They just played in Atlanta new years eve and had another incredible show! People, don't think too deeply about the meanings of the lyrics. Just listen to the music and enjoy it for what you get out of it! One person may find the meaning of life listening to Mastodon Farm, another may think the song is about a farm, of mastodons. And you can both love Cake!
i think it's about how people see the world in a way that HAS to be meaningful to them, they strive to find meaning in the actual randomness, which is funny because that's what people do when they hear this song and try to understand it hahahahahah I LOVE CAKE MAN FOREVER AND EVER AMEN
@MoontouchedOwlBeast In this song, near 4:00, listen really carefully. the backround vocal sounds like it says "As the band gets higher, the ppl get louder". Ive often wondered if these guys smoke weed. Im sure they do, but choose not to make it ovbious.
@MoontouchedOwlBeast In this song, at 4:20 (haha), listen really carefully. the backround vocal sounds like it says "As the band gets higher, the ppl get louder". Ive often wondered if these guys smoke weed. Im sure they do, but choose not to make it ovbious.
The early 1990's was a great time for Alt music. I remember all the free & super cheap shows CAKE played in Sac. back in the day. KWOD 106.5 would announce a free CAKE show at some park downtown. Cool shows by a fun band to see.
Meaning or no meaning, I envy John McCrea's lyrical creativity. Between their lyrics, their unique guitar rythyms and riffs, and driving bass lines, CAKE is the ideal model band for the demonstration of passionate music.
I want some of whatever you're on, partner. I miss college, too! (Don't rat me out, though). :) Don't let any Republicans or Bears fans get a hold of this song. They'd ruin it.
The human experiance is a simple one, but it is a million billion trillion simple things layered upon eachother. Like a spider's webs, its nothing but single strands connected together... and yet, spider webs are anything but simple. TO discuss the true meanings of this song in a proper way would require too much discussion and brain power for any human :/
Sometimes i try and understand a song, but i tend to listen to the way the lyrics sound without ever hearing the words themselves.
this song is extremely easy to understand what he is talking about. it doesn't get much better than this =) Cake is the best in the east too @Joblak05 lol
Why are you so happy about stars for something YOU didn't make.. Get overyourself. I appreciate the bootlegging but don't think you actually did anything
ok honestly, lets stop all this bull bickering over what they are trying to say and enjoy the damn song; cake is good enough for all of us to enjoy in a diffrent way. lets keep the hidden meanings and what not to a minimum :)
@sirxlanceatwat Come on man! First of all it may just me, but i would consider this discussing. Secondly, do people not try to interpret the true meaning in many great works of art throughout history? For example, you don't just read a book without understanding what it is saying, or at least what it means to you. I understand that you can just enjoy music, but right know there are people going past the music and into a deeper meaning, and that is NOT something to be looked down upon.
This song is about how even though it looks like you or a person is about to crash and burn, nothing is further from the truth. Do you think the bird was afraid of hitting the pavement? Not hardly. It also speaks to the fact that in order to realize this, you must have the correct perspective. simple stuff really.
not that simple. you ignored the chorus. it's pointing out that some people take those constructs to an extreme level and grow massive (mastodon-sized) constructs from simple coincidences in everyday life.
it is possible to interpret music in many ways, that is true, but the artist's intent is generally not nearly so broad. although if there is a band that would intentionally give you a lot to argue about intentionally, cake is certainly one. i love me some cake.
It's about how his life seems to be spiraling out of control, and there's nothing he can do to fix it. But if he gets up and changes his perspective, he can see and understand.
This song has nothing to do with drugs juggalodere.
I have friends that often pretend to be alone in order to get attention and because of this I fear what they might do if I don't help them.
Mastodon was a tusked mammal species that went extinct 11,000 years ago.
Swatches originally meant second watch.
"They cut swatches out of all material" to me means people will abuse the kindness of others in order to feel like they are not alone. This is all very deep, not random drug behavior. Love Cake
i didn't say it was random. i said it was definitely influenced by some sort of drugs, and i'm sure it was. people who can write incredible stuff while intoxicated tend to do so with great frequency, and i'm sure that cake isn't a little straightedge pansy group.
i know what the hell a mastodon is.
and thats only in reference to Swatch company(only existant since the 80s), which anyone could find on wikipedia. swatch is a much older term used for samples of knitting. i'll have to message you.
lol. you ever listen to tech9? or twiztid? i have had this account since 04. if they didn't still have something worth listenting to, i would have changed my account.
btw, i can really grasp a lot of shit. you should try freeing your mind. (although i completely understand your comment. juggalodereliction however is quite a bit deeper than you give it credit for. there are several ways to construe it. why don't you do some research and tell me what you think after that.)
Just a quick note... swatches usually means (and I think in this case means) a sample or fragment cut out of a whole. Most often, I've heard it used to mean either samples of paint (or other colors) or a swatch of fabric.
Great record! There's no need to have the car turned upside down; no need to protect yourself here, there's a complete system to prevent sexual turning, don't come in all turned...
this is a good song to roll out of bed to in the morning. try it.

Cakes music is in no way associated with "stoners" it's just a new different type of music that deals with everyday life and nonsense.
