  • your backfocus is not correct

  • Man, that guy sure can juggle balls...

  • price?

  • Your words are also true. Of course, it will look better with a 35mm adapter. I just bought a Letus 35mm to finish this project of mine. HD and 35mm adapter are the best things in video production. It's hard to picture the field without them. However, it's not the end of the world if you don't have a 35mm adapter. You can still manage to achieve a decent dof production without one.

  • Not even the 2/3" sensors on expensives cameras (nor Red one camera 17.500$) will deliver the same DOF of a 35mm camera. Zooming in, changing the aperture sounds good, but it's not the best solution. The cheapest way is to buy/build an DOF adapter! Nobody says you can't win a film festival if you're not using the hv20. Not all of us has the luxury to spend 17.500 on a camera. Be creative!

  • RED one camera will, it has a 35mm CCD and uses 35mm lenses.

  • The Canon 350D has a 1.6x crop factor. It won't achieve the same DOF of a fullframe camera because the sensor is smaller. The DOF ability of the lens will always be the same. It's all about the sensor's camera. You will say that DOF it's a property of the lens. It's true. The problem is how the image will be recorded. Large format cameras will deliver different DOF than 35mm cameras in the final image, no matter the DOF of the lens will always be the same!

  • you don't need the 35mm adapter to achieve DOF, u just have to know how to mess around with the manual focus and the zoom of the hv20. Also the autofocus button on the lcd. The reason why i'm getting the adapter is because it will make my camcorder look like a pro. haha And it's probably easier to get DOF.

  • LOL.. boy you really know what you're talking about.

  • Listen kid, I'll be posting a few new videos to show how it's possible. I just hate going through the trouble without a 35mm adapter.

  • Ok "kid" let me school you in your elementary knowledge. Achieving a very SMALL DOF look is done with APERTURE... since you probably don't know what an aperture or Fstop is you should read up. DOF is created with a LOW aperture ie.. F3.2. You can set a low F# and use a ND filter so the picture isn't over-blown.. .. As I stated before "lol boy you really know what you're talking about.

  • Oh now I understand...you must be a clown to be talking to a director about camera terms. The comment I left about the hv20 was for the individuals who does not realize the full functionality of their device, thus, it was blunt so to speak. What have you accomplish lately? A few home videos of yourself? lol I've done a lot more and have more experience in the film industry to know "what I'm talking about". Stop trying to make yourself sound vital by cut and pasting info you copied off the web.

  • it makes it look like film

    that's why i like it

  • This has got to be the best high quality footage of using a 35mm adapter with HV20

  • cool en crisse mon chum

  • never mind. I got the answer. (72mm-55mm-43mm)

  • can you tell which adapter ring you got to attach the M2 to the HV20? was it a 72mm to 43mm step down ring? or did you use more the two rings? such as 72mm to 52mm and then the 52mm to 43mm ring??

    thanks

  • i see some vignetting at the sunset video, why did that happen?

  • Because I didn't set the M2 up properly: I didn't zoom in far enough. There seems to always be SOME vignetting with the HV20+M2, but this footage is not indiciative of proper set-up. You should use an external monitor, since the HV20's LCD does overscan, and therefore doesn't show you the full image. You need to see the full image to ensure you have zoomed in far enough past the vignetting.

  • hey there... i have this camera and seeing what you did with yours makes me feel great! - i had to come back for a second viewing coz it is like a movie! I am intent on this 35mm adaptor from REDROCK or whomever. the thing is I can't find any links here in Australia for it!!! Did you just use the camera straight (no not talking about post production coz we can all do that) I mean with onboard video lens etc???

  • i dont understand why people just buy a hv20 and a dof adpater for doing their short films rather than some £3000 camera that wont benifit you alot if ur entering to film festivals... beauiful images, id love to see the full HD version

  • i want to buy a hv20 and an redrock m2 but when i go on the redrock website they offer a sd bundle or hd bundle which one did you have? please reply your help will be greatly appreciated thanks

  • HD bundle. You will need the shim kit. Not sure if it's included in the bundle or not--check.

  • Awesome footage! May I ask what lenses you used? I have just ordered my HV20 and am looking to purchase the M2 as well. Thanks.

  • Nikkor 180 2.8. Nikkor 50 1.4.

  • did you do any color correcting on this?

  • Minor CC, yes.

  • Very important--Please post a link to a photo of your rig. Thanks.

  • Really nice, thanks!

  • this is amazing! - thanks

  • what did you do to slow it down? this is dope.

  • it's real time, 24fps. nothing slowed down. just feels that way via editing and music.

  • man I got to get this combo... It's so great.

  • also needs the shimkit

  • THANK YOU

  • You can use step-up rings to adapt the HV20's filter thread to the M2's HD achromat lens.

  • hv 20 has a 43 mm so how can u use m2 adaptateur, please tell me.

  • What were you're compression settings before uploading to youtube. Everything looks spectacular. I haven't found a setting I'm happy with for things about 2 minutes long. Any help would be huge. I love the footage.

  • No way around the $1200...except to find one second-hand. They do come up for sale on dvxuser and ebay once in a while. But you're still looking at $900 at least probably.

  • I have an HV20 and would love to get such beautiful nature shots as you have in this clip. I really would not like to spend 1200 bucks though....any way around this? All the homemade 35mm adapters dont seem to get such awesome quality as this. Truly great stuff would love to see more!

  • Just amazing! that's all I can say... hope to see something else soon.

  • That's my husband.

  • cool, the guy with the beard is hot..... like HOT !

  • Yup. The M2 has been available for a year or two now. I think it costs about $1200. But you'd still have to buy lenses. You can check out the adapter over at the Redrockmicro website.

  • Amazing film look. Is the M2 adapter available as of yet? How much does it cost?

  • Awesome--like the mood, barely noticeable pan, wide shots, sky, water, and way it begins.
