The Dark Ages were a tough time for Christianity, but I wouldn't say low. At the end of the 4th century the Emperor Theodosius declared Christianity the official religion of the Roman Empire. As the next couple of centuries pasted & the world's climate literally got colder & darker, the Christian world found itself under attack from all sides. If not for the monasteries we might have lost all the history, science & philosophy of the ancient world. Perhaps Christianity's finest hour.
