I was raised in a protestant family not far from Big Ian's grand abode.My parents were Irish nationalists & trade unionists. My grandfather took part in the Rising.
Paisley's main support was from the lumpen of working class protestants. He played on their fears yet even under the orange statelet they lived in poverty suffering the same deprivation as the oppressed catholics. Paisley polarised the north's protestants posing as "A Man of God'. Yet you can see fasting wasn't high on his agenda.

it should be united, for ireland has only ever been united under a british crown...time that came about again. It was the republic who left the UK...time they rejoined under Her Majesty the Queen.
And if you check your history you will see that the celts were pushed out of west france and germany and scandanavia by the romans and vikings, and they settled in the emerald isle so they are visitors too. The cuthrins, anscestors of modern english folks were in ireland first! circa 100-700 AD

God bless Ian Paisley! All considered he's a great man, although he should have never compromised and sat down laughing with those SinnF.. clowns. That was tasteless. Nonsense. First of all "Ulster" is only 2 thirds of Ulster, becuase it's a gerrymander. Were the whole province included there would not have been a separate Ulster. As for superstition, it might interest you to know that there is no word for witch in the Irish language, and England burnt innumerable witches.

The superstition is all that Catholic rot that, until lately, kept the Irish in grinding poverty and ignorance to keep serving the pope's standing army of priests. There's plenty of words available to describe all that nonsense.
As for Ulster, the point stands, whatever its current borders, the urge-to-merge is ridiculous. Example: Eire spent centuries trying to break from England, but now goes and throws that sovereignty away to the EU ... go figure.

The Irish were in grinding poverty because all their land was taken from them by the English. Before the reign of Henry 8th, Ireland was as rich as England, the people were better educated etc. Henry 8th was responsible for 20 times more deaths in his reign than the Spanish Inquisition was in 300 years. Good Queen Bess was respsonsible for mA Catholic had virtually no rights. He had to sell any horse to a Protestant for five pounds, no matter how valuable.

Of course they did. They made the Book of Kells, The Ardagh Chalice, The Derrynaflan chalice, they wrote the biggest literature in medieval languages, in Irish of course, they invented distilling, formulated the Brehon laws, sailed to America, had trading links with Bordeaux, Lisbon, La Coruna etc.

Why is Paisley a sell out? When he said "never, never, never...", he was talking about the possibility of the North being annexed by the Republic and "surrendering" to the IRA. He has done neither. In fact, he made the IRA disband before entering into government with Sinn Fein. Everybody benefits from his peaceful actions, so you should be slow to criticise.

Ulster is British as are all parts of the United Kingdom, it is not Irish. Its not uncommon for two countries to be on the same island you know... look at Europe.
We use pounds, we have a Queen, we are under control by the British Parliament and the only official flag is the Union flag. My passport says i'm British :).
