David's Midnight Magic - Apple II - Gameplay

Had hours and hours on this incredibly enjoyable game with many of my friends, Thanks for posting. It's been over 14 years since I've last seen or played it (still have the Apple IIe and game in my attic).

Pinball Construction Set was terrible. For every object you added to game (flipper, rollover, bumper) the game played slowed donw proportionately.

David's Midnight Magic is still one of the best pinball game I've ever played on a PC.

Ever see what happened when you break a million???

Oh it's nothing special really but of the hundreds of games played by my friends and myself, it was only reached once by a neighbor of mine.

The game pauses and makes a bunch of noise and flashes for a few seconds. A red digit (1, in this case) then appears just to the left of the score to indicate a million.

You also get 2 additional balls, if my memory serves me well.

Unfortunately, I never actually saw "this game". My roommate took a photograph of the game just after my neighbor broke a million and I still have that photo.

Never saw a million again but some of us, including myself broke the 900,000 barrier a couple of times.

@PlayingWithHistory You get an orange "1" signifying the million; nothing other than that. I put a video up with a million+ score.

For years, whenever I'd read a review of a video pinball game, it would always mention how well it stacked up against the "fantastic" Dave's Midnight Magic.

Granted there probably weren't that many video pinball games back when DMM first came out, but even so, 2/3 of the table is bare. The ball spends more time bouncing around empty space than it does hitting anything.

It's like they forgot to add the bumpers.

Don't take my poor play in the video as any indication of this games true merit. I even forgot about the magnets and didn't use them in the game.

No, my comments were based on my own experiences of playing Dave's Midnight Magic on the C64 many years ago.

Of course by the time I got it, there were already other pinball games available, like Pinball Construction Set and Night Mission Pinball. Still, the table always seemed too bare to me.
