... i.e. continued... .. "like to be abused by someone in Christian authority, and then be hushed up because you tell someone the truth about this abuser??? Apparently by the way you criticize the shack you have never gone to the depths of why this book was written. If you want a good testimony, see youtube testimony from SAVEDIN98 WHICH is his username. No one saying "JESUS IS LORD" can say it except through inspiration of the Holy Spirit.
Thanks so much to the words to me about this "unredeemed heretic" . I would be interested to know what your response would be if I said that it was yours and mine sin which punished God on the cross. in other words, God punished Jesus in place of us, and so too I believe God would not punish an innocent man. He punished a guilty man, guilty with OUR sins. By the way, you sound a bit like a NAZI, your one view really is like not examining all the evidence. Would you like to be abused? ?

Does someone have the link to the full audio for this? I tried the link in the description box, and its broken. I also couldn't find it on the crosstalk America Archives either.
Evangelicals speak as though it is all simple and straight forward . Even the Bible acknowledges that "we see through a glass darkly" And of course Jesus said to the Pharasies you think you are saved because you have the book.Fundamentalism in it's modern form is about 150 years old and of course for about 1500 years hardly anyone even possessed a Bible. God is bigger than any of us can concieve so we need to be very careful about throwing the H word around. or we can become the bad guys .

believe in God in your own way! Stop forcing your ways on other people and using your twisted logic and big words to divide people. We have enough hate and killing in the name of God already.
The way i understand it is... if you don't read and follow the bible theologie your damn? The boudist that apply LOVE and Forgivness in his relation with other people is DAMN because he his boudist? I think that a lot of peoples are not aware that God aske us to LOVE each other and forgive. you have to grasp the essence of the message that the Shack deliver......LOVE is the way to God.....It's that simple......Who are you to JUDGE.......
@johnybgood913 Christ is the way to God. Those people cannot get to Heaven without Jesus Christ. John 14:6- Jesus said, "I am the way the truth and the life, no one comes to the Father but by me." So I say that your unloving if you don't tell people that they cannot get to God without Jesus Christ. Thats very hate filled.
God's light shines through the imperfect cracks of their theology. When your theology is perfected he cannot reach you. The use of fear, guilt or shame is the desperate attempt to keep your ideology intact. God does not need your defense of Himself with peoples hearts and minds.
If God can't use the shack to reach people then he cant use anyone. If he is made to be limited and put into a box of traditions then you make a god of your own making and an idol of your mind.
The biggest problem I see is your switch from literal to allegorical when it suits you needs in explaining what you see fits. The shack does not change who God is and does not change how God thinks. God is -end of story. If He chose to manifest into a burning bush, a chicken or Balaam's ass it makes no difference. I think a the underlying current is that it does not fit your personal traditional view of who God needs to be for you.
Bless this woman's heart... She really is trying. She truly has a religious conviction, doesn't she? I'll pray for her... How does the saying go again? Something to the nature of "Men never do evil so completely and cheerfully, as when they do it from a religious conviction."
They say that the God of the Bible is monotheistic. They are correct. Throughout the Bible are stories of people killed by God and killed by man because they did not believe in the One God of the OT named Yahweh. In the NT, God is again monotheistic -- If you don't believe in the One God named Jesus you will be punished in Hell forever.
I am not stating my personal beliefs here, only what is written in the Bible.
Click the Lives Transforming link to the left where the publisher, Wayne Jacobsen, answers these questions about The Shack, including why God showed up as a black woman. You'll be shocked at the real truth behind these concepts of the book.
Stupid people think they are always right, that is why they are stupid. If no one was left on earth Christians would start arguing with God himself. They always have to spin something to be right or prove a pointless point. It is a book about relationships, no different than the Lion, the witch and the wardrobe. Of course if that were written today, many would have their issues with that writing as well.
@prhea1st The difference between this book and the LW&W is that the LW&W is an ALLEGORY. The Shack is not. The Shack changes who G-d the Father and G-d the Holy Spirit are. It puts words in their mouths. These 2 things alone are serious sin. According to Exodus 20:4, man is not to remake G-D in ANY way shape or form. G-d is Spirit but presented as Male. The only reason why a Christian would read this is because they don't study the OT where you learn Who G-D IS. He is not to be trifled with.
Actually, I read in CS Lewis' own words, he said LW&W wasn't to be an allegory---but to be even further removed. Don't get me wrong, they're linked... but I'd have to find that quote again, I just remember reading in his own words he didn't want to call it that. Just thought I'd let you know. Good post too... people need to pick up their Bibles, most of the church buildings are harlots with false teachers out of cemetaries(seminaries)... get alone, and read your Bibles!
@prhea1st How are they stupid when they quoted the book and pointed out how it's false. You seem to be just as "stupid" as you accused those in this video to be because you are implying that your comment is right.
Who is to say that the Bible itself is not a work of fiction? We have no conclusive truth either way. Can God still speak through the literary arts. Has God stop speaking altogether? So your saying we’re philosophically screwed and stuck with only this ancient literary reference to him that is at times inconsistent and has no definite historical root the actual places on the timeline it refers to. Wake up people, the Bible is no more infallible than any other literary fiction or theory.
@PenSword35 It does have a historical root, watch a good documentary about the Bible and you will see how conclusive and amazing it is!!! I don't have one off the top of my head but I will find one.
Thats the beauty of accepting Christ. He doesnt want you to go there. He is a just and holy God who has nothing to do with sin. But unfortunately we all have sinned and fallen short from His glory. And because of that we are justly condemned to a life without God. But he was merciful and good and sent Jesus. That whoever believes in Him haveth everlasting life and spend eternity with Him!
According to the bible God did not create us with sin and the world was perfect, no death or pain. Man chose to sin and from that point on we are sinners and pain, suffering and death entered the world.
I asked Jesus into my heart etc etc. I have begged God to hear is voice over different matters I have never heard anything. The bible says if you seek me (God) you will find me (God), I find that to be a lot of bs.
@vbnovice38 Sometimes it is best just to be still and know that God is God. His Holy Word is a Christian's treasure. God has provided this for us to know more about Him, to gain an understanding through study, of a deeper meaning not only of our salvation but how to proceed after He has "drawn" us "nigh". He has shown Himself PLENTY. Why must we look for "signs and wonders" all the time if we profess faith in Him? Seeking God, for real?--stop with the begging and start with the trusting =)
@ariadne12345 You gave such a typical Christian answer. Jesus himself said in Mark:
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
Futher to my last comment I have been going to church all of my life and I have never seen this. I have had pastors say lots of things like they have heard from God, but when you get to know them they are fake and fony.
I have heard from lots of christians that say really spiritual things, howver, when you deal with them in business and the like they will steal the shirt off of your back.
@vbnovice38 yes that is true, but it is the person stealing from you, not God. Not all Christians follow the right path and that is very sad. They need to get right with the Lord.
A friend loaned me this book. The story line was interesting but when I came to the part where God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit were portrayed I was very uncomfortable with it. The "Trinity" is 3 in one, but here they were portrayed as 3 very separate individuals who seemed more like they had a psychic connection with each other than being a trinity. I felt the holiness and omniscience of God was removed and replaced with far too much humanism. My Savior is far mightier than this book portrays.
@bibleblvr The book is "christian fiction "... but i found it to be very good and some of the ideas to be quite interesting... the trinity is tough to understand any way, i thought they did a wonderful job portraying the trinity as they saw it.
Thankyou for telling the Truth! GOD is giving fair warning to the people through you!
satan is a liar and a deceiver, he will send strong delusions to take you away from Jehovah Yahwey's Truth, His Holy Word. A personal note; I was given this book to read. After the first page, I had a strong foreboding about it. I knew that God was warning me " leave it alone, do not read it" I did'nt. God's Holy Spirit will warn His children when satan comes to bring delusion
There is nothing wrong with this book.. why cant God cant be seen as a larger black women or a woodsmen or anyone. Because God is in everyone if we let him enter. I dont know why this lady thinks it is such a horrible book . I think this is a great book it has taught me much. When the book talks about how God loves all from differnt religons it only means tht God does not hate. This women is reading to much into the book.
@momovideo1 God's Word judges that the "doctrine" is false. HE is the Superior Judge, Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Amen
My therapist recommended the book for me during a very nasty painful year of my life. It did me a world of good and I actually chose to embrace God's salvation because of it. Learning that I was loved and deeply valued by God changed my life forever. So the critics can just shut up because all they care about is criticizing God's love for us.
you who reject the Shack are showing how insecure u are in your relationship with your heavenly Father and how religion still grips and controls your mindsets, when Jesus showed up 2000 yrs ago he looked and acted and talked nothing like what the Jews were expecting, and they rejected him, nowhere in the book is it saying that God is a black woman the same as we know God is not a burning bush nor a pillar of smoke believe God is good and u will see past your fears insecurities and ignorance
Everyone who is reading this comment, please click on my username for my videos I made about the The Truth of the World. I have found out what the truth of life is, the truth of the world, and the truth of God. Please, I really want people to watch and listen what I have to say. No more living in false reality, no more living in illusions, no more thinking there is no way out......its time to lead your life into The Truth of the World!!!!!!!!!
19 For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;
20 And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven. sounds universal to me! but hey, we all know that there is no point following God unless lots of people are burning forever. we wouldn't want God do something so foolish as, oh, saving everyone. that just wouldn't be right. oh by the way, we love you.
Crosstalk is crap. The book is wonderful!! It awakened my heart to want to read my bible, and persue a relationship with my lord and savior. You cant tell me god doesnt use diffent tools to awaken our hearts. He works in mysterious ways remember.
Listen to the Spirit behind the words. Jesus takes the pursuit of a person's soul through avenues that we don't always understand, but that's exactly why He didn't pursue all of us that way.
People of God! Raise your swords in the right direction! All I ever hear in this Crosstalk mumbo is nothing but pure criticism of every unorthodox nugget that passes through the Church today. Jesus didn't save us so that we could pick at each other's beliefs. I'll tell you what the tragedy here is: Satan successfully dividing the Body of Christ through means like this! Maybe you should stop reading just the words and putting your own offended spin on them.
I haven't read the Satanic bible but I'm pretty certain I don't agree it either. See my point! Hope so! We don't have to get down in the mud and woller with the pigs to know it's not for me.
these people have not read this book. take what you will, but this is judgement at it's best, and without even reading what they are talking about. Makes me wonder if they read the Bible before the tell people what it says.
my mom is so excited about this book and just told me that she's going to order a copy for me and send it to me. she's actually going to see the author speak today. hearing about it makes me so sad to think my mother loves the book. God is a Father of His only Son, Christ Jesus. God is always described as being MALE. God is SPIRIT and those who worship Him, worship in spirit. God sure isnt female i follow scripture. book promotes 1 WORLD religion is all taking shape 1govt 1 religion.
The Outhouse, I mean Shack, is a very dangerous book. The author does not even believe the fundamental Christian truth that Jesus died on the cross to save us from our sins. Thank God for people like Ingrid Schlueter and Larry DeBruyn who expose the evil darkness into the light of Jesus Christ!
Loved it! Every religious video I have watched on here is absolutely sad & pathetic, because they didn't even read the book or read it well if they did. God says he/she is not man nor woman, He appears that way for Mack. And the "wisdom of men" wrote the Bible! God inspired it, but it doesn't mean we didn't contaminated it. Most people DO question God and cuss at him. That is why there is forgiveness. This book is for a normal human. Not religious figure. The book says to love. How is that bad?
I agree completely that The Shack was a wonderful book. I am dismayed that some people are so weak in their knowledge of the scripture and their confidence in the sovereignty of God that they would be threatened by a work of fiction. Many cannot see that the characters that represent God in this book are chosen deliberately to shake the stereotypes that so often make up the image of God that some have. Of course God is not a black female, but neither is God the old man on the Sistene Chapel.
The Shack is a heresy and disrespectful to God and should be taken off the market. God the father isnt some African lady and God the spirit isnt some asian lady.. neither are humans at all and shouldnt be portrayed that way. Allegory or not the book has false doctrine laced throughout it and is WRONG!
Christians do not have the right to determine whom God will choose or whom Christ will allow to see God. (Paraphrased in my words) No man comes unto the Father but through Christ. Those who refuse me refuse the one who sent me. Nowhere in the bible does it say, you have to choose in this life
CASEYMARK76 Reply @Utopiang You come in time and time again defending wolves and enemies of the Cross such as MacArthur, post different versions of the Gospel and then scream at everyone who dares tell you they don't buy into your heresies.
I doesn't work with us here
Calvinist all over YT are exposing the heresy Utopiang is preaching.
" [Bildad] 'How then can a man be righteous before God?...If even...the stars are not pure in his eyes how much less man who is but a maggot?' -Job 25:4-5
[Job] 'How you have helped the powerless! What advice you have offered to one without wisdom! And what great insight you have displayed!' " -Job 26:2-3
Do I need to point out Job's sarcasm? Or maybe that Job was ultimately more right with God than his so called friends (or William Young's brothers and sisters in Christ)?
Seriously William Young is not an evil guy... I mean I think all the harsh critics out there are committing the same sin that Job's friends commit.
Job suffers and in his suffering he JUDGES God. And God REBUKES Job for his sin (a very very long rebuke. "gird your loins"? haha seriously God lay it on Job hard.)
God also REBUKES JOB'S "FRIENDS" who had no compassion for Job or wisdom in when and to whom they should teach.
i think that everyone that thinks thought a book of fiction is not sound with the HOLY BIBLE do not have any true idea what Will is saying in his book. I have read it and compared the ideas that it expresses with a very close minded BIBLE interertaion and see no large errors with the Truth of THE HOLY BIBLE within Will's book
I do not see, if it is true, that Will belives that all will go to Heaven within the book but a true idea of God that looks for the lost and loves all people.
Paul Young is not a Universalist and has denied being one and family and friends and ministerial associates have come forward to rebut these false allegations and lies. This is old false rumors that have been proven wrong long ago and anyone saying otherwise refuses to see the facts and truth.
God the Father was crucified with Jesus, page 96 of The Shack. 1. God was in Christ when the nails were driven through the hands and feet of Jesus. True or False 2. God was in Christ when he forgave those who sent him to the cross. True or False 3. God was in Christ when he told the thief today you will be with me in Paradise. True or False 4. God at some time forsook Christ while on the cross and not before. True or False 5. Jesus said, the Son can do nothing by himself; True or False
Please beware that some of those criticizing The Shack and making outlandish claims that it is Heresy or that the author is not saver etc. before you get seduced into listening to the naysayers first examine what their doctrine is. You may discover as I have that what the critics of The Shack believe is odd, not biblical and in many cases considered heresy by respected theologians as well as early church leaders. Wolves in sheeps clothing comes to mind in dealing with these people.
People are acting like it's a big deal that the author of The Shack is a universalist. That's a good thing, Young isn't all superstitous about the hell myth.
On judgement day all those who rejected Christ will acknowledge that He is King of king and Lord of lords. And then they will be be cast into the lake of fire for all eternity (Revelations 20:15).
It doesn't say that. Did you go to seminary or study the Bible in college? Maybe you should (if you haven't) because you seem biblically illiterate. It's late here in the States so good night and peace.
Since every knee will bow and every tongue confess (even Satan and the demons) that Christ is King, and since the Bible teaches the doctrine of eternal damnation, it makes perfect contextual sense that the damned will confess that He is Lord and bow before Him.
Good, we agree that all kness will bow and all tounges will confess Jesus is lord. Thus, that means we are both Universalists. Remember, 1st Timothy 4:10- "[God] is the savior of all men, specially of them that believe [now]."
John 12:32; Jesus will draw all men to himself. 1 Corinthians15:22; as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 1 Peter 3:18-20; Jesus goes and preaches to the souls that disobeyed long ago and in 4:6 it says this was so they could live according to God's spirit. Finally, 1 John 2:2; "[Jesus Christ] is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world".
You'll probably ignore these verses, say I'm lost, and you'll continue to twist scripture for your own purposes. But at least you can now tell God on Judgement Day that you were witnessed to the fact that God is love. You will be without excuse. Peace and God bless.
Please read a scholarly book on Revelation. No serious scholar, even the conservative ones like RC Sproul, NT Wright, and (I think) John MacArthur, believes that Revelation should be taken literally. It was written by 1st Century Christians who were being persecuted by Rome; the book was meant to reminde them that God still cares. If you actually think there is a celestial being up in the sky with a magical book of life then you're crazy! Even most Evangelicals don't believe that! Open your eyes
NT Wright's error-filled theology is being studied by the postmodern Emerging/Emergent movement which is heretical.
Whilst most of the imagery in Revelation is not literal, it is symbolic of actual events and Christ WILL cast the unredeemed into an eternal place of suffering.
R.C. Sproul fully embraces this truth:
w w w(.)healtheland.wordpress(.)com/2008/03/25/rc-sproul-the-jesus-christ-of-revelation-sermon/
Well I guess I was wrong about MacArthur. But Sproul has said he is a preterist so I assume you are too, right? And Wright isn't apart of the emerging church movement but many emergents draw inspiration from Wright's conservative theology. He is completly orthodox. Name one 'heretical' belief of Wrights. You can't. Neither can you with other evangelicals you don't like such as Tony Campolo.
Sproul believes in eternal damnation in the lake of fire:
w w w(.)bible-researcher(.)com/hell6(.)html
NT Wright has welcomed the Emerging church movement and his book "New Perspective on Paul" is deeply heretical (which explains why the Emerging church are embracing it so readily). Importantly, he no longer holds to faith alone.
"Im not convinced that Jesus only lives in Christians." - Tony Campolo
No, I am not a Preterist. In fact, I have taken no particular position on these matters (i.e. pre, mid, post tribulation, amillennialism) because each has its merits. I am not persuaded by Preterism because, in my opinion, it does not resonate with the volume of Scripture on these subjects.
Campolo still believes you have to accept Christ as lord and savior. That comment he made is largely refering to those who have never heard the gospel. Do you believe that innocent children in non-Christian areas are going to hell? Men and women who live their lives in poverty stricken countries so that they can take care of their families are going to hell? No, the spirit of Christ dwells in all people, just like the Quakers say.
No-one is innocent. All are fallen and dead in sin. However, it is possible that since small children cannot comprehend sin, the Law or the Gospel, God receives them into Heaven. If men and women go to Hell then it is not because they have done right or wrong, it is because they are dead in their sins. Unredeemed and there unable to survive God's holy presence. Jesus was the propitiation so that we CAN stand before God as righteous and pure.
Apparently not all believers since you reject a lot of self-professed Christians (like Campolo and Wright), Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. The only people who believe in hell say that they aren't going there but that people whom they don't like or disagree with are going there. Typical.
Professing Christ does not guarantee that a person is a genuine convert. Their fruits provide the evidence. False theology that is not repented of is a sign of an unregenerate mind, heart and soul.
Those who are genuinely saved will not be condemned by Christ but those who deny the Truth will.
"He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day." (John 12:48)
Your right. That is why the fruits of a person are works. Campolo and Wright know this. By the way, what is your denomination? Even America's most conservative churches would usually like NT Wright and (sometimes) Campolo.
I am Reformed. Conservative churches around the world are introducing Eastern mysticism and new age Aquarianism into their churches. The term "conservative" does not lend credibility to the false teachings of Campolo and Wright on today's climate.
Thanks for telling me. I used to be as reformed as you are. No conservative church I know practices new age stuff. No liberal church I know either. Every Christian I know says new age is crazy.
I have heard a lot of Campolo sermons and he is a critic of the new age movement. If children go to heaven when they die young then shouldn't that mean it is better if someone dies young then old since most adults will go to hell?
"Beyond these models of reconciliation, a theology of mysticism provides some hope for common ground between Christianity and Islam. Both religions have within their histories examples of ecstatic union with God ... I do not know what to make of the Muslim mystics, especially those who have come to be known as the Sufis. What do they experience in their mystical experiences? Could they have encountered the same God we do in our Christian mysticism?" - Tony Campolo (Speaking My Mind" p. 149-150)
Yeah, you know Paul was a mystic. He had a mystical encounter w/ the spirit of Christ. The Bible doesn't say he met the physical Christ but the spiritual Christ. That is the very defintion of mysticism. An experience with the divine. Oh, and St. Francis was too influenced by Sufi mysticism. And Jonathan Edwards (you probably like his theology) was influenced by Native American mysticism.
Paul was a chosen by God to announce the Good News to the Gentiles. His visions were unexpected, Biblical and holy, not subjective. Mysticism as it is being practiced today is the emptying of the mind and the expectation a visitation or vision ala Eastern gods. We do not call on God for visions as we please, He is sovereign and HE chooses the prophet. St Francis was a deluded man, sadly, and Jonathan Edwards regarded the Native Americans as being Satanic. You are again fabricating falsehoods.
Give me a source where Edwards says that the Native Americans were satanic. I'm from Edwards hometown in Massachusetts and have studied Puritains like him (I am directly descended from the New England Puritains and used to attend a church that believed exactly has they did) and everything I have read says that Edwards believed that God could be found in the Indian's religion (I'll give you a quote in a second).
"In 1756, for example, Jonathan Edwards, the missionary to the Stockbridge Indians, preached that Indians had been guided by Satan away from the Gospel, eastward across Asia, and then to North America. In North America, Indians were Satans peculiar people and their religion was devil worship."
w w w (.)streetprophets(.)com/storyonly/2009/11/23/0122/6980
Thank you for that. The source I was thinking of comes from later in his life (when he calmed down a bit). He certainly was at one time intolerant (and probably racist) towards Indians but that doesn't exuse those beliefs. Jesus never said that the religion of the Samatians was heretical (even though they denied things like the 10 commandments).
As He is for all Christians, Jesus was an Edwards' advocate. If Edwards was intolerant then it was his zeal for truth, not hatred of people. Jesus would surely have guided him to repent of any racism (if there were any). It may be that their penchant for satanic rituals was difficult for him to bear. Recoiling at evil practices is an experience all believers can identify with.
Jesus made it clear that anyone who did not come to the Father but by HIM will not be saved. There is NO other way.
However, I find it difficult to believe that Edwards would have taken to indulging in Native American Indian mysticism later in his life. I will need that quote to examine it for myself.
I didn't say Edwards embraced Indian religion, just that he respected it. Edwards never would indulge himself in anything other then reformed Christianity.
Okay, you're right that Jonathan Edwards didn't like Native American religion and called it 'satanic'. But, according to an article in a conservative Chrisitan magazine called Chrsitan Histroy, Edwards did believe it was possible for some of the Indians to be saved even w/o conversion. In a letter he wrote in 1753 to some New England Indians he said that they "excelled in religion and virtues". Edwards said that some (not all) non-Christians were "holy pagans". Continued...
... Edwards, when debating American deists, said that most people are destined for hell. However some members of other faiths may be "regenerate" and go to heaven. He pointed out Biblical figures such as, from the OT, Melchizedek, Job's family and 3 friends, Elihu, and Cyrus the Great, all of whom were not Israelites and Cyrus who was a Zoroastrian. Thus he remained hopeful that God's grace and mercy would be granted to kind Indians he knew and loved in Stockbridge, Massachusetts.
This article on Edwards' thoughts about the salvation of non-Christian Indians was based on the private writings of Edwards, who expressed these thoughts in his personal journals and in letters to friends. I myself am glad to know that the guy who practicly invented fire and brimstone sermons was privatley hopeful of a larger amount God's 'elect'.
Thank you for sharing the information with me, MassLiberal1, but If this is true, then Edwards' private thoughts were in error and altogether too hopeful (as is the case in ecumenical circles). The Bible makes no allowance for a man to come to the Father without Christ the Saviour.
Your welcome. Again these were just hopes of Edwards. I am curious whether you think salvation came to the non-Israelites who, although of different religions, are spoken of positivley in the Bible such as Cyrus the Great, and others.
There is only one way to the Father and that is through Christ. Jesus made this exclusive claim Himself. But, after He was crucified, Jesus did preach to the "spirits in prison" who died before the great flood and they may have come to salvation.
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison" (See 1 Peter 3:18-20)
Well, okay then. I guess we just disagree. I respect your opinions on these matters anyway. It is my philosophy that none of us can really say we have the full truth so, while I think you're wrong, I would not claim that I am correct in my assertments either. Only God can know the full story. I'll say goodbye by wishing you an early Merry Christmas (assuming you celebrate it. Some Calvinists I know don't). Peace and God bless.
It is not me you are disagreeing with, MassLiberal1, it is the Bible. The inspired Word of God teaches these things, I simply declare them without adding my own personal interpretation to them.
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." (2 Pt 1:20-21)
Yes, I honour the Lord's birth. May God bless you with Truth in Christ.
Please feel free to contact me anytime by e-mail if you would like to discuss these issues further as I am your servant in Jesus Christ., MassLiberal1.
"Jesus said to him, "I am the way, and the truth, and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me." (John 14:6)
Just like we wouldn't want our own religion to be called evil we shouldn't call other faiths evil. Most are genuine attempts to find meaning for life and it's not their fault they are unaware of Christ or even if they reject Christ. Remember the words of Jesus on the cross when he asked God to forgive his murderers for they know not what they've done. If people really thought they were on their way to hell then they'd change their ways. Peace.
Christ set the standard. When a person is granted salvation they accept this standard. Any religion outside of the salvific power of the atonement of Christ is regarded as a false religion and the worship of their gods as idolatry... by GOD.
Yes, I agree that if men knew what awaited them, they would pause to consider their ways but only God can illuminate their minds and give life to their stony hearts which brings them to salvation. The Gospel is the true power of salvation. Peace to you.
All mystical experiences are unexpected. Only new age fools say you can call on God when you want. Francis deluded? How any Christian could say that bewilders me.
That is what Campolo, Brennan Manning and Rob Bell and others are teaching: "empty your mind (the Bible never teaches this but tells us to meditate on God's word) and allow whatever comes in to flood your mind". St Francis (I am an ex-Catholic) believed in the Marian doctrines and was bore stigmata. Stigmata is exclusively Catholic and is an aberration as are the Marian apparitions. Christ would NEVER place His wounds on a man. He alone carries these wounds as a sign of His victory.
I don't agree w/ Catholic dogma but that doesn't lessen my respect for great Catholics like Francis. St. Augustine is a favorite among reformed theologians but he was Catholic. John Calvin believed in Marian doctrines (like that she was sinless) but that doesn't cheapen his legacy.
St Francis believed in a false gospel. His good deed therefore do not equate with salvation, admirable though they were.
St Augustine did not entertain the heresies that the Catholic church later embraced. John Calvin considered Marian worship to be idolatrous although he did hold Mary in loving esteem as do all true Christians.
This is quote form Augustine on Mary from an Italian source, "conceived as virgin, gave birth as virgin and stayed virgin forever". True Calvin did not believe things about Mary like Catholics do but he still believed in her perpetual virginity, something most Protestants now reject.
It is not unexpected that Augustine would have the attitude that Mary was a perpetual virgin considering the early beginning of the Catholic doctrines. However, this belief does not compare to the heretical Catholic view of Mary today and his belief was certainly not damning to the gospel. The Bible is clear that Jesus had brothers and sisters by Mary and Joseph.
Please do publish the quote here when you have an opportunity because it would be a complete contradiction to Edwards' position on the spiritual depravity of the Native American Indians and I would be interested to see it in context.
The Spirit of God only dwells in believers who repent and believe.
Read Acts 19:1-6.
"Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard {this}, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them;" (Acts 19:4-6)
Matt. 25 says that Christ is in all so we should care for all. Name me a theologian who doesn't believe this. Jesus clearly states that he is the poor when the 'goats' ask where did they reject Jesus. He was the hungry, the naked, the sick, the imprisoned. God is everywhere.
Matthew 25 is all about condemnation of the wicked.
"Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:41)
Jesus said: "Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me." He was talking about Himself as in those He indwells - BELIEVERS (John 14:23).
God is omnipresent but He does not indwell creation.
God doesn't indwell creation? That sounds heretical. Tell me, how can God be omnipresent but not indwell creation? You seem to be underestimating God's omniprescence; like if I said God is omnipotent but can't cure cancer. That would be heretical and yet you just stated the equivalent. If you read the Bible in whole you'll see tons of verses that state God indwells creation, like David saying that wherever he goes God is there, and Jesus saying the kingdom of God is within you.
MassLiberal1, you need to study the Bible before you try to argue that the doctrines of Christianity are heretical. God does not indwell fallen creation, He is HOLY and cannot look upon sin.
"Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity:" (Habakkuk 1 13)
The entire salvific plan teaches that God is separate to all of creation and will only indwell man when he has been justified and sanctified by salvation through Christ's atonement. The kingdom is in them.
"For by grace you are saved through faith; and this is NOT from yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT BY WORKS, so that no-one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Read the book of James. Faith w/o works is dead. Thats all Wright (and all Catholics) are saying, they get this belief from the Bible. Also the 25th chapter of Matthew makes it clear that the ones Jesus rejects are the ones that did not look after the poor.
Hi nathaw11, heresy is rampant because it is an effective tool of the devil. I encourage you to look up Universalism and its tenets and you will find that it is entirely unbiblical.
w w w(.)wretchedradio(.)com/pdf/review_shack(.)pdf
God warns believers repeatedly about heretics in the Bible and, if a heretic dies unrepentant, He will condemn him/her eternally (Galatians 1:6-8; 5:19-21).
I agree that universalism is unbiblical. I have never disagreed with you. There is 1 God in 3 persons and Jesus is the way, the truth, and the life. We need not to argue about that at all. I was making a joke about the heresy thing. I just think you type that word alot. I hope you like to laugh. God gives us a sense of humor for a reason.
Praise God, I am glad that you understand that Universalism is unbiblical, nathaw11. If you follow the link I gave you in my previous comment, you will find out how much Universalism there is in "The Shack". It might surprise you. The indepth and astute article was written by Paul Young's friend of 10 years who is privy to Young's history of Universalism. He sacrificed their friendship for the sake of Christ.
I do have a sense of humour but not about heresy because it is deadly serious.
Well, she is obviously hurt. She needs His love. Maybe we broke the walls a little through the strength of Christ we get. Who knows? But,...I will not ignore any speech that limits what Jesus Christ, Son of the Most High, did for all at the cross.
You are a chicken...a coward...a fool. You hide behind bible verses and spout them to the internet world - and probably to people around you. Do you feel loved? You quote John, a human, who spoke of nothing but love. Do you feel loved? Do you know what it is to know God loves you? Probably not. GOOD NEWS!!! GOD LOVES YOU::: ((( U T O P I A N G ))). You are his child, and you are like nobody else ever created. The King of kings and Lord of lords gave you all He has and all He is. You are his!!!
Universalism is the belief that ALL men are saved, FindMyPath. But the Bible teaches that not all men are saved - only those who repent and believe will enter Heaven. Those who do not will be cast into the lake of fire for all eternity (Revelation 20:15).
P.S. I am a prisoner of the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ, who took away your sin and my sin at the same time. You obviously are condemned. That's the way the law works. Whatever you are struggling with, there is no condemnation. However, there is a Savior Who is reaching out and saying, I am your good Shepherd, and you are My sheep. Rest in me, and I will set you free. I AM the Way, the Truth, and the Life.
FindMyPath, if you are a "prisoner", you believe falsely that ALL men are saved (which is Universalism) and you say that you are not a Christian; these are not the fruits of a person who belongs to Christ.
There IS condemnation for those who are unsaved. One must believe the true teachings of Christ to be redeemed. There are millions of false converts in the world who are convinced that they know Jesus. The question is, does He know you? Please read 1 John and examine yourself against it.
The Word of God refers to those who deny the true teachings of Christ "children of the devil" and "reprobate". We are called to examine the fruits of a person's faith and if it is corrupt, they are false Brethren. Paul Young's fruits are a clear indication that he is unsaved. I pray that he will repent. What a wonderful day that would be for the Kingdom of Heaven.
Shame on you. Again shame! I never once spoke of the book or Paul Young or Universalism. You have propagated propaganda of the most Satanic kind. You tread upon the work of Jesus Christ the Lord, who, by the way, is the Way, not Christianity. I am not a Universalist. However, your dogma is Antichrist to the core. The Almighty created a Salvation for His creation long before you or your father came along. I am a prisoner of the gospel of the Lamb of God Who takes away the sin of the world.

Evangelicals speak as though it is all simple and straight forward . Even the Bible acknowledges that "we see through a glass darkly" And of course Jesus said to the Pharasies you think you are saved because you have the book.Fundamentalism in it's modern form is about 150 years old and of course for about 1500 years hardly anyone even possessed a Bible. God is bigger than any of us can concieve so we need to be very careful about throwing the H word around. or we can become the bad guys .

Stupid people think they are always right, that is why they are stupid. If no one was left on earth Christians would start arguing with God himself. They always have to spin something to be right or prove a pointless point. It is a book about relationships, no different than the Lion, the witch and the wardrobe. Of course if that were written today, many would have their issues with that writing as well.
prhea1st 1 year ago
@prhea1st The difference between this book and the LW&W is that the LW&W is an ALLEGORY. The Shack is not. The Shack changes who G-d the Father and G-d the Holy Spirit are. It puts words in their mouths. These 2 things alone are serious sin. According to Exodus 20:4, man is not to remake G-D in ANY way shape or form. G-d is Spirit but presented as Male. The only reason why a Christian would read this is because they don't study the OT where you learn Who G-D IS. He is not to be trifled with.
walksbyf8h 1 year ago
@walksbyf8h

PenSword35 1 year ago
@PenSword35 It does have a historical root, watch a good documentary about the Bible and you will see how conclusive and amazing it is!!! I don't have one off the top of my head but I will find one.

Why would God create us the way we are if he were only to send us to eternal pain and suffering?
thestaple8 1 year ago
Thats the beauty of accepting Christ. He doesnt want you to go there. He is a just and holy God who has nothing to do with sin. But unfortunately we all have sinned and fallen short from His glory. And because of that we are justly condemned to a life without God. But he was merciful and good and sent Jesus. That whoever believes in Him haveth everlasting life and spend eternity with Him!
God bless and think about it.
Matthew5v6 1 year ago
@thestaple8
According to the bible God did not create us with sin and the world was perfect, no death or pain. Man chose to sin and from that point on we are sinners and pain, suffering and death entered the world.
I asked Jesus into my heart etc etc. I have begged God to hear is voice over different matters I have never heard anything. The bible says if you seek me (God) you will find me (God), I find that to be a lot of bs.
vbnovice38 1 year ago
@vbnovice38 Sometimes it is best just to be still and know that God is God. His Holy Word is a Christian's treasure. God has provided this for us to know more about Him, to gain an understanding through study, of a deeper meaning not only of our salvation but how to proceed after He has "drawn" us "nigh". He has shown Himself PLENTY. Why must we look for "signs and wonders" all the time if we profess faith in Him? Seeking God, for real?--stop with the begging and start with the trusting =)
ariadne12345 1 year ago
@ariadne12345 You gave such a typical Christian answer. Jesus himself said in Mark:
And these signs will accompany those who believe: In my name they will drive out demons; they will speak in new tongues; they will pick up snakes with their hands; and when they drink deadly poison, it will not hurt them at all; they will place their hands on sick people, and they will get well.”
vbnovice38 1 year ago
Futher to my last comment I have been going to church all of my life and I have never seen this. I have had pastors say lots of things like they have heard from God, but when you get to know them they are fake and fony.
I have heard from lots of christians that say really spiritual things, howver, when you deal with them in business and the like they will steal the shirt off of your back.
vbnovice38 1 year ago

My Savior is far mightier than this book portrays.
bibleblvr 1 year ago
@bibleblvr The book is "christian fiction "... but i found it to be very good and some of the ideas to be quite interesting... the trinity is tough to understand any way, i thought they did a wonderful job portraying the trinity as they saw it.

Job suffers and in his suffering he JUDGES God. And God REBUKES Job for his sin (a very very long rebuke. "gird your loins"? haha seriously God lay it on Job hard.)
God also REBUKES JOB'S "FRIENDS" who had no compassion for Job or wisdom in when and to whom they should teach.
linkvashflcl 2 years ago
Hmmm well The Shack is not a perfect book. It's good people are seeing the mistakes and flaws in Young's book. So Young has stuff to learn.
STILL I believe there is Holy Spirit filled wisdom in that book. Have some compassion for the guy jeez!!
How many of his critics actually know his testimony and how he came to write the book....?
linkvashflcl 2 years ago
i think that everyone that thinks thought a book of fiction is not sound with the HOLY BIBLE do not have any true idea what Will is saying in his book.

MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Universalism is an unbiblical heresy which gives those who do not wish to bow their knee to Christ, a reason not to.
Utopiang 2 years ago
The Bible says every knee will bow so don't worry.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
On judgement day all those who rejected Christ will acknowledge that He is King of king and Lord of lords. And then they will be be cast into the lake of fire for all eternity (Revelations 20:15).
Utopiang 2 years ago
It doesn't say that. Did you go to seminary or study the Bible in college? Maybe you should (if you haven't) because you seem biblically illiterate. It's late here in the States so good night and peace.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Yes, the Bible does state this.
Since every knee will bow and every tongue confess (even Satan and the demons) that Christ is King, and since the Bible teaches the doctrine of eternal damnation, it makes perfect contextual sense that the damned will confess that He is Lord and bow before Him.
Utopiang 2 years ago
Good, we agree that all kness will bow and all tounges will confess Jesus is lord. Thus, that means we are both Universalists. Remember, 1st Timothy 4:10- "[God] is the savior of all men, specially of them that believe [now]."
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
John 12:32; Jesus will draw all men to himself. 1 Corinthians15:22; as in Adam all die, so in Christ all will be made alive. 1 Peter 3:18-20; Jesus goes and preaches to the souls that disobeyed long ago and in 4:6 it says this was so they could live according to God's spirit. Finally, 1 John 2:2; "[Jesus Christ] is the atoning sacrifice for our sins, and not only for ours but also for the sins of the whole world".
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
You'll probably ignore these verses, say I'm lost, and you'll continue to twist scripture for your own purposes. But at least you can now tell God on Judgement Day that you were witnessed to the fact that God is love. You will be without excuse. Peace and God bless.

MassLIberal1, please read Revelations 20:15.
Utopiang 2 years ago
Please read a scholarly book on Revelation. No serious scholar, even the conservative ones like RC Sproul, NT Wright, and (I think) John MacArthur, believes that Revelation should be taken literally. It was written by 1st Century Christians who were being persecuted by Rome; the book was meant to reminde them that God still cares. If you actually think there is a celestial being up in the sky with a magical book of life then you're crazy! Even most Evangelicals don't believe that! Open your eyes
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
NT Wright's error-filled theology is being studied by the postmodern Emerging/Emergent movement which is heretical.
Whilst most of the imagery in Revelation is not literal, it is symbolic of actual events and Christ WILL cast the unredeemed into an eternal place of suffering.
R.C. Sproul fully embraces this truth:
w w w(.)healtheland.wordpress(.)com/2008/03/25/rc-sproul-the-jesus-christ-of-revelation-sermon/
As does John MacArthur:
w w w(.)biblebb(.)com/files/mac/gc1290(.)htm
Utopiang 2 years ago
Well I guess I was wrong about MacArthur. But Sproul has said he is a preterist so I assume you are too, right? And Wright isn't apart of the emerging church movement but many emergents draw inspiration from Wright's conservative theology. He is completly orthodox. Name one 'heretical' belief of Wrights. You can't. Neither can you with other evangelicals you don't like such as Tony Campolo.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Sproul believes in eternal damnation in the lake of fire:
w w w(.)bible-researcher(.)com/hell6(.)html
NT Wright has welcomed the Emerging church movement and his book "New Perspective on Paul" is deeply heretical (which explains why the Emerging church are embracing it so readily). Importantly, he no longer holds to faith alone.
"Im not convinced that Jesus only lives in Christians." - Tony Campolo
(Charlie Rose show on January 24, 1997)
Utopiang 2 years ago
No, I am not a Preterist. In fact, I have taken no particular position on these matters (i.e. pre, mid, post tribulation, amillennialism) because each has its merits. I am not persuaded by Preterism because, in my opinion, it does not resonate with the volume of Scripture on these subjects.
Utopiang 2 years ago
Campolo still believes you have to accept Christ as lord and savior. That comment he made is largely refering to those who have never heard the gospel. Do you believe that innocent children in non-Christian areas are going to hell? Men and women who live their lives in poverty stricken countries so that they can take care of their families are going to hell? No, the spirit of Christ dwells in all people, just like the Quakers say.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Campolo is an ecumenicist with a New Age bent.
Utopiang 2 years ago
Clarification: "we" as in believers.
Utopiang 2 years ago
Apparently not all believers since you reject a lot of self-professed Christians (like Campolo and Wright), Muslims, Jews, Hindus, Buddhists, etc. The only people who believe in hell say that they aren't going there but that people whom they don't like or disagree with are going there. Typical.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Professing Christ does not guarantee that a person is a genuine convert. Their fruits provide the evidence. False theology that is not repented of is a sign of an unregenerate mind, heart and soul.
Those who are genuinely saved will not be condemned by Christ but those who deny the Truth will.
"He who rejects Me and does not receive My sayings, has one who judges him; the word I spoke is what will judge him at the last day." (John 12:48)
Utopiang 2 years ago
Your right. That is why the fruits of a person are works. Campolo and Wright know this. By the way, what is your denomination? Even America's most conservative churches would usually like NT Wright and (sometimes) Campolo.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
I am Reformed. Conservative churches around the world are introducing Eastern mysticism and new age Aquarianism into their churches. The term "conservative" does not lend credibility to the false teachings of Campolo and Wright on today's climate.
Utopiang 2 years ago
Thanks for telling me. I used to be as reformed as you are. No conservative church I know practices new age stuff. No liberal church I know either. Every Christian I know says new age is crazy.

2 Samuel 12:23 makes it clear that David's baby son was recieved into Heaven:
"But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me."
This scripture gives us hope that God gives special mercy to babies and brain damaged people.
Utopiang 2 years ago
What about the children that God ordered killed in the OT? Are they in heaven?
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Only God knows.
Utopiang 2 years ago
I have heard a lot of Campolo sermons and he is a critic of the new age movement. If children go to heaven when they die young then shouldn't that mean it is better if someone dies young then old since most adults will go to hell?
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
"Beyond these models of reconciliation, a theology of mysticism provides some hope for common ground between Christianity and Islam. Both religions have within their histories examples of ecstatic union with God ... I do not know what to make of the Muslim mystics, especially those who have come to be known as the Sufis. What do they experience in their mystical experiences? Could they have encountered the same God we do in our Christian mysticism?" - Tony Campolo (Speaking My Mind" p. 149-150)
Utopiang 2 years ago
Yeah, you know Paul was a mystic. He had a mystical encounter w/ the spirit of Christ. The Bible doesn't say he met the physical Christ but the spiritual Christ. That is the very defintion of mysticism. An experience with the divine. Oh, and St. Francis was too influenced by Sufi mysticism. And Jonathan Edwards (you probably like his theology) was influenced by Native American mysticism.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Paul was a chosen by God to announce the Good News to the Gentiles. His visions were unexpected, Biblical and holy, not subjective. Mysticism as it is being practiced today is the emptying of the mind and the expectation a visitation or vision ala Eastern gods. We do not call on God for visions as we please, He is sovereign and HE chooses the prophet. St Francis was a deluded man, sadly, and Jonathan Edwards regarded the Native Americans as being Satanic. You are again fabricating falsehoods.
Utopiang 2 years ago
Give me a source where Edwards says that the Native Americans were satanic. I'm from Edwards hometown in Massachusetts and have studied Puritains like him (I am directly descended from the New England Puritains and used to attend a church that believed exactly has they did) and everything I have read says that Edwards believed that God could be found in the Indian's religion (I'll give you a quote in a second).
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
"In 1756, for example, Jonathan Edwards, the missionary to the Stockbridge Indians, preached that Indians had been guided by Satan away from the Gospel, eastward across Asia, and then to North America. In North America, Indians were Satans peculiar people and their religion was devil worship."
w w w (.)streetprophets(.)com/storyonly/2009/11/23/0122/6980
Utopiang 2 years ago
Thank you for that. The source I was thinking of comes from later in his life (when he calmed down a bit). He certainly was at one time intolerant (and probably racist) towards Indians but that doesn't exuse those beliefs. Jesus never said that the religion of the Samatians was heretical (even though they denied things like the 10 commandments).
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
As He is for all Christians, Jesus was an Edwards' advocate. If Edwards was intolerant then it was his zeal for truth, not hatred of people. Jesus would surely have guided him to repent of any racism (if there were any). It may be that their penchant for satanic rituals was difficult for him to bear. Recoiling at evil practices is an experience all believers can identify with.
Jesus made it clear that anyone who did not come to the Father but by HIM will not be saved. There is NO other way.
Utopiang 2 years ago
However, I find it difficult to believe that Edwards would have taken to indulging in Native American Indian mysticism later in his life. I will need that quote to examine it for myself.
Utopiang 2 years ago
I didn't say Edwards embraced Indian religion, just that he respected it. Edwards never would indulge himself in anything other then reformed Christianity.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
"And Jonathan Edwards ...was influenced by Native American mysticism." - MassLiberal1
Utopiang 2 years ago
Did I say that? My bad.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Okay, you're right that Jonathan Edwards didn't like Native American religion and called it 'satanic'. But, according to an article in a conservative Chrisitan magazine called Chrsitan Histroy, Edwards did believe it was possible for some of the Indians to be saved even w/o conversion. In a letter he wrote in 1753 to some New England Indians he said that they "excelled in religion and virtues". Edwards said that some (not all) non-Christians were "holy pagans". Continued...
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
This article on Edwards' thoughts about the salvation of non-Christian Indians was based on the private writings of Edwards, who expressed these thoughts in his personal journals and in letters to friends. I myself am glad to know that the guy who practicly invented fire and brimstone sermons was privatley hopeful of a larger amount God's 'elect'.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Thank you for sharing the information with me, MassLiberal1, but If this is true, then Edwards' private thoughts were in error and altogether too hopeful (as is the case in ecumenical circles). The Bible makes no allowance for a man to come to the Father without Christ the Saviour.
I will look into it for interest's sake.
Utopiang 2 years ago
Your welcome. Again these were just hopes of Edwards. I am curious whether you think salvation came to the non-Israelites who, although of different religions, are spoken of positivley in the Bible such as Cyrus the Great, and others.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
There is only one way to the Father and that is through Christ. Jesus made this exclusive claim Himself. But, after He was crucified, Jesus did preach to the "spirits in prison" who died before the great flood and they may have come to salvation.
"For Christ also hath once suffered for sins, the just for the unjust, that he might bring us to God, being put to death in the flesh, but quickened by the Spirit: By which also he went and preached unto the spirits in prison" (See 1 Peter 3:18-20)
Utopiang 2 years ago
The only problem with this, however, is the following Scripture:
"And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment:" (Hebrews 9:27)
It is worth doing a study on this and an interesting exposition on 1 Peter 3:18-20 can be found on the internet using the search words:

Well, okay then. I guess we just disagree. I respect your opinions on these matters anyway. It is my philosophy that none of us can really say we have the full truth so, while I think you're wrong, I would not claim that I am correct in my assertments either. Only God can know the full story. I'll say goodbye by wishing you an early Merry Christmas (assuming you celebrate it. Some Calvinists I know don't). Peace and God bless.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
It is not me you are disagreeing with, MassLiberal1, it is the Bible. The inspired Word of God teaches these things, I simply declare them without adding my own personal interpretation to them.
"Knowing this first, that no prophecy of the scripture is of any private interpretation. For the prophecy came not in old time by the will of man: but holy men of God spake as they were moved by the Holy Ghost." (2 Pt 1:20-21)
Yes, I honour the Lord's birth. May God bless you with Truth in Christ.

Correction: "... Jesus was Edwards' advocate."
Utopiang 2 years ago
Just like we wouldn't want our own religion to be called evil we shouldn't call other faiths evil. Most are genuine attempts to find meaning for life and it's not their fault they are unaware of Christ or even if they reject Christ. Remember the words of Jesus on the cross when he asked God to forgive his murderers for they know not what they've done. If people really thought they were on their way to hell then they'd change their ways. Peace.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Christ set the standard. When a person is granted salvation they accept this standard. Any religion outside of the salvific power of the atonement of Christ is regarded as a false religion and the worship of their gods as idolatry... by GOD.
Yes, I agree that if men knew what awaited them, they would pause to consider their ways but only God can illuminate their minds and give life to their stony hearts which brings them to salvation. The Gospel is the true power of salvation. Peace to you.
Utopiang 2 years ago
All mystical experiences are unexpected. Only new age fools say you can call on God when you want. Francis deluded? How any Christian could say that bewilders me.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
That is what Campolo, Brennan Manning and Rob Bell and others are teaching: "empty your mind (the Bible never teaches this but tells us to meditate on God's word) and allow whatever comes in to flood your mind". St Francis (I am an ex-Catholic) believed in the Marian doctrines and was bore stigmata. Stigmata is exclusively Catholic and is an aberration as are the Marian apparitions. Christ would NEVER place His wounds on a man. He alone carries these wounds as a sign of His victory.
Utopiang 2 years ago
I don't agree w/ Catholic dogma but that doesn't lessen my respect for great Catholics like Francis. St. Augustine is a favorite among reformed theologians but he was Catholic. John Calvin believed in Marian doctrines (like that she was sinless) but that doesn't cheapen his legacy.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
St Francis believed in a false gospel. His good deed therefore do not equate with salvation, admirable though they were.
St Augustine did not entertain the heresies that the Catholic church later embraced. John Calvin considered Marian worship to be idolatrous although he did hold Mary in loving esteem as do all true Christians.
Utopiang 2 years ago
This is quote form Augustine on Mary from an Italian source, "conceived as virgin, gave birth as virgin and stayed virgin forever". True Calvin did not believe things about Mary like Catholics do but he still believed in her perpetual virginity, something most Protestants now reject.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
It is not unexpected that Augustine would have the attitude that Mary was a perpetual virgin considering the early beginning of the Catholic doctrines. However, this belief does not compare to the heretical Catholic view of Mary today and his belief was certainly not damning to the gospel. The Bible is clear that Jesus had brothers and sisters by Mary and Joseph.
Utopiang 2 years ago
Are you the only Chrsitan who believes Francis preached a false gospel or is there a theologian who also believes this?
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
It is a commonly held belief based on Francis' life and beliefs compared to the Biblical standard. Fruits.

Utopiang 2 years ago
The Spirit of God only dwells in believers who repent and believe.
Read Acts 19:1-6.
"Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus. When they heard {this}, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. And when Paul had laid hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them;" (Acts 19:4-6)
Utopiang 2 years ago
Matt. 25 says that Christ is in all so we should care for all. Name me a theologian who doesn't believe this. Jesus clearly states that he is the poor when the 'goats' ask where did they reject Jesus. He was the hungry, the naked, the sick, the imprisoned. God is everywhere.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Matthew 25 is all about condemnation of the wicked.
"Then he will say to those on his left, Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels." (Matthew 25:41)
Jesus said: "Then shall he answer them, saying, Verily I say unto you, Inasmuch as ye did it not to one of the least of these, ye did it not to me." He was talking about Himself as in those He indwells - BELIEVERS (John 14:23).
God is omnipresent but He does not indwell creation.
Utopiang 2 years ago
God doesn't indwell creation? That sounds heretical. Tell me, how can God be omnipresent but not indwell creation? You seem to be underestimating God's omniprescence; like if I said God is omnipotent but can't cure cancer. That would be heretical and yet you just stated the equivalent. If you read the Bible in whole you'll see tons of verses that state God indwells creation, like David saying that wherever he goes God is there, and Jesus saying the kingdom of God is within you.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
MassLiberal1, you need to study the Bible before you try to argue that the doctrines of Christianity are heretical. God does not indwell fallen creation, He is HOLY and cannot look upon sin.
"Thou art of purer eyes than to behold evil, and canst not look on iniquity:" (Habakkuk 1 13)
The entire salvific plan teaches that God is separate to all of creation and will only indwell man when he has been justified and sanctified by salvation through Christ's atonement. The kingdom is in them.

NT Wright doesn't hold to faith alone because that's not the traditonal view of the church. Only Protestants believe that and Wright is an Anglican.
MassLiberal1 2 years ago
Wrong.
"For by grace you are saved through faith; and this is NOT from yourselves: it is the gift of God: NOT BY WORKS, so that no-one can boast." (Ephesians 2:8-9)
Utopiang 2 years ago
Read the book of James. Faith w/o works is dead. Thats all Wright (and all Catholics) are saying, they get this belief from the Bible. Also the 25th chapter of Matthew makes it clear that the ones Jesus rejects are the ones that did not look after the poor.
