  • looks like a flying ball sack

  • Cargo and raw material transport will be never the same again! Imagine that large seaports, huge terminals and (too) long, expensive and space-consuming railways are going to be obsolete.

  • its like a big BUTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • ...commercial cargo. Heavy-lift. Construction. What's with all this childish weaponization bs? Kids play way too many games...

  • can't see any good of that thing :D

  • a Botero design?

  • what a cute thing

  • Why lockheed-martin? why not.. Ebay? After all, this will, eventually, be used to carry commercial merchandise worldwide with minimal fuel costs.

  • more like a fat ass :)

  • You said it.

  • It looks like a fat guy looking for young penis.

  • I cannot offer any thoughtful comment, so I'm just going to say that from the start of the video it first looked like a giant pastry.

  • Now we know what the P in P791 stands for -- I christen thee the Lockheed Porkymobile!

  • That thing needs to go on weight watchers regime!

  • put some cameras on this and this this is the perfect eye in the sky in low intensity conflicts. If it were me I would have many of these things in the skies over afghanistan

  • @sethmauseth any anti tank weapon would bring it down not to mention artillery and hi caliber bullets... just a huge and slow target in the sky

  • @varer I agree with you on the artillery but if you put this thing high enough it wouldn't been detected by your average jihadi. Again low intensity. Russians, Chicoms hell even the tajiks could take one down. Non state actors not so much. This would be cheaper then satellites, easier to replace and easier to retask. This thing has a niche.

  • It's a hoverpig!

  • looks like aircraft from Miyazaki film

  • WOW PIG DOES FLY!

  • I shall call it the Fat Ass.

  • @primoknoxville lol. I was thinking the same thing!

  • the idea I think is a heavy lifter that can land on bomb cratered or no runways at all using hover pads and having incredibly long endurance... think of this coupled with the new airborne anti missle laser, on station for months quietly sipping fuel... waiting patiently to get that incoming missles without the cost and fuel of keeping 747 airborne.

  • @spirotagnw ya that thing would get fucked up in combat so fast u clown its called parachutes the military wouldnt land such a large air craft in a combat zone

  • LMAO Is this what they mean when pigs fly??

  • this looks expensive and failure.

  • i hope it can work...?...i don't know but to me it looks kinda like a giant catapiller that ate way too much...

  • CLEAVEAGE!

  • it looks like a bum to me

  • RIDE THE PIG!!

  • 0:43 OH SHIT HOW DO I LAND THIS THING??

  • This project is a pretty big deal. It's quite secret, but I think the aim is to be able to fly very high, stay aloft for long periods inexpensively (little fuel needed once high up), do lots of recon over enemy territory, and be able to watch and communicate in real-time with high resolution battlefield data. Sounds like good stuff....

  • Sorry sir, you can't let you board today, we've overbooked the 5 seats we have (2 of which are pilots), and besides, the moderate breeze triples the duration of the flight.

But I can offer you that bicycle which might actually be faster...

  • @a1mint

These are made for military and in future (if everything goes alright) to haul cargo.

    P-791 is only prototype.

  • @MokomaSusi Those things can barely make it off the ground. What type of cargo? Paper documents?

  • @a1mint

Why do you ask me? You find all answers from the interweb. You are being really ignorant here... almost like creationist.

i suggest that you start with "SkyHook JHL-40" and then read about LEMV.

    Good luck.

  • @MokomaSusi I can assure, I'm one of the farthest from being a creations you'll encounter.

Anyway, I'll look it up. I was just kidding around, not being serious at all.

  • @MokomaSusi So, Wikipedia has a good summary on it.

40 tons vs 10 tons a typical CH-47 Chinook can carry. That *is* impressive.

Require less fuel. Canadian company Skyhook holds a patent on this. I'm Canadian btw, so something to be proud of I guess.

So, it being a combination of a blimp and a helicopter changes everything. The Skyhook is not a silly good year like blimp.

  • @a1mint

Let's hope they won't have financial problems in future. That is the reason why most similar projects have fallen.

  • @MokomaSusi It being able to carry 40 tons vs 10 tons of a double blade helicopter might make it suitable for heavy duty tasks like fire fighting. And instead of just dumping water or flame retardants, it could hover over a fire, and spray water in the right directions. That without all that crazy wind you normally get from a helicopter, less of it, anyway. Just an idea.

  • @MokomaSusi No, the reason most similar projects have fallen is because of my airgun...

  • Needs more thrust, so it can go faster. Looks like a big sitting duck.

More thrust to the hoverfeet, what sort of load can it carry?

  • Super Fukin Size me AmeriKA!

  • Don't see any advantage to the hovercraft landing gear. Lots of added weight and complexity and worse ground handling.

  • IT'S JUST 3 BLIMPS PUT TOGETHER! WHAT THE FUCK WERE THEY THINKING?!

  • they should turn that into a freakin hotel with a viewing deck.... that would be.... EPICLY AMAZING!!!!!

  • Thunderbird 2?

  • Holy shit a flying pig!? Porkin`s go forth and spread they bacon across the land.

  • where do they keep that thing and in what state is it in?

  • Awesome!!!

  • whats the name of the song??? plz write back.

  • @cartoontom9 The Ghostbusters Marshmallow Man Strikes Back

  • It really isn't fair to call this a blimp. Blimps are lighter that air (aerostatic lift aka bouyancy) vehicles that do not require downward thrust or air movement over wings (aerodynamic lift) to stay airborne. The P-791 is a heavier than air craft and requires aerodynamic lift although it is partially supported aerostatic lift and if therefore considered a 'hybrid' aircraft. As you can see though, landing is tricky despite good in flight performance.

  • @dragonamt its not concider a blimp

    its concider a hybrid airship

  • Probably a high-altitude observation platform, with tons of a sensors. Blimps can stay aloft a lot longer than planes without muchy fuel.

  • похоже на трусы, натянутые на жопу

  • what they use it for? you can't pick up a tank with this thing

  • at 0:30 it looks like a yummy sandwich!

  • This is so COOL! I saw a documentary about this some 5 years ago on the Discovery Channel, back then they still only had an RC model. I thought that they scrapped the idea... But still very cool to see it in reality! :D

  • now thats what an Airbus SHOULD be, something that , if and when it breaks, it most likely wont be major...

  • looks like a flying ass

  • @adr712

    You are absolutely right

  • Tow it with a V-22 to increase speed. Refuel the V-22 from the zeppelin during the flight.

  • With the amount of freight these things can move (up to 100 tons for some designs), they'd be great for transporting goods in harsh terrain and for disaster relief.

  • @TheJudgingEye Except for its lack of handling in stong and turbulent winds in most harsh and mountainous terrains. But you have a point, there may be some conditions under which this could be used for disaster relief.

  • Did you see the size of that plumbers crack on that thing?

  • we call it builders butt lol

  • man... you guys got to look into the areos program, these things will be the SUV of the air- good for designated and utility tasks.

  • yeah.. so they can fight for our freedom... Zietgeist...

  • Lockheed-Martin's P-791 looks like an ideal candidate for such missions and should be of a see-thru material so as to be invisible to the naked eye. Even USAF officers are in favor of LTA:

  • Do you not understand what this is for?! This is to carry military militia to points around the globe where airplanes cannot reach. These things can carry 12 tanks (80 tons each) in its cargo bay and take it. It's not for luxury people. Learn more about what they are doing instead of talking trash.

  • I have not seen the point of this aircraft... why make what is basivally a Zep then make it incapable of VTOL and thus needing to add hovercraft motors to make it take off like a plane (ok, still it can take off from grass I guess but still no VTOL as this craft is only 80% Zep thus still needs some addional 20% lift from its speed...

there are better solutions and a normal Zep is such one.

  • all that fucking drama for a little carriage at the bottom....fucking million dollar piece of shit i say!

  • looks like rosey odonnells ass

  • It maybe slow but i would rather travel in around in that rather than a plane due to safety.

  • It's only a test vehicle.

  • Test vehicle or not it's still ugly & I hope any final decisions don't result in the creation of something nearly as overexascerbating & pointless as this monstrosity. Somemarriages between things are simply not mean to happen. Like the car & the airplane. The same applies here between hovercraft & blimp & for just 1 pilothouse at that.

  • are you stupid this thing would transport battalions across continents. know your shit before you post a stupid comment

  • Ahem, look up the spruce goose sometime. As impressive as it was it still could only haul so much & come up short.

How about you use some of your own advice for a change.

  • huge craft for small cabin, and can not fly with high winds, bad idea...

  • Dear All,

I have some questions about psychology:

*Why do we love flying and being in the sky?

*Why do we always want to build new flying mechine?

*Why do we have better self-image if we are an aviation professional?

THANK YOU IN ADVANCE for your creative idea and brainstorm!!! :)

  • It's probably because we cannot do it naturally, but birds can fly, so we wanted to fly to :P

  • damn

  • Yet another interesting British concept exported to the US. When will we ever learn to develop our own technology.. :(

I saw a scale model prototype of this thing flying around Cardington in Bedfordshire a few years back, it looked pretty clumsy and I thought it was doomed to failure, but full marks to Lockheed Martin for taking the idea and running with it...

  • British? This is build by Lockheed Martin. You are talking about similar SkyCat vehicle.

  • Ah, my apologies to Lockheed Martin. It's interesting though that representatives of LM and the US military were at the SkyCat demonstration flight.

  • Damn!!... that's ugly.....

  • heard they have huge amount of lift. Future shipping containers that can land anywhere

  • MOM?!!!

  • It's a airscraft.

  • wow, i am impressed! i did not know that we had the tech to be able to make huge metal submarines fly!

  • a flying bill broad for the games.

  • It's obviously to be used to defend us against RODAN.

  • @cornskid leave this release to Toho Studios

  • Pop solar panels on top and htis thing would kickass!

  • flying fat butt?

  • interesting!

  • a UFO.

  • that is cool but still looks like double sided pigs ass with four stumps and who said pigs cant fly.

Although its still pretty cool but i wonder how it would deal with really heavy cross winds.

  • that's crazy! thanks for sharing

  • WTF? Holy shit. I would compare that thing to fat girls and mopeds. They are a lot of fun to ride, just don't let your friends see.

  • Should have used Pink Floyd as background music!

Pigs on the wing for sure!

  • They should go whole hog on this and give it a curly tail and a piggy snout. Hell why not?

  • Brilliant!

  • @katana4 LMFAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @IpcressF

Would it really be a swine to fly?

  • looks like an ass

  • badass

  • That is awesome! Really weird looking too.
