  • what pedal are u using for the intro?

  • Beautiful Bass line

  • you are sooo..i like you

  • Aaaah man, I love music WOOoooo Wee

  • Redo this song, man! =D

  • That's an awesome cover bro!...I've seem some of yer othr vids. and you've got the sound perfect! Good ear.

Are you with a band? and if so d'you have any original material on the web? Like to hear it if so......

What kind of Bass amp d'you use? I've always been a huge fan of Justin's bass sound (Paul too back when...) He inspired me to write and play more bass stuff w/ pick.....lots of bassists consider pickers to be inferior for some reason but not true!! Pick On!!!!!!!

  • Not good enough. More work man!

  • @intioyarzun you do realize this video is like 3 years old. LOL. I can destroy this song but am bored with it and have not felt like doing a remake

  • @TOOLbassplayer i can destroy it too, with one hand behind my back, but i don't feel like proving it either.

  • @TOOLbassplayer why not? the video quality is kind of crappy on today's standards and I can use a good vicarious cover right now ^_^ besides I still think that this version is kind of better than Remiii's one, not that Remiii its bad or anything, this one just feels more correct.

  • @intioyarzun and your face needs more work so it can be SEEN without heart attacks

  • dude could you please post a how to video on this song!! it would be awesomee!! you are really good! thanks anyways

  • good job, i love how the bass in Tool uses D as a droning note, it makes it sound kind of middle eastern like a sitar or something

  • I know its silly, but even guitar hero world tour says 3:50 is bass ;')

  • This is the first tool song i ever tried to learn. My original tab was so wrong! thanks to you i have it near perfect man! Just curious though, were you planning on recording a direct-in of this?

  • I would say its time to re-up this in Hi-Def

  • Awesome Cover!!!!!!

  • Wow. I never realized some of those parts in the song were bass. It makes me appreciate Justin even more. You did an awesome job! I literally just started playing bass today. I can only dream of being this good.

  • SICK SICK SICK cover man!!! I have a buddy who happens to be a bass player, and is also....well......claims to be Tool's biggest fan. And even HE was blown away at the precision of your play along. Keep it up dude! TOOL fucking ROCKS and apparently so does this bass cover!!!!

  • How much did you pay for that Wal?

    3000 pounds?

  • Dude, gimme your bass. I'll give you a nickle. Seriously. Just gimme your paypal username and I'll send you the nickle. ;D

  • You should work on the main riff, getting it solid.

  • That was really good! You make me wish I played bass :)

  • That was really good. I enjoyed playing along.

  • f#ck gooooood work!

  • is the bassist in tool using a pick?

  • Yeah Justin Chancellor uses a pick usually on fast songs i saw them live this august front row

  • @tykjedasken yes he is =P

  • yes, justin said that for the song 10000 days he had to spend time learning to play with fingers b/c he plays pick, but 10k is fingers.

  • do you have to use a plec? 'cause i want to learn this song too, but i suck at using plectrums^^

  • however, in sober, its better to use a pick... haha i used a drumstick on my bass to play it. hahaha

  • hmmm do you slap it with the drum stick? in sober he is playing a chord

  • just keep practinicing with picks you will eventually become decent with it its not too hard

  • @TheDarkFragment You'll be missing the sharpness in the sound, but otherwise, no.

  • omg ppl. it's NOT a guitar. get a clue. this is the BASS. its tiring seeing the guitar get the recognition that the bass clearly deserves. especially in Tool since the bass is so vital to their music.

  • this is actually a pretty easy one compared to some of their others

  • I believe you missed some notes in the beginning, but this could be just your way of playing it.:) This song is awesome to play indeed, so well done.

  • Yeeah Man, very good =D

  • god damn. i'm envious.

  • cool, I've never heard that variation right after 2:44 before... thanks for that vid.

  • good job ,' )

  • Dude, you are freaking awesome

  • amazing, pro,

  • Haha! Tool obsessionate? Cool bro, best band EVER! I have all discography and a lot of covers played! =)

  • your very talented. not many bassists can play tool songs well because of the akward pauses, but obviously ur not one of em.

also, please play yyz with that geddy lee in the ackround. soo badass if u wud.

  • i think most people cant play the songs bc they dont have all the effects justin does like brad xD lol

but you are right as well.

  • Very nice.

Well, this confirms I was playing it right.

  • xD

Well, this proves I was NOT playing it right.

Freakin' Guitar Pro 5. Never trust.

  • Guitar Pro 5 is great, there is just a lot of fucking idiots that make terrible tabs that dont no what the hell there doing, i use guitar pro for myself, i dont go online to get tabs, i make my own tabs by ear for songs like schism, vicarious, parabola, and metallica songs just cuz they are on guitar hero and u can find a bass track of each song, and i use my ear to make a guitar pro tab, check my cover on my channel

  • THIS IS POWAAAA TAAABS!!!

  • JUST SUBSCRIBED.......TOOL is like jesus in the form of music (thnx Skot).....and u really do their songs justice

  • damn bro all your videos helps me a lot when i need a solid bass line on a tool song i just search you on youtube haha

  • HA! found your first mistake... or most obvious one in most of your videos. 4:15 you hit the E instead of D

    BAM

    jk i love you

  • He never said he was perfect.

  • damn man, nice

  • This is just amazing

  • fantastic

  • One of my favorite Tool songs to play on guitar, really good job with the bass line. Tool's music tends to be bass heavy, something I actually like. Since it allows the guitar to do so much and be a little more subtle and creative.

  • agreed. i mean me being a guitar player myself, i think this type of guitar playing shows more than shredding a million notes a minute.

  • I just wonder why is rating restricted - there is hardly anyone who would give you less than 5 stars. And, many ppl likes to rate something if they like it. Very good job there.

  • awesome work!really...

  • Yet another song that you have mastered. (sigh) I wish I was as good as you on bass, damn.

  • hahah wow it is the bass... such an original band. im learning this song now, i think its one of Tool's harder songs on the bass. Thanks for posting this vid, its been a huge help. keep it up.

  • is the part at 3:50 really bass?

  • unless the guitar is resting and theres 2 bass lines in this song, im prety sure thats a guitar riff. not 100% but with Tool anything is possible.

  • wrong wrong wrong. It is the bass. You can clearly hear the guitar doing the open D palm mutes in the background.

  • @TOOLbassplayer I also read that Justin used a 12-string bass for the intro for this song. Loving that Wal you have!

  • @Alexgreiss yeah that is most definitely bass. i've like. done research a bunch of times to make sure because people are always disagreeing

  • yes! Go watch a live version of Tool playing it and see for yourself. :)

  • @harrymanback4 It never occured to me that a bass was used for that part wow.

  • @harrymanback4

    No lol

  • @harrymanback4 No it's the guitrar O.o i think !

  • Once again, you are awesome at playing Tool.

  • esa si es una rola chingona¡¡

con que efecto es el comienso?

    saludos

    =P

  • u fucking rock

  • I play bass too, and Tool is my biggest influence. Who the fuck started the whole "emo" conversation. NEVER bring up emo around anything that has anything to do with TOOL. Emo is a bullshit, shitty, scene, punk rip-off. Don't try to categorize Tool, they're a whole different genre by themselves. it's called music, don't try to put the one thing that isn't in a box, into a box. That's the whole fucking purpose behind Tool....you tool. haha

  • I agree with what you say about Tool being nowhere near emo. But the scene which you seem to perceive as 'emo' is not emo. Do a bit of googling and reading. As for pigeonholing Tool, it can be done; I'd say Progressive Rock/Metal describes them pretty fucking well. Oh and, your puns were disgraceful.

  • really nice done GJ!!

  • ur so sick man

  • very rock...your basse is great

  • That was soooo nice! :D

  • 3:30

    sick ass tone...gah

I wish my bass did that...

    envy envy envy!!

  • are you gonna redo it?

  • Hey man, try getting some better recording stuff. I love your playing and your tone, it would be awesome to hear it brought out more! Take care!

  • Whats your regular full time job / employer?

  • got some wicked basses man rad by the way vicarious is hard :)

  • you're really twangy in the intro and the little mini solo thing before the breakdown. made my ears bleed a bit. try a new effect, less mids

and one other thing, you're adding an extra open D before you hammer to the high D (12th fret) that doesn't belong. you can keep it there if you want but it sounds groovier if you keep it out - just sayin'

otherwise great job, love that tone!

  • i love tool

  • Great playing! Love your tone.

  • How you get your tone the way you do is really cool.

Sounds spot on, great job. 6/5

  • This is some serious badass bass playing. Excellent cover of one of my favorite Tool songs. Keep it up. =)

  • Dude I am amazed at how much your effect's sound just like Chancellor's!!!!!You really did your home work!!!!!

  • you've just given me incentive to pick up my bass again

  • my bro has a very similar bass to yours

  • amazing cover, this may be a repetitive song but keeping your feet in a 5/4 time signature is not as easy as it looks. not a wrong note in the entire cover, amazing job

  • Hey man, this was a very very good cover this. but for everyone else this song isnt as hard as it is repeative... good thing is it will test your ability to switch between rythmes on the same notes over and over again.

  • im amazed man...

5 stars dude rockin that shit

  • dude now i want to learn this song on bass!

  • 5 stars.

  • fuckin unreal cover man, well done

  • My cousin told me to look you up

    I'm a good bassist myself

I play stuff like Avenged Sevenfold, Trivium, etc

  • so... you're an emo?

  • I lol'd lizzzi

  • LMFAO!!!!

  • wuts the point of giving this guy a negative comment?

  • wtf? Avenged isnt Emo its core you junkie!

  • LizzziMerjanen: At least... better than hip-hop...

  • no

hawthorne heights and my chemical romance are emo

  • no they are pop-punk, but whatever. noone cares and it doesn't matter, they suck anyway.

  • I always think of 'emo' as emotional music, Tool has a degree of emotion wouldn't you agree?

But they in no way associate themselves with the Emo culture which we have had the misfortune to experience. I wouldn't call my chemical romance emotional, their attempts to imitate such emotions are see through, they are about the money. So in a way tool are more emotional then MCR could ever be.

The term Emo isn't a genre, more a disgusting culture which has been tagged with an inappropriate title.

  • well the way i put it, tool is soul metal heartfelt shit that not necesarily comes out all the time but when it does it fuckin rocks

  • Very true, in this world those terms are thrown around loosely. People call those bands Emo when in reality their just bad rock and pop. Real emotional music is true and heartfelt, not made up crap about hating your parents and the world around you.

  • who sucks?

  • thats easy shit bro

  • easier said than done, bro

  • this is freaking awsome man! love it. what picks do you use?

  • Love it!!!!!!!!

  • love the tone/grunge during the verse

  • thats pretty damn close to the real thing

  • Niiice cover!!

  • Man, this is great. Good ears :-)

  • You have achieved in making my favorite Tool song even better. Good Job \,,/

  • same here

  • so wat are ur amp and bass eq settings for this song

  • dude, u make it look easy. freakin awesome man. i just watched ure jambi vid too. Tool is THE BEST band. Period.

  • I want a Wal bass. nice job 5/5

  • doesn't a whammy for guitar work in a bass?

cuz i've got a whammy for guitar. If it works, what effect should I use?

  • Ha... pure Boston talent

  • That last 3 seconds was wicked man haha :D

  • what bass is that you are playing with?

  • a wal

  • Excellent!! thanx!!... can u tell me which pedal or whammy would you recommend to get the closest main riff sound?? (0:47)??

    -peace-

  • a bass whammy is the one Justin uses, but you are gonna have to reach in your wallet for one, big time.

  • @cornerstone

The guy who makes them by hand has become seriously ill and if he does unfortunately pass away; he never taught his skill to any descendents so it will be lost forever.

  • Some will figure it hopefully one day

  • why are the wal basses out of production? they where so cool

  • because they were done by one person, and he is getting old and is finding someone to take over.

  • If you're talking about Wal basses, he found a guy. I don't know when he's going to start making them again though.(maybe next year?) All I saw was that he found a new guy.

  • time to save up pennies

    *sigh*

  • Pennies huh? Hope you have a shit load of them.

  • can you give me more information on this?

  • I'm looking for info myself. I couldn't tell you who, when, or where. I was just browsing around and I came upon this forum. It seemed pretty reliable. Ask around. That's exactly what I'm doing.

  • why are the wal basses out of production? they where so cool

  • That

    Is

    AWESOME !!

  • im still workin on the timing in this damn song lol i get thrown off here and there and it sucks

  • It's amazing how many musicians Tool has inspired. I saw them twice last year and ever since have a renewed interest in playing drums.

I've watched alot of you vids, and believe it or not hearing the bass isolated like this helps me get down the timing of alot of their songs.

Keep up the good work. And never stop playing!

  • Kiss ass.

  • what setup do you have that was rape

  • Wal bass - out of production, cost a fuckload and it is Justin Chancellor's main bass

  • when do you start with playing bass?

  • bout 5 years ago

  • how much did u drop on your whammy pedal? Im lookin around online and the digitech is pretty expensive. Do you know of any affordable whammy pedals that are still pretty good? Sick playing btw

  • i dropped like 300 5 years ago. They are way overpriced now

  • I grabbed on off of e-Bay about 4-5 months ago for about $300, it was just missing the power supply, but I already had the Whammy 4, so I use that one's...granted it was a Buy It Now, but if you watch e-Bay like a hawk you will find a good deal...also hit up Creg's List...most people on it don't know what they have...or they just want to get rid of it.

  • you, my friend, are the sh!t

  • very great job!!

  • Great job on this one, man. Seeing the bass work in this song isolated shows off how perfectly Justin really stepped even more fully into his own badass style of doing things on this album.

Your tone is the shit, by the way.

  • what do u think is the closest effect that sounds like the whammy because i dont have the money to pay 200 + dollars for one

  • How do you control that bass? Wal's really seem to have this vengeful-wanting-to-fuck-you-up feeling to them.

  • i think its fuzz

    i remember thatlive

  • What pedal do you turn at 3.50

  • Distortion haha. Or something close to it

  • What pedal do you activate or turn off at 47 seconds? Great playing!

  • whammy

  • Great job. I noticed you have posted this one a few different times. Do you think this is the most difficult Tool song to play accuratly?? If not which one?

  • Great job keep these videos coming

  • you can allways tell when your about to do something sick cause you look like your concentrating really hard to get the effects and the timing right. great job , best i've seen!

  • At 3:50... THAT'S THE BASS? Or you played it anyway? O_o

  • that is the bass on the actual song...

  • If you watch live performances of this song, people usually zoom up on Adam, but he's not the one soloing the first time it's played; he plays the same riff again, then starts playing this riff an octave lower...

But nice playing that part...I'd imagine it's difficult tremeloing with a bass lol

  • adam never playts this riff. I watched him from 5th row. He only continues the open D's

  • the whole time?

    wow, didn't know that lol

    thanksss.

by the way, you and SCOverstreet should do some compilations...

  • thats the bass

  • Yeah, that question was answered almost a year ago. Literally. lol

  • nice man... the outra pwns, its so much harder on bass then guitar!!! great job

  • thx

  • Yeah great outro... but uhh, it's pretty much the same on the guitar, very tough and fast.

  • very nice work mate

how much did that wal set u back?

i just forke dout 1400 pounds for a thunderbird but i wanna wal now too - hahaha

but there not only more expensive but almost impossible to get as well

i heard theres like a 4 year waiting list for them right?

anyhow i loved your playing of rosetta stoned especially the middle eight - nice work

  • hey wut kind of amp r u using

  • Check his profile and you´ll see. Or you´ll shit bricks lol

  • dude i know you probably get asked this alot but where did you get a wal? and what are your thoughts o
