  • Simply Wonderful

  • MUITO BOM JOSHUA !!!!!!

  • Comment removed

  • amazing!

  • Brilliant!*****

  • Where is the maestro ? Who wrote the Cadenzas ? Joachim surely not.

Wonderful perform, among the best i've already seen. Joshua, brilliant !

    Bravo !!!

  • It's too bad that some 'critics' can't critique without showing their immaturity. There never was a piece of music played the same way by a performer. If so, they would be uninspiring copycats. It is the subtle differences which sets artists apart. As for cadenzas, they are played in the 'style of', but given free rein to composition and interpretation unless otherwise instructed by the composer, which does sometimes happen. In that case, the composer usually writes the cadenza.

  • Sounded pretty good to me.

  • he bought violin for 4 milion

  • Joshua Bell is fantastic..............I love the way he plays this. and conducting the orchestra..............so wonderful to listen to and watch

  • @stickitupyapipe , a very big one.

  • @KellyFotini

"I do not understand why someone get so happy to become a Sound Factory Monkey." Classic. You summed him up quite nicely there. LOL.

  • ahhh I love this movement!! It's so happy and light :) it reminds me of a little bunny bouncing around on a beautiful spring morning :) hahaa

  • @rhinolovingpianist77

This might have been listenable without the vidio. God damn, its irritating to see this fella dancing about with that pained expression on his ugly kisser.

  • @stickitupyapipe thanks for the foul language :P besides, he's interpreting the music through his body from his soul. He is a true musician!

  • @rhinolovingpianist77

Foul language? What foul language would that be then? I suggest you get out a bit more.

Regarding Bell, he´s supposed to play his violin, not his body, and he´s supposed to play what Beethoven wrote, not his "interpretation" of what he thinks Beethoven should have written.

Bell is a typical hollywood style showboy. He isn´t totally without talent, but he should concentrate more on the music and less on the show, if he wants to be taken seriously that is.

  • @stickitupyapipe Ohh you know what you said.

He is not a "typical Hollywood style showboy". Anyone can try to be one. If he was so concerned about the "show", he most likely would be wearing sequins and shiny, expensive clothing.

His interpretation IS what Beethoven wrote... and if you knew a true musician, you'd realize that everyone moves with the music. I do when I play the piano or my viola, and it's not for the "show" of it. If you really feel something, you show it through your body.

  • @rhinolovingpianist77 Is that you Mrs Bell? LOL.

  • @stickitupyapipe "He's supposed to play his violin, not his body" ? You're obviously not a musician. Just listen, enjoy it and shut up.

  • @stickitupyapipe Go suck a black dick

  • @stickitupyapipe

Just to clear the air, Beethoven wrote in "Cadenza," which is an indication that the soloist improvise or provide his own interpretation, at 6:37 on the sheet music. That's why if you listen to a multitude of violinists play the section, it's always different. So technically Beethoven didn't write the specific notes that Bell played, but he meant for the player to involve his own interpretation.

  • @lavaisreallyhot Thank you for explaining, to those who didn´t know, what a cadenza is. When I spoke of his, "interpretation", I wasn´t referring to the carenza, but rather the entire piece. Listen to the Zimmermann/Stein rendition of the concerto, and you will see what I mean.

As an aside, Bell´s cadenza sounds like a jewish barmitzvah, which he´s entitled to I guess, but it´s not, and never will be, Beethoven.

  • @stickitupyapipe Well, you're obviously the music expert. Please tell us, what does expressionism mean to you?

  • i wanna know that what is the name of this piece?

  • @eronmomo Beethoven Violin Concerto in D, 3. Rondo

  • labor intense

  • No part 6 for this :(

  • I would prefer perlman's interpretation lol,

    /watch?v=JdYGmPH9fcs

  • @gtyz Perlman is as good a violinist as Bell is. But I very much like the amazing job of the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra. They're extremely precise and never too loud. It gives the soloist so much leeway for his divine interpretation.

  • This is marvelous to hear! I've been spellbound through the entire piece1 Thank you for posting it:)

  • Beautiful music !!

Joshua Bell is a good musician , i love him very much !!!

  • What I love about Joshua Bell -- the idea that it doesn't matter whether or not you're watching him or just listening you get that sense that he feels the music he plays and in turn you end up feeling that. I love his dynamic and I envy his ability in this piece. I've played this a couple of times and can say that I am NO WHERE near his greatness. Props. to Mr. Bell. I loved watching him with the LA Phil a year ago. He was great.

  • I like hte ensemble -- they listen to each otehr wonderfully. His tone is glorious, but hte musicianshp all round is the most wonderufl thing of all....

FIne with me that he plays with his eyes shut. He hears the music....

  • One of the greatest masterpieces of all time played by a master musician.

  • The entire piece is beautiful. My favorite part, however, is from 3:03 to 3:40.

  • Artur Balsam, 1952: Piano (Violin) Concerto in D major, Op. 61 - Rondo

    watch?v=MD8ul2yxh-M

    thanks and regards

  • gd skill and technique, but the sound of the orchestra covered his wonderful sound

  • Good, maybe even almost great, but comparing him to Oistrakh, Milstein, or Heifetz is a bad joke.

  • @gerryrains Why? Each violinist has their own style. I personally prefer Oistrakh to Heifetz - I don't know why. However, I will never ever say that Oistrakh is better. Bell is certainly in the top drawer.

  • @gerryrains God forbid anyone could play as well or better than your old celebrities you were brainwashed to believe were the greatest musicians who will never be surpassed. You can't think outside your brainwashed box of a brain. Bell and Hahn are just as great, if not greater than the ones you mentioned. Get with it. And stop spewing your opinions.

  • un évènement violonistique !

  • I LOVE HIM!!!!

    HE´S AMAZING

    =)

"Acclaimed for his mastery of the classical repertoire, violinist Joshua Bell has also inspired the development of new music that redefines the possibilities for his instrument and his artistry. Whether he is unleashing breathtaking virtuosity in the music of Sarasate and Paganini, or letting his Stradivarius simply sing the glorious Broadway melodies of Gershwin and Bernstein, Bell has become the iconic violinist of his generation"

    I agree...

  • Can anybody tell where I can purchase/download this particular track, also what is the name of the track, lable, etc., LOVE IT!

I want to mention, I was looking for music form the Angels & Demons movie and I learned that Hans Zimmer used Joshua Bell for several tracks from the movie, before that, Im sorry, I did not know who Joshua Bell was -- I live in Mexico, had not heard from him before.

  • Yamfuki: Thanks a million for this wonderful live video ! My sons and I watch it almost every day since they are also taking violin and piano lessons. This should be a great inspiration and motivation for every child who wants to be a future violinist....Bravo, Joshua !

  • It is a little orchestra but still a truly huge one . I shivered at the sound of each instrument, not only the violin. What I am saying here is that the sound in this video is historical ; for the Music , for the World , for the Future. Merci et bravo à M,yamazafuki !

  • Hear Hannah Tarley perform the Beethoven Concerto!

  • the playing is great. the body movements and facial expressions are annoying and scare me.

  • @QwertyAzerty2009

Música não foi feita para ser vista, mas para ser ouvida.

To me: music was not made to be watched, but to be heard.

  • @QwertyAzerty2009

Bahahah! All these violinists make retarded faces.

  • awesome! especially with no conductor conducting the whole thing..

  • Obrigado Yamafuki pela postagem deste maravilhoso concerto do genial Beethoven.

  • My son Nathan also wants to be the worlds best violinist when he grows up and I have no doubt about it either!!!!!!

  • @momkestner i wish your son Nathan all the best in his future career as the world's best violinist..god bless :)

  • Can't wait for 30th March Royal Festival Hall!! With MUTI

  • musica sublime, interpretazione meravigliosa,

    Joshua Bell straordinario e incantevole.

    Grazie, Grazie mille volte !

  • estoy viendo el atardecer, con este bella música de fondo......................

    qué más puedo pedir

GRACIAS DIOS por la música, por Joshua, por este concierto, por la vida jajaaa!!!

  • i wonder what point in my music career i will be allowed to play over all fully trained musicians.... cough*never*cough lol

  • I can't find any words to describe how awesome Joshua is, Beethoven would've been surprised about how incredible he is, simply the greatest violinist ever.

  • Definitely, Joshua isn't the greatest violinist. He's too expressive, which looks weird ; For the same reason, Vengerov also is not a professional violinist.

  • @cleansky10

mm, but.. ag! you can tell he's so into it! Who cares if it looks mildly like he's having a seizure? The guy's got FEELING

  • @cleansky10 Since when is being expressive and feeling the music a flaw?? Must we all be stone faced and serious? This is the attitude turns people away from the snobbier side of classical music. Have some fun already!!

  • That cadenza was Badass!!!! I'm going to steal it and use it!!!!

  • Inherently musical and not a single note played without intent and meaning.

Joshua Bell is one of the very few solo artists I would pay money to see.

  • Is that a Strad?

  • Yes Classicalguy12, that fiddle should be the Stradivari 1713 " Gibson"

    Cheers!

  • the end is the best...and the kandenza is sooo good....i play it too but not soooo goog like he plas it

  • Bell's ending is perfect. I agree with you.

  • You don't HAVE to listen, you know.

  • I know :)

  • Where can I get a copy of this recording?

  • you can get a copy of this recording on the cd "The Essential Joshua Bell," it's track number 12

  • Thepiratebay . com

  • This is my favourite version of Beethoven Violin Concerto. I also liked Mutter's version, but I like his version more.

  • Je ne parle pas anglais mais pour moi aussi,Perlman mis à part,c'est ma version préférée sur Youtube

  • That was something, both the music and Joshua. Wow the second half is capturing. So very dynamic and such an exellent player.

  • I Love the grand final from the 3rd mouvment...:)

  • i just listened to all 5 parts, spellbound. The audience was so quiet, it was noteworthy.. I know that I had my heart in my throat. Thank you, very much.

  • Why does he think he can play without a Conductor?

  • Sometimes a new word just pops into my head: you're an Idiocrat.

  • I guess it's because he's a beast like that.

  • its a chamber orchestra

  • @tupa670 He IS the conductor. The orchestra gets their timing by watching his bow strokes. Chamber Orchestras and Salon Orchestras have been doing this for centuries.

  • Oh man, at 5:35, the call and response of Bell and the orchestra was fantastic! What an amazing performance!

  • Just listen to that stradevarius purr

  • he is soooooooooo good, but he moves tooo much.

  • TOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO much..

  • This is the best version of Beethoven's violin concerto on youtube. Hands down!

  • So a video on youtube was claiming to have the best violinst, a random guy who played with Yanni. I was like, yeah right... : )

Joshua Bell is definitely in the top 4.

  • those trumpets were jammin!

  • 3:25 : Best musical thing I've ever heard.

  • @TylerDurden89 I was thinking the same! The other movements are filled with gems as well though.

  • @TylerDurden89

You obviously don´t listen to much music then?

  • @stickitupyapipe Yep I do man, it's not as good as this part, but it sounds good aswell ;)

  • I'm speechless. I've heard this video (all the 5 parts) at least 10 times and each time it gives me the same joy and perfect relaxation. Yes, I've only heard. I don't watch it-I don't like his movements eighter. But who cares. There is one and only thing that counts: MUSIC. And this is MUSIC!

  • See Kyung Wha Chung's and you will know whats really deserves to call 'masterpiece'.

  • "He enjoys the attention, hence no conductor"

No. There is no conductor because that is the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra.

  • @sirdouglas Agreed. Many Chamber Orchestras and Salon Orchestras are led by the first violinist or, as in this case, by a soloist. This practice has a long history. For instance, F. Joseph Haydn, Josef Lanner and the Strauss brothers (and father) all led their orchestras with violin in hand.

  • Bell is quite the showman. He enjoys the attention, hence no conductor. He also wrote his own cadenzas for this concerto (available on CD, which I own). This group has rehearsed for the exact sound Bell required long before this performance. I've heard other versions... Mutter, Perlman, Heifitz. Bell holds his own.

  • near the end he changed the solo, right? around 6:40

  • dats a cadenza..maybe ur used to the Kriesler Cadenza..cz dts wt everyone plays...the soloist can improvise his/her cadenza....

  • isn't his right shoulder unusually high?

  • its usually up to the musician how high his/her shoulder rest should be so what ever is comfortable for him.

  • 7:02 ... so sick.

  • people think hes very good at interpreting but bad technically. i disagree

  • Fablous! I have seen hi in person and he is even better. You are wonderful!

  • Wonderful, but I don't see any conductor... is that possible to be coordinated without him? Ok they are pro but still...

  • Quite possible. In a professional orchestra, by the time the concert rolls around, the conductor is mostly eye candy for the audience. The real importance comes before the concert.

  • He moves! Physically and Emotionally.

  • This is beautiful! Go Josh!

  • Excellent. What is the exact name of this composition?

  • Beethoven - Violin Concerto in D major, Op.61

  • I am in heaven listening to Josuah Bell... wonderful!

  • well,i fhink that,is only one guy who can do it music whith her soul.

  • it's kinda funny, i lsiten to punk rock and stuff and there are kids calling each otehr posuers on those videos, and you guys are arguing about who's violin is best. i guess no matter where you go there are people who don't appreciate the music and would rather just argue about stuff.

i thougth it was good, i know i can't play that well.

  • It is kind of funny, isn't it? No matter what medium people go up in arms about their opinions. Even if it is the "elite classical music". I mean just look at how Rieu is treated in the classical, violinist community.

  • just everyone STFU,

if you don't like his version then why should you be watching this video.

everyone has different opinions and different favorites. and i think joshua bell did a magnificent job.

  • Joshua Bell's violin is a very good one for sure. Also this concerto, especially this movement, may well be the greatest one ever written. I guess some of you guys might say its the Mendelssohn concerto. It's good too, but No.

  • I cant afford violinists who move so much and do grimaches mostly when trying to hide their poor musicality...

come on listen some Perlman and other great virtuosos...

from Bell's generation Hilary Hahn is far ahead..there are brilliant performers out there..

  • hes not out of tune. his interpretation its the best. even perlman and verngerov cant play it like him. his interpretation its much better. perlman and vengerov are good but in this concerto joshua bell plays it much better than them. see how difficult its to play that concerto. its not as easy as we see... Really nice concerto!!

  • he may be alright in beethoven. but thats not the hardest, hardest piece. try something like elgar violin concerto in b minor. the day bell plays that which i doubt that will ever happen since its beyond his head kindoff thats when ppl. will start to see him like a genuine player like kennedy, vengerov, gitlis, perlman, repin

  • I don't agree about Vengerov's greatness and less about Kennedy's.Two wasted talents, IMHO

  • Nice interpretation, nice sound, his bow job its perfect!!

  • i like how he communicates with the bassoonist when they exchange the theme

  • Anyone who can tell me who's written the cadenza??

love listening to this! Joshua Bell is AMAZING!!!!!

  • In my opinion, he has the best sound out there today, clear, precise, and above all a smooth tone. This is all exhibited in this performance. Yet I don't like the way he moves, but, he is the artist, and whatever works for him is fine by me.

  • I agree. I really like the way he plays this beethoven violin concerto and it makes me wonder how it would sound if he would stand properly using the right muscles for the right movements. Just watching him makes my back ache.

  • I agree with the comment about the excessive moving about.

I think it reveals a lack of discipline, this may sound like sour grapes but isn't meant that way.

I saw a clip of some young people watching Heifetz the other day [artists and musicians themselves] and they said, "he just stands there and plays", Good, that's what we want, the musician should remove his-self from the performance and let the music come through.

  • I totally agree with you.

  • sometimes musicans are "removed" from the music that they arent aware of anything that they are doing.

  • so lively! both music and all performers! lots of energy!

  • Believe me, I`ve heard lots of Beethoven concerto interpretations, but this one was far the best (even if I prefer the Kreisler cadenza). I have no words! Joshua, you`re a genius!

  • amazing as always

  • Orpheus is amazing...sounds better than a full orchestra...

  • Wow.

  • This is typical of Joshua Bell: precise, eloquent, coherent, communicative, and poetic. I suspect the Russion style bowing has been modified in this situation to suit the elegancy of the piece. I have to ask myself: is he relaxed? The sound effects say: Yes.

  • This piece is wonderful --- light, happy music. I saw Joshua at the Bob Carr Theatre in Orlando, FL on 3/22 and he was wonderful, but I was very disappointed that he did not perform at all for more than half of the entire show. Our local philharmonic is great but I think every one wanted to see more of Joshua. He played one longer and 2 very brief pieces.

  • the reason instrumentalist wear black is because we dont want ppl to pay attention to us we want the attention on the instrument our hands and our head because those three parts of us are expressing the most and sound is only a small majority of performing emotion and movement is the largest part

  • Thanks for the clips! I'll enjoy it.

  • Joshua is a stupendous young violinist and the orchestra ia amazing too.

  • muy bueno

  • Excellent.

  • i saw joshua bell at the Kennedy center 2 days ago!! it was amazing!!!!

  • The Orchestra fits Josh perfectly.

His movement his technique and his intonation is right on the spot. The one thing i am sad about is his outfit. If you look on all the Joshua Bell Videos he's like wearing the same thing. It just does not fit the Beethovan feeling or even any classical music.

  • What does it matter what he's wearing? Pay attention to the music ^_^. I don't want to see him in a ball gown or anything when he's playing Baroque music >.> or those wigs >.>

  • ok, i have always stayed sort of clear of joshua bell because i understand alot of people don't care for him. why? he sounds quite good hear.

  • Bell's amazing, yes-but does anyone pay attention to the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra? (Isn't that who this is?) They are one of the few orchestra's that plays with groove. Love them too.

  • How can someone remember all of that, then play it like that without a mistake ?

  • Lol, you probably aren't a musician then. Practice

  • we call it practice

  • we call it practice

  • he's amazinggg

  • check out the new Joshua Bell documentary (video) which I uploaded to stage6 -

    tinyurl(dot)com(slash)youge6

  • i totally LOVE this dude! He's AMAZING!

  • Joshua plays a Gibsonex Huberman Stradivarius made in 1713. I just him play last night at Carnegie Hall. Great technique.

  • my teacher has played on a few strads before and she told me that the instrument plays itself.. iono what she meant by that but she said it was awesome.. and that its useless without a bow thats worth atleast $10k

  • c faaaaabuleuuuuuuuuuuuuuu

  • u no his violin was worth around 4million$!its apparently a very old yet extravigant violin made around the year 1760 by a very talented violin maker!

  • It's called a Stradivarius and He peaked at 1715....it's called his "golden era". and Joshua's bow's Tourte which costs about $100000

  • a Stradivarius who cost almost 9 millions $. The stradivarius is one of the most violin in the world and the talent of the player (here, Bell) give this sound so amazing. The violin doesn't play alone...

  • This is awesome. He has awesome bow skills. Very Expressive.

  • show

  • the orchestra is very feeling the time of the music and is very togather with Bell's playing. Bell is very dynamic on this piece and is an elite of this piece

  • Does anyone know if I can buy this piece? Is it on a CD? Joshua Bell plays Beethoven (5/5)

  • he has a cd with beethoven and mendelssohn concertos on it.

  • teh midsection its great!, by then you must be in tears and think why should go on,

mr bell is a time traveller, he sometimes touches earth.

  • the tone of some of the orchestral violins in this piece (not Bell's) is very metallic. It tends to spoil the mid segment of this piece a bit.
