@czf21 I have 2 Corolla right now and never found something powerfull to put in tha hole to move those grandpamobiles. Excepted for suspension and ricey esthetic, there is nothing to do with a Toyota, even a Supra TT is very slow. I'ts litterally a boat weight and to have power from their engines, you have to put 2 huge windmills on it, which delivers his power 45 minutes after the drag race is ended in the other racing line beside...humble opinion from the guy who had many Toyotas...

See the thing is only the oil pump busted but when I had a gsr b18c1, (when I was young and dumb) i misshifted the the b18c1, i blew the head out on the first cylinder. so my point is that the 2zz motor is more durable. im not hating on hondas since i use to own one before it got stolen. these two motors are unique and u have to experience the 2zz before you say something. they are similar.
@w00t692 If you over-rev any engine you're looking for trouble. The problem with the oil pump in the 2ZZ is caused when you corner the car at over 1G while also keeping the revs above 6K or so. The oil pan in the 2ZZ isn't baffled so during a hard corner at high RPM you run the risk of having the oil pump suck in air because all the oil is pushed off to the side. This isn't a problem for a corolla XRS unless it has huge suspension upgrades. It is a problem for Elise and Exige owners.
@xoquixxoqafxo Toyota has tested their 2zz-GE motor to run at its redline for 12 hours + so no the engine isn't going to blow up "whenever they rev it past 6 grand".

I've driven this engine in a Matrix XRS. Loved the noise it made and pulls well but the high cam switchover occurs at 6700 so the powerband is much narrower than a K20 which engages at 6k. I realize this was a great motor for Toyota so why would they stop building it and replace it with a lazy camry engine?

To answer your question about why Toyota stopped building this thing is cause- They are fucking pussies. They are trying to get a greener image as well as the fact that The old Matrix/Corolla Xrs didn't sell worth a shit. I totally agree the 2az-fe is garbage, I bought a 2010 Matrix XRS and it was almost as slow as my 07 Civic LX not to mention it was a POS!!
small displacement turbocharged engines is what Toyota should be thinking about. I'd actually consider the old 09-10 Corolla XRS to be a real sport compact like the 05-06 was if they put like a 1.6 turbo engine with 190 hp or something. I'm all for greener cars but I dont want to sacrifice performance. I personally think hybrids are for pussy. Give me a diesel any day over a shitty hybrid. @magusownz not exactly my brother had a eg with b16 swap he hand intake headers exhaust stage 3 cams sleeved heads type r pistons and a tune and had only 180fwhp... its just the size of the engine.. a civic SI makes the power you are making with intake and exhaust only lol! my brothers SI had 190whp with just intake and axle back removed! look in my vids lol and also take a look at the races we did with 2 diferent xrs's! infact we raced one with i/h/e pfc and we were even with extra passenger!

I have a 08 si and a friend of mine has a b20 coupe he pulls half a car on take off and stays there till bout 80ish then I come back. When it's close you just want to go 4 ever!! the only reason people don't is because they don't like balance shafts, and use an s2k or rsx oil pump to delete them.

Nissan is fearless, if only Honda had their balls. I know a car company has to make money but their current product lineup is disappointing. I heard a CRZ turbo was coming out next year and im hoping Honda won't disappoint with it.

We'll see, if they get rid of the stupid hybrid batteries it will probably drop the weight by 200 lbs at least. If the engine makes 190 hp with the 6MT and weighs around 2400-2500 lbs it will be a quick car.

Impressive. Not hating on the Civic, but glad to see that it has some worthy competitors out there like the Corolla XRS - in my opinion...a total sleeper car.

@magusownz not exactly my brother had a eg with b16 swap he hand intake headers exhaust stage 3 cams sleeved heads type r pistons and a tune and had only 180fwhp... its just the size of the engine.. a civic SI makes the power you are making with intake and exhaust only lol! my brothers SI had 190whp with just intake and axle back removed! look in my vids lol and also take a look at the races we did with 2 diferent xrs's! infact we raced one with i/h/e pfc and we were even with extra passenger!

@magusownz thats exactly what i mean, we raced one with the same mods you have, 2 people in SI and 1 in the xrs and we were dead even... driver did good no granny shifting or anything, see the video for yourself lol! if you race the rsx in my vids with kpro you are going to get walked badly, that car runs low 13s now.. my brothers SI ran 14.3 with just injen intake and removed axle back, the time that yours should run with those mods

Good race!!! If the si was shifting a little faster it would of been very close! Closer the better . I have a 08 si and a friend of mine has a b20 coupe he pulls half a car on take off and stays there till bout 80ish then I come back. When it's close you just want to go 4 ever!! My car is stock except for intake.
