  • @drewskimorley I did row at school and i agree it is an awesome experience but you have to agree it is a pretty flawed method of transportation.

  • i love how hard rowers have to work to go at 10 miles an hour

  • @Fasty5370 Rowing is something you obviously don't understand. The feel you get being in sync on the water, pulling as hard as you can, is just.... impossible to describe.

  • I was on an hour of power 22-26 erg piece yesterday and I was doing really well. at 14 minutes I hit the wall, and those words went through my head, when Brian (cox) said that his eyes rolled back and was still at full pressure. After the piece I blacked out from overexaustion- but did well

  • @mayandour ....your kidding, right? This video has comments on it from experienced rowers, either you are full of shit, can't understand distance, or are rowing at a 1 resistance...which still would be amazing. If you pulled those scores everyone would know your name and you would have every college coach in the world chomping at the bit for you.

  • @espnfan736 I have one, a 6k. There is nothing on this earth that I hate more than a 6k test. I have thought about snapping my own ankle just so I could stop. After that, it seems like everything is just nothing.

  • @sugga57 r u talkin about an erg test? i agree in every word u said... theres nothing that hurts like a 6k test.. i've done pretty much things that hurt a lot but a 6k test is THE thing i hate most.

  • Very few things are more difficult physically and mentally than a 2k

  • @Antasion That was the British record at altitude.

  • What name is the music? I' d Like to use it in an erg video.. Thanks in advance.

  • @mayandour I don't like to hate, but I couldn't help but notice that your only subscription is JustinBieberVEVO. :P Top olympic rowers pull sub-1:40 for 30' rate 20 (over 9k), and open 60' (over 18k); 1:41 for 18k (just over 60') rate 20? I assume you're joking.

  • @TheManiacChicken Pinsent pulled 9009 for 30 mins at rate 20 and that's the world record apparently.

  • as a coxswain and a rower, i cam totally say this is a addicting sport. erging and training as hard as possible is always such a good feeling. seeing that thses guys are pushing past their limits is amazing. makes me wanna go erg now haha peace!

  • 1:03 looks awesome how the oars fly by and just hit the water like its the most fucked up thing on earth just in order to be the fucking best

  • Well my first day of Novice crew (I've never rowed before) is tomorrow, my coach linked me to this page, and ya, I'm fairly intimidated now.

  • @mogilska1 what's a "split"? In layman's terms pleaseeeee and a 2k? Is that like hard?

  • @tedzelley a split is the time it takes them to go 500m. a 2k is obviously 2 kilometres on the erg and whether it is hard depends on whether you are trying to go fast. It is also the length of regattas (races)

  • no big deal see stroke seat he is my coach at my school if u dont belive me look it up shawnigan lake school

  • the eight is the only candian crew with out the crazy lie back

  • @redskater42 you mean it's the only men's eight WITH the crazy lie back...

  • @rocktheglooves Hahahaha! If we are talking about Men's Eights then yes! But look at the canadian Mens four!

  • @redskater42 yeah, but theye suck so no one cares. :)

  • @rocktheglooves so true. so true.

  • @redskater42 although, they are kinda fast... :S But they can be better :) maybe one day they will kick butt...

  • shit that guys pulliing 1:43 for a 30 min! omg!

  • Adam kreek is monstorous..

  • I rowed 2 years, then joined cross country for a season. Now i'm back into rowing. Cross country is NOTHING compared to rowing. With rowing, you can never stop, no matter how bad you want to. Other sports you can just slack a little and it won't affect much.

  • rowing is easy. i mean i have a kayak.

  • @tedzelley you hav obviously never rowed. kayaking is for weaklings. kayaking is what explorers used to explore new lands a long time ago, while rowing was a form of capital punishment that was using to kill people. get the picture? i dare you to row 1 2k with 1:43 split. you would probably stop and cry, so please don't assume because that makes an ass out of you and me.

  • @mogilska1 lol...assuming they could get the splits down to 1:43 at all

  • @mogilska1 thats not that bad now try doing a 2K at a 1:36 thats some damn hard rowing but hell it got me my PR of 6:29.4 that will make anyone whos never rowed before die. that is to say that they could even pull that hard for more than 30 strokes. I'm a senior in highschool

  • @themacattack671 Don't come on rowing videos and boast about your times. It makes you look like a tit. Besides from the fact that I'm a freshman in high school and I beat you.

  • @gabrielevans999 I don't believe that. my name is Alex Macaig I'm going to GW next year for rowing get look me up

  • @themacattack671 GW? Me and my eight have a regatta coming up in two weeks against people we have destroyed before, if we win then we will represent Great Britain in the Junior Olympics.

  • @tedzelley quite possibly the most ignorant comment regarding the sport of rowing....ever

  • @clearedapproach77 I think he was joking :P No one is that ignorant/retarded

  • what are the songs in this video?

  • Rowing is complete hell and torture, but for some reason it is impossible to give up. It's like a drug that is bad for you (while your doing it) but is addictive. However, rowers have the best bodies, physical endurance, and mental endurance.

  • @mogilska1 that is not true

and i can know i becouse i rowing veri much

  • i love this video....! :)

  • up the rowers!!

  • I´m a gentleman and a rower...what´s the problem with it???

  • The thought is making me ill.

  • Rowing's not a sport its a way of life.

  • Everyday during training i want to quit, but everyday i keep coming back for more

  • I wish I had smoked more weed during my rowing days. Fuck erging would've been easier and I suspect my splits would've been better. Also, a healthier racing attitude.

  • @fallenpumpkinhead works for me!

  • @fallenpumpkinhead your a fucking idiot if you think smoking weed would help you row better. moron

  • Fuck yeah, Canada

  • To anyone that says crew isn't a sport...

Honestly, you try and erg multiple 2k pieces with a coxswain or coach screaming in your ear, "GO NEGATIVE!"

  • Rowing is the only sport. Everyone else just plays games.

  • @Sn0000pdogg Professional cyclists are the best athletes around. Hands down.

  • @braveheart1989 I see where you are coming from but these are two very different kinds of sports. Cycling - and I assume you mean Tour environment - is pain endurance. Rowing however is pain infliction. There is a courage to competing the TdF for example, and a nutcase mentality to go with it, but there is equal courage for the rowers and to inflict that much pain on yourself. I could never pick one over the other.

  • @danielphilipcater Your point is a good one. I love both sports and even row on my university's club team, so to pick between the two would be like comparing apples and oranges.

  • @Sn0000pdogg lol i got that shirt at narf with the blue oar hahah

  • Oh, do you know Estonian rower Jüri Jaanson? He was in final in single sculls in 1987 and in 2004 and 2008 he achieved silver medals in olympics.

Anyway, he got 45 few days ago and he continues his journey as a rower, after passing the medical survey which said "we allow him to row, because it won't kill him yet"

  • Adam Kreek and Kevin Light have common ancestory from Estonia.

I wish those guys the best of luck, because I know how hard this is. I play football and I use rowing ergometer as preseason practising. I mean, it is very hard already, but I don't have to have technique at all

  • I honestly don't know why i like this sport so much, who ever says it's 'gay' really has no idea. If your tired or in pain on an ice rink or football field, just make a sub. If your in a boat, sorry you have 10 minutes of unbelievable pain and stress left to go.

  • @jm338 i kno exactly how u feel. i too hav no idea why i love rowing so much but i'm completely addicted

  • @ledjovi54 i think it is the ONLY thing where you can say its a 'love it or hate it' thing, despite when people say it for lots of other things.

  • so true!!!

  • best rowing video ever

  • 0:55 - the guy's been going for eleven minutes on that erg at a 20 pulling a 1:43.8. Canadians are tanks.

  • @thecaptainbailey I'll be honest with you, yes they're tank but that was probably an hour or more on the erg. I'm not a fantastic rower, top club level/U23 and I can do do a 1:42 ish for my 30@20 test. I would expect these guys to be doing 1:40 or less for 30 minutes at rate 20.

  • @JernauGurgeh1 @thecaptainbailey Jernau is right. I got to meet Malcolm Howard at HotC in 2008 briefly at a restaurant. We (as junior rowers at the time) were in awe of him. His 6km pb was around 1:35 then, so yes, they can go a bit faster than that. Maybe doing like three pieces?

  • Comment removed

  • @thecaptainbailey i pull 1.41 fore 18k at rate 20 with a hartbeat of 150...so i don`t find it amazing

  • @mayandour shut up, your just making yourself look like a dick mate.

  • @mayandour either ur joking or ur ripped or ur a 12 year old piece of shit that thinks hes all that

  • @mayandour Seeing as you're hiding behind a name on the internet, I dont find you amazing either.

  • @mayandour aaaaaahahahahahahahahaaa....

  • @mayandour Two things:

    Learn how to spell "for"

    Stop bullshitting

  • @mayandour honestly mate, I'd be more likely to believe you if you told me you ran 100m in under 9.5 seconds.

  • @thecaptainbailey

he's also slowly dropping his split the whole time.. Average is 1:43.8, but current at the 3150 mark is 1:40...

  • Best explanation of rowing I've ever heard.

  • A really amazing video, it's a shame that Rowing is such a great sport but it's not commercialized enough...

BTW. what is the song during their training on the ergs?

  • this is so true! i would die for my crew, and god knows i've come close. i like how he says it's not a gentleman's sport, cos i'm in a women's lightweight 8, and people are expecting us to be sissy little girls, but when we "unleash the beast", there's no looking good for cameras or being polite...

  • @theotherspice I don`t think anyone would be "gentleman" if his whole body is burning and he still have to go on.

  • thee shell,,,,,,,,we love it, and named it "thePainBank"!! And it pays us back on race day, with interest,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

  • Hey, that blonde guy at 0:24 talked to our crew once and said the same thing.

  • Anyone knows the song from 0:28 till 1:29?

  • @TheDracry I would like to know that too :(

  • i love the video but i thinkg i tried to watch it too many times... does it say GO UPGRADE! on anybody elses?

  • Probably because technique isn't as much of a factor on the Erg as it would be on the water.

  • Why do some of them on the Erg pull up to just below the chin? Is it a special workout or something?

  • @crewchamp13 If you pull it higher you get a longer stroke and so a faster time on the erg, try it.

  • @crewchamp13 its because they are strong enough to keep the power on. but few people are and if a normal person tried its just a waste of time

  • I love elk lake. i had a regatta there in the fall

  • @hottdog2007 what do you row for... im vcrc so i get to row at elk lake all year long.. its pretty nice

  • @saltyfamily everett rowing. north of seattle

  • Brian Price came to my school today.

    lololol. :D

  • pain is good!!! I think so......I don't know anymore, I got kinda lost during the years :D

  • Like David Calder once told me: Embrace the pain.

  • @jengrey

once i was pushing so hard on the erg that i passed out.

  • @pikey1011 thats hardcore

  • @jengrey really not that difficult my friend, i've seen first year under 15s do that

  • rowing IS a pain contest, and it IS a measure of who is willing to endure it the most. rowing has taught me sooo much, about being part of such a tight team, about being one with everyone else, about killing yourself over and over and over and still be able to do all over again. it teaches you true friendship and true pain and, if you're willing to go through it all, true victory.

    GO CANADA ROWING!!!!

  • as a rower, anyone thats says crew isn't a sport, im want to punch em. because they truley have no idea,

  • rowing is the only sport, all others are games. (besides long distance running, cross- country skiing, etc..)

  • @XOhadley there isn't a lot that bugs me.. but what makes me lose it is when people claim rowing isn't a sport... I couldn't agree with you more. everyone else just plays GAMES!

  • @XOhadley we row races. everyone else just plays games.

  • @XOhadley I am a rower, but I see it as more than a sport. At least for high school, it becomes some what of a cult. I guess you could say is that rowing has graduated beyond being just a sport

  • @XOhadley dude ik what you mean!!, i hate it when i tell people i row and theyre like, oh what a pussy sport.... lets see them pull a 6k

  • @fjdude21 yes, I hate it too. Often they dont know that rowing is a real sport -.-

  • @XOhadley Second hardest endurance sport in the word.

  • @22458 what would you say is the first hardest?

  • @skierman91 Cross country skiing, it is bloody heard so I hear.

  • @22458 yeah i skied for 5 years before trying rowing for the first time this year. Its tougher than rowing but rowing a 2k is pretty damn hard, and when your in the boat you can't screw up your form like in skiing.

  • @skierman91 How far do you skiers race competitively?

  • @22458 completely depends. Sprints are 1.3k, but aren't a huge part of skiing. College racers do between 10 and 20k races and the pros do up to 50k.

  • @skierman91 I see, so you can specialize in a particular distance. It would be nice if they did that with rowing. I am sure some guys at even the club I am in would be better at shorter or longer distance races the standard 2 kilometer one.

  • @skierman91 I skied also for a while before rowing and if you are on a tough competitive team the 2 dont compare. Rowing is tougher.

  • @XOhadley crew isn't a sport! it's called rowing!

  • @poretobatido

You got it! It's a coxie, not a coxswain.... etc

  • @XOhadley i agree with that, cause im a rower, but it really isnt a sport it's an event.

  • @XOhadley shut up... sports are ego focused. rowing is a pain contest

  • @XOhadley What about single scull?

  • wtf 20min @ 1:40!!!

amazing crew! Im proud that "my" germans were able 2 beat them in this years wc in poland!! :P

  • That erg display showed around 10 minutes at a 20 stroke rate with a 1:40 split. The average split was around 1:43.

Which is crazy. I can't hold a 1:43 for 10 minutes on an open rate, let alone 20 spm...

  • @billiamz

that is the middle of a 30 minute, not a 10 minute.

  • Makes me proud to be a rower!

  • Such a good vid :) does anyone know what the song is at 0:28?

  • BEN RUTLEDGE IS MY COACH!!!!!!!

  • I wish one day i'll have half the strength of these guys...

  • My University had the opportunity to train with these guys for a weekend. They are truly animals, men amongst boys. Good on you Canada you earned that Gold.

  • you lucky git, i hope one day to be able to content against monsters such as these men..

  • THIS VIDEO IS SO GOOD AND TRUE
