It wasn't that he lacked talent. Or that he had a bad attitude. He was unlucky. If he was given a chance to play in serious championship contending team he could've gotten his ring.
Because "Van" names are Norwegian, I sing this to the tune of the Norwegian National Anthem: "His name's Nick the Quick Van Exel, fa la la la la la la...He plays like a double axel, fa la la la la la la!"
alot of people dont realize how good he was.....he can shoot and be on fire like jordan....he can make really good passes...he was quick....he made buzzer beaters......he was good in the playoffs.......he was consistent then .....
one of the most underated basketball players in lakers history and nba history......this guy was consistent.....didnt sleep in the playoffs.......could be on fire like jordan......and made great passes.....and then.....was also very quick. . . . . . . .
damn, what else can I say. If you play basketball, you need to learn how to dunk. I just recently finished the training program at - snipurl[dot]com/nbatraining – and now I can dunk with EASE (I'm only 5'7!)
van exel was more like jason terry. he was my fav player when he was a laker, but Wade is a much better player. better at getting to the rim, more physical, better defender, rebounder. They both play with attitude, though.
Nick was the man! Wished La kept him because he and Fisher would have been the best pg combo for the Lakers both Lefties and both were sick from the land of 3
Holy crap, you're right: that's a remarkable comparison. Both of them are streaky scorers who can get hot quickly, both have great three-point shots, both about the same height coming off the bench to play the 1 and 2 positions (well, Terry has recently). Van Exel's probably got better handles and Jet's probably a better defender. But they are very similar (they even sort of look the same in a Mavs uniform).
Sam Cassell, Nick Van Exel, mookie blaylock, bj armstrong, and jameer nelson. those are the point guards who never really got appreciated for how good they played
You have to add Mark Price and Kevin Johnson to the list of most underrated point guards although Van Exel was one of the best in between game guards he was unguardable 10-15 feet away from the basket. I also loved the fact that he shot free throws damn near at the top of the key, lol.
nick was a good pg but damn he was the most laid back, relaxed, cool point gaurd ever ...jason terry, rafer alston, chauncy billups all yall aint got nothin on nick
nicky van excellenty! ^_^
