oughta fix the issue in a jiffy.
@Jokextrem Now that's a really dumb question. Even my 2 year old cousin would be able to tell that these aren't P90s. Pickup cavities are way smaller for the P90 pickups. Gibson Single coil pickups that fit humbucker cavity are called P94s and they look way different. P90s have two shapes(Sapbar and Dogear) but they're the same size. Gibson Les Paul Studio Faded brown comes with Burstbucker Pros.
@Jokextrem Studio '50s and '60s tribute LPs have P90s(except that it's obvious that Les Paul Studio '50s Tribute Humbucker has humbuckers) but Studio faded series have humbuckers. That's a studio faded that Greg played in this vid...
Hey Greg! i have a few questions.. first, does having a wood finish like that compared to a glossy finish affect sound? also, what is the main difference btw studio and standard ? lastly.. im thinking of the red wood or the alpine white with gold with duncan invaders whatca think?
IMHO This is the best video that shows the jazzier, more subtle, sound that a LP is capable of. I got a Studio Faded Cherry a few yrs back and although i had certain minor issues with it the sound of the guitar is very versatile...especially for the price.
Thank you for this video! Beautiful playing ,by the way.
Hi I have the same guitar as you and a Fender blues deluxe 93' (not reissue) I'm just wondering if you can give me some tips on how to get a good tone out of it (like yours)?
I recently went to buy a new guitar and this one just sounded terrific. I was more amazed when I checked the price... and it seems to resonate a lot more than most other guitars. It sounded almost twice as loud acoustically to an Eclipse I tried and that's always a good sign. The pickups sounded better than any other model I tried too. I think this guitar is an absolute jem that comes along very rarely. Congrats to Gibson, this is a cracking guitar at any price.
@svidrigajlov The "worn" Studios sold today have a mahogany top, which makes the attack a little softer, and they have Burstbucker Pro pickups. I can't tell from memory, but it is my understanding that the other Studios have different pickups, and of course, they have maple tops.
A mahogany top is actually not a bad thing. I own a 2002 Les Paul Standard Mahogany (with three Duncan Distortions) and it sounds really sweet. Also, the 1954-1960 Les Paul Customs equally featured a mahogany top.
Nope, the taded cherry has a mohagony CAP. with a mahagony back. The studio with the glossy laquer finish has the maple cap with the 498t and 490r pickups. I like the faded because it has BB pros pickups. they scream.........later
Funny! you can see the guy on the camera in the reflection of the picture in the back :-)
actually i am intending to buy the same guitar. what confuses me though is that there is a STUDIO WORN BROWN and a VINTAGE MAHOGANY. whats the diffference?
@DonnieCallister The Vintage Mahogany is not chambered, while the Studio Worn model is. The pickups may also be different. The Studio Worn has Burstbucker Pros, but I don't know what the other one has.
@AragornCF Ah yes, it's the Studio Worn that i have, with Pro B'buckers (the type that Les Paul Standards are fitted with). It's a very light guitar and sounds almost acoustic without being plugged in. It sounds just as good as my 1974 LP Custom which has PAF's. The other Studios have fairly standard Alnico pickups.
i never usually bother to focus on the reverb in guitar recordings, but this is flipping gorgeous. your playing is stellar as usual. might i ask what your reverb settings are?
is the reverb unit fairly standard from fender amp to fender amp? for instance, if i got a blues deville or a deluxe reverb, would it have a similar reverb texture? sorry if that's a silly question =P
reverb is one of the things my ear is poorest at isolating
I asked you some months ago which scales do you use, and you answerd me that you don't know... just play... I guess I could do the same...
Maybe another stupid question... How do you get that feeling of changing chords in your solo, without any background music?
I can clearly hear the background chord changing in the solo, although there is no one..... Are you "thinking in chords", (arpegios and so on) while playing?
Yes, I mostly think chords while I'm playing. If you know wich notes fits to the chords, you can play much more focused to the chords. Arpeggios are great too to figure out the chords during solos. I made a a basic instructunal vido with sigi mertens for you tube about this subjekt - check out Sigi Mertens Gregor Hilden
@ociosu i used to hate when dudes would say 'i just play' when i was coming up. basically it is #1 knowing your chords and that means being able to identify chords with up to 7 notes in them. #2 knowing how all the notes sound over a particular chord including those not contained in the host key [no small order]. once you have both of those pretty good you can play single lines which outline the harmony.
Sounds great as usual!! I have this guitar in faded red. Unfortunately it is a discontinued model. Originally called the Les Paul Studio Vintage Mahogany model...it has a mahogany top instead of maple, a chambered mahogany body and burstbucker pro pickups. Gibson now lumps them in with the other studio models but you can still pick them up for a steal!! Get one while you can!!
Hey Greg ! Nice playing as always...what is the main difference between a Les Paul Studio and a Standard ? Is there a big difference in quality and sound ?

@BGSXboxx the finish definitely affect the natural resonance of an unpainted guitar. it stiffles it more than youd guess.

no, only the classic Fender git the classic reverb. Like Deluxe Reverb, Super Reverb Twin.
Blues Deluxe, Deville sounding different!
