Maybe some "purists" had a problem with it but I remember the concensus being that it was very cool that Run-DMC was giving credit where credit was due. In a time of mixed-tapes being spread by word of mouth and from hand to hand it could be frustrating for some artists knowing that their work wasn't being properly acknowledged. Run-DMC really changed the trend on that by including the original artists sampled in their album liner notes.
