  • What roms r available for the Droid charge

  • THANKS!! This is the only youtube video that worked for me! You are awesome!

  • When I look for new ROM's it tells me device must be rooted. This being said, how do I get it rooted to put a ROM on there. I just flashed EE4 using Odin, and got it back up and running. Where do I go from here?

  • No I haven't flashed anything. I just wanted to know if ur phone is root can u do more w the customization or do u have to flash a rom to do that? Or when ur phone is rooted does it give stuff to do this? Just mainly in a nutshell what can u do to a phone when it is rooted?

  • Does having clockworkmod on phone mean its rooted Sry just trying to learn abt this stuff n I wanna root my phone

  • @Bcarter2360 Ask away, I will try to help with whatever I can. Rooting is based on the kernel of the phone which is the primary piece giving or limiting access to all the files on the phone. Root means you have full access which means you can run root only apps like titanium backup. Having clockwork in place of the normal recovery likely means you are running a rooted kernel, but it may not. Did you flash a ROM?

  • Starting I got CWM on my Charge, booted to that. I made a backup first. Then installed the Kernal Zip, followed by the SuperUser Zip. It booted normally, but when I went to use ROM Manager, and Open Garden, it said my device wasn't rooted. I tried restoring it but it wont go past the Samsung Logo. I then tried to hard reset and recover, I still can't get passed the samsung logo. Any help would be a dfinite plus. I can talk online if you have any suggestions...

  • @mrlgsedam ROM Manager canNOT be used on the droid charge. It breaks your ROM. And most people that try to make a backup never are able to boot into it. Read on xda developers for building complete flashable backups. Right now your phone is just fine. You just need to pick a complete ROM to flash which can include stock recovery. You can find all the files on xda developers forum. Make sure it is one that is complete and is made to use the odin PDA button not PIT button. Let me know.

  • i need a download working link for the gingerbread attachements

  • @theaudiorampage What is a gingerbread attachment? All the files you need to root are found through the link to the forum posting in the show notes.

  • i did everything correctly but my apps tell me my phone is not rooted! i need help, please. thanks.

  • @codaro100 You may have miss stepped just a little without realizing it. If the kernel did not take before the initial boot then it will all undo itself without your knowledge. Can you boot into clockwork or do you just see the old recovery mode? I would suggest flashing again, but first see if you have superuser up and running correctly.

  • Worked great, thanks for the time you put into the video. I would emphasize that if you let the phone boot up normally before installing the kernel, that clockwork mod needs to be re-installed via Odin. I accidentally let go of a button when I was booting to recovery mode and it took me a while to figure out what was wrong.

  • @chipmanager Thanks for the tip and glad it helped. That seems to be a common problem for many.

  • i just finished this process... how do i know if it actually worked?

  • @skilaxer13 Can you run root only programs?

  • thank you bro...

  • @omargto9 Glad to help...

  • @Ambzdanielle U got it I guess then?

  • hmmm...followed these instructions to a tee...still don't get root though...

  • @AstroBarian No luck with titanium backup? You missed a step somewhere. Did you follow the steps on the forum? Maybe watch the video again. If you miss anything it will undo itself. Is it reading unmount?

  • @AstroBarian Also do you have unknown applications checked in settings?

  • @AstroBarian If you have the kernel loaded you can only have root. But if you missed any little thing then you will not be abl to use the kernel for root access. Does it read mount or unmount? In settings do you have allow unknown sources checked? Try to run titanium backup app and let me know how it goes.

  • Can you use mac?

  • @akilovesyou95 Yes and no. I use a mac air running windows 7. If you use lion you will need hemdall which is not really supported and generally more difficult to use. It replaces odin as odin is for windows.

  • Sorry, for the crazyness. I got an error message: Sorry, I could not acquire root priviliges. This application will not work! Please verify that your ROM is rooted and includes BusyBut , and try again? Than is Says: Root access X FAILED!

  • figured it out! thanks again man. you the best

  • @ljalmanzar1 excellent!

  • I ran the Titanium as you suggested and didn't see any apps. Or, at least that what it said,"No apps in list."

  • @rfnello600 No apps in list is only because you have not put any there yet. Just being able to run titanium backup means you are rooted and ready to go. If you were not rooted titanium backup would not even start.

  • i did all your steps but my CWM is the older version...how do di get the newer?

  • @fabygfree What version number are you running? What color is it? All you have to do is download the version you want to your phone and flash it just the same as you did the one you are running.

  • @kraisydave the version is 4.0.1.4 and its a orangish yellowish color.. I tried looking for the newer verision but i cant find the downlaod anywhere. When you say flash it just as i did the one i have...you mean via ODIN right? and is it really necessary to have the new version?

  • @fabygfree Yes, via odin. Did you follow the show notes for the links to everything? Maybe there was a glitch in the links. Let me know. You should have gotten the updated version. Check the links again.

  • @kraisydave so it says the same thing. what do you think if i went to the mounts and storage in CWM and mount everything?

  • @kraisydave *do you think that it might have to do with he mounting and unmounting?

  • @ljalmanzar1 Yep, possible. The su binary must be able to run. It must read unmount which means that it is mounted. You may just repeat the whole process as it will not interrupt your apps. Somewhere there is a glitch.

  • @kraisydave i just reinstalled the kernal and superuser. do

  • @ljalmanzar1 Ok.. how is it going?

  • @ljalmanzar1 Try to run titanium back and see what happens. It must get superuser permission to work.

  • @kraisydave alright i will try this. and let you know. and i see that stuff when i enter the mounts and storage section but other than that i dont remember.

  • @ljalmanzar1 The su binary is what other apps call when they need superuser rights. The binary checks the database maintained by Superuser.apk to determine if you have already granted rights to the requesting app, and if not tells Superuser.apk to display a prompt asking you for permission. This is your problem at the moment...now to find a fix.

  • Well, it did what I thought I was suppose to do, to no avail! Don't know what I did wrong. I don't think I am rooted, how would I know.

  • @rfnello600 Time to run a root app. Try anything really. I would suggest trying to run titanium backup. It will ask for superuser access, allow that.

  • Thank you very much for this video. It was really helpful and I greatly appreciate you taking the time and effort out to make these videos. Please keep 'em coming cus I subscribed! All the best!

  • @wongster88 Thanks for the support. I was thinking about a vid on the Infinity ROM and a how to on HDR photography with the charge. Got a busy weekend tho first.

  • MrQuiggles12@ It did run on Froyo, but Verizon finally pushed out Gingerbread and even now some people have Ice Cream Sandwich running. But ICS is missing the ability to talk with the towers, so it is only a PDA if you flash that.

  • I thought that the Charge ran on Froyo?

  • @MrQuiggles12 It did run on Froyo, but Verizon finally pushed out Gingerbread and even now some people have Ice Cream Sandwich running. But ICS is missing the ability to talk with the towers, so it is only a PDA if you flash that.

  • I am unable to reply to individuals right now..youtube is broke. To answer you question - download the file just like downloading any other file on the computer or phone. Select it on the forum and it will start to download. I prefer to go to the forum on the phone so it downloads right to the phone. If you use a computer you must move the file to the phone in a folder of your choice.

  • I am new to this; when the file screen opened I couldn't find the .md5 file? how do I get the file? Thx

  • @rfnello600 Look under my videos. Links to the forums are there for all the downloads.

  • thanks man since megaupload is gone this has been a pain in the ass to find somehting

  • @AmTheBroseph01 No problem

  • it said pass on odin and i installed everything but then i checked if i was rooted with an app called root check and it said that i do not have proper root access. super user is on my phone. What do you think is wrong?

  • @ljalmanzar1 It is likely you missed a step - how are things now?

  • @kraisydave My phone is fine but still no root acess =( so i cant do all the cool stuff. I dont know what i could have missed. I can still boot in to CWM.

I was thinking of just redoing it but i didnt want to since i already had a pass and stuff and i dont know how to get back to complete stock to redo (last option)

  • @ljalmanzar1 Try the app BusyBox - that may help. And see about updates to superuser. Open superuser and try to update it from within the app itself. Let me know...

  • @kraisydave i tried that but it says that it needs root access and when i tried to update it says "failed to find currently installed su binary. Update cannot continue"

  • @ljalmanzar1 Okay - use your phone to download a fresh copy of superuser completing it just like in the video. See if that fixes it up. If not then a new flash of a fresh copy of the kernel. In clockwork do you see the word unmount or mount?

  • @ljalmanzar1 no prob-glad to help

  • How shall I put this...THANK YOU SOOO MUCH :] I've always been super scared to root my phone only because I haven't found many reliable looking or up-to date instructions. One thing though, the part about mounting was a little confusing but I think I figured it out. Just to clarify, were you supposed to CLICK "unmount system" or leave it as is?

  • @Ichig06 No prob.. appreciate the support. Follow the link to the forum in the how notes. It has written instructions to help you. As for the mount-yep I could have made that a little better. If it states "mount" and you select it...you are then mounting. After it finishes you will be "mounted" and it will now leave you with the option reading "unmount".

  • Im just wondering and also trying to make sure I have the right file to flash with.

  • So, I got a pass on ODIN, but, when I rebooted into recovery, it appeared to boot in the stock recovery mode that came with the phone. When I looked, I had downloaded the 0817_charge_recovery.tar.md5 and installed it. Can I install the 1209_charge_recovery_tar.md5 over the top of it...

  • @mysideofcrazy It goes to stock if you do not mount the new kernel correctly as in the video. You will have to put the kernel back on and mount it so that root takes so that clockwork will stay.

  • Thx for the quick reply.

so the file i download from your link. 1209_charge_recovery.tar.tar

I should just change the file name to 1209_charge_recovery.tar

and that file is the md5 file you are talking about?

I do not have to extract it?

does this method work with samsung charge with 2.3.6?

  • @vinsuh Do not worry so much about that. You seem to be not understanding important pieces. Watch the video again and follow the link in the show notes to the forum and read everything. Then go forward with the flashing. I just do not want you to get stuck in the process.

  • The download for ClockWorkMod (CWM) Recovery question:

I downloaded the file 1209_charge_recovery.tar.tar and extracted using winrar to get a recovery.bin file.

You mention a .md5 file.... where is this file?

  • @vinsuh It depends on where you download the file from. A .md5 file is just a .tar file with the extension of .tar.md5. You may need to remove the .tar.tar extension making it just one .tar, but likely not.

  • KrazyD Thank you very much. Great video.

  • @JAMAEL89 You are very welcome. Glad it helped...
