  • Akira san..congratulation on your performance. I got very surprised with your ability playing this instrument. Certainly this song reminded me of wonderful moments that I had when visiting my family in Okinawa. Today I live in Sao Paulo, Brazil but part of my heart is still there. Keep on playing!!!

  • I am so very sorry to ask you another question, but you have been very kind and informative that I hope you don't mind... When I lived in Okinawa I was told the traditional headwear (a woman's hat with waves and crested by a hibiscus?)associated with the Ryukyu kimono (mostly yellow) is derived from a story about a princess in disguise. Do you know if this is true? Or, do you mind sharing what you do know about the "costume"? Again, domo arigato!!

  • Akira-san, (Sumimasen. Nihongo wasuretta!) Domo arigato gozaimasu! You are so kind to provide me with the lyrics in Romaji! It will be fun for me to review vocabulary so I can try to translate this wonderful song in English. By the way, you play the samisen so very well! I am pleased you shared your gift with all of us! Ja, mata arimashoo!

  • Doomo arigato! I greatly appreciate your swift reply to my request for the lyrics, in romanji, if possible. Soon after I received your response, I did some online surfing. Can you believe that, not only are the lyrics available, but you can download the ringtone?! Wow. Okinawa has come a long way! (By the way, please tell me that Blondie's lyrics in "Magic" are not the same as translated from Asadoya Yunta! Ha!)

  • Where can I acquire the words to "Asadoya Yunta"? If they're available in Romanji, that would be great! Thanks!

(PS - At Expo 1975 in Okinawa I bought a small music box souvenir, and from time to time, I wind the lever so I can return to Okinawa. Until locating your video and hearing your well presented demonstration & clear voice, I had no idea I have listened to this song all these years!!) THANK YOU!

  • Haha, I'm glad to know that. This song is really famous in Okinawa.

I'll put the lyrics on the video description. There's a 500 characters limit for comments.

  • amazin, i wish i could play....

  • Great. Do you have the kunkunshi for this?

  • omg u rock!!!!

  • Wow. You sing AND PLAY well. I wish I could sing an instrument and play at the same time. You sound like you could be in an Okinawan album. All you need is some drums. Very beautifully done.

  • Thanks, mate! It's true!! If I had some taiko accompaniment, it would be great! I like taiko very much!

  • I first heard this song on a Ryuichi Sakamoto's "Beauty" and instantly fell in love with it. Listening to your version makes me fall in love with it all over again. Amazing.

Can you tell me if the Chinese sanxian is tuned the same way as a shamisen? Because I plan on getting one when I got China this December.

  • Thanks for your compliment!

I don't know much about Chinese sanxian but I believe it might be tuned the same way. I'm not sure, though!

  • Hi from New Zealand. I just received my Ohnishiki from Japan. I love the song Asadoya Yunta, i look forward to learning it and learning more songs but resources here are a little thin. I guess if you can't go local then go global. ha! Great playing too!

  • most exellent!

  • Wow!!! you are soooooo good! wicked! i wish i could play my sanshin as good as you are... my goal is to sing and play asadoya yunta!!!! chibaryou hamaryou!

  • Ohhh, thanks! I feel more at ease when I'm playing alone in my room. The camera makes me feel a little uneasy! haha! Thanks mate! I'm trying to do my best to improve always.

  • Great job, I'm still trying to find someone who can translate the lyrics into Japanese (or English) so I can figure out what the song means.

  • Thank you, it is very good.
