the PS3 blows the air out of the back. Using a bigger fan to blow air towards the back of the ps3 will stop proper air flow and cause the PS3 to overheat. Air contitioning at 18 dagreese is more than enough
wtf man,are u joking or what,it's like without a ps3 you just can't live so you're doing your best to prevent it from overheating, come on,you gotta be kidding me,it's just a fucking ps3 system man,go out and get a life rather than sticking ur ass playing video games and paying an extremely high electricity facture,damnnnn,3 words, get a life

Lmao, you have a fan blowing at the back of your PS3 blowing the hot air back into it! What the heck. I understand the other coolers, but whats with the big ass fan?
View my channel for a STEP BY STEP guide on how you can FIX YOUR PS3 in less than an hour! WITHOUT the need for Heat Guns, Voiding your Warranty, or wasting any of your TIME or MONEY!
doesn't the ps3 collect air from the front and blow the air out from the back ? and would defeat the purpose of blowing cool air to the back of the console ?
yes, you prolly got the YLOD because the hot air wasnt able to exit the ps3 with a fan facing and blocking the ps3's air-exit, but not because of the dust x3
i know a way whens is a windy cold day when you playing your ps3 leave all the windows oen for the cold wind to come in and your ps3 will get little warm not hot but warm i try this before
booooo lam as shit. worship god not the freakin ps3. when the time for tribulation comes that dang ps3 won't send you to heaven. ROMANS 10 read this and you shall learn!!!
Wow dude, I clean my PS3 as I do all of my belongings and take care of them really well. However, this is just sad that you do all that just to keep your system "cooler". You show a weakness, worship towards a technology. lOl How about getting some fresh air yourself and get outside besides worrying about how hot your system is.
not very cost effective based on number of fans you bought just for this and the A/C running, your bills are spiking and you need so much room for all this, i just put a big hole in the bottom and stuck a 120mm arctic cooling fan on the bottom forcing air into the original ps3 fan (can't use it horizontal, only vertical from now on) and it most likely stays colder than your set up.. yes i know i void my warranty and i don't give a crap, they probably won't ship me back a 60gb original anyways.
most of us search these topics when we're all pissed off with said problem at hand, and usually during a game or movie. thanks for the chuckle. i stopped raging for a few minutes. JB
the external fan is NOT doing anything reason number 1: the clue is in the name EXTERNAL the fan needs to be inside the console to have an effect. reason number 2: the fan is blowing air TOWARDS the console and since its blowing towards the rear air vents its just trying to blow air back insidethe console. you should put the big fan right behind the cosole and face it so it sucks air away from it duuuuhhhh!!!! everyone knows tht, well cept u obviously
@amirahUITM thats if you dont follow the instructions if you put your ps3 slim in a small place of course it will over heat my ps3 slim is in a big place so it does not over heat :)
@09BIJAN09 Nah that'll make Ylod alot more likely. Infact some people leave it on for months so it's more used to the heat, PS3s work like computers. Ylod it caused if the PS3 is cold then goes extremely hot time over time until it finally happens.
@bloodstrike178 actually i never heard of that, even with pc's, i usually keep my pc at 40-50c and havent had problems o.o unless you mean if goes from hot to cold constantly
i drilled holes on the bottom mine where th fan sits so it could draw in cooler air. the fan is sealed and only pushes air out it cannot draw any outer air in as he mother board sits on top of it and the other side faces the bottom and the front is sealed off. so i drilled small holes around where the fan sits now you can feel it pull air in even hold a piece of paper, you can definitly feel the difference on the top of the unit.
This has also helped keep my Xbox 360 in tip top condition as well. The only time i ever had a problem with my Xbox 360 Elite was when my girlfriend accidentally knocked it over. Thankfully i was still under warranty, but other then that mishap i never had a problem with my Xbox360 using my below method.
Such a simple concept,it's just that a lot of people don't think of it because they are to lazy to employ it. They just play their systems without a care in the world, then wonder why it breaks.
to collect ALL and ANY dust that would otherwise touch the PS3 without the air purifier. Next step will sound ridiculous, but it makes a big difference. If it's not winter time use your AC. Make sure the temperature of the room your in is constantly cold. If you're cold then get dressed up/put on some blankets. The room NEEDS to be cold,so that a constant flow of cold air can ventilate through the hot PS3. The Air Purifier stops dust from forming. When not using PS3,COVER IT with a blanket ALWAYS
Not sure about anyone else, but this helped my PS3 live since LAUNCH DATE practically.
No joke when i tell everyone here that i still have my original "fat" 60gig CECHA model PS3 in brand new condition, despite the system being one of the first three models that were released. What's my secret?
Well i mean, not much. Just a bit of careful thinking, common sense and planning is required.
Make sure you have a Air Purifier unit near the PS3 when it's on at ALL TIMES. Have it running on full blast to
my ps3 got the ylod and i fixed it but didnt put thermal glue yet of coarse i will anyways after the fix it kept over heating so i put a fan like he did and tada it worked no more over heating.
*facepalms* Gimmicks are what increase the chances of the system crapping down on you. YLOD isn't caused by Overheating, it's caused by Thermal Compound.
@Tevoxzi yes...ery much true but the thermal compound only deforms itself after it has reached the intended normal heat capacity for up to two years....if the ps3 gets extremely hot, the level of heat exerted shortens the durability of the thermal paste and the ps3 will go bye bye :D
It's mainly due to the same effects as erosion, I think.
Out of "YLOD" cases, 90% are caused by thermal compound having crapped down on you and 10% are broken power supply units not giving enough power for the hardware to run but partially.
Both of the cases are quite "easy" to fix though. :)
THE HARD DRIVE IS TOO SMALL FOR THAT AMOUNT OF SPEED , ONE GUY THAT WORKS IN GAMESTOP TOLD ME THAT , BECAUSE OF THE HARD DRIVE BEING EASILY CHANGABLE , WARNING
O great! Now instead of a loud ass ps3, you've got a bunch of loud ass fans...... I LIKE IT!! Seriously! I'm not as distracted by the sound of a fan. as I am by my ps stage3 fan hair dryer.. 40gig.
ps3 are made well. i use my ps3 watching tv every day its 1 year and a 3 months old now with no problems. sony made sure the ps3 can take the heat of the chips in side the console. the one thing that kills chips is the heating up and cooling down process. the ps3 has been designed to work with 1 fan adding more fans can do more damage then good.
@sasrob28 No, more fans would make it cool even more. That is why the intercoolers help your consoles. That is also why 2 fans blowing on you would make you cooler than one fan.
@dhk620 umm... just cause you have a creative mind and like fixing things you dont have a life? wow assholes these days... so if you persay put an eraser on a pencil thats eraser isnt good enough your life is automatically dedicated to pencils? somebodys smart
If you want to know how to manually adjust the PS3's internal fan speed visit my website sudburymods > com. You can adjust the fan for max airflow and minimum noise and prevent overheating, YLOD etc.
I Have A B/C PS3 That Came With MGS 4. Now It Overheats. I Brushed The Vents Out Really Good Then I Vacuumed Everywhere, I Even Took Out The Hdd & Vacuumed In There. But The Damned Thing Still Overheats. My PS3 Is On A Wood Floor Standing In The Middle Of My Room. It Runs %80 Quieter Since I Brushed The Vents & Vacuumed It
@K60420 that doesnt matter the problem is ylod which is fixed by sony or you can do it yourself by opening your ps3 just look at videos on youtube "ps3 ylod fix".
@K60420 Thermal compound has prol gone bad and isnt doing its job id recommend changing it before your cpu and gpu fry. For some reason sony used some cheap shit that goes hard and fails after a while.
@Ru55ianGrim i drilled holes on the bottom mine where th fan sits so it could draw in cooler air. the fan is sealed and only pushes air out it cannot draw any outer air in as he mother board sits on top of it and the other side faces the bottom and the front is sealed off. so i drilled small holes around where the fan sits now you can feel it pull air in even hold a piece of paper, you can definitly feel the difference on the top of the unit.
yeah so let's go buy all this shit. 2 fans for ps3 then 1 normal fan then an air conditioning unit installed into my flipping room. hmmm add all of that together costs quite a lot and and an air conditioning unit???? that will cost loads and i don't even live in a hot country. and with the cost of this shit i could have probably got a new ps3! with much less hassle! yeah a found a air conditioning unit for ur wall in ur room for £400 more than a ps3 and that is just the unit. what a joke!
although im a true playstation fan,..i am not impressed with all these ps3 overheatings! my brothers 40gb is as loud as a muther! even though hes replaced the thermic paste and cleaned all the dust out!
@osamabinpawning123 its in the front of the ps3, but i have the ps3 on a thing 4 inches above ground and i point the fan under the ps3 so hot air goes away from the ps3. im not sure if it helps
i got an idea put a bag of ice wraped in a towl and put it ontop of the ps3 :) after a while the water will go through the towl and fuck up ur ps3 happy playing
Its great idea man. I did the same! I have an air conditioning in my room and small fan behind my Ps3. The room is so cold and my Ps3 doesn't make any sounds when I play for hours. Before it used to make sound like FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, after I put the an air conditioning and the fan. The sound no more is there!
CAN'T YOU GUY'S JUST PLAY THE PS3 FOR A LIMITED TIME EVERYDAY....LIKE, ONLY 3 HOURS A DAY. PS3 KILLS BRAINCELLS PEOPLE! AND THAT'S GOOD! OH NO!!!! PHYSICS HAS FAILED USSS!!! NOOOOOO
Talking about freezing your PS3, damn just put it in an open spot in your room and just put open window. Saves ALLOT of power. Compared to what u are doing ofcourse.
Like that much is really needed to cool a ps3. I have one in a room that's like a closet with almost no circulation and had it since launch date and it never overheats. What a loser.
@wiihome No it doesn't. The ps3 could be off for years. As soon as you turn it on, it will get loud. There is no dust trapped inside either. They purposely made a faulty system so you can waste more money and getting a new one.
I should have control of the fan, but it automatically goes loud and there is nothing you can do about it. If i were able to control it, it wouldn't break itself for just being turned on.
If you actually listen to those retards on the phone, then you must be retarded.
I really pisses me off, i understand its becuase its hot but i ruin the experience altogether when you try and play a game or watch a movie and a fucking 747 is taxing inside your ps3. My room is hot because of the fucking ps3 GRRRR
@madman778 XD My room so damn cold My ps3 is only thing keep me warm jk lol but seriously if you want your ps3 more quiter buy a ps3 slim or stay away from objects. and clean fans too. fans are the problem. you need to replace it or remove the dust.

yeah so let's go buy all this shit. 2 fans for ps3 then 1 normal fan then an air conditioning unit installed into my flipping room. hmmm add all of that together costs quite a lot and and an air conditioning unit???? that will cost loads and i don't even live in a hot country. and with the cost of this shit i could have probably got a new ps3! with much less hassle! yeah a found a air conditioning unit for ur wall in ur room for £400 more than a ps3 and that is just the unit. what a joke!

although im a true playstation fan,..i am not impressed with all these ps3 overheatings! my brothers 40gb is as loud as a muther! even though hes replaced the thermic paste and cleaned all the dust out!
but my 80gb is as silent as a fridge :)
gewizz2 1 year ago
@gewizz2 Fridge is not a good way to compare a PS3. It should be Silent as(of) like a (the) Lamb. :p

@MwFreezd u mean the front of the ps3?(the vents right infront of the eject button?
i was trying this and the back of the ps3 got kinda hot.....i dunno if it works can someone explain if it actually helps or damages it?
osamabinpawning123 1 year ago
@osamabinpawning123 its in the front of the ps3, but i have the ps3 on a thing 4 inches above ground and i point the fan under the ps3 so hot air goes away from the ps3. im not sure if it helps
MwFreezd 1 year ago
yea that helps spend fuckin 300 bucks on a huge air conditioner and leave it on 24/7
just buy a ps3 intercooler or stop playin so much!

My ps3 is like that when I’m playing! What can I do to stop it??
mikkel436 1 year ago
You really hate the sound when the ps3 fast up his fans.
ADASADALOL32 1 year ago
best thing you can do is if your going to play for long periods of time :
After 3 hours of playing turn your ps3 off for 15 minutes so it can rest.
have a fan on circulating the air by the ps3.
make sure your ps3's vents have atleast 4 inches ground.
WHATEVER YOU DO, DO NOT PUT YOUR PS3 ON THE CARPET.
look into a gaming system organizer, they will hold your ps3 inches above air, and it can organize your games.
also vaccum your ps3s vents to get rid of the dust inside/outside of ps3.
MwFreezd 1 year ago
Its great idea man. I did the same! I have an air conditioning in my room and small fan behind my Ps3. The room is so cold and my Ps3 doesn't make any sounds when I play for hours. Before it used to make sound like FAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA, after I put the an air conditioning and the fan. The sound no more is there!

Does the fan's wind even reach your PS3?
And dude, you only need one fan at the back of your system.
You don't even need to use the AC.
weichiang 1 year ago
Talking about freezing your PS3, damn just put it in an open spot in your room and just put open window. Saves ALLOT of power. Compared to what u are doing ofcourse.

omegaweapon123 1 year ago
Your doing it wrong! the rear is the exhaust, by putting that fan there u just caused the case to be cold and hot air to be trapped inside.
TakeItSideways 1 year ago
The money you'd spend fixing it will now be spent with energy consumption bills
kynigh 1 year ago
Like that much is really needed to cool a ps3. I have one in a room that's like a closet with almost no circulation and had it since launch date and it never overheats. What a loser.
SOJotacon 1 year ago
@SOJotacon just so you know... if the ps3 gets "loud", then its overheating...
wiihome 1 year ago
@wiihome No it doesn't. The ps3 could be off for years. As soon as you turn it on, it will get loud. There is no dust trapped inside either. They purposely made a faulty system so you can waste more money and getting a new one.
I should have control of the fan, but it automatically goes loud and there is nothing you can do about it. If i were able to control it, it wouldn't break itself for just being turned on.
If you actually listen to those retards on the phone, then you must be retarded.

@madman778 XD My room so damn cold My ps3 is only thing keep me warm jk lol but seriously if you want your ps3 more quiter buy a ps3 slim or stay away from objects. and clean fans too. fans are the problem. you need to replace it or remove the dust.
