Btw, about the apps menu, it would be really important to add native support for folders and subfolders.
And regarding making it like homescreens, since we will be able to go into as many levels as we want (with folders and subfolders), how about just apply toroidal topography and just scale it to whatever number of icons are there, if someone wants to make it all accessible with at most one swipe they would just have to get the X and Y count of icons right (and swipe from the corners/edges)
@XenGi00 no not really.... just have a picture that has speciffic things for each part of the grid. Like a picture of an animal or a very unique building or painting....
and you will always know where you are in the grid by looking at the background of the screen.... just an idea..
It'll be easy to navigate since you can change your background layout so you can recognize which homepage you're on. Or simply add like a little photo that has a number notification on it. Not every complex.
OBVIOUSLY this is fake ppl.. look at the blueTooth icon besides the battery icon.. sometimes its on and most of the times its off.. now if it was real th eicons in the clock tray would remain the same all the time
There is movie editing, not real. You can see it: look at the images - time and system tray moves with desktops. On real N900, time and tray remains in it's place.
That's a great concept, but I'm sure Nokia's Team Maemo thought considered this when working on the N900.
I think the only problem might be that some widgets on the N900 eat battery life because they're still a little buggy, so having 9 desktops full of possibly battery draining bug-programs could be a bit too much :D
The 5-homescreen 4 way was what I considered first (from the main (1) up (2) down (3) left (4) right (5). And you're right, that's probably the best middle ground in having more homescreens minus confusion
How I've shown 9 screen here is unfortunately confusing but it would work the same way. I could place all my games in screen 1, bookmarks screen 2, office things screen 3 etc. Any time I want games, I know to swipe to screen 1..
very nice, but im using th standard 4 desktops, and the battery drains real fast,, cant imagine how fast it'll empty up using 9!!!!

How far are we from getting this 8-way swipe, toroidal topology, 9 homescreens in the N900?

This vid has been made to illustrate a suggestion to the maemo developpers, not to fool anyone.
You just have to follow the link to figure out...
