  • Amazing simply amazing.

  • The 1911 is Hickoks sniper rifle!

  • How does the front of the slide get so dirty? I realize there's a lot of gunpowder etc. shooting out the barrel but I would think it would all go forward away from the barrel and slide...

  • Now do it with one hand and in 22lr.lol.:)

  • Awesome shooting hickok... Ive been following guys like you, nutnfancy, tnoutdoors9, and sootch for years now and i have to say as far as marksmanship skills are concerned you have made a name for yourself as one of the best on youtube. I humbly applaud your work and hope one day to have my own range and a full gun safe and just half of your knowledge... Many thanks for opening up your compound and wealth of firearms knowledge to us... keep the great vids comin! "Life Is Good"

  • @00ner45 fpsrussia beats all

  • @HELLZONE7745 fpsrussia beats your dick

  • @balla740 i wish

  • i like that you can see the hits on the gong before you hear the impact

  • First, I want your backyard. Next, you're a he'll of a shot. Next time, you should shoot tracers.

  • Wow, 230 yads standing with a pistol. That's amazing.

  • LOL dude... you hold the weapon so tight... looks like an .22 handgun!!!

When i hold the .45 hard like that... my aim start shaking and i miss the target... :( however... if i don't hold like that... it jumps too much (i doesn't actually jumps off my hand, i mean like... the weapon titls up, like 90º if u know what i mean.. (english isnt my first language ;()

do u have some tips for me?????

  • What do you think the velocity is from those 230's? 900fps-1000fps. I knew you were sighting it in on those first few 'misses'. Is the Commander accurized in any way? Barrel bushing for instance? I'm not going to be a smartass and ask you to single hand it, that was amazing the way it was. Oh, did you have trigger work done on it? Those slugs almost seemed to take 5 seconds to get to the plate!

  • dear hickock45 do you have a 1911 gold cup national match ?

  • The best shooting I've ever seen!

  • i bet a 9 mm or a 357 mag would have been better to use 45 acp is pretty slow by comparison

  • How high do you have to aim to hit it. My old army colt 1911 you had to aim 5 feet high and 5 feet left to hit a man sized target at 20 yards , it was sloppy loose.

  • Great shooting Hickok45, You da MAN!!! :)

  • Good pistol, good shooter... Can it possibly be better?:) great vid mate!:D

  • Just one more reason why I want a 1911!

    I love your videos hickok45 :D

  • sir you rock i feel lucky to watch you shoot thanks for the entertainment you are the man

  • If He was on Top Shot, The Show would be Over Because he Would make them Look Like fools.

  • Did you put the sites right on the gong or did you aim up above it.

  • Sir, you must of been a Marine at Camp Perry in a past life. This video inspired me to dust off my .38 Super and start shooting at rifle distances. Thank you for spreading the shooting sports in spades.

Regards and keep the videos coming!

  • are you kiddin me? thats unheared of !!! amazing!!!

  • it's amazing what a good shooter can do with supposedly short ranged weapons...

  • This video deserves many more views than it currently has. Hitting a target that 230 yards way with a hand gun! Amazing shot, love the videos hickok!

  • I have just found your vids to what can i say im just getting into shooting myself and find your vids amazing. from john in ireland.

  • Hickok do you own any 10mm 1911s?

  • wow, im impressed! great shooting!

  • u are a freakin hawk shot Hickok!!

  • chuck norris better watch out

  • @thesenutsify Chuck Norris trained him in two min. Why do you think Hickok is so good?

  • perfeck

  • ok!!

  • And with a commander style model!!! Nicely done sir!!! I carry a springfield TRP and love it. You should take a look at the new Colt combat Commander Elite, I just bought one and it has the crispest trigger I have ever squeezed on a colt 1911.

  • My friend you are the ultimate beast. Just so you know I made my YouTube account just to subscribe to your videos . Also HOLY S!!!! @2:24 look at all the dust that big .45 round kicks up. Now children, that's what's called kinetic energy:) keep em coming Hickok !!

  • if i wore a hat, i would take it off to you. subscribed!

  • Why isn't this guy on top shot? Your pretty nasty my man, keep the videos coming

  • great shooting!

  • Wow that's good, I need to practice my .45. I've got a ruger p90dc.. It's a very good gun. I just need more practice..!!!

  • Hickock old buddy, you definitely have the eyes of an eagle.

    Absolutely impressive.

  • i might have to try this with my 1911. u are a great shot, keep up the good work

  • Nice shooting yay!

    Your a sharpshooter.

    Take care :)

  • And I know people that cannot hit a deer with a hi power and a scope at 230 yards

  • I know who I want on my team for the zombie apocalypse.

  • A little pistol sniping , great shooting.

  • :O holy mother of god... thats fine shooting

  • man i love 1911 best pistol ever!

  • nice shootin

  • is that a 9mm?

  • Oh Man!!! You really need to go on Top Shot ! and am going to post this on all you videos until you sign up for it.

  • 0:34-0:36 what are you doing with the gun when you do that i don't understand what this does when you move your hands up then down i have seen many people do so can someone explain to me?

  • @tucktracks

This is just his method of taking aim. It's not what I would do, because I like to simply push the weapon straight out at the target so the sights are in line and in focus when my arms fully extend. However, one cannot argue with the results since he has such a stable shooting stance and platform.

  • i wonder why birds still live at his yard..

  • @shittyfuck probably because he has plenty of steel to shoot, that he doesn't need to pointlessly kill innocent birds.

  • It's like a 2 second flight time on that thing. Sweet. Love it, I bet your chest was pretty puffed out that day. LOL Awesome.

  • I'm impressed

  • gotta love those ed browns. How do you like yours compared to any other 1911?

  • 2 people wish they had aimbot

  • best part of this video is your little chuckle when you hit. such joy, awesome shooting as always.

  • How the hell are you doing that?!? Very impressive I must say. Oh btw love your videos. Keep up the good work.

  • sweet t shirt btw

  • now i see why they call the 45 a flying ash tray lol

  • Heh, I bet you don't have any trouble with home invaders!

  • I was really impressed when you connected. Then when I realized it was a commander-sized 1911, I was stunned! You are quite the expert!

  • next time he should try from the hip

  • Wow - I couldn't do that with a rifle without some sort of rest and you're shooting a pistol offhand.

  • Holy crap man that's awesome. My friend doubts the ability of my 1911. Great shooting

  • Fantastic! I'm sending this video to a friend who claims the 1911 is inaccurate. He will dine on crow after watching you shoot. Thank you.

  • bob munden couldnt get 4 out of 9.

  • Unbelievable. My self esteem is crushed..... Nice shooting sir.

  • hi dad, you're good

  • amazing what an eye and hand control

  • Very nice shooting sir.

  • I'll tell ya old man, I first found your videos searching for beginners reloading. Since then I have watched about 25 of your vids and each and everyone of them are among the best of the best.. Just a hoot to watch and absolutely amazing to see a regular guy so damn proficient with a firearm. You are the man. Thanks for sharing Sir.

  • @rednoseroxy , Thanks. Glad you found me and that you enjoy them.

  • @hickok45

What size is your steel target? 18"?

  • ok

  • @rednoseroxy

so iam not the only one, good to know or with hickok45's word....."life is good"

  • Why don't you try the full size? I bet you could have an even better grouping on the target.

  • @1stmdcap17 , In precision shooting, a nice trigger break is way more important than barrel length. This one has an exquisite trigger.

  • @1stmdcap17

Did you not just watch this man shoot a 1911 at 230 yards? Please don't try to give hickok45 any shooting advice, he seems to be doing just fine.

  • Very cool, great shooting!

  • Next time I expect to see you shooting a moving target at 300 yards with the Glock 29 :)

  • I doubt a commander is verry accurate at that range.

  • @00000stephen, This one certainly is not; I should have hit every shot! :-)

  • @hickok45 Do it with the glock21 ;)

  • I think you old man taking Viagra?

  • @TheAKmatics Why would he mess with that nonsense when there's so much fun with guns to be had?

  • Thats awesome, I highly doubt it is lethal at that range but you can for sure say you did it.

  • @reaperflynn3 , It might not be AS lethal, but I'd say it's pretty dangerous at any range it's still traveling. I know they flatten out completely when they hit at that range. You rarely find anything left of the FMJ round. Don't think I'd want it hitting me at that range.

  • @hickok45 Hey hickok. Wondering if you could do a long range vid with some of your glocks? would love to see it. keep it up.

  • @urdufoo its been done...mayb you are overlooking it...

  • @reaperflynn3 not lethal at that range? really? its completely dangerous at that range.

  • this is freaking crazy, that would be a challenging shot with an open sighted rifle

  • wow that was impressive.....good shootin

  • Yaay finally someone posting long range shooting with the .45ACP!! I've been toying with my Series 80 at 100 yards and would LOVE to find a place to shoot long shots like this. Great video! :) If you're in VA please send me a note, I'd love to come shoot at your range!

  • I think I'll try this at the range. We have a 100 yard range nearby. Can you give pointers on how to site at these distances? How high were you aiming at 200 yards? 100 yards? Great video!!!

  • They all fall to ball, even at 230yds.

  • have you ever tried bench rest shooting any of your handguns at the 230 yard gong to see how many times you can hit it that way? i think it would be fun to see a video of you trying that method for a change.

  • Great effort considering it's effective range is no more than 50 yards.

  • @evdyo , I think the new FBI stats show that most pistol encounters are typically occurring at between 200 and 300 yards these days, so I'm just getting prepared. :-)

Just kidding, of course. Any youngsters who watch my videos and see my comments have to know I'm not always serious!

  • @hickok45 That thing about the FBI statistics. Are you also joking about that? Because if that's a real statistic, the future won't be looking to bright. I might even have to buy a pistol that can hit a target with that much distance. Which means 1911 goes out the window.

  • omfg

  • dam hickok nice shooting. the camera looks a lot better also. remember i said in your ar15 video the camera is terrible at long range zoom. it must be on a tripod now so the camera is shaky and constantly trying to fix the focus. so the ar15 video i blame the bad focus on the camera man.

  • For the love of all that is holy, please try out for the next season of Top Shot, hickok!

  • dang..... thats good shoot'n

  • mr. hickok45 u have the best videos out sir i really enjoy them can u please shoot some 38 supers i would really apreciated semper fi !!

  • ayyyyyyyyy batter batter, ayyyyyyyy batter batter, SUUUUUhhhhhhh WINNNNGGGGGGGGGGGG batterrrrrrrrrr......nice shooting senor, gotta love those ed browns

  • Mr.Browning is pleased with your performance. Oh and by the way, that is the best DAMN shirt ive seen in a while. i envy your skills and your shirt.

  • Is the Winchester 230 grain JHP ammo good for defense and is it reliable? I found some at Walmart here? Thanks Herb

  • @HerbWalker , Should be fine if your gun feeds it reliably. I'd shoot quite a lot of it to make sure.

  • Nice hat ;-)

  • Makes me long for the days (way, long time ago- 28 yrs.) I'd go out onto the mesa with a friend and his dad, and we'd shoot a 1911. Normal targets were 50 yds. or less, but sometimes he'd set up 100 or 200 yd. man-sized targets, and we'd go for it.

As a relative newbie at the time, I was happy with 2 hits at 200 yds., out of an 8 rd. magazine. My friend would score about half, and his father would usually hit every time, although he sometimes missed 1 or 2.

No place to do that here. (sigh)

  • I wish my hands were half as steady as yours.....you are just an incredible shot. I'll keep practicing and one of these days I'll put up my video of my Glock 26 hitting a gong at 230 yds.... Love all your videos, keep it up.

  • That is almost the range as regular Finnish Defense Force assault rifle training range. Don't know about other countries military or private ranges.

Our pistol training was around 50 meter and the trainer even mentioned that hitting anything beyond 100 meters is pretty wishful thinking.

  • Impressive thats is, Obi Wan.

  • Your videos rock! You are one heck of a shooter....I can tell you just enjoy the crap out of shooting. In reference to the power left at 230 yards any chance of shooting a 3/4" plywood sheet to see what various rounds would do at that distance? I would especailly be interested in the lower velocity rounds because I am sure 357s ect would zip right through. It also would be interesting to see what a .45 or .380 .22 would do to the plywood at the farthest distace you could shoot it at. THANKS!!

  • amazing shooting

  • this video is why you buy a 1911. mid to high price models are extremely accurate.

  • Man I don't know how you even see the target out that far :-)

  • What was your point of aim?

  • @XC2long4u , Middl of the target, but I held the front sight up. See VLog at the Rock Quarry; I demonstrate how I sight the long range targets.

  • I had a Hickok45 moment today! I went to a new range and shot a 12 in plate from 230 yards and hit it 3 times in a row with an M&P 40! I went " Hee Heeeee, that was fun!" with a little southern draw!

  • Excellent! Amazing!! I like the 1911s, they feel right. Have you ever thought about starting up your own shooting school?. I have a huge respect for the word experience. It is all about practice, practice and practice.

  • OK. I did my homework. The Hornady 45 Cal .451 230 gr FMJ-RN Ecapsulated bullet lists a BC of 0.184. Wikipedia gives a muzzle velocity of 830 fps for .45 ball. *Handloader dott comm* has a ballistic calculator. I entered: MV 830, BW 230 gr, sighted range: 25 yds, BC 0.184, sight ht: 0.25 inches, max range: 250 yds (10 yd intervals), no wind and normal temps/elevation.

At 230 yards: velocity = 717 fps!! (amazing); impact: -131 inches (almost 11 feet).

At 200 yards: impact: -96 inches. more

  • @GetMeThere1 :

So, interestingly, Vel at 200 yards is 729 fps, Vel at 230 = 716 fps, yet impact at 200 yards is at -96 inches, while at 230 yards it's -131. Bullet drops an additional THREE FEET from 200 to 230 yards, yet velocity falls off only 13 fps. That shows the interesting effect of bullet trajectories at low velocities. Yet energy at 230 yds is still 262 ft-lbs, while at the muzzle it's only 352 ft-lbs.

Consider yourself vindicated: a .45 at 230 yds would deliver a lethal impact.

  • Pretty damn impressive shooting! But would those rounds even break through skin, if someone had heavy clothes on, at that range?

  • @GetMeThere1 , Don't think they'd feel too good. Even at this range, we can never find any fragments of the bullets, at least the ones that hit the gong. The misses we found still in tact; I could almost reload them. Nothing left of the hits, which means they are totally shattered. So, there must be some energy left even at this distance.

  • @hickok45 : I still have a hard time believing they would have much oopmh left--but I don't doubt your word. As you've pointed out in another video, a heavy bullet by virtue of its weight alone will always have somewhat of a decent ballistic coefficient (i.e. will lose velocity slowly)--even those big clubby-shaped bullets. Wouldn't mind seeing a penetration test at that range--layers of corrugated cardboard would be a good substrate.

  • @hickok45 : Other than Contenders with scopes, the longest range pistol shooting I've ever done is with the M29 at 100 yards--amazing 3 inch groups! Better than some rifles off the rack that I've shot.

If penetration tests showed that a .45 x 230 gr. could still deliver an actual "gunshot wound," I'd probably start trying to hit a target or two out to that range, for fun. I'm a BIG 1911 fan :) I still have a Gold Cup bought around '77 that's highly accurate and functions flawlessly.

  • @GetMeThere1 yes they lost alot of velocity but you still can kill someone.

  • @GetMeThere1 Oh Yes !! 45ACP at 230 yard will kill you.

  • @GetMeThere1 230 yards is 690 feet, about 1/8 of a mile. Even .22 cartridges clearly state their dangerous range is over 1/4 mile, I'd imagine a .45 would be more dangerous than that. If you look at FPS rates at 100-200 yards, the drop in velocity is not that much at that distance.

  • @filbertman : You can check out my comment in the full comments view, where I list the ballistic info for the .45 at that range.

  • @GetMeThere1 oh, heh, i didn't look that carefully. Interesting stuff. It makes sense that the farther you go, the more the bullet is dropping. I'm thinking about those physics demonstrations where they show an object dropping straight down hits the ground at the same time as an object moving with lateral velocity that drops.

  • @GetMeThere1 a .45 ACP would go right through you at that range, bullets are alot more powerful than people give them credit for, if it put a dent in that hard steel plate it would do alot more to a soft jelly like target like you :)

  • @mrcrazygunnut : Yes, it would probably go right through you (or almost). At the muzzle, using 230gr military "ball" ammo, velocity is 830 fps. At 230 yards, velocity is still 716 fps (although the bullet has dropped about ELEVEN FEET from point of aim). See my posts elsewhere on this video for a complete description of the ballistics.

  • So I'm sitting outside and using my BlackBerry (piece of crap) to get my Hickok45 for the day. I've been fighting off bugs all night. In your video something swoops down across the camera a couple times. Took me a couple swipes before I realized it wasn't there... Sad, I know...

  • Thats 210 meters!!!

  • Following your mandate, I decided to shoot my Glock 21 at a metal gong 230 yards distant. Due to subdivision restrictions, the closest thing I could find is the dumpster behind The Reloaders Bench. Lo and Behold, several white cars with blue lettering showed up, and now I have to wait 11 months and 29 days to finish.

    What went wrong?

  • @20351MA , Not a good idea!!!

  • That's some incredible accuracy!

  • I love 1911's almost as much as your sense of humor!!

  • Comment removed

  • I hope to one day be this great of a shot with a Handgun. Wow.

  • ever shot anyone?

  • @Theboogeym4n , Just about every day, sometimes twice a day.

  • @hickok45 lmao

  • very nice :)

  • nice shooting

what model camera did you use for this?

  • @RareX , It's a Sony Handycam, about two years old.

  • Damn that's some good shooting. Nice.

  • Damn that's some good shooting. Nice.

  • That 'ol boys dialed in...

  • what helps me at distance's that far is to exhale when i squeeze the trigger

  • Nice shootin tex

  • I love that Ed Brown. Can I have it?

  • Mr. Greg ,ur simply an amazing shot...

    Nuff said.....

  • why yu takki so lng to shoot

  • @daddycane100, Don't know. How long does it take YOU?

  • @daddycane100 it takes a lot but look he hits it and that the point , many people shot fast and most of the time dont hit the target.......that gun is a beauty by the way.

  • this guy was good verry professional nice shooting range and good video thanks for the aiming tip good to know

  • yeah thats just insanely far! this range is dope...i love my colt commander, and would love to be half as accurate as this!

  • You're a deadly man, that's an awesome range though.

  • I'm sure this has been suggested before.. it would be wonderful to have a split-screen of you shooting and the other a close-up of the gong. Of course that would require a 2nd camera.. I'm sure if you put a donate for 2nd camera link people would donate. I would!

  • @natomasboy , We just talked last night about maybe showing what it looks and sounds like from out there at 230 yards. We're not sure ourselves what it would sound like. With a slow moving .45 ACP, I guess the bullet and sound would get there at about the same time. With a .223, the bullet would strike and the sound would arrive later, as with lightening. This is my guess.

  • @hickok45 with a 2nd camera you can have a lot of fun in showing different views and sounds. Piecing the 2 videos into a split-screen is pretty common to do in most video-editing software. I forgot to mention in my first post, you shoot at 230yds so easily I take it for granted! Awesome shot!

  • @hickok45

Mr. Hickok; Could you do a video on how you aim your sights for those long range targets? Kind of like a short tutorial? You're the best long distance pistol shoorter I've seen on youtube!

  • You are my God.

  • Sweet 1911 shoot. My Grandmother, fathers mother, rebuilt 1911's for US Army at the San Antonio Arsenal during WWII. Any SAA stamped came out of that shop. They took frames and put new hardware on them then back out to officers.

  • Yes, that is amazing. You're the man!

  • WOW, just amazing aim and sight !

  • Went shooting for first time in Florida few weeks back and I had trouble getting 7 x 45acp rounds in to an 8" grouping at 10yards

    let alone 230!!!!

  • I love that pistol. Great shooting as usual.

  • You are one hell of a shot!!

  • Nice can't wait till I shoot my 1911 for the first time.

  • meh, life's alright...

  • great stuff, that bullet sure does take a long time to get there though!
