That creepy little sound when the painting is moving its eyes has haunted me for years. I never got it out of my head. I'm 34 now and looked this up today. I haven't heard that sound in so many years, but I remember it exactly as it is here. And it still gives me the creeps.
@sonjiya me too when i was a kid id wake up early morning to watch this show id be all alone in my basement with my toy wood sword this show freaked me out and that was before all the drugs..lol
Same here! I watched this program virtually every day without fail. I loved Today's Special! I taped the episodes so I could watch them again and again. But there were two exceptions: After seeing the episodes "Late" where Muffy gets stuck behind a wall, and "Fire," where Muffy's cousin Mort sets Muffy's place on fire, I would not view those two again. Those two were scary. This particular episode, "Adventure" was slightly scary too, but it didn't bother me as much as "Late" or "Fire."
Nightmares as an adult? Hmmm, I don't think I would have nightmares as an adult from watching that episode. However, "fire" was too scary for some children, and the writers of Today's Special really should have known that. I did not have nightmares, but it made it hard for me to GET to sleep at night, out of fear of the possibility of a house fire.
"Late" was the scariest one for me, seeing poor Muffy trapped behind the wall. That one made me scared of the pipes in the basement!
i remember watching this episode as a kid. i had memories of them standing by the signs and in part 3 when they are stuck and there is a window above. its so weird watching it again now that i'm almost 30. childhood memories!!!

This proves that all one needs to make a quality program is a blue/green screen, a Haunted Castle sign, and an iguana.

@Jibjub80 I really liked Late and Fire because of the fear factor . . . but I won't lie, I still have nightmares about fire as an adult!
