  • Both my husband and I suffer from exactly the same seizures, not right away but at about the time one of us relaxes to the point of deep sleep. They are not painful exactly but they do wake us up, if he's jumping, I wake up. Vise versa. We can both get real sleepy and usually the jumping starts AFTER we turn off the tv.

  • Closed induces seizures

  • Probably would help not to have the tv on... Flashing lights while my eyes c

  • I've never been diagnosed, but it looks similar to what i feel when I "sleep." I have more movement in my arms, and have been known to throw violent punches in my sleep. So far i've punched my mom, my ex husband, myex boyfriend, my son and my current boyfriend, all while still asleep.

  • I have epilepsy and get those all night every night on meds. I was diagnosed when I was 13, I am now 41. My epilepsy doesn't show up on an EEG (awake) anyway. The doc said, just because it doesn't show up, doesn't mean I don't have epilepsy anymore. My Grand Mal ones are controlled but the small ones and sleep ones, I'm not sure how big they get in my sleep but I know I have them, they wake me up. I'll have to ask my Hubby if he notices.

  • My father was diagnosed almost 8 years ago with sleep apnea, and uses a CPAP machine at night to sleep comfortably. Before using the machine, he'd have twitches and jitters similar to you, except it was due to the fact that his body was basically gasping for a breath of air. His breaths would be deep during sleep, but he would get caught in it as if he were choking. If I would ever wake him, he'd breathe normallly for a few minutes and then return back to the deep snoring.

  • The TV being on the background is most likely causing some of your problems. After much research on our own and talking to other people, electronic activity in the room you sleep in can be a trigger. Even cell phones just plugged in and not running close to your bed can be a problem. Reduce or eliminate as many electronic disturbances as you can.

  • My 14 yo has a condition exactly like this...she'll be asleep maybe 20 minutes or so and then the arms start flailing...its much like watching a dog dreaming of running. She has a sleep study with thermal brain mapping on 12/7 {today}. She was diagnosed with epilepsy at 20 months. She also started sleep walking {oh joy} recently and it appears she's having absence seizures. Her neuro feels however ~ due to trauma ~ it's a form of PTSD. Hoping for some answers!

  • I have little continuous jerks when I start to fall asleep. I do have epilepsy, simple left temporal lobe seizures. I've never blacked out, but have real strange feelings throughout the day. Worse when I'm stressed or drink. I'm going to an impatient stay on 12/05 for monitoring 24/7, video, etc. They have ruined my life, unable to work, loss of memory. Any symptoms during the day? Not all EEG will catch seizures, but every EEG I've had has been abnormal.

  • This happens to me..exactly like this.

It usually happens when i'm laying on my back. Try laying on your side or stomache. For me, it feels like when I lay on back and lean my head sideways..the same way u fall asleep..its triggers the nerves..maybe based on sleeping positions.

  • The flashes of light from the tv are triggering it.

  • The flashes of light from the tv are triggering it.

  • its a demon messing with you.. look into it. i have the same problem.

  • So, are you able to enter into REM sleep and if so, shouldn't that cause muscular atonia?

  • i think i might have this also.

my girlfriend tells me that she's physically watched me stop breathing and twitch while i'm sleeping, and sometimes i'll wake up feeling like something is grabbing me and i'll catch myself twitching.

she also tells me i snore so loud that she can't sleep with me.

i don't sleep very much, and when i do, its only for short periods and its not very deep.

i don't have medical coverage, so i can't get this looked at by a professional, nor can i afford to either.

  • @0208thebreed I just tried to wake up but couldnt open my eyes.I feel as tho Im paralized & I panick,& as soon as I lay down to go to sleep,as soon as my body starts to relax,I start twitching. My finger will fly up for no reason.Sometimes my heart jumps as well.My leg or lower body will jerk to 1 side.Im afraid to sleep anymore.Parts of my body are numb.I have twitches all over but my heart scares me.At times it feels like someones pressing a fist into my hip or waist & it hurts.I cant move.Sub.

  • @SmokinMo11

    Been to the doctor?

  • when I was move new apt frist time seizure by sleep and hard time drink of muscle cramps where from? and mabye not mush drink or meat or dry body I has no idea by my doc say this

  • the twitches your having when you sleep kinda look like the ones I have when Im awake but its usually just my arms.i get more of the twitches when I dnt get enough sleep or If Im stressing out about something.....

  • my fiance does the same exact thing you do in your sleep only 1,000x worse. It's not apnea, he doesn't stop breathing. I have no footage but he wants me to film it because he is obviously not aware of what he is doing. In addition to the twitches he shakes violently enough to wake me up. I feel bad for him. It's scary. I have compensated by slapping him (lovingly) so he goes back to square one. He has not been to a sleep center....yet.

  • i dont really see the problem, no one remains statue like when they are asleep. immobolisation which is when you cannot move or speak but are fully aware that your sleeping is exptreemly frightening, i feel as though i am trembling or have a full on fit with a racing heart and untill i relax and let go I can then move and am able to wake.

  • hey:

thanks for posting. the thing is i have uncontrolled sleep apnea. i have taken an EEG but nothing showed. i have never had a seizure. what i have is supposed to be due to the breathing efforts/awakenings of sleep apnea. the weird thing is those jumps/jerks aren´t common with sleep apnea. do your jumps disrupt your sleep? are you not having them now that you´re on medication for epilepsy i supose?

    john.

  • I am going through all of this now. about 2 years ago I kept getting these twitches and I couldn't really give them a name other then describing that usually early in the morning I would jump/throw whatever I was holding/and have quick movements and they were similar to what you are having, after seeing a neurologists, I had my first grand mal seizure a few weeks ago and they did an EEG and other tests and they are saying it is Myoclonic Epilepsy, an EEG picked it up I would recommend one

  • Hey I got the same problem I have seizures during my sleep and is a form of epilepsy that only happens during sleep, there are several ways u can stop it, first is seizures during sleep mainly happen when ur sleep deprived so if u can fix ur sleep pattern u'll find u'll have less seizure but also with the sleep apnea seizures can happen from lack of oxygen to, I had to get my tonsils out to get more oxygen an since then I only have a seizure when I'm sleep deprived hope this helps

  • You probably tried this already but turning off and unplugging everything electrical might help. I know it sounds silly but some people are extremely sensitive to electric and electromagnetic fields. Since our brain communicates with our bodies via bio-electric impulses it is possibly an interference you experience. Some people even buy special equipment to measure electric, electro magnetic or sometimes even geo magnetic fields and place their beds accordingly.

  • May be sleep apnea. Get a sleep study done.

  • they said it was sleep myoclonia, but not epillepsy. i´ve never had a day time seizure, but i´ve always had sleep issues. I have sleep apnea and reflux, so those affect my sleep. i´ve never thought of something else added to the ecuation, but those jumps are so bad sometimes, and unusual. both my parents had a brother with epillepsy though, i don´t know if epillepsy is hereditary. if you wanna write, my e mail is sjhon_fabio@hotmail.com

  • @MrJhonfa this is just like my friends seizures!

  • Hey!!! I didn´t see your message until today. I already took one EEg and even one videotelemetry to check for night time seizures/sleep epilepsy and it was ruled out. But now I read all these posts about people testing negative for epilepsy several times and tehn turning out to finally have epillepsy at their last test!!! I don´t know what to do about it, i forgot about epillepsy after that, but the truth is i sltill sleep very poorly and keep having all these weird jerks

  • my daughter has a similar condition and has been diagnosed with frontal lobe epilepsy. she currently takes oxycarbazepine which helps. 3 normal eeg ad 1 abnormal. sleep eeg was also normal. she is always very sleepy the next day. good luck!!

  • looks like the movment is coming from below the cam...your legs perhaps. Periodic Limb Movement Disorder. This can be verified at a sleep lab.

  • @hcim71 i don´t have periodic legs movement disorder

  • i will contact you via email, regards tracy

  • hi, i have pretty much the same problems as you except i dont think my face twitches quite so much, but the rest of me does. i had an eeg which was neg. now my dr says im having non epiltic seizures in my sleep due to stress, im due to have yet another sleep study to confirm this. i to feel so tired all the timeand like you have done for years. thanks for posting your vid im glad im not alone. all the best

  • Thanks for replying. So sorry to hear that,.. but do you get to actually live a normal life? I mean do you sleep well? I live so tired I´m already depressed. I hink they wont prescribe any prolonged EEG test. My sleep deprived EEG and brain MRI were negative. I had 2 uncles with epilepsy though. So, sleep twitches can actually be another symptom of night time seizures (epilepsy) hah? Does your medication for epilepsy make you sleep any better?

  • No, I never sleep normally. I wake up many times a night due to the seizure activity. The seizure medication helps me sleep a little better as it normalizes things somewhat, but not completely. I need to have an add on medication. The twitching in itself can be a seizure all together. One or two eeg's could tell you nothing, you sometimes need multiple EEG;s to find out things. I had 6 normal EEG's before I started having abnormal ones.

  • I have sleep myoclonus and seizures in my sleep due to possible Epilepsy. Have you had a sleep study done? Or a prolonged EEG study? If it occurs nightly you might wanna look into an Epilepsy Center to get it checked out with your brain waves. I have myoclonic seizures, grand mal seizures, and coplex partial seizures that occur out of sleep, but I also twitch throughout the whole night.
