Bible scholar Bart Ehrman says the the bible is not the word of God, only the word of man. It just does not have the quality to be called the word of God. The bible is full of contradiction and error, is responsible for multitudinous denominations and theological arguments. A perfect God does not hate. He has no reason to, as he is all powerful. He also needs no saviors or holy spirits for the same reason. The Creator, the Heavenly Father is all sufficient. The bible is a quagmire.
seems that the emergent church is focusing on the actual words of Christ...you know, those "inconvenient" things like, feeding the poor, being peace keepers, turning the other cheek, loving your enemies...not as sexy as keeping gay people from marrying, I know...
I don't believe the post modern lie but I also don't believe that god is limited within scripture or bound by the mind of men. To make such assertion of sole scriptures is a form of bible idolatry. May savior is not a book of letters written by men. That book is only a testimony. Just like the testimony I heard from Art Katz. It was beautiful and like a living word because he made Christ alive is his testimony that he lived. That is what got my attention. Not the bible but a living testimony.

Without doctrine (scripture) we have no understanding of what morality, truth, or being a christian is.

Doctrine is the life saver;
1Timothy 4:16 Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.
Romans 16:17 Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which ye have learned; and avoid them.
Scripture is the be all and end all of truth. It is god's direct revelation to his people.
