  • Watched this test footage around xmas when I was shopping for a Camera. Was impressed so much by the clean skyline shots purchased the HF G10 myself. Shot a independent feature and am very happy with the results. Question for other HF G10 owners. What frame rate do you prefer? I've found that the 24p movie mode has a bit of motion blur so I shoot everything at 30p. Click my user name to access my channel and feature trailer.

  • well done, excellent work, love this video on Tower Bridge

  • That piano is so glamorous:) Who's Playing, are you a professional videographer?

  • @creativereinvestor its a downloaded music.....

  • amazing

  • @LeinadNesterbegne thanks

  • that's really really good quality

  • @MrTinoTomotomo Thanks for watching and comments....

  • Excellent video ! London is :) :o ...may you please public the original video file (dropbox, Etc). I downloaded through keepvid at 1080p but would like to see full quality, then thinking to buy it. Regards

  • @josealberto1975 please let me know the dropbox if u have one and I can share the original.... thanks for watching

  • @imananthakumar i totally felt in love with this video...thanks for sharing it with the world.beautiful music.

  • hey man i was wondering if that is the real deal in you tube in full hd or is it better quality once you view video after you taken video into you pc cuz it looks a bit fuzzy even when i pressed 1080p so i wa wondering is it because of convertation or is that the real actual video quality ?

  • Is this Camera compatible with Mac OS X??

    nice video btw.

  • @deivasid : thanks

  • Great. Beautiful video.

  • @jp10IamMeNotU : thanks mate

  • Hi have you bough an sd memory card ofr it yet? if so which brand and size. I just got one of those cameras myself. Thanks I subcribed to you btw. Good Job

  • @gijoao7 Thanks for watching. I have bought sandisk 16gb Class 10 which is very good. I am not advertising sandisk but I have also tried a cheap transcend 16 gb class 10 but its so unreliable that the videos that I shoot were some times non readable. So please stay away from cheap memory cards. Please check the amazon link for sandisk that I have ordered. I received class 10 from the link amazoncouk/gp/product/B0037FLUYU

  • Amazing. I have this camera too and I'm just waiting for my new PC to arrive so I'll be able to start editing. Canon has done a really impressive work with low-light performances on a device that - we have to remember - is still a (high end) consumer camera.

  • This is the nicest video I've found a few weeks ago when I was looking for some footage from HF G10. It truly shows the awesome abilities of this fantastic camcorder. Thank you Imanan for sharing it!

  • @romanzz : you are welcome.....and thanks for the comments

  • Really nice on 1080p!

  • @Ecwjr007 this camera doesn't have 1080p - only 1080i

  • @Hobott : it does have 1080P @ 24 / 25 / 30 FPS.... if you need more frames then you have to reduce to 720P @ 60i

  • nice CANON really works on the CMOS for low light, my CANON vixia HF S200has alot of noise in the picture with this type of lighting.

  • good colours. very sharp in low light. no noise. impressed.

  • @markohila: thanks forwatching and comments

  • I was shooting on 24P, I have just converted the AVCHD to h264 while rendering and maintained the same framerate from the camera which is 24P

  • sorry to my first question I realise from your heading that you uploaded in 24p. What was the camera mode you were shooting on?

  • @kiwanbcn: 550D is good buy. AFAIK it doesnt make much difference with 7D in terms of video. basically its good to choose a fixed F-stop lens for video. Most of the normal lens vary from f3.5-6.0(kit lens) depending on the zoom, which is not good for video. A prime lens with f1.8 gives good video quality in low light but you have to move yourself with the camera back and forth as prime lens fixed focal length like 35mm or 50 mm. Tamron AF 17-50mm F/2.8 is a low cost good lens which i can sugst

  • I apologize if this has already been answered but I still don't understand how you uploaded this to YouTube in its native format because my understanding is that the format the G10 records in in 1080 24p mode is AVCHD which is not, according to my understanding, a format YouTube supports. So, how did you get this on YouTube?

  • @jasperedwards81: yes, its AVCHD from camera. But I have edited the clips and rendered to 1080P h.264 in to upload into youtube. Thanks for watching.

  • @imananthakumar

Which programm You used for editing en rendering?

  • @profmul: adobe premier, magic bullets and cine form for converting, 4:2:0 MTS to 4:2:2: avi.....

  • Nice video. Nice camera.

  • @myutubespace123: thanks for the comments

  • What does the feature "double-shot" do? Can it record in the internal HD and also record in the SDXC card simultaneously (so I get a backup of the same footage during filming?)?

  • @SimonCU: Its close to what you have mentioned. It allows you to record to two SD cards simultaneously, so you can have an automatic safety backup as you shoot. But I am not sure if it will allow you to shoot in internal memory and SD card at the same time. I will test this functionality and will post shortly.

  • What mode are you using? Great video! :)

  • @soffaslitern1: its native 24P, MXP 24 mbps, 1/60 shutter and F2.8.... 0 db gain

  • damn at 1:19 very crisp video

  • @BillieJean900: Thanks for watching

  • Loved the video. What music is this ?

  • @meridianmoda Various Artists

    Song: Shoreline

  • good

  • @letters2all: Thanks for watching and comments

  • what settings did you used ?

  • @DesmosediciAlice its native 24P, MXP 24 mbps, 1/60 shutter and F2.8.... 0 db gain

  • @imananthakumar i forgot to ask did you do any color correction or is it a raw file ? im thinking buying this camera for christmas

  • @DesmosediciAlice: No color correction in this video. its straight out of cam. I have uploaded another video shot in lake district with some color grading. Please take a look.

  • @DesmosediciAlice You'll want to color grade the G10 footage, I shot in cinema mode and found it's similar to a Picture style - Flat in DSLR cameras. Which is good because that allows more detail to be retained in post editing. It just doesn't have the range of true RAW image would give you.

  • @JediFarce: i never use the cinema mode as its not for post.... its there in the cam only for amature videos to add some effect..... check my other video (lake district) which I shot in the manual mode and color graded in post..... it has enough definition to do basic HD video grading..... you can use cine form to convert the sampling space from 4:2:0 to 4:2:2 to give better color grading....

  • @imananthakumar You might want to try the standard cinema mode as it takes the edge off video (and turn down the contrast -2), its simliar to the Cinestyle developed by Technicolor Canons DSLR picture style for flat recording. The advantage of using the cinema mode is to retain the details for color grading in post. I'll probably do a video on it in a couple of months.

  • Hello ananth, can i ask you a question about the video camera? how does it work in an extreme low light condition? i have to record a indoor kart race and i am founding low light conditions. Do it record well, with out breakage the image with pixels?

    thanks

    ivan from barcelona

    kiwanbcn@hotmail.com

  • @kiwanbcn: hi Ivan..... this cam is good in low light.... but you cant compare with professional large sensor cameras..... for ex ample 5D mark ii has very great low light performance..... I can understand your situation where you need fast focus and kind of point and shoot nature cam..... i would recommend 7D for your situation provided you can buy additional rigs as it got 19 AF points which makes focus really fast for your situation......

  • @imananthakumar hello ananth thanks for the information, i had the opportunity to buy one canon eos 550d and i buy it. Can you please give another good advice? I understand the 5d or 7D would be a better choice but i am not professional and i couldn't buy it they are expensive.

Can you please tell me which lend would you buy to work with it in the situation that i told you i would work? to record in an indoor karting

    Thanks

  • @kiwanbcn: 550D is good buy. AFAIK it doesnt make much difference with 7D in terms of video. basically its good to choose a fixed F-stop lens for video. • @kiwanbcn Believe it or not the 5D is not expensive when compared to the video rig, external monitor, follow focus rig, L lenses, fluid video head, tripod, etc. By comparison it's cheap.

  • @JediFarce : did you mean 5D is expensive with all this extra fittings requred to shoot even a basic vieo....

  • @kiwanbcn When compared to DSLRs it can't function in extreme low light. I used it when they've turned off the lights at our skating rink, while the G10 tried to compensate for the low exposure, by brightening the scene, it left the footage unusable by running a very low shutter speed appearing as if I were doing a stop-motion video. Manually adjusting the exposure didn't work either, footage just looked ugly, again was unusable. This tells me the ISO range of the G10 is not good.

  • @JediFarce: in my experience the G10 ISO is better than any other cam in its range..... cannot compare to DSLR low light because of the sensor size.... and no lights in ice rink i would imagine a total dark place where even a pro cameras struggle to capture..... corerct me if wrong....

  • @imananthakumar The advantage is of course is the high ISO and that you can mount an F1.2 lens to a DSLR which gives you night vision without having to go into the infared spectrum which I remember being touted by someone using the XA10 - which is bascially a more fancy G10 camcorder.

  • @JediFarce ya interchangable lens is a huge advantage by which DSLR's drawing attention for film making

  • Hi Ananth, this is a great video, congratulations on a well put together movie :)

Can I ask, what software editing program did you use?

    Thanks :) E.

  • @sooupdragon thanks for watching and comments..... i have used premier for the cuts

  • @imananthakumar thanks :) I hope you make some more chilled out videos :)

  • Very clear video and the music was the perfect touch for it. Great job. Im going to buy this camera and wanted to see how it performs, i can tell its one of the best.

  • @Luiey : thanks for watching and comments.....

  • thank u that really help me out a lot love your videos hope to c more of ur videos from the g10 shoot in 24p keep up the good work and god bless

  • I like this movie which has good taste with suitable nice music. It's really good.

  • @InfosJapan: Many thanks for the comments

  • which one should i get the canon vixia hf g10 or the canon 7d

  • @tnasty357: it depends on what you wanna do. if you are not a hard core video maker or if you are expecting home users to use your cam then you should get g10. 7D will be definetly better in quality but you have to invest much more on tripod, view finder extensions, lens, huge memory cards, and anti shock stabilizers like shoulder mount tripids or similar.you just cant take the 7D out of bag and start shooting. for holiday trip videos 7D is not suitable. but for short film makind 7D is best.

  • @imananthakumar My main camera is a 5D. I recently purchased the G10 to film an ice skating Christmas show. Pulling focus & the range I was shooting from would've been impossible even with my video rig setup. After a few weeks using the G10 I noticed cinema mode is akin to technicolors Cinestyle. Meaning it needs to be color graded. I wished the contrast setting could be set lower than -2. Though a good low light shooter it gets confused & starts to stutter in exposure shifts.

  • @JediFarce : thanks for watching.... i agree with you...... but afterall its not a pro camcoder......

  • I have the Canon 7D and just love it! I just ordered the HF G10 too! I don't mix picture taking with taking videos on one camera.

  • Great video! Hardly any shake!

  • @EKMurakami : thanks very much for watching and comments

  • Is the camera naturally more wide-angle than 16:9, or was this video matted?

  • @ReligiousZombie: This is a mated video. But still the cam lens is wider than any other comsumer camcorder.

  • I am looking for a camera, this looks great! Thing is i know nothing about cameras, is there much difference between this and the canon gl2? As i see the canon gl2 is cheaper, but can it compare? And make video like this?

  • @Gabsterino The canon gl2 is a great standard camcorder, this canon hf g10 an hd camcorder.gl1and gl2 is used in many independant movies. It uses 3 ccd but it used dv tapes and will not record in 24fps, 60i. I think from forums the gl2 can mimic 24 fps but not quite. I too am comparing the two.

  • @obsidiansugar : Thanks for the reply.

  • @Gabsterino @Gabsterino: this HF-G10 is good with respect to its sensor size. the sensor used in this cam is a size equalent to the sensors used in the professional models. Thus the very good performance in the low light. I am not sure if gl2 can make a good video like this but this cam known to be the best low light performer ever in the consumer model. And this records in the inbuilt and it can be extended by 2 slots of sdxc memory card.

  • wow. great film and I cant believe how staedy your hands are!! You have a built in steady cam! Tower Bridge looks stunning and I love the choice of music...so often its a wee bit irritating. Get your tripod out and do some more stuff quickly...I ll be watching for sure.

  • @arfurlife thanks very much. I will definitly make some with some tripod. My fluid head manfreeto 700RC2 is on the way

  • Oh, dear goodness the music is BAD (synthesized ocean waves)!!!

Camera is pretty good (just bought one). I'm disappointed with low light ability--maybe because it's over-hyped. Still looks like a consumer camera even though it's probably at the top of the range. Lens quality could be better as well--some color flaring. Possibly, the consumer stuff is getting so good (or hyped up) that I unfairly expect professional results. Good camera though!

  • @SLOBoe: You are right its no where near professional cam in the low lights, but its the best Consumer cam low light performance i have ever seen. I have compared with some footage that I have shot with sony pmw ex3 and it had lot more definition than this G10. Sorry for the music, just mixed the one that was available in the top of my explorer window. This is a US model Vixia

  • @imananthakumar How did you get 25p from a US model? Do you feel low light is better than Sony's back-lit 'Exmor' technology? Exmor is a brilliant idea from Sony. Perhaps Canon beats out Sony due to the native resolution sensor? I wonder if a native Exmor sensor would be better still.

You got much better low light capture than I did at my local rail yard at night. However, there appears to be significant dusk sky light in your capture whereas my shot was at night and has significant noise.

  • @SLOBoe : is not 25P its 24P. As u said EXMOR is brilliant Idea, but still the canon G10's sensor size 1/3 makes the cam to capture more light which out performs any other cam coder in lowlight. More over I have never seen a noise less video even after 10DB-12 DB gain but the hf g10 video do capture a noise less video after 10 db gain.

  • @imananthakumar 24P. Got it. Think I was confusing other comments. Sorry about that. I will experiment more with manual settings on my G10. Thanks for the inspiration!

  • @SLOBoe : Thanks for watching. Though being a consumer cam, it had enough data definition for color grading. Please watch my other videeo where I have done some color grading

  • @imananthakumar I will watch. I've become interested lately in REC 709 levels. NTSC legal is 16-235, though most consumer cameras seem to shoot 16-255. The (Sony) x.v.Color mode (in the G10) states it can create "over saturated" non-legal colors. Uploads to YouTube and many computer players are unpredictable as to what range is honored. Not sure if x.v.Color mode is a good/bad idea to use yet--whether it truly extends output range or simply over-saturates. More tests needed...

  • @imananthakumar REC 709 continued... Most web cams and cell cameras shoot 1-255. It's really important to know what your camera shoots and how to maintain levels to the playback device (1-255 for computer, 15-235 for video). Otherwise your blacks end up gray, or the opposite--crushed and over-contrasted.

  • @SLOBoe : you are right about the color range, but the xvYCC (xvColor) standard allows chroma values from 1 to 254 which is broader range. More over this in G10 can be used only for playback via HDMI to a xvcolor standard LCD TV. Else its of no use upto my knowledgee because its not going to pass through the NLE software or to DVD/DB burning software. If you switch it on its simply there but of no use.

  • Hi,

nice work - what shutter speed did you use?

    Emmerich

  • @pendlfilm i have used 25P app 2.8 shutter 1/60

    thanks for watching

  • @imananthakumar 25P? I presume that is a UK model? US offers 60i, 30P and 24P.

  • @SLOBoe : This is US model Vixia. I shot in 24P

  • @imananthakumar I was shooting 30p. I will have to compare to 24p for low light, but likely will continue 30p to preserve NTSC/DVD compatibility. Thanks!

  • @pendlfilm i have used 25P app 2.8 shutter 1/60

    thanks for watching

  • Fantastic!

Try shooting on an overcast day as well and see if how that gets captured.

though having a tripod would have certainly polished your effort. But well done!
