Matt- If you wouldn't mind, please make more Final Cut Pro X Color Correction Videos. I just switched from iMovie 11 to Final Cut Pro X and Motion and I think that the color correction in iMovie is way better. I think that I think that because I don't know how to use the color correction as well as everything else. So change my mind about Final Cut Pro X's color correction, if you would.
Matt, I'm curious about the way in which you shoot with your Canon, whether you leave the white balance on and the ISO on auto. With my Canon T2i, I have a Minolta to Canon adapter for my manual lenses I used years ago. WIth manually changing aperture the ISO adjusts with auto, obviously. I'm curious to know how you made (with ISO/WB, etc.) the vertical pan starting @3:42, the clip from "Our Home" (and the clip of the old truck). Thanks. Enjoying the vids!
@viajmo I usually set my ISO manually as I don't trust the auto to always pic the right look. For white balance I leave it in auto and adjust it in post if needed most of the time, but occasionally use the manual setting to dial in the right Kelvin. I use a variable ND filter as well so I get full control and am not stuck using an aperture/ISO that I don't want.
could you make a tutorial for after effects to only show one color right and all the other colors black/white? It could be very useful for me! Like you do at 1:38 but in after effects
Thanks for making all these Post-Production videos Matt. They will be very useful for me in the future when I get back into videomaking. They're so useful that I feel like I need to favorite them so I'm able to refer back to them later on. Keep up the great work!
@MattsMacintosh Hey Matt, i downloaded FCPX a week ago and it's running really slow. I deleted some really heavy programs such as Adobe Dreamweaver and other adobe products but STILL it's really slow and it's interfering with my work and it's really annoying. Do you have some suggestions ? It would help a lot.
Matt bro you've really helped me in particular with stepping my videos' quality up lately and I just want to let you know that I really appreciate your help. My latest video is solely edited off things I've learned from your FCP X videos. It's only 53secs long "Beatbox Unboxing Sneak Peak" so please check it out.(would love your feedback) Your channel is listed in my "Inspiration Channels" section because you truly are like the only channel that's made me really want up my content. Thanks Bro
People say that final cut pro X is not good. It's true but it's not really a faliure. This should have been Final Cut Express 2 or whatever would be the new version. But now, it was discontinued and ended up becoming a 3 1/2 star product.
@Webcast01 I agree. The problem was the expectations that went with the name. There are some people that used FCP 7 that simply can't use FCP X because of workflow issues. That being said, FCP X is an awesome program. Maybe they should have just called it iCut or something.
Coooool :] I've been using iMovie, but Final Cut's potential is phenomenal!! I just need about 500 of these kinds of tutorial videos and I should be set! ha ha
you can't do this without a tripod first of all. and you don't just put a letterbox mask on footage to get that "professional" look. It's an export setting.
@Aaalxndr First of all, a tripod has nothing to do with it. The second shot, for example could have been all hand held and it wouldn't have mattered. Second, "professional" probably was a bad word for the letterbox, should have said "stylized". That being said using the mask is definitely better for my audience as my tutorials are intended for YouTubers and YouTube converts 2.35:1 footage to 16x9 anyway, and in using this method people can keep their timeline settings the same.
@Aaalxndr There are many other advantages to using the mask as well, for example a video like this where I used both 16x9 and 2.35:1. Even when I do export in 2.35:1 I use the mask to position all my footage correctly to make sure nothing gets chopped off.
@Aaalxndr What the hell would using a tripod have to do with anything? Last time I checked that doesn't change the color of the sky. You obviously have no idea what you are talking about.
@1BBL5 I made that exact switch and I'm lovin' it! At first I thought it was really hard, mostly because a lot of the familiar controls of iMovie had changed position or made more advanced. Watching a few tutorials here on YouTube really helped and now I know FCPX inside out. Being an iMovie user for years and feeling it was too limited, FCPX is just awesome. So go for it! :)
Matte tell me please I bought a camera Sony a55 but I always see that people who makes the videos and movies using canon cameras like 60d 5d mark2 etc what do you think is it good camera for filmmaking or should I buy another canon camera? And why are they better (canon cameras)?
@FullHD911 Its not that the Canon cameras are better, its just that some people prefer the greater control they give you. For example, I wouldn't shoot with an A55 because it doesn't do 24fps. To other people, that's not as important.
Matt can you point me to a website where I can get started with final cut x. I am
Proficient with iMovie but am having a hard time moving to finalcut x. I just need to know a few tips to get me started. Thanks for a great video again.
Awesome video Matt! Would love to see one on picture styles like technicolor here - I don't really understand them and would love to be able to use them to my advantage like you do!

I didn't have a computer for a while, luckily, my camera has a big memory.
But now, when I import, allot of the files are damaged.

If you want correct blues in sky use a circular polarizer on your camera and turn it until you get the right tones.

First off.. Thanks for this tutorial. You're awesome!
I have some questions..
Does the quality get sharper with wider aperture?
Cause seriously, i can't get that sharp look as eg. You & Freddiew gets with your DSLR.
I use the t2i.
Got any tips and tricks on how to get a good raw quality (sharpness etc.) with the DSLR?

this is more like post-production editing... calling it color correction isn't accurate.. just my 2 cents
