Even if i'm french, it's funny that this be an English actress who makes me want to watch french movies. It's the most touching i've seen. Even after viewing it many times, this story and the acting of Kristin Scott-thomas are still as moving as the first time. But it's a movie from where you get out appeased like Juliette. I know it by heart and yet i get shivers by watching the trailer. I suppose you understood i recommend you to watch it. Nobody will stay insensible.

I can't believe this film wasn't nominated for best foreign language film at the Oscars it was much better than the French entry the Class.

To be perfectly honest I had Okuribito and I've Loved You So Long as the 2 best films of 2009 they were both miles ahead of Slumdog Millionaire.

The great crime here is why wasn't Christine Scott Thomas nominated for a best actress Oscar.

i agree with you...kst should have won all the awards for best actress..but as we all know kate winslet was already chosen...kst is a far superior actress than kate...why this movie of hers was overlooked is beyond me.. :(

You're completely wrong. This movie was art at it's finest. Kristin Scott Thomas pulled off a performance you can't even begin to comprehend. Her ability to capture a character with a dark secret was nothing short of extrodinary. She truly deserves a nomination for this stunning performance. Well worth the watch.

Avoid this movie! Well made film but implausible premise. An endearing work that pulls the credibility rug out from under you in the end. The script is based on the notion that the main character [SPOILER] could have intentionally gone to prison for 15 years, by not defending herself, to punish herself for a mercy killing that no one could possibly have thought deserved incarceration. Films built on flimsy foundations crumble.

I mean, the film is in French, so you listen to it in French and read the subtitles. Not to hard to do.

I saw it last night. KST's performance is good but, I'm afraid, it sure isn't the Second Coming that many critics make it out to be. The movie itself is somewhat slight, though it's still better than the average American affair.
