@craymeloftime No. Very rarely in fact. Other than certain members doing individual photoshoots in bikinis, AKB as a whole usually only wear Bikinis once a year for the video to their summer song( which is nearly always set on the beaches of Guam).

I believe this and most of the other pool-set bikini performances you'll find were from 3 episodes of Shukan AKB a few years ago, where they were doing swimming competitions and such.

For the most part they're selected by the management, but once a year they have an election where fans can vote for the girls included in the next single. They also have a yearly Janken (rock paper scissors) tournament to determine the members for a single.

It's not necessarily the cutest girls, but the Senbatsu is usually the most popular girls plus girls that Management wants to promote for some reason.
