its amazing what little things you learn after so many years of using a program. even something small as this tip. I have another... for anyone who doesn't know; if you hold the Ctrl button down while adjusting a value knob on a device, it will 'slow down' its movement for more precise adjustments. thanks vespers.
So I used sampler in my drum rack instead of simpler, and when I click the specific clip revealing the sampler, it does not reveal an option to adjust the velocity sensitivity. Am i just missing the option or is no such option available when using samplers in the drum rack?
@Iskulaatikko just save a simpler with the velocity sensitivity set the way you like it, then drop in your defaults/ instruments folder in your ableton library. it'll load with those settings every time.
thx to you bro i dont have to learn logicpro...was so pissed i could not figure out how to change the velocity on the drum rack i was just gonna learn a whole new program....thx so much man i cant believe it was so easy right there in my face.....unbelievable.....excellent video...now i can tell my boy how to change the velocity cause he was stuck as well...ty again man!
Vespers, you have one of the best tutorialschools out here. I always learn something new and this tip is a real timesaver and i've been wondering the whole time why i could'nt get the velocity to work in ableton!
I got here from your thread on KVR... the method someone posted in response to your thread is even faster than the method in your video. No manual setup needed. You don't even have to restart Live for it to pick up on the changes. If you want to help out the masses, update your video to include that method. It's even a step beyond learning the "copy to siblings" trick.
Hey Vespers. Great video but you made it appear that one just has to right click on the parameter in the rack to copy it to the siblings when in fact the "copy to" copies all the parameters' settings to the siblings and not just the parameter you right click on. Therefore, one has to be careful if any pad's parameter has already been modified, you will lose those changes in favor of all parameter settings of the selected pad you executed the "copy to sibs" function.
There is even a better way… Just drag a simpler into a midi channel, turn the velocity up and right click on the top bar of the simpler and click "Save as default preset"
After that all simplers you drag in have 100% velocity
Since I don't have live to test this out... Will the copy to siblings work when copying the note the samples hit, if you wanted multiple samples to play at the same time? Hope that makes sense? I've been trying to find an easy/fast ways of layering samples together.
@patrikkc You just multi select them by shift clicking to highlight multiple samples, then drag them all over to a pad on the Drum Rack. Then you'll see the pads light up chromatically upwards in orange, and you just release to drop them. Or, you can hold down command (Mac) alt (PC - I think) and it'll create a Multi with them all layered on 1 pad in a nested Drum Rack. Cheers!
@Absalohm Yes, it's independent of the type of sample loaded into the Simplers. It'll work for any sibling Simplers and even whole sibling Drum Racks that are within a Chain together (ie: nested). Cheers!
Hey Vespers, thank you for the video. I know you love Ableton and I do as well, however, I really love Propellerhead Reason also. The newest version of reason has an amazing drum designer and if you ever get a chance, check it out! In the meantime, do continue making Ableton tutorials. Thanks
That one little bit of info has just made my life so much easier! Thank you so much for that! It's been something that's been bugging me for ages. The way I got around it though was to create my own dropping and slicing presets.
I prefer the other way of just setting a default value. You just create a blank simpler, set the velocity to what you want, I think I have mine at 50%, then drop that sampler in the library in Defaults/dropping samples/on drumrack/simpler.adv. Now any samples you ever drop on a drum rack will always have velocity turned on to 50 to start with
@DJVespers I figured thats what the video was about, I was happily surprised to find out that it wasn't what I expected and I actually learned a little nugget about the "copy to siblings" , cheers!
Copy Value To Siblings Parameter, Great Video Vesper, I Also Hated The Idea That DrumRacks Velocity Is a Bit Annoying, Thats Really How It's Done, This Is An Advanced Tutorial, Good Job.
OMG THANKYOU! ive been trying to figure that out! subbed for sure.

I have the same question about samplers vs simplers, is the velocity to volume parameter not available in sampler? only in simpler?

you could also set the Simpler instrument with the velocity setting you prefer as a preset.
