  • and personally i think that dentists DO fuck ur jaw up.. i went to the dentist sooo many times and remember me havin to open my mouth for sooo long that it HUR|T... How many people with TMJ problems have been to the dentist numerous times and THEN suffered some TMJ problems?? HMM!?!

  • I'm 22 and I used be REALLY BAD guys... my jaw wouldnt just CLICK.,.. it would get STUCK :-0 stuck sideways :'( i had this problem for about a couple of years and it got so bad that it started to become very painful.. WEIRDLY I'm fine now.. not even a click. NOTHING.. it just healed! I forgot about it! I just wanted to come onto a tmj video to tell people to STOP grindin teeth whilst sleeping, eat soft foods etc and giv ur jaw TIME to heal.. SLowly it will get better.

  • what is TMJ? sorry I really don't understand

  • @TheAirsoftOhio TMJ stands for temporomandbular Joint . which is jaw joint

    Best wishes.

    @Todesnotiz

It looks to me, that if you would have received massage on the entire TMJ area, most likely you wouldn't suffer from this pain. I mean… keeping open mouth for a long time isn't such a physical load so muscles would be strained. But it would be the case, if these muscles’ resting tone significantly increased/strained. In such a case it would amount to injury. It would be good, if dentists' would consider this preventive measures.

    Get well fast,

    Boris

    @Todesnotiz

Stress management massage has to be applied constantly, on weekly basis. I believe that before dental treatment, you’ve accumulated a lot of tension in masticatory muscles, which was the precondition for your symptoms and keeping your mouth open for long time caused additional significant strain to it, which resulted in level 10 pain.

    ...to be continued...

  • @Todesnotiz I am very happy to hear that your pain reduced significantly. It is evident that treatment is working for you. Please do not expect that from one or two treatments you'll get read of all your symptoms. Usually, it takes around 15 treatments. Also please do not forget that we all constantly exposed to stress, and accumulation of muscular tensions, including tension in masticatory muscles, must be managed constantly.

    To be continued...

  • I want to try one of these massages. Where is your clinic located?

  • I'm a pretty serious grinder, this massage really helps preventing grinding during the night. Massagenerd also has a good one(For you grinders out there, search "massage for bruxism"), but Mgaft's is(as usual) the best.

I try to self administer as often as possible before bedtime. As it's stress-grinding, its impossible to recover from, but this certainly helps manage it.

  • Man that guy is so squishy looking...

  • I think i have a cold but my jaw is popping and cracking and random intervals. Does having a flu or cold have anything to do with this?

  • I was hit in the side left side of my jaw with a particularly fast softball in seventh grade.. now it is locked everytime i wake up. clicks severly. and pops everytime i take a bite. Surprisingly very little pain though

  • I appreciate the detail shown in this video, especially regarding referring pain, which is too often overlooked. This was very instructive!

  • @NinjaEggplant thank you very much for post. I'm glad that you did appreciate my work.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • Does anybodies else's jaw totally dislocates?

  • @balckbettystack mine

Well i have had tmj Every since i got fillings done.

Had my mouth open wide for 2 hours.

Well my jaw has been clicking and popping for 2 years.

Not to bad but now when i bite it really hurts my left.

    cheek.

    I need help.

    going to doctor on monday

  • @Adeel2k11 it is goodthat you are go to visit Dr.meantime as you described your symptoms I would highly recommend to eat soft food only.

    Get well fast .

    Boris

  • @mgaft1 yeah

My dentist ruined my life....bu having my mouth open for 2 hours to do fillings.

  • @Adeel2k11 please don't feel like :"dentist ruined my life."in many cases TMJ dysfunctions is treatable. possible God willing soon you will be well.

Again wishing you a fast recovery.

    Boris

  • @mgaft1 thanks

going doctor tomorrow then hopefully a scan soon

  • @mgaft1 I found a dentist who has adjusted the opposite crowns so most of my teeth close at the same time, and he fixed crowns so my teeth don't slide too far to the left when eating. Now I only experience pain occasionaly. My exteme pain is mostly gone.

  • @Adeel2k11 Mine doesn't click it fully doslocates. The X-ray showed on the opposite side that dislocates that the bone is flat and abnormal.BUT the side that does dislocates it has a ball joint and normal. You would think the flat side would be the one to dislocate. Not sure how I got mine, but Dr is already talking about Surgery, last resort, because the more you dislocate a joint the easier & more it will do it again.

    Hope you get some answers.

  • @balckbettystack

the hospital is contacting me this week.

I find it hard to explain but i got annoyed with my doctor who told me it will go away in a week, which is rubbish.

So yeah Hopefully in a week they get back to me and so some scans.

    Keep me posted please.

  • @Adeel2k11 My GP told me to chew a pencil 3 times a day. Yuck. New GP say's that's for stable TMJ. Seeing Oral Surgeon in a few weeks. See how I go there? But my Dentist said, Iv'e seen him before for teeth problems, is the best at treating TMJ.

I just hope you get some help soon.

I just hope I don't dislocate my jaw again soon. Yawning too big dislocates it.

  • Having doslocated my jaw way too many times & NEVER seeking medical help, last week I well & trully popped it out of joint.Being a nurse I finally sought help as the pain this time was unbearable.I was diagnosed with TMJ & sent home still dislocated!

My Dr prescribed Maxalt 3 X's daily.I have no idea why & DON'T want more meds. There is no litreture on Maxalt helping TMJ.

I am at my last straw with TMJ.Every time I yawn too big I dislocate my jaw.

  • can my face ever become DEFORMED becos of tmj i have been sufering from tmj for the last 7 years and have never done anything to fix it i just have been told that it goes with time i also took off my wisdom teeth cos a dentist told me it might be that but nothing changed its actually hurting , my face hurts sometimes i cant open my mouth fully unlesss i make some left-right movement of my jaw wich i cant do in public and thats is a huge problemin my life i also cant speak for a long time

  • oh my gawd that would feel soooo fucking good lol

  • Is this the chef from the muppets?

  • fuck ''he kill the poor dude IS THIS FACES OF DEATH ??

  • is that guy dead?

  • I would also like to add, that like some of the other commenters, I have found that 'mainstream' medical understanding and willingness to explore TMJ is TERRIBLE..

(almost as upsetting as the pain itself!).

after lenghty conversations with NHS representatives in the UK I was told that I could not get massage/osteopathy treatment..

the 'special treatments' 'director' told me to go to a dentist!

The dentists in general are the ones whose misunderstandings often create the TMJ imbalance. :(

  • thanks for sharing the helpful video. :))

I have experienced very painful TMJ 24 hours a day for about 5+ years..

I saw an osteopath for a few years and now have run out of money!

I have been in bed mostly for the last 6 months as it is the only way I can rest the jaw and get some pain relief..

I will certainly look through the self help/ self massage techniques you share.

    :)

  • @neekos72 i hope you will get better from my heart really cos ive been suffrng too for the last 6 or 7 years and i just dont know where all this pain and discomfort is taking me.... my dentist sugested to take off my wisdom teeth i did but nuuuthhinnn changed its just getting worse and the thing is that where i come from tmj is rarely discussed or known no true specialist or things like that well i never loose hope i try myself these massages and try to deal with it my self .

  • If you have tmj try to schedule a dentist appointment and talk about treatment, it is curable.

  • unfortunately i have TMJ. I broke my jaw when i was 5 years old back in 1999 from crashing on a bike & didnt get an x-ray/CAT scan until 2009. Now, Im a 17 year old girl&ive learned that it is one of the most painful things ill ever have to deal with. ive seen several TMJ specialists &went to PT, which has been super expensive, $5000 in the past year alone. &they didnt help at all. I'm afraid that surgery is going to have to be my next choice. TMJ is one miserable joint disorder to have.. :(

  • @KateJaneHam am sad to hear this is hapning to you and you are so young , may God be with you.

  • @KateJaneHam i have tmj too. My neck hurts all the way down to my shoulder. Everytime I find some help online they say buy my book. i was in a car wreck in 1999 and didnt figure out i had tmj until 2010. Now I'm 22 year olds. I don't want surgery. Tell me if that's what you have to have? My mouth has shifted to the right.

  • is TMJ cureable?, im so worried.

  • @0Darktouch0 in most cases one can restore normal TMJ function.irreversible damage is severe arthritis, including destruction of TMJ meniscus.all other cases is a chewing muscles disorders including development of trigger points that have to be eliminated.on my website selfmassagelessonscom I am proposing FREE hands-on lessons.you may discuss this option with your dentist.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • @0Darktouch0

im having the same doubts.. one of the dentists told me tht all u can do is to take pain killers and mj shd be ok in due time... i dont think so.. :(

  • @0Darktouch0 It depends i also got it....

  • @0Darktouch0 Listen Carefully u must go find a doctor to cure otherwise u will have to get surgery and there's a 50% chance that it might not go away....ITS OK UR NOT THE ONLY 1 OUT THERE IM ALSO SUFFERING CUZ OF TMJ RITE NOW

  • @0Darktouch0

when I got told I had tmj, I asked the same question, I was told that surgery to fix it has a very low chance of actually fixing it and that physio therapy was the best way to calm it. And Apperently it never completly goes. I got tmj three years ago, and it's started to calm down a bit, occasionally I get issues with it but not as much as I did a year ago.

  • This actually works! WOW Thank you!

  • What about occipatal pain; what do you suggest? Thank you~

  • @ou812baby at selfmassagelessonscom website(free lessons) I am proposing techniques for suboccipital structures mobilization and much more.

    Best wishes

    Boris

  • I would love to have something like this done! I was just diagnosed with tmj. They said when I was younger my jaw is misalined but it would just be a cosmedic surgery and it won't hurt me when I am older. Now I have many problems such as jaw popping wear on my teeth and my bite shifted.

  • @newyorkchica77 I'm sorry to hear about your suffering. Please visit

/selfmassagelessons website. On this site I'm proposing some techniques on that maybe could be helpful

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • This massage for TMJ disorder looks like it might help me. I was diagnosed a few months ago and have found that a lot of my pain is caused by tensing up my jaw muscles. If I can just get those muscles to relax, my pain goes away. I don't think my actual joint hurts at all. I'm doing this to myself for some reason--self-inflicting this condition on myself. I think I need some kind of "muscle retraining." Is that part of this massage--educating patient how not to do this?

  • @megbro at selfmassagelessonscom website(free lessons) I am teaching techniques for chewing muscles relaxation.please try it.

    Get well fast.

    Boris

  • I always had a clicking on my right side of jaw. Last night I yawned and it got stuck. I freaked out and went to the emergency to find out my jaw was out of socket. I now have an appointment with a dr. This was the worst feeling, not being able to open mouth further or close it.... I had to find something to fit in my mouth to temporarily rest my jaw.

  • sorry to ask but what does "TMJ" means ? something about jaws I think ? thanks for a non-native english speaker :)

  • @carmencru TMJ stands for temporomandibular joint.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • I believe that I may have developed a slight TMJ disorder due to blunt trama to the jaw while boxing. When I was punched in the jaw it dislocated and I stopped sparring for a little while. The pain in the inner ear persisted only for a few days then it disappeared. Occasionally, I get some discomfort in the ear, which is annoying but not painful. I still box, but when I get punched in the jaw, it actually feels as if it relieves the discomfort. Due you have any advice to why this happens?

  • @tastybuddha i have the same problem from a sucker punch tho.....same cause lol

  • Hey

I have this problem too. When i open my mouth the right side of the jaw has a click/pop sound. Although there is no pain. But its a bit uncomfortable while eating food. I had this from about 2years now. At the start, i visited the doctor, who asked me not worry if there is no severe pain. But sometimes it really worries me as i live alone these days. What can i do. Everytime i open my mouth to eat or talk, it clicks. =(

  • @deathclaw492 do you still have it?

  • @deathclaw492 Do not worry i have it to but doctor says mine is heavy if the clicking continues stretch out ur jaw keep doing that if ur able to open it big and wide ur very lucky. O and stop chewing a lot i went to the doctor and he told me not to chew food for 3 months find something soft 2 eat like porridge or noodles or stuff like that. If u continue to chew ur jaw will get worse and you'll probably have to get surgery. Remember my friend you are not the only person out there who has TMJ.

  • @AnimesAreCool123 My doctor has told me not to go for the surgery..instead avoid biting onto hard items, avoid too much stretching! I've started going for massage recently! Just seeing how it works! =)

  • @AnimesAreCool123 That would be a nightmare for me.I have a swallowing dosorder & would choke. My Dr asked me to chew a pencil 3 times a day for ten minutes on the right side.

Every time I yawn to big I dislocate my jaw & it get's stuck.Being a nurse I want to try & help myself by I seem to be running around chasing my tail.It is so frustrating. And who do you see & trust to treat you?I have a Neurologist so wil ask him in a few days.

  • @deathclaw492 Try not to make your jaw click. Try to discover what foods make your jaw click and try to avoid them. Maybe your jaw can heal.

  • @deathclaw492 Same with me. Click/pop sound right jaw, didn´t hurt for years until last week :-) Same with the joints at knee, many years of sound, doctors said "don´t worry, eso es normal", than many years later, started the pain, too...

  • grrr i cant think because of my tmj/lockjaw

its hard to talk and think properly

  • my sister notice some clicking and pain in her jaw recently and i am afraid that she has TMJ,,what would be our first step in curing it? should we opt first to go to the dentist or therapists?

  • Dear jodeath619abano

clicks and pain in your sister jaw is a symptoms of TMJ dysfunction. The medical massage protocols that I am demonstrating is a very effective treatment for this dysfunctions but first I would highly recommend to see Dr. for evolution to exclude other diseases that possibly can produce the same symptoms. Oral screening by dentist as well simple x-ray excluding it.TMJ dysfunction do not go away by themselves but with time getting worse if not to treat it.Best wishes

    Boris.

  • dentists don't want to admit when they give us TMJ and destroy our lives.

  • @cactimargie yea, my "TMJ" ( not confirmed havent seen a doctor) started to happen when i was getting my braces :S...

  • @0Darktouch0 I'm sorry to hear of your pain. Unfortunately when the dentists start doing things to affect our bite, they sometimes give us TMJ. I have definately given up on any dentist being able to help me. They have been slowly distroying my health the the past 6 years. I am learning what foods to avoid and not to close my teeth together. I know now I will have this problem for the rest of my life.

  • @cactimargie as I stated in my reply to @0Darktouch0 in most cases one can restore normal TMJ function.irreversible damage is severe arthritis, including destruction of TMJ meniscus.all other cases is a chewing muscles disorders including development of trigger points that have to be eliminated.on my website selfmassagelessonscom I am proposing FREE hands-on lessons.I am assuming that you are a young person and shouldn't consider this problem as lifetime.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • @cactimargie My Dentist admitted just the other day that they give some people TMJ by making them keep their mouths open so wide, for so long.

  • Comment removed

  • After a detist adjusted 4 back upper crowns, I went into severe tmj, and lost 15 pounds right away. I couldn't chew and didn't know how to eat. Pain was in my jaw joint, neck , back that sent me to bed for an entire month. Dentists don't realize how sick people get when their teeth don't fit together properly. Currently, I 'm on a liquid and mush diet. I resent not being able to eat the foods I normally eat. I keep my mouth open in a natural position and this is relieving my tmj.

  • I HIGHLY encourage those with TMJ before resorting to surgery, braces, etc. to try massage. After one month of massage therapy (2 x week for 2 wks, then 1 x week for 2 wks) my pain, numbness, locking jaw, was gone. Find a therapist experienced in TMJ (including knowing how to work inside your mouth with a glove), myofascial release and trigger point therapy. Not all therapists know how to do this. Also, wear a mouthguard at night - very important. Best of luck in whatever therapy you choose

  • I'm affraid no massage would help me since I've been experiencing pain in my enitre jaw and cheek bones for about 3 years now on daily basis. Sometimes it eases off and doesn't hurt as much but most of the time it's unbearable. I've also noticed that I have some difficulties with hearing and an assimetrical face which clearly indicates that my jaw is dislocated. I'm really not happy and would gladly go to an operation but since I'm a student, that's out of question.

  • What do you mean?

  • i suffered with tmj for years. i then went to the eastman dental hospital in london and they identified medical therapy together with counselling as the treatment. i went to many dentists and massagists before. It was a con trick they use.

  • I have neck pain, headaches and ear pain and sometimes my teeth it has been going on for five days what would you recommend I do?

  • cutting the story short i had bad headaches and inner ear pain . but by putting my finger in my ear and opening my jaw whilst pushing my fingers down there was 2 clicks . i have never felt better relief in my life, much better than pain killers. i even do that now. it took me days to make it click but once it happend i knew i will get adicted to doing that as it would be relieving. i still do it now and would advise those who are in pain to do that. then reply back to me.

    hope that helps any1

  • Dear Akbar2189 . your description fitting TMJ dysfunction that mainly is a result of masticatorie muscles as well as affiliated fascia dysfunction. you describing act of somehow taking care of TMJ subluxation. can assure you that this not adequate treatment. would recommend to see exports who knows how to eliminate myofacial dysfunctions. it is important otherwise TMJ meniscus as well cartilage surfaces can be damaged and not reversible.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • im just a student that has tmj and what i described has relieved some of the pain. i know that tmj will keep on deteriorating. i have never had this problem before i had braces so i think if my bit was rearranged to how it was b4 then it would be back to normal. but this is my own opinion. tell me what you think cos now its gotten a little worser.

  • @Akbar2189 is there any video on youtube or else that explains or shows this technik thankx

  • woa your tmj hurts that much and you have had it for 5 months , i have had it for about a year and a half i 1st got it when the dentist wanted to move my bite. i heard clicking on the left side. it was loud clicks like but they were not very common. i mentioned it to my dentist and she said oh its just muscle tension. but as time went it progressed. i then had my milk teeth pulled out and had the fixed braces applied on. then it deteriorated and i felt pain on da right side jaw muscles.

  • I had tmj since i was a kid. Whenever it hurts and feels like my jaw has like a bubble in it i tap it with the hard palm of my hand right above the wrist and u hear this pop and then feel total relief. Kinda like cracking a knuckle.

  • As a patient of tmj, you should never have your patient laying face down. It hurts to do so and causes headaches. My people do me face up.

  • great Video! I think your technique looks amazing and this was very educational. Thanks!

  • Dear mollyfucface. I'm glad that you like my performances. thank you very much for comment.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • Boris, did you ask the client if they preferred laying on their JAW?

  • Dear cranstesky. laying, onside do not providing needed demobilization of TMJ therefore wouldn't recommend to perform massage in this position.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • Boris please i need your help I commented 5 months ago and you never helped me i respect your massage videos and i need your help. I feel fluid in my jaw but its not TMJ what should i do?

  • Dear Ajd8281. I do believe that you feeling fluid in your Jaw at the time you claiming that this is not at TMJ. I think that you should be checked by dentist to find out what is it. Best wishes.

    Boris

  • ok thanks

  • I have a question... I was diagnosed with TMJ and I'm only 14... My mom was freaking out because I'm not supposed to be that stressed... But it's only in one ear, and sometimes it's like the hearing's muffled or something and it really hurts. Should I ask my mom if we can go to the dentist?

  • yes u should it may work....

  • Thanks for this post! My husband has terrible TMJ and I have been massaging his jaws for a while and now I can do it correctly!

  • thank you for posting this...very informative to actually see it in action!

  • hi boris my tmj is becoming extremley annoying when i expand my cheek to make it look like a "bubble" it feels like there is fluid in there and when i push on it i feel it and i dont know how to get rid of it what should i do??

  • ya my jaw clicks 2 i dont have a clue how 2 avoid it any suggestions?????

  • Dear seabo9. sorry to hear about your TMJ problems. 1st tri to eat soft food only and ASAP see a dentist for diagnosis and treatment plan discussion. tri to avoid complication such as joint damages. Best wishes.

    Boris

  • about a year and a half ago, i noticed that my jaw would click, or would seem to get jammed when i opened and closed my mouth. the time that the "sticking" prolonged for gradually got longer and longer until it got stuck completelly and now i can only open my mouth about half way. It has been like this for about a year now and i have tried everything i can think of to fix it. It is only stuck on one side- can anyone suggest what i can try to fix it?

  • youve had if for a year!?!?! ive had it for atleast 5 months now i think im going to kill my self it hurts soo bad when i try to open my mouth i have the same exact thing as you..i looked up the surgery and it costs 5 thousand dollars i cant cope with this ..............its ruining my life!

  • i know its so anoying. i have seen just a family doctor and she said it would most likely just go away but NO! i only just convinced my mum (being 16 i kinda gotta convince her :) ) that its acctually not something in my mind so im going to the dentist in a few days. i will let you know what they say! hopefully theres a way to get rid of it before i go mad

  • yeah thanks!! let me know because this is not going away!! its on my left side.. it hurts when i try to open mouth more than halft an inch. when i eat foods like anything bigger than a sandwich it hurts grrr let me know wat they say

  • U need to see a dentist.TMJ disorders have a lot of causes and u need to find out what these are and solve or avoid them.Anyway surgical procedures for TMJ are rarely necessary so u shouldn't worry so much and try to be relaxed.Good luck in treating.

  • Last night I had one too many to drink. I began puking, and about the third time I vomited my gag reflex literally popped my jaw out of its socket. Some of the worst pain I've had in awhile, needless to say. If anyone has knowledge about this subject, could this be a sign of TMJ? I went to the hospital where they drugged me and popped my jaw back in, yet I am still worried that this could happen again.

  • I think that happened to you because you open your mouth too big! it happened to my friend long time ago, we were laughing so much! and I guess she was opening her mouth too big that she couldn't close her mouth ,so we went to the ER and she had her mouth open all the way to the hospital!! And that was NOT the first time that happened to her.Take care.

  • My jaw has clicked for as long as i can remember .I never had any pain up until 2 days ago and now the pain wont stop it's like toothache and a headache down the right side of my face ,I feel drained and I'm irritated .If it doesnt go in the next couple of days I'm gonna see my doctor!!

  • same exact situation for me man. it sucks having TMJ

  • the massage looks like it feels soooo good...

anyway, came upon this video after searching for why my jaw is swelling and numb. i can feel my wisdom tooth coming out, so I think that's the culprit (although it should come out without obstructing other teeth...). In the meantime I'll massage myself and see the dentist!

  • it is very common to have impacted wisdom teeth. my dentist said my wisdom teeth looked like they were coming in straight, and the next month he took another x-ray and the bottom two were impacted

  • yea i heard when erupting, wisdom teeth are unpredictable. anyway, gonna get them taken out! bothering the heck out of me.

  • I had TMJ for a year now and it clicks really really loud like nasty style. And am only 14 and my wisdom teeth are coming out. And my doctor said there nothing he can do about my TMJ cause it doesn't hurt or anything and it pisses me off because every time i chew its soooo loud. :[

  • I'm pretty sure that when I yawn I sometimes do the click.

  • Dear TinaJeanMonroe.

As you describe your very severe clicks, would recommend to have 2nd opinion. meantime I would highly recommend to avoid hard food. I mean an apple can be cut on very small pieces or even bland. So can be done with other hard food including meat. but in any case will be important to have 2nd opinion from other doctor.

    Best wishes.

  • I've been experiencing clicking and the popping of my jaw for quite a few months now.. but every so often my jaw locks and i can open only open my month about an inch and it stays like that for many days.. what can i do to unlock it?

  • I would suggest seeing your doctor to confirm that diagnosis. If your jaw locks up for several days at a time, you probobly have a far-along cast of tetanus.

  • i was wondering if this can cause your wisdom teeth to come through, coz ive got ithis problem on my right side, and have had it for 5 or so months, now my wisdom tooth is coming through, and im a little to young for it to happen, im 15, so can it cause this?

  • Dear Barbushca.

all possible. you should see a dentist. please keep in mind. severeTMJ dysfunctions can start developments from very young age.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • My jaw has had phases of clicking and is quite stiff sometimes. Yesturday i woke up and my bottom left front tooth keeps grinding against my top left front tooth when i close my jaw which stops my back teeth from sitting properly, Its really frustrating, will it stay like this? Is there anything i can do to fix it?

  • Dear wehaveableeder . according to your description it is obvious that you have developed TMJ dysfunction. I would recommend ASAP to see dentist. sometime night guard can play significant role for improvement. in any case if not be treated TMJ can develop unreversible conditions. Best wishes and fast recovery .

    Boris

  • Hi,

I have had TMJ for about 17 years now (since I was 8) Even though my mother took me to treatment right away the treatments never helped except to relieve pain.

Is there any idea what happens when a misalignment of this joint lasts for this long? Does it progress into osteoarthritis?

  • Dear lunardolly.

Very sorry to hear your story. it sounds a bit neglected.if 8 years old person developing TMJ disfunction and it last for 17 years it will be good idea to see oral surgeon as well orthodontist.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • I've been experiencing clicking for almost a year now, ever since i got braces. I've had no pain until sometime this month. Now, my jaw (left side) has gotten stiffer and is very painful to chew/open mouth. Before it got stiffer I was able to open my mouth wide, though it would crack, but with no pain. Now I feel if i tried to force it open, my jaw will break, or jsut crack SO painfully.

  • Dear ralaurashayna. it is a mistake to experience clicks for 1 year and not to talk about it with your doctor. do it now. meantime would recommend not to eat hard food at all. I believe that in most cases it treatable. don't lose time. see your doctor.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • yeah

he said until my next appointment i should not chew gum, eat softer foods, and keep track of when i get sore, where i get sore, etc.

although, he said it may not be treatable, whihch is why he need mroe information

  • Do you ever massage the masseter from inside the mouth or do you just work outside? I am an LMT and I have worked the masseter from inside the mouth but it can be very painful for a client with severe TMJ. Is there any benefit to working inside the mouth or can the same result be achieved working trough the skin of the cheek.

Thank you for your wonderful video series. Very professional and informative!

  • Dear kirstdav . I believe that medial pterygoid muscles can be successfully mobilized by placing( bilateral) tips of the fingers on projection of TMJ. as a matter of fact many reports on aggravations when this muscles are mobilized in the cavity of the mouth. I'm glad that you like my work. you're welcome to visit my side for more additional information include articles.

    Best wishes.

  • Will do. Thanks.

  • Hi,

I recently noticed that my jaw(Left side) does make a slight amount of clicking sound when i open it to a certain level. But i've never had any pain. Also i do have an underbite for which i've recently started the braces treatment. Can the cause of the click be TMJ?

  • Dear slashybluesy,

Obviously, you are experiencing clicks at Temporal Mandibular Joint (TMJ) Even with no pain clicks can be the results of TMJ dysfunction. I would recommend to talk about it with your orthodontist that installed your braces.

  • hi, im 15 and woke up in the night with very painfull feeling around the left ear but not achuly the ear, i dont know what it is please help! can i get rid of it myself?? or di i have to go to the doc or what do i do!?!?

  • Dear imnot18butso,

The painful feeling around the left ear could be the result of TMJ dysfunction or can be the symptoms of many other disorders. For the correct diagnosis please see the doctor.

    Boris.

  • Thankyou I took your advice and the doctor said it might just be growing pains and might go away in a few days thankyou for replying =).

  • Hi, I recently found out I have TMJ, and its horrible, but the symptons make so much sense! :O cause ive been having major head aches and troubles sleeping. Also, i gotta question, i keep getting this feeling were its hard to breath and like i have to take in one big breath to feel even. then im okay for awhile, but it comes back, kind of like the feeling if some ones holding a pillow infront of your face. Well i was wondering if this is because of TMJ?please get back to me, and great video! :)

  • Dear Julilly84 .

Sorry to hear about your health troubles. don't think that :"feeling if some ones holding a pillow infront of your face" is related to TMJ dysfunction. stress secondary can couse TMJ function as well anxieties. you should talk to your doctor about breathing problem.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • okay, thank you very much for the reply! :)

and I have talked to a nurse, and she said its from axiety. I'm not sure what that is, but im going to look into it, but thanks for your advice. :)

  • Hi I had a tooth taken out last month, my jaw was pop out and I could not close it about seconds. after a tooth taken out a month I feel like my jaw is not in the right position or one side was broken, beacuse I cant chew like normal and one of my jaw side is bigger than the other one. I am wondering what is happenning to it? And what I can do? And is this message can help?

    Please give me help

    Thanks

  • Dear darong1981. sorry to hear about your suffering. I believe that previously to tooth extraction you had some severe tension with in masticatorie muscle as well some changes within joint. the force of sitting with open mouth coused some aggravation of TMJ dysfunction. massage could be very helpful. consultant your dentist and find somebody who trained to do this.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • before you had tooth extraction last month, you already had TMD. It only got worse when during the last tooth extraction.

usually your jaw "pops" when closing and opening

you may have more than 2 missing teeth.

have a visit to your TMJ DENTIST, because sympsoms like lower back pain, headache, ringing ear, or numbness of arm may arise

  • what is T>M>J>

  • Dear darrthaynes,

The temporomandibular joint is the joint of the jaw and is frequently referred to as TMJ. There are two TMJs, one on either side, working in unison. The name is derived from the two bones which form the joint: the upper temporal bone which is part of the cranium (skull), and the lower jaw bone called the mandible.

    Regards,

    mgaft

  • That would tickle the shit out of me

  • The patient really does his work well. He's still like a corpse.

  • i want to be massaged! maybe you could help me with my tmj

  • Very informative video.

I've had TMJD for 5 years now (stress-related, so I am told my my doctor). Tonight has been so bad.. I'm up at 3am because the pain is excruciating. I've taken some painkillers (which are just about working now) and massaged my jaw, which helps a little.

I think massages like this one are the way forward for me...

  • omg this is sooooo relaxing for some strange reason

  • Dear Xaven87,

I am glad that you enjoying viewing my videos. As a matter of fact there exist many evidences that only viewing massage session will cause some relaxation. Now there is availabel my self treatment DVDs. I am recommending to view my Youtube clips on this subject.

  • I have tmj as well, or had it. My jaw doesn't pop like it did when it first started. Maybe I'm cured, though it feels like my jaw doesn't open all the way. I'm 26 years old right now, my tmj dysfunction started when I was 16 years old.

  • Although not diagnosed by a doctor yet, for a long time I have had painful locking, popping, and clicking on the side of my jaw (exactly where the TMJ is located). My dentist fears that the disk may have worn out badly, because at first it used to pop, but now it doesn't really pop anymore, it's just incredibly painful and "looser", if you know what I mean. It's my fault for neglecting my condition, but I would like to know, if my disks have worn out, would I need surgery?

  • Dear redeyedol.

1st of all there is different degree of severeness for"disks have worn out" therefore not always surgery is necessary.looks like you need good radiological examinations todetermine conditions of your TMJ. soon will be available my self TMJ treatment DVD where I will teach self massage, trigger points therapy, ice massage and TMJ exercise program. if yourTMJ is not severely effected by arthritis and no lose body will be detected this program will helpyou alot.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • Thank you very much for your advice, it was greatly appreciated.

  • yeah i have the same thing - painful locking popping and clicking - it sucks. My jay is loose and the disk is out of place. I am now going to a jaw specialist, and it looks like I'll have to wear a device inside my mouth, an "orthotic splint" - for 2 years. Then I have to get braces for 2 years. Then, supposedly, it will be cured.

  • the guy on the table had every parts of his body massaged...lucky him

  • I'm glad to have seen this video. I have been suffering TMJ a few months only and this looks like it could be beneficial to me. I have seen my own doctor who referred me to my dentist but my sentist referred me to a specialist, which i will see in 2 weeks time. I'm guessing a night guard or splint will be recommended but i'm not sure as the jaw seems very hyper mobile at the moment

  • Dear aislingof81.

we pursuit several goals when have uploaded this clips. One of them is to educate the general public on different options of treatments as well to awake awareness about the necessity to take immediate care on certain problems otherwise complications is unavoidable.this is good idea timely to take care of TMJ dysfunction which can avoid development of pathology to the level of necessity of surgical intervention.Thank you very much for comment.

    Best wishes.

  • My dentist sent me to a physical therapist and what they did was pretty much all massaging the muscle, gave me some exersizes to do on my jaw and some exersizes to strengthen my neck and shoulder muscles, no night gaurd or anything. I don't know if that's what you're doctor is gonna do, but it's just kind of a reference I guess... it all helped me a lot.

  • i have ds disorder also it's been 7 days im suffering from this i consulted it to a dr. and she said it is tmj and the only thing that can relieve this is 2 take pain medicine when i open my mouth and chew my right jaw sores and d left side of my face clicks i can stand d pain but early in the morning when i wake up, when i open my mouth it feels like my right jaw is dislocated the pain is really excruciating.if i clench my right jaw it sores a lil is there any other way to totally cure this?

  • Dear meatusorifice.

Ido respect diagnosis by your doctor but am afraid that in cases like you described will be not enough to take painkillers only. talk to your doctor about a night guard and ask if to do local ice massage is OK. meantime try to eat soft food only and before going to sleep tried to relax, if to view TV than only relaxing programs. during 1 month will be out my new DVD self stress and headaches management massage. on this DVD I also cover treatment of TMD.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • i was told to consult my dentist, there various opperations to help.

  • Dear anyfrax

To see a dentist is a good idea but surgery should be the last option. In most cases TMJ dysfunction starts from chewing muscles disorders. Muscular insufficiency leads to TMJ instability that causes acceleration of osteoarthritis development, including disproportional to age degenerative changes within ligaments, etc. If its not too late (not severe arthritis, disk destruction etc.) a special medical massage protocol can help. I offer it on my site on DVD #8.

    Best wishes.

    Boris

  • Thanks you Boris, i highly appreciate your response, how much is your DVD and where can i find it? thx

  • Thank you very much Boris, I will look into what kind of doctor deals with this mayofacial dysfunction right away and see if they can help me! You have been of great help!

  • I have severe pain in my neck, right shoulder and back. My jaw opens too much on the left and not at all on the right. If I go for more than 2 seconds without moving my right shoulder in a circular motion, I feel severe stiffness and pain in the right upper body. When I try to ease the tension by moving this shoulder in a circular motion, I feel bubbles of air rushing up &down from my right shoulder into my skull. I do this 24/7 and I cant take it anymore. What's this problem and what can I do?

  • Dear mizfyn101.

sorry to hear about your suffering. many times difficult symptoms like you suffering from could be result of mayofacial dysfunction. I mean no spinal pathology like disk hernia ets. radiological means can't pickup this mayofacial dysfunction but palpations.massage can be effective in this cases.TMJ disorder can be developed unilateral but looks to severe that your jaw "opens too much on the left and not at all on the right." in any case you must see Dr.ASAP.

    Best.Boris

  • I have tmj cause of teeth grinding at night, i need a nightguard but i was told it can't go over braces and i'm gettin braces in the next few weeks so yah kinda sux for me! :(
