a sabot round is a round that is smaller than the bore diameter of the barrel but has an addition to make a seal with the barrel. it prevents the projectile gas from escaping from around the round.

Yeah, but you've got to realise that the biggest disadvantage of asking the military for help when making a war movie is that it will not support any movie that does not potrayy it in anything another than a positive way. That ensures that the movie is heavily pro-American and far from unbiased. There's no greatter example of that than Black Hawk Down.

The portrayal of military firepower in this movie is kind of inaccurate, and obviously weak. The producers obviously expected an uneducated audience to be watching this so I suppose it doesn't matter anyway.
the a-10 couldn't have torn up because if you watch the movie the robot has advanced armor and was only penetrated by the ac-130's 105 saber rounds because it heats up to 6000 degrees and can melt tank armor.
To people saying A-10 is going out: It will be in service till at least 2028!
The armor of the Transformer could also be penetrated by 120mm sabot rounds from M1A2/M1A1 Abrams which are significantly more powerfull then 105mm rounds.
The A-10s can only tore up tanks with the GAU-8 because from above it hits the (thin) top armor of a tank.
Ah, this part's so fake. The a-10 woulda tore that thing up; plus the gau-8 sounds soooooo much cooler in real life. Too bad hollywood has to eff things up.

40mm sabot rounds from handheld grenade launcher had some effects, but only at weaker areas of the Transformers. A-10 gun could also do it if aiming for weaker areas, but from a fast moving jet it is difficult to aim at these weaker areas.
As you can see in the scene Scorponok does appear to be wounded by the A-10 attack.
The noise of the a-10s firing the gau is pretty tame in this. You can still hear the individual shots. The actual thing sounds much, much scarier, like a monster roaring or something. Still, BEST SCENE IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE. I went to watch this in the theater 3 times for this scene alone.
Funniest thing was when a JTAC told us to "bring the rain" on a fire mission last summer... It's hard to close the breech on the 105 when you're laughing your ass off. Oh, and we killed the morons that were shooting at the friendlies. :)

Yeah I love the A-10, its to bad the F-35 will be replacing it. I think the Army should use should get the A-10 since they aren't getting the F-35.

darrenhorwingum- Actually, from what I heard the U.S. military is gonna retire the A-10 by 2012. I just said Army should use it because I like for the U.S. military to keep it in use, instead we are probably gonna just sell it.

lol its funny the army thinks the same thing cuz a while ago the air force was gonna retire it and the army said hell no we like it so we'll buy it..and the air force didn't like that idea so they stuck with it..but hey i ain't complaining =D

40mm sabot rounds from handheld grenade launcher had some effects, but only at weaker areas of the Transformers. A-10 gun could also do it if aiming for weaker areas, but from a fast moving jet it is difficult to aim at these weaker areas.
As you can see in the scene Scorponok does appear to be wounded by the A-10 attack.

The noise of the a-10s firing the gau is pretty tame in this. You can still hear the individual shots. The actual thing sounds much, much scarier, like a monster roaring or something. Still, BEST SCENE IN THE ENTIRE MOVIE. I went to watch this in the theater 3 times for this scene alone.

Funniest thing was when a JTAC told us to "bring the rain" on a fire mission last summer... It's hard to close the breech on the 105 when you're laughing your ass off. Oh, and we killed the morons that were shooting at the friendlies. :)

I like controlling the AC-130 myself in CoD 4 better. The Transformers sucked. A mediocre piece of shit "family" movie. Hollywood ruined the Transformers once again.

Damn that spooky is firing fast... I think the 105mm howitzer is manual loaded and can be fired like 7 times in a minute with a good crew, but still, way to go transformers! Nice clip.
