  • Your video went viral on Romania

  • Fuck Transformers!!!! THIS is the shit!!!!

  • This video is a favorite on Togo

  • Only Christopher Nolan is awesome enough to actually flip a semi in his movie.

  • this happens everyday in DC

  • cool but transformers 3 filming is cooler to watch

  • thats soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cool

  • where is this ?? vancouver...?

  • @seahawksphan chicago

  • real traffic less than a block away from the shooting?

    wow

  • Dude, how far were you from the actual semi?? Did they close a lot of streets??

    Thanks for posting.

  • another way to tell this isn't the flip they used in the film, is because the SUV with the camera on it, is moving right along with the semi.....in the movie, the camera is being drivin TOWARDS the semi. This was a just a practice flip

  • Pop the Blu-ray in again. When the semi flips, it is first shown from a 45ish degree angle from the front driver's side, with the camera moving with the semi. That's the vehicle you see on the right with the IMAX rig on it. That shot lasts for 1.5 - 2 seconds, just long enough so that the viewer can get a sense of the semi's sudden stopping and launching. Then it switches to the camera you're referring to, which I'll explain in another comment (running out of space).

  • The second, longer shot, where the camera rolls towards the flipping semi, is filmed by the black IMAX rig you see in the middle of the screen, partially obscured by the police car (which appears to be one of the GPD cars). That car moves in front of it before it starts rolling towards the semi, so you don't even really notice it's there unless you're looking for it. You'll notice all those crew members crowd around the IMAX rig's location after the flip.

Trust me, they only did one take. :P

  • Actually, I've just watched the bonus feature about it, and I was a little off. That IMAX rig in the middle is a stationary one, and its footage was not used in the film. The camera that filmed the second shot is actually a VistaVision camera mounted on the front of the police car. I've added a link in the description and on the video, to the entire bonus feature detailing the off-site testing and the filming of this shot.

  • @dhide14 Yeah you're right because that had me kind of confused and plus that street look way to crowded to be the scene they kept in the film.

  • @William82oct The video kinda screws with your head a little since it was taken at such a high zoom. The people and other cars are actually pretty far away from the semi when it flips. Everything just looks like it's the same distance away because of the high zoom. That's also why it looks like the semi is barely moving forward. Rest assured, they only flipped it down LaSalle once. They did do a test flip elsewhere. Click the link that shows up after the flip to see the whole process.

  • How did the get a big ass tractor trailer up like that?

  • A large piston mounted beneath the trailer slammed into the ground, launching the back of the rig into the air. There are gear-like plates on the front of the tractor to ensure it rolls properly (if you watch the Blu-ray, the gears have been edited out digitally, making it look like the front end is floating a couple feet off the ground while it rolls :P). The video description contains links to photos of the semi, with the gears and piston. Keeping the rig together was a whole other issue.

  • @danieldeibler no it was Batman!!

  • a-ahhhh, I wish I was there. ;__;

  • I was driving that :D

  • i wish i lived in chicago! lol

  • just so you know....this isn't the take they used in the film...this is just a rehearsal. The take they used in the film was on a bare street with no other cars....this was just a practice run

  • Okay but the fuckin tractor trailer looks unusable again...

  • um, they spent hundreds of millions of dollars to make this film...I'm pretty sure they had more than one semi to flip

  • That was fucking amazing! You caught a once in a lifetime video thanks for sharing it.

  • OMG that scene gave me goosebumps when i first saw it,it's the coolest! aaah those stunt ppl were lucky to see it in live action!! i envy them ¬¬ lol, thanks!

  • its pretty cool to see this through the camera's perspective. those people their are lucky to have seen this being filmed.

  • lol, I was just watching this part a few min. ago, how convienient :)

  • it looks alot darker in the movie

  • best stunt ever!!!!

  • it's cool watching this from the camera's perspective from the crowd because at 0:21 you just see like 2 or three people in the shot...then when the semi flips you see more people come in the shot like they didn't know if it was real or not, lol.

  • OMFG!that was sicknasty

  • Dude that was fucking awesome lol, loved this movie!

  • i have the dvd aswell i dont know why they kept the smoke in the film

  • because the smoke came from the object push the truck up, it would be to obvious

  • tht would be funny if u were just driving & all of the sudden a truck flew up in the air.

  • I've got the DVD, you can see how they made the stunt, something shooting from the center of the back of the truck, you can see the smoke from the shooting out thing in the movie, I don't know why they cept that, ruins?

  • didnt ruin it,i still dont understand that either,i thought they could hav digitally took it away

  • i think they kept it cause that might be the damage which happened when batman shot this thing out of his mob ..

    sry for my english :)

  • oh,the one and only thing i STILL dont understand about the movie,is how exactly DID Batman flip the semi??that part kinda confuses me a bit

  • he attached these wires do the front of the truck and went underneath it. then he attached the other ends of the wires to the street. the truck was moving fast enough for it to flip over.

  • oh!thats kinda wat i figured,but wasnt sure,thanks you!lol

  • I agree with LSrage0707 with the part where it slows down during the crash. AMAZING!!

  • That scene was amazing. Couldn't wait to get DVD when it comes out on Tuesday.:) Thank you for the video clip.

  • everyone in the theater didn't believe this shot was real, one thing to know about chris nolan, he does whatever he can to not use special effects

  • holy cow that looked more real than a stunt! I wonder how they were able to get that whole thing to flip. That thing must weight a ton at least! Anyway, great clip!

  • "HIT ME !!!!!"

  • just curious, were you filming this?

  • No. If you're curious, source information should be in the description.

  • its wicked in the movie because when it flips it like slows down in mid air so it looks wicked

  • i wass there¬!

  • Don't get much better than that..

  • oh my god then it is real !!

    thanks for posting

  • Thank you so much for filming this!!

Oh gosh, I wish I could have been there to see it flip in person.

When I saw that truck flip on the IMAX screen it about scared me to death because it looked so clear and huge it seemed it was about to pop right out of the screen

    Thank you once again!

  • I am happy =)

  • holy crap you guys het to see them do all this!?! I thought you would have been waaaaaaaaaay back, but you guys actually saw this!! I'm moving to chicago for the next fckn batman shoot man, you guys are lucky!

  • Good luck

  • I would have been so excited to be there you would assume i'm on speed or a half bottle of caffeine pills. Great video!

  • Nice video!

  • The way it happened in the film is impossible.

  • Oh, yeah, of course. You should see what they did to that semi to make it work. Aside from the things listed in the video description, it also had massive steel plates that ran from the front of the tractor all the way back to the trailer to keep it together as it rolled/flipped.

  • It's too bad that this is completely impossible.

  • @KangarooBeStoned

That's funny. I was under the impression that you couldn't do things that were completely impossible, and yet...↑

  • They had to use tools to do it. It could not be done without the devices they used. The fucking bumper would have ripped off.

  • Is it fun being a bunch of angry know-it-all nerds that can't just enjoy a great movie?

Everyone knows this scene isn't realistic, you twats. We don't need your genius insights.

  • He said as he watched the video of it happening.

  • holy shit they really did that?!

  • wutwutwut chikn butt

  • Damn, I can't wait to be a filmmaker. The atmosphere is so exciting. Thanks for this!

  • me tooo!

  • people didnt know what was going on!

    haha

  • one of the most amazing stunts ever. you never see this in movies, and it is in the most amazing movie ever.

  • cool

  • hehe it flipped becuase of co2 pressure and the well had to have a hell of lot of pressure :S

  • Damn, that was so cool! I wondered how they did that.

  • probably some type of hydraulics or air pressure mechanism.

  • If you want to see some pictures of the setup, I just added links to them in the video's description, as well a brief explanation of how the flip was pulled off.

  • was the landing loud enough to feel through the ground in your feet ? I think anyone who was able to witness behind the scenes of the true filming of this movie, of any scene, anywhere, is truly lucky.

  • I wasn't there, but I think that you probably could if you were as close as the people seen standing in the foreground. I believe the trailer was empty except for the equipment that powered and controlled the ram (and the ram itself), but that is still a lot of weight falling from pretty high. I doubt it shook the earth or anything, but I'm pretty sure the person who recorded this would have at least felt (in their feet) the ram hitting the ground.

  • ya !

  • As far as the audio goes, I'm pretty sure it was mostly if not completely replaced during editing. If I recall correctly, in the movie, the semi makes a creaking sound as it flips. The loud sound at the beginning of the flip in this video is made by a powerful ram mounted underneath the semi that caused the flip. That ram is also what causes the steam cloud/jet on the underside of the trailer, which is easily visible during the movie (but who looks at steam when a 40 foot trailer is flipping?):P

  • F'in A. SWEET. im so speechless and i wonder how they edit out all the people and sound going around. Because i remember seeing no people in tht scene. "HAH HE MISSED!"

  • The video kinda screws with your head a little since it was taken at such a high zoom. The people and other cars are actually pretty far away from the semi when it flips. Everything just looks like it's the same distance away because of the high zoom. That's also why it looks like the semi is barely moving forward. In reality, it was going about 35 MPH or so, based on the other video shot from overhead.

  • wow! :)

Must indeed be great to live over there, seeing the street scenes of all the famous movies...

Here in Belgium you're proud if you see the filming of the local series :D (not spectacular at all!)

  • You are one lucky SOB did you know that? That is going to be a classic scene someday, I swear.

Do you live in Chicago? That must have been awesome to see the things that were filmed on the streets.

  • WOW! JUST WOW!!!

  • Wow. I wish I had been there. That would have been awesome!

  • Great scene in the movie, instant classic.
