ahtenor, before any of the basses, baritones & tenors you mentioned became 'great', - they were simply superb voices minus the reputation & label of 'greatness' from the general public. So too, in my opinion, is Joseph Calleja. Do you need the say so of professional critics & a world wide reputation before you believe the evidence of your own ears? Few sing this well even in recordings, let alone live.
I don't think he owes any of the great tenors an apology for voice or musicianship.
Calleja does not have a "nasty tremolo." He has a fast vibrato just like many of the great operatic legends from the early 20th century. He has a classic, traditional method of vocal production. His high notes are better than the vast majority of tenors out there, and in person his voice is surprisingly large, his projection impressive, and his voice has presence. By the way, almost anybody is better than Paul Potts. Calleja is light years better.
@rmm413c You apparently have far better ears and understanding of exceptionally high qualithy voices, unlike too many audiences today. The worst singing offenders today, however, today seem to be strident sopranos with too loose technique.
Beautiful voices, who is the other tenor?????

Hate to say this to the Pavarotti's fans, this young man is more musical than Mr. P.

Calleja is superb. He was amazing with Renee Fleming in La Traviata at the Royal Opera House, 6th July 2009!
The baritone singing here with Calleja in Malta is George Petean.

I can hear a few shades of the great Luciano in Calleja's ringing sound. Great tribute. Wonderful tenor. The other tenor is good, too!

That really isn't an insuly. It's credit to his range and flexibility.

Great duet. His partner's voice blends excellently with Calleja's.

Calleja has a nasty tremolo and sings like an amateur. Very poor high notes. Paul Potts is better.

Could not agree more. Potts is not an Opera singer. He is an entertainer with pretensions!
