i have a hitachi hdc-1409ep camera and i am from the UK i dropped the camera and the lens has jammed in so it is wonky at the side and when i turn it on the lens doesnt move or make a noise but the camera turns on makes the 'on' noise and the mode button flashes then it turns back off :( please tell me what i can do. p.s the camera is insured
Dropped my Pana DMC-LX5 and broke the LCD. Camera still took pictures, as I could view them on my PC's cardreader. I purchased a new LCD from Panasonic Parts and it was simple to install using downloaded service manual. PROBLEM: When I turn camera on the LCD works fine and previews the last picture taken, then within seconds it goes dark and says: "This Battery Cannot Be Used" and shuts off. Got another OEM battery, same problem. If I'm fast, 3 sec, I can get 1 pic. Your expert Advice!?

I have a casio exilim, and while videoing my dog, it fell off the stand, and fell on the back, flat on the screen. Now, nothings wrong with the screen, but the lens got jammed. @BridgitBorderCollie Yikes. The mechanical elements of the lens assembly -- the part that makes the lens go in and out -- are very precision made and extremely delicate. Trying to force these mechanisms is a really bad idea, it's almost guaranteed to ruin them.
I have run into a comparable problem with my Canon ZR-80 mini-DV camcorder. I foolishly tried to speed up the loading of the tape with a little pressure, and it's busted for real, about $200 will get it repaired. New camera time. ;)

@kae258 If you take it apart, start looking for tiny ribbon cables that have their connectors popped loose from sockets. I've had two different cameras, one a camcorder and one a digi-cam, and both got dropped and both were fixed by pressing a cable terminator back into the socket. It sounds to me as if perhaps the connector to the charging plug might be loose. Also, rechargable batteries do have limited lifespans, it's possible that the internal battery has reached the end of lifetime. Replace.

@GomezVendable Probably you can't fix this. Usually there's a charging circuit on a chip, you would have to find out which chip and then replace that. When you use the wrong charger, especially if it reverses polarity and applies excess voltage, a tiny diode on the chip goes *pop* and that means the chip is dead.
@ThomasHardmanJr sometimes it's a diode that blows, easy fix if that's the case. Sometimes the components hold up, but the chip gets blown, then that's a very hard repair

hello, i bought a canon sd1300 digital camera a month ago, and while i was carrying it in my pocket, i fell in the water at a ravine. The camera seems to be working fine except screen display which is not clear. I was told water got into the screen so I should put my camera in a bowl of rice without battery or memory card and let it dry. Not likely you can fix this. You probably bought junk for $5.00
Sounds to me like the whole LCD display is shot. You could check on buying a replacement, but other parts might be broken as well.
In any case, since you only spent five dollars, take it apart and try to put it back together, it's good practice even if it doesn't fix it. Plus, you might actually get it to work. ;)
Just be careful guys n gals. If you do this, be aware of the capacitor for the electronic flash (top LH corner 2:50). It may be charged with a voltage in excess of 300 volts. Accidental touching (terminals and/or parts of the circuit board) may result in a loud yowl, accompanied by a reflex action causing the camera to fly across the room. In really extreme cases, it could kill you! The capacitor should be discharged with a resistor unless you like to live dangerously!

Maybe check connectors from motherboard to lens motors. That may repair it. I did not disassemble lens motor system to discover mechanism operating principles.
If my camera breaks that part, maybe I will look! If you can fix yours, please make a video to explain it. Then maybe comment here about how you fix it!
I have no idea, other than to contact Samsung directly. I'm not sure they will even sell a screen by itself, they might require that you send it to them for repairs. Might as well ask them, though.
@debbyellen1 - Ebay is a good place to buy a screen. You can buy a broken one with good screen or the screen by itself. Broken cameras go for $ 14.99-$19.99 while screens go btw $19.99-$29.99
Sounds like either the display connector came loose, or the imaging chip came loose or is cracked. If the camera is taking pictures (you can see new pictures on the storage chip if you copy them to computer) but you can't see it on the display, it's probably the display connector come loose. If it powers up and you can't store pictures off to the computer and see them, then it's likely the imaging chip or connector. Make sense?
Watch these videos in this series, it _may_ work for you. If it's already broken, go ahead and try to fix it, unless you want to pay big money to have someone else do it. If you dropped it probably the internal connector came loose. If you actually broke a component this won't help.

I hope it wasn't my bad advice! Because, frankly, this worked for me. You could have been experiencing problems other than a loosened connector. And if the camera worked before you took it apart, why take it apart?
Camera gay? ROFL. Nope, actually I mostly do my own repairs for anything I can. Mostly that is servers. I'm surprised that this camera repair worked, but it did, and it also worked for the video camera that took this series.

@Tu2woley2k You must get the original Panasonic batteries. My Lumix GF2 does the same time to time, just turn it on and off and it starts working.

After watching this video, I did exactly what you did, pressing down on the processing board, and there! I had the image back. You Rock!

I don't know. Good question!
Maybe check connectors from motherboard to lens motors. That may repair it. I did not disassemble lens motor system to discover mechanism operating principles.
If my camera breaks that part, maybe I will look! If you can fix yours, please make a video to explain it. Then maybe comment here about how you fix it!

we broke the screen on our samsung. I'd like to repair myself but don't know where to buy a new screen. Any ideas?

I have no idea, other than to contact Samsung directly. I'm not sure they will even sell a screen by itself, they might require that you send it to them for repairs. Might as well ask them, though.

@debbyellen1 - Ebay is a good place to buy a screen. You can buy a broken one with good screen or the screen by itself. Broken cameras go for $ 14.99-$19.99 while screens go btw $19.99-$29.99

Sounds like either the display connector came loose, or the imaging chip came loose or is cracked. If the camera is taking pictures (you can see new pictures on the storage chip if you copy them to computer) but you can't see it on the display, it's probably the display connector come loose. If it powers up and you can't store pictures off to the computer and see them, then it's likely the imaging chip or connector. Make sense?

Watch these videos in this series, it _may_ work for you. If it's already broken, go ahead and try to fix it, unless you want to pay big money to have someone else do it. If you dropped it probably the internal connector came loose. If you actually broke a component this won't help.

Well, you have to be very delicate, you know. You may have had some other problem, and if the camera was working, why try to fix it?

I hope it wasn't my bad advice! Because, frankly, this worked for me. You could have been experiencing problems other than a loosened connector. And if the camera worked before you took it apart, why take it apart?

Camera gay? ROFL. Nope, actually I mostly do my own repairs for anything I can. Mostly that is servers. I'm surprised that this camera repair worked, but it did, and it also worked for the video camera that took this series.
