whats the difference in ............ 2 stroke engine and what are the other types of engine..?

@Gangstamale15, basically there are 2 stroke and 4 stroke type kart motors. In simple terms, a 2 stroke is like a chainsaw motor and a 4 stroke is like a lawnmower engine. A 2 stroke has higher power to weight, requires mixing oil with fuel. Karts have been very light high powered vehicles, kart racing started with only 2 stroke engine classes, but when McCulloch pulled out of kart motors in the late 70's, low cost 4 stroke 5hp Briggs & Straton engines became popular in US kart racing.

@foxkart61 yes it became very popular. but it was even more pricey to build a briggs 5hp. in simple terms it cost about 100$ a hp. and you could easily get 40-50hp out of a briggs 5hp.

@gokartmaster123 - the jr Drag Briggs motors, really are not Briggs motors, they are after market made parts with huge displacement at almost 3 times a 5hp Briggs... and they cost $5000 and can be run for short bursts down a drag strip, putting out up to 50hp (or 1.5 hp per cubic inch). Even the cheapest 2 stroke kart engines today, put out 2 to 3hp per cubic inch, stock out of the box (a KT100 for instance) for a fraction of the price .. they just don't go THUMP THUMP when they run.

@foxkart61 your talkin about the block zilla.. ive seen people turbo a block zilla and get about 70-80hp easily. but you also get rebuilt every 20hrs if that.. and 2 strokes are more efficient

These are 35 year old racing karts, but hit top speeds faster than modern 125cc TAGs, and similar to 125cc shifters. The engines run 35yrs ago were fan-air cooled industrial type engines, highly modified. Many after market suppliers made reed manifolds for dual carbs that could mount on the side and bottom of the block, in the 60's it was not unusual to see 3 or 4 methanol carbs on a single engine, a tuning nightmare with dual engines!!!

and those dual carbs sound amazing! those karts look way nicer than some modern day karts to me :)
