  • is it compatible with .mts

  • Dear Matt,

I know I just left a message, but.

I just opened up fcpx, and all my files are damaged!

    Please help!

  • Dear Matt,

No, this has nothing to do with the video,

    but anyways,

I didn't have a computer for a while, luckily, my camera has a big memory.

But now, when I import, allot of the files are damaged.

    Do you have any tips?

  • awesome vid

  • Matt- If you wouldn't mind, please make more Final Cut Pro X Color Correction Videos. I just switched from iMovie 11 to Final Cut Pro X and Motion and I think that the color correction in iMovie is way better. I think that I think that because I don't know how to use the color correction as well as everything else. So change my mind about Final Cut Pro X's color correction, if you would.

  • Now lets see if it works with games

  • How can I add a time lapse sky to a shot like this?

    Great work by the way!!!!

  • Great video keep up the good work.

  • If you want correct blues in sky use a circular polarizer on your camera and turn it until you get the right tones.

  • First off.. Thanks for this tutorial. You're awesome!

    I have some questions..

Does the quality get sharper with wider aperture?

Cause seriously, i can't get that sharp look as eg. You & Freddiew gets with your DSLR.

    I use the t2i.

Got any tips and tricks on how to get a good raw quality (sharpness etc.) with the DSLR?

  • nice can you do this in iMovie?

  • can you show us how to make freeze time effect

  • this is really cool, this is my first time seeing you can do color correction to video similar like doing color correction in photoshop.

  • Thanks for doing this Tutorial Matt, if in the future could you do more videos on Color Correcting your videos with FCPX? Keep up the great videos!

  • That looks like it could be a cool HDR looking scene. Is there a way you can duplicate the look of HDR in Final Cut?

  • Cool thanks

  • Excellent work, Matt! I'm really loving these tuts. Keep it up!

  • Matt, I'm curious about the way in which you shoot with your Canon, whether you leave the white balance on and the ISO on auto. With my Canon T2i, I have a Minolta to Canon adapter for my manual lenses I used years ago. WIth manually changing aperture the ISO adjusts with auto, obviously. I'm curious to know how you made (with ISO/WB, etc.) the vertical pan starting @3:42, the clip from "Our Home" (and the clip of the old truck). Thanks. Enjoying the vids!

  • @viajmo I usually set my ISO manually as I don't trust the auto to always pic the right look. For white balance I leave it in auto and adjust it in post if needed most of the time, but occasionally use the manual setting to dial in the right Kelvin. I use a variable ND filter as well so I get full control and am not stuck using an aperture/ISO that I don't want.

  • Why didn't you use a polarize filter?

  • Some motion5 tutorials :)?

  • im making a home movie justlike you did, and this helped me out alot, with my dull skys on the day i was shooting on, Thanks so much man :)

  • New to FCP X and this level of video editing this is pure magic.

People must watch this and wonder why their world is not as colorful as Matt's world.

    It's magic.

  • what is an ND filter?

  • Where have all the Mac videos gone?

  • Matt do you like final cut pro X? And how did you get your dock like that?

  • Hey mr. I know all about cameras 0:10 or so is a tilt not a pan. Pans are left to right or right to left. Bty

  • could you make a tutorial for after effects to only show one color right and all the other colors black/white? It could be very useful for me! Like you do at 1:38 but in after effects

  • Comment removed

  • Thanks for making all these Post-Production videos Matt. They will be very useful for me in the future when I get back into videomaking. They're so useful that I feel like I need to favorite them so I'm able to refer back to them later on. Keep up the great work!

  • Wow you live in a really laid back area. Not meaning to sound like a creeper but out of pure curiosity wat state u from?

  • @spacekid407 This was filmed on my parents' farm in Louisiana.

  • @MattsMacintosh O I thought it was somewhere in the midwest. Nice videos though, keep up the good work!

  • @spacekid407

    Creeper. lol

  • @poprocz Yeah i gettt that aaallooooottttttttttt hahahaha jk

  • You should work with Freddie Wong's team!

  • Matt, do you use ND filters on your camera?

  • @ShakeAndBakeGuy Yes. Its a must if you want to shoot outdoors with wide aperture.

  • Could you do a video on colour correction in IMovie?

  • I'm having problems trying to import the footage from my canon t3i, and I was wondering how you import it.

  • @MattsMacintosh Hey Matt, i downloaded FCPX a week ago and it's running really slow. I deleted some really heavy programs such as Adobe Dreamweaver and other adobe products but STILL it's really slow and it's interfering with my work and it's really annoying. Do you have some suggestions ? It would help a lot.

    Thanks in advance

  • Matt bro you've really helped me in particular with stepping my videos' quality up lately and I just want to let you know that I really appreciate your help. My latest video is solely edited off things I've learned from your FCP X videos. It's only 53secs long "Beatbox Unboxing Sneak Peak" so please check it out.(would love your feedback) Your channel is listed in my "Inspiration Channels" section because you truly are like the only channel that's made me really want up my content. Thanks Bro

  • As always thanks for uploading ,, btw you should renovate that truck it's a CLASSIC !!

  • This is really helpful. Just what I was looking for. Thanks Matt !

  • People say that final cut pro X is not good. It's true but it's not really a faliure. This should have been Final Cut Express 2 or whatever would be the new version. But now, it was discontinued and ended up becoming a 3 1/2 star product.

  • @Webcast01 I agree. The problem was the expectations that went with the name. There are some people that used FCP 7 that simply can't use FCP X because of workflow issues. That being said, FCP X is an awesome program. Maybe they should have just called it iCut or something.

  • @MattsMacintosh Or maybe iMove Pro :D

  • @MattsMacintosh iCut :D

  • Coooool :] I've been using iMovie, but Final Cut's potential is phenomenal!! I just need about 500 of these kinds of tutorial videos and I should be set! ha ha

  • I really love that truck ;o

  • you can't do this without a tripod first of all. and you don't just put a letterbox mask on footage to get that "professional" look. It's an export setting.

  • @Aaalxndr First of all, a tripod has nothing to do with it. The second shot, for example could have been all hand held and it wouldn't have mattered. Second, "professional" probably was a bad word for the letterbox, should have said "stylized". That being said using the mask is definitely better for my audience as my tutorials are intended for YouTubers and YouTube converts 2.35:1 footage to 16x9 anyway, and in using this method people can keep their timeline settings the same.

  • @Aaalxndr There are many other advantages to using the mask as well, for example a video like this where I used both 16x9 and 2.35:1. Even when I do export in 2.35:1 I use the mask to position all my footage correctly to make sure nothing gets chopped off.

  • @Aaalxndr What the hell would using a tripod have to do with anything? Last time I checked that doesn't change the color of the sky. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.

  • this is more like post-production editing... calling it color correction isn't accurate.. just my 2 cents

  • @xmeerzx I'd call it "color grading" if I had to pick, but since it used the color correction menu in FCP, I used that for the sake of consistency.

  • Would you recommend FCPX to people who have been using iMovie 11 ?

  • @1BBL5 I made that exact switch and I'm lovin' it! At first I thought it was really hard, mostly because a lot of the familiar controls of iMovie had changed position or made more advanced. Watching a few tutorials here on YouTube really helped and now I know FCPX inside out. Being an iMovie user for years and feeling it was too limited, FCPX is just awesome. So go for it! :)

  • @icecubemovies Thanks, this really helped.

  • @MichaelsMac7 There are a thousand reasons, but I could sum it all up by saying "control".

  • Thanks Matt!!!

  • I love watching your videos in fullscreen. It feels like your controlling my 27" iMac

  • What format do you export in in Screenflow?

  • Matte tell me please I bought a camera Sony a55 but I always see that people who makes the videos and movies using canon cameras like 60d 5d mark2 etc what do you think is it good camera for filmmaking or should I buy another canon camera? And why are they better (canon cameras)?

  • @FullHD911 Its not that the Canon cameras are better, its just that some people prefer the greater control they give you. For example, I wouldn't shoot with an A55 because it doesn't do 24fps. To other people, that's not as important.

  • Matt can you point me to a website where I can get started with final cut x. I am

Proficient with iMovie but am having a hard time moving to finalcut x. I just need to know a few tips to get me started. Thanks for a great video again.

  • Did my mom give you permission to take a picture of her car?

  • Thank you for this!!!!

  • Hey can you do a video on how to take something out of a clip and replace the item with something else?

  • Another helpful video Matt! I love your style!

  • Awesome video Matt! Would love to see one on picture styles like technicolor here - I don't really understand them and would love to be able to use them to my advantage like you do!

  • can you show color correction in after effects please

  • QUIT COMPLAINING ABOUT APPLE AND FINAL CUT PO X, PEOPLE!!! i was like that at first but then i thought to myself Apple as a company knows what their doing. they have never disappointed anyone with any of their products.. FCP X will be a software for Hollywood too just let more software updates come out people THIS IS version 1 of the software and look at FCP 7 where did that begin from? just take a chill pill an calm yourselves

  • awesome man. Similar steps to final cut pro 7 i assume?

  • @NJDevilfan26 Like most things, its actually a lot easier in FCP X

  • your videos give upset final cut users some hope.

  • you have mail

  • im on IMovie 11'?!

  • great tutorial as always

  • thank you very much!!! I tryed using that tool on a video and did not know how to us it... now I do... THANKS AGAIN

  • Once again, bro excellent video. When you finally go to film school....... YOUR GONNA BE THE ONE TEACHING!!!!!!! :-) Great job Matt as always you never disappoint me.

  • Always love your videos. I want to add effects to my videos with Final Cut X what should I use for gun fire, explosions type stuff ?

  • is there a way to do this with iMovie '11?

  • Awesome video! This tutorial could definitely come in handy. Also, would you recommend the sigma lens?

  • @logicallytechnology I would recommend it if you are on a budget. There are better wide angles out there if you've got some more money to spend.

  • Matt how do i rotate a video in Final Cut X ?

  • @v3511 Use The Transform Tool under the viewer

  • You are really liking Final Cut X aren't you?

  • @guidobertisch2 Yeah, its great. It just takes a little while to get accustomed to the interface.

  • Great video Matt, as always! That entire shot would make for a great photo!

  • Very Helpful!

  • Great video

  • @2Girls1Tom If you're going to insult something, at least get the insult correct.

  • Is there a way to make a video widescreen in iMovie11?

    Someone answer plz :)

  • @salman6896 wen u make a new project choose 16:9 ratio

  • @salman6896 Actually yeah. But it's not very good. Either you crop the video, or search for "iMovie letterbox" here on YouTube. I belivie there's a guy with a good tutorial on that.

  • thank you!

  • Awesome! Thanks Matt.

Thanks for making so many new video recently. Your videos are always great!

  • first epic! sorry im gonna get crap for that

  • And Matt, I had a question. I just wanted to know, since some people say FCP7 is a lot more featured than FCPX, which is more worth the money, FCPX or FCP 7 Express?

  • First! BTW Could you do a color correction tutorial in iMovie '11? This was interesting but I don't have enough money for FCPX so I use iMovie '11. Could you please? Thanks Matt! :-)

  • @DiegoDoesTech Oh wait, nevermind I am not first. oh well. :-)
