I am 36 and have been a very casual listener of the cure off and on throughout the 80's and 90's. This was my first show ever and they blew my mind. I had no idea how rich and deep their sound. This show pretty much made them a regular listening staple for me and I wish I had seen them much sooner. I am sold now. AWESOME! Glad I got to see them because who knows how much longer the will play!
I'm 46 and I've known of The Cure for-ever, but I was never really a fan (I'm mostly into "rock"). However, after seeing their 2008 concert from Charlotte broadcast on HDNET, I became a big-time fan... Every song they do sounds amazing!
it made me feeling really sad..this song is really deep..the cure..very great music..i didn't listen to them some months ago, but the first time I heard them I fell something in my heart. Really great..
Oh yeah it sounds great but i don't know why some people say that the cure are not making great music. I agree with them, the cure not make classics songs since wish album but they have a great soul and it doesn't matter if they are comming down now i think diferent and i always say "if it like it, and make your heart turns crazy when you heard it, the rest are only words in the wind"
Oh yeah some songs from the bloodflowers, wild mood swings and the cure albums some people say that not a classic but i like so much want, 13, this is a lie, mint car, out of of this world, maybe someday 39. before 3, alt end.... and well there are so many songs.
@Hallucination time didn't give you the reason I'm afraid... nowadays none of the songs you mention are played live. In fact no songs from WMS are part of their songlists anymore...
@gnzvideos I'm not sure what you're getting at (my comment was three years ago) but if you're trying to suggest that because a song is no longer in the setlist that means it is not a classic than I completely disgaree.
@Hallucination Yes. That's what I'm saying: This is a Lie, Treasure, There is no If or the Loudest Sound are not played anymore. In fact they were only played during the promo tour only. Want was last played in 2009 and Bloodflowers in 2008. I remember Robert saying WMS was his best album ever haha, I laughed at that time and I laugh now. Many songs in the "Jason era" are good but the lack of creative drum patterns (and drum sound) playing along with the bass spoil most of them.
Agree with a lot said below but this song actually works better without keys. Its one of the few but I like the simplicity of the pure guitar play and robert actually singing like a string melody. pictures of you did also have very few keys cause the guitar play was so cloudy that it worked without. similar here
thank you so much fallingbird for your "support"... you just caught the point...Robert,years and years ago, used to talk about a secret project he had called "music for dreams" if i'm not wrong, it had to be made of strings, cello piano and acoustic/classical instruments of this kind... I've always dreamt about he made up his mind and brought it eventually out :-) i'm sure that work would actually sound great!!!
since mr Smith invented the genuine "cure-sound" which has made the history of good music and many bands are still clearly influenced by it,why doesn't he take advantage of this relying on it istead of taking the cure "adrift" playing somewhat like death metal and wah-wah guitars? does anyone of you agree with me? :-)
skukky, close your eyes, listen to that song and if you cant feel the typical cure chill from 20 years ago it might be that you have become older as well
Currently there are many groups deeply influenced by the cure such as Shout Out Louds for instance, well even if they just crib the "early" cure i think their sound is great and fresh first of all, much better than a song like this
i don't want to sound stupidly obvious and nostalgic - but works such as disintegration, faith, pornography, the top, kiss me kiss me kiss me - all their albums from the 80's essentially - are master works to me, that's really sound music i think
I think a more experimental and "elegant" and romantic and glamorous and melancholic sound made of strings, acoustic instruments blended with electronics (such as Goldfrapp,Röyksopp - not very appropriate examples in this case though) would maybe agree much more with the cure themselves and perhaps with all the old fans like me still all hot about old albums
they are quite "old" too, i don't report specifically to this song but i wonder why have "lately "they begun to rock'n'roll just at this point of their magnificent career...wouldn't it be "better" if their current sound was more "chill-out"?
this song is nothing original, even if much more better maybe than the other tracks we'll find on next album...i actually wonder why they don't make good music any more...they have been my favorite group since ever but i think to be honest if i say their sound isn't innovative at all as i think being innovative means making good music...
AMAZING SONG. HE OPENED UP WITH THIS ATLANTA. SAME AS THE HOLLYWOOD BOWL. ATLANTA CROWD DOSENT SEEM TO GET INTO THE CURE LIKE LOS ANGELES CROWD. AND I WAS IN THE FRONT AGAIN. There were a couple of die hard fans but a lot of people would end up sitting down. That sucks. No one in pool circle ever sat down. at least i didnt notice. RObert was amazing in both shows though. so its all good. great clip!!!!!!!!!!
The other regular open / close pair besides the ones you list is Out of This World which pairs with the ending song of Bloodflowers. There are also specific "intro" songs / sounds to these as well, for instance, Plainsong which opens with the chimes, Out of this World which starts with "Adagio for Strings", "Tape" which precedes Open and then now we have the sounds of the crashing waves which we now know precedes Underneath the Stars.
It's Such A Great Feeling To Know This Is NEW !! They Opened With This In Tampa Last Night - Beautiful, Like Plainsong.. 1:36-2:00 Fucking Painfully Wonderful..
I love this new song. From the new songs I have heard so far, I think 'Underneath the Stars' really is the most captivating. It's a very ethereal sounding song.
i cant believe i got a CHANCE TO SEE THEM LIVE AT THE HOLLYWOOD BOY!!!! THIS SONG LIVE WAS AMAZING!!! does anybody know where i can find this song?!??!?!? like on a cd?!?!?
Across the years?, like this with you Underneath the stars above For 13 billion years of you (a view?) It's beautiful, and ours alone tonight Underneath The Stars Spinning round and round with you Watching shadows melt the light? ???? from our eyes, a tear Another space is ours alone tonight Watching shadows melt? The waves....break The waves....break
You are so lucky that you got to see The Cure at RED ROCKS. Red Rocks is so beatiful I have only seen one band at red rocks, Seventh row. very lucky dude very lucky
Indeed gorgeous ! best since a long time and absolute favorite potential. Its not dark nor sad, its just yearning, full of atmosphere, heaven, endless, dreaming and great porl/robert guitar - hope the album version is as good as the live version
great song ! hopefully the album version will be similar....re: look at what happened to wendytime, cut and big hand from the time of the secret gig to the album release...
this new album is amazing!!, the only one, freakshow, the perfect boy, sleep when i´m dead, baby rag dog book and Underneath the Stars!!! ALL AMAZING!
i`m already completely sure it will be one of the best cure`s songs ever for me. first time since bloodflowers i can`t stop crying because of emotions. this song is PERFECT. that`s right the best cure`s song in 21 century.i`m full of hope that new album (Dream 13)will be better than previous

Thanks.
I love the Cure but have been disappointed with their s/t and the forthcoming album.
Xephon212 3 years ago
Yes, I remember the "Music for Dreams" rumors.
Things have turned into Music for Nightmares.
I just can't believe what has happened to my favorite band.
Even this song, as great as I think it is, I can't help to think how good it COULD have been with keyboards.
The heavy distortion, overuse of wah-wah, schecters, all have to go.
The cure was about beautiful dreamy music with keyboards, and VINTAGE GUITAR TONE that a scheter will never be able to reproduce.
Kids, This is not the Cure.
fallingbird 3 years ago
I am in total agreement with you.
Xephon212 3 years ago
I agree with you 100% skukky.
Just not on this song, I think this is the only good one...
But yes,
The Wah-wah and heavy distortion is killing the Cure.
Porl needs to go back to Zeppelin, he was better suited there.
