guys please help me,. i am installing windows 7 on my lenovo t500, at first it says bootmgr is missing so i repaired it,but when it is done and trying to install the os again it says -windows cannot install required files. the file does not exist. and i got an error code:0x80070002,. what should i do guys,. thank you in advance,.

Please for the love of all that is holy in the computer world, update your description and REMOVE THE 16BIT REFERENCE. There hasn't been a 16bit Windows OS for well over 10 years. Vista comes in 32bit and 64bit, CLEARLY LABELED IN THE SUPPORT DOCS YOU REFERENCED. The gesture in helping others is appreciated, but don't give false information.

I will change forthwith (if not sooner) - I meant to put 32 & 64, but must have inadvertently made the error due to my brain being frazzled after repairing the computer and putting the video together for the help of others!! hey, my laptop screwed up and my operating system was gone, I got to the point where i had to put iin my original key. after that the screen read "Windows cannot open the required file D:\sources\install.wim. The file does nto exist. Make sure all files required for installation are available, and restart the installation. Error code: 0x80070002" please help me, should i do this?

Damn! Sorry dude. Did you download the right version of the System Update Readiness Tool? There's a 16bit one and a 32bit one.

Also, admittedly, I did try the other things mentioned on the video beforehand (ie System File Checker) so maybe try that 1st?

(Deleting the contents of C:/Windows/SoftwareDistributio­n/Download destroys all details of previous updates, so only do that as a last resort, or maybe save the files to another location?)

@dlwill80 - on XP, you 'start' , all programs, accessories, COMMAND Prompt

then type in

sfc /scan now

(making sure there's a space after sfc)
