that was one of the best commentaries i have heard from you :D. the sword thing was called a 'clang' the elite meleed you at the same time that you swung the sword at him, so he kind of 'blocked' the sword, took some damage to his shields but still survived. a clang is when 2 people melee eachother simultaneously, the damage depending on if its a melee or a melee weapon is split between the two players. pretty much he blocked your sword with a melee.

The problem with the sword block is when you melee to block it's as if you got hit by a normal melee but the person with the sword takes no damage so there's no counter to the sword at all if just delays it

Power weapons are not cheap. The way they are designed is to up one part of your combat and down the other. The DMR and BR are so commonly used because they are the perfect 50/50 mix of both long range and close range. The Shotgun is more like 10/90 in favor of close range therefore it is balanced. You can beat a shotgun guy with a normal gun easy you just have to go into the fight differently.

Slayer, swat and snipers are alot easier when your team leaves specially swat and snipers its like everyone in the game has one hit kills and they have 4 people to kill you only have 2. For objective gametypes when your teammates leave you may aswell leave too, your not going to win players down in multiflag all that often.
