  • Wow, GLaDOS for 20$

  • I can suggest you upgrade to 6.22 - goo(dot)gl/wyjuF

  • remainds dose computers from fallout 3

  • "Bad command or file name" ... WTF HAPPENED TO MY COMMAND_COM?!

  • URL my ass! It's a filename, YouNoobs!

  • Oh god, this brought back so many memories... some horrible too lol

  • I'm 25 in 2012. I remember using dos-shell on my 486SX when I was 8 or 9. Seeing the C-prompt again made me cry... playing space quest and manhunter... : )

  • Hey kids -- it took me about one hour to download 1 megabyte on my 2400 baud modem. I started even slower with a 300 baud modem. It would have taken almost eight hours using that one.

It was a real treat when I got a 9600 baud modem.

  • 640k aught to be enough for anyone. -Bill Gates

  • @ErectopiaServer

Yep...and then came the PC/AT, which shipped with 1MB of memory and no way to use it, so Microsoft gave in and helped develop the EMS standard to allow DOS to use this extra 384K of memory.

  • you should play DOOM on it.

  • Sweet memories...

  • Fortunately there wasn't 4 GB of RAM to test at startup... otherwise you would turn on the PC one week before you need it xD

  • Watching this I think of a new discipline: computer archaeology.

  • So 8088 is compatible with x86 processor's instructions?

  • @TheMJG1 It is in the x86 family, yes, but only supports 16-bit instructions. It was the successor to the 8086.

  • @freshman409 Oh, thanks a lot. Just I don't know why Intel hasn't continuated x88 series but x86, so I thought it wasn't compatible. But thanks again. :)

  • @freshman409

Actually, the 8086 and 8088 are identical internally. The 8088 is actually the weaker of the two. It has an 8-bit data bus that makes the motherboard cheaper and easier to build., while the 8086 is fully 16-bit.

  • @Jerkwad152 Oops, my bad. You're right, I got the 2 confused.

  • @freshman409 I don't think one being the "successor" works in this case. The 8088 is weaker than the 8086 as freshman409 explained, but the 8086 was built first. The cost of manufacturing was just too high for the consumer to have a computer built around the 8086.

  • PC's used to have much better build quality. My first proper PC was a Tandy 1000 with 8086 Processor. In those days you had to understand how they worked in order to do anything spectacular. Program coding had to be tight due to memory limitations and to get things working at a decent rate. Not like today with bloated OS and applications leading to crashes and conflicts. They call this progress LOL

  • for all those that think old technology sucks, whats the use, notice something that was built in the 80's, still works even today, and yet brand new pc's die a year later do to bad cap's, cheap parts, and poor design. Long Live Old Tech!!!

  • 640K ought to be enough for anybody!!!

  • "Bad command or file name" How many times have I seen that? LOL! Nice video, brings back good memories!

  • i have a dos 1.0 computer and it still works!

  • Its funny how you can literally have a faster computer on your watch now

  • This video explains why nobody would want more than 640k of RAM ;)

  • @jimlap777

yes you are right suppose it has 256 Mb ram then testing memory will cost few days atleast

anyways its always nice to watch old tech running good after 2-3 dacades

  • deltree *.*

  • That thing's so slow it ain't even funny. Yes, I said ain't. Deal with it.

  • Imagine, our up to date PCs with windows 7, 40 gig hard drives are way cheaper than this when it was new in 1986

  • but can it run Battlefield 3?

  • fix your aotoexec.bat :))

  • great , I remember when I had to write a lot to play games....

  • brings me god memories.

  • Tose old PC:s last forever. I had one stored in my parent's attic, which wasn't heated, but was dusty and moist as anything. I tried it about 10 years after I left it ther. It worked well, with the exception of it's hard drive. I was surpriced that even the screen did caught fire when I turned the power on.

  • I came. :?

  • When did it become legal for the west to produce computeres and another high tech devices in China? As i recall it was illegal back in the 90es. Was it after that China got Hong Kong back?

  • Faster than windows vista.

  • That's faster than our school computers, and they're Core 2 Duo with 2GB ram... just because in school we've got installed loads of shit school programs....

  • Reminds me of portal :P

  • I Use MSDOS 5.0

  • How much RAM is in that machine? It sure takes a while to count all the RAM, I've not used a computer like this in quite some time.

  • @Lachlant1984 640 KB

  • It looks like you have an error in your autoexec.bat causing the "Bad command or file name" error at boot up.

  • How does this compare to the IMB 486? Used to think I was on the top of the world when I got a 486. WOW it was fast, lol

  • Comment removed

  • @Saturn2888 Your comment is so useless, little shit, you don't even know how much those old computer worth , they can go over 100$ so he did a nice deal

  • does it have a touch screen ?? <~ O__O

  • @MrSemoemo

You could get a light pen, but there wasn't much in the way of software which suppored it (read...VERY expensive).

  • LOL I had an 8088 years ago but it broke on me it had a magnavox 14 inch EGA display with dos 5.0. I think it was a late 80's model. but it was not name brand.

  • Dos Shell is for wimps :)

  • Yes, my eyes hurts from watching the video with my lcd screen.

  • Looks like a Tandy PC to me.

    ...Amiright?

  • great video :D

  • I remember these days

  • bad command or file name, looks like you have a problem in the autoexec.bat file. the good ol days....when my parents were too cheap to get me a computer with a VGA monitor/mouse.

  • I would very much so love to have one of these computers.

  • Wow, didn't know this video would be so controversial...

Yes, I'm that old school (read: old) that I learned to use computers in the days of DOS, and "online" meant connecting to a BBS.

I've made this computer a dedicated Zork machine.

  • Youtube comments. Go figure.

Cool that you got the system for so cheap. Any interesting cards/drives? What kind of hard drive does it have? Or are you running it entirely from floppies?

  • @freshman409 zork FTW xD

  • @freshman409 I remember my dad blowing his top when he'd pick up the phone in the kitchen and he'd be greeted by all the modem noise.. :) Still, he was happy I wasn't running around in the streets getting into trouble with the rest of the kids in the 'hood. Westside 602, before it switched to 623.. heck, before you had to dial any area code. :D

  • @freshman409 Even tho I'm a XP user with a C2Duo I appreciate the old times and technology a lot because back then people had skill and actually knew what they were doing. Today about 999 out of 1000 computer users are technical retards and most likely aren't even able to install an OS by themselves. Pressing the ON button, starting MS-Word, and launching the Browser is about all they can. You also see it with every new OS MS release too. They just get dumber and dumber and simpler.

  • @hardstyle905 I agree, you hit it right on the money man... people these days want to do every thing with a click, back in the day i DID NOT use a mouse at all and no color monitor and no internet and still spent hours programming in QB making dos programs and 80x25 games

  • @freshman409 keep your lights on bro, the grues are here

  • I once had an 80486. It ran windows 95.

  • i have an 80486. it runs windows 95.

  • ok heres a better way of putting this,

that old pc is worth alott now, and people have these to keep and love old tech stuff," not to brag" i have the first game boy 2 of em i anit sellin them, i have a ps1, hell i even have old watches...so whocaresnow2 is jelus that he does not have that old 8088, i like old stuff, old lamps, watches, etc....i Appreciate Old stuff it does not matter what if it is a computer games, watches lamps...ect,

well that it of ranting, im tired now woo!

  • Nice - wish I still had some of my old systems, I used to love my massive CGA laptop back in the 90s (and yes, it was old even then)!

  • I just spent $399 on a mint 8088 XT 1986PC and spent another $50 to upgrade the video card to an 8 bit AST EVGA 256KB.

It is hobby for some including myself.

Don't be an asshole just because YOU see no use,

Clearly you don't appreciate old technology.

  • Well then you spend $399.00 on a heavy boat anchor. Its a POS, and you obviously don't know how to spend your money wisely. Are you sure you're not running an investment bank? They're about as smart as you are.

  • hahahhaha yeah OK.....

I make the money, I spend it how I want. If you have a problem with that, I really don't give a shit..

  • @XmegaPresident why should we appreciate old technolgy? and about seeing no use... yeah i think the discrepancy in practicality between an intel 4040 and a q870 i7 is quite large.

  • @tomcatdcn Go ahead and buy a $3000 PC and trash it with Vista and all kinds of bullshit then, dumb fuck.

  • @hardstyle905 I wouldn't trash it with Vista. I would put fucking windows 7 you fucking idiot.

  • @tomcatdcn even worse.

  • @XmegaPresident Yo i appreciate old technology just try making a computer out of scratch its harder than most people think.

  • you obviously are one of those people who think as soon as the next big thing in tech comes out, the old thing that may work just fine is worthless. And then you throw it out. There are communities of people who collect vintage things who still find worth in them, unlike you who has to have the latest and greatest thing.

  • Uhh, to use it as a collectors item dipshit, he could sell this thing for ALOT more than he got it for.

  • This doesn't look like the IBM PC/XT 8088 that I remember, but I certainly do remember those amber monitors! I can't remember if the green-screen or amber ones supposedly gave people tunnel vision if they looked it all day...

  • That monitor is similar to the DataTrains Monitor be careful with those amber monochrome because I was using one for a few hours and then when I got up and I got really dizzy and couldnt see straight, i switched out the texted adapter to VGA card so i could use a color monitor it made a big difference, I find the green monochrome helps to reduce eyestrain. when using MS Word for long periods of time i switch the page to back and text to dark green its alot easier on the eyes then a white page.

  • I just love to see these old machines run, brings me a nostalgic feeling. Specially love that amber monitor.

  • the old pc´s are scared because they were all so slowly

  • cool a black-yellow screen :-)

  • and tired. Translated, not converted.

  • IBM model, right? What type? (last time I converted to German. I'm kind of bored.)

  • IBM-Modell, richtig? Welche Art?

  • There's a bad command or filename in the autoexecute.

    c:\>edit autoexec.bat

  • A very neat machine :D

A real killer (= Well my first PC was an 8086.

  • very slowly.

  • very nice vintage machine. at least it boots faster than vista.

  • beutiful
