Yeah dont forget the other tracks on it were also huge. Covert Action is one of the most intelligent downtempo pieces of that era, and alongside the breakbeat "please stand by me" tune also by Mr Craig.
Its really worth it. Theres actually 8 different version of this release believe it or not. but not one of them sells for under 115$, a new copy costs around 700 usd . so im quite pleased at the 119 i paid for a NM copy lol

@01bot fuck me pal...ive got a original pressing and didn't think it would be worth that..have most original ur up to atleast 25, all the red planet/axis/plus 8/transmat/metroplex/..just what i bought when i was a kid..always thought shop ep by carl craig would be worth a few pounds..thats bucks to you mate..
but 119 bucks, fair play to you pal..i'd pay 500, as its worth that much to me..i could never part with my vinyl...
Got this one on vinyl and still love it...42 this year and still collect records-wavs etc...Went to Berghain in Berlin last Dec and you know what im in this for life...Thank you for posting this track...
@liennto ha, just stumbled upon these comments on here, nice to see people haven't given up on good music! I ain't that old yet (31) but I have no intentions of ever 'growing out of this', & will be going back to berlin in a few weeks & as luck would have it, the mighty Virgo are playing live at Panorama Bar whilst we're there!
@lostart15 have a wicked time! check out my Berlin based friends Cobblestone Jazz of the Wagon Repair crew... great live analog techno/jazz combo blowing up around the world... they played at Panorama that night I was speaking of...
@liennto love cobblestone jazz, would love to hear them live sometime, some great dj's in berlin while i'm there > thurs - K. Alexi / fri - Motor City Drum Ensemble / sat - Virgo (Live) / sun - Dan Curtin, i'm sure you'd agree that anyone who's into good music should do whatever they can to get there, prob one of the friendliest places i've ever been to too (maybe not berghain though haha, little too paranoid in there)
I watch Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan for samples from this track... This track has been a contant with me since spring 1990. Frankie Bones himself sold it to me for $1.00 when he used to run Groove Records on Ave. U (in Brooklyn)... Good times indeed!
I have to hold my hands up and say that im fucking 40 this year, and this and all the late 80's early 90 techno will never lose its impact.soon as this played i feel a little inner peace as daft as that sounds..
Check out 'High tech soul' Its on here.a documentary about this with juan/derric/kev/carl/eddie..awesome stuff.and i have to say that the jeff mills and Montpelier orchestra is just stunning.Thats on youtube too..nice 1 mate.
i know exactly what you mean mate, as soon as i hear any electronic music from the 80s & 90s I escape to another place far away from the stress and gloom of today's world - my safe zone!
As for Jeff Mills and the Philaharmonic 'Blue Potential' project - I still listen to Gamma Player on a near daily basis, amazing performance.
Sweet..Gamma player is a bit of a groundhog day tune for me too, i was rooting through my tunes a few weeks ago and gamma player (amongst others) is still un opened..lol
Theres nothing wrong with a bit of escape from the grind, and if this is what does it for us, then im down with that brother..
@ev3nflow I know exactly where your coming from, I used to play all this stuff back in the day, it will never lose it's sparkle and how it made me feel then and now...!!! Az
@djmadwax My friend theres nothing whatsoever crazy about detroit techno sounding better than the bilge that is vomited out today, these guys were genius, and it even back in the day took a musically edjucated mind to 'get it', what i mean is that, my freind would play this in clubs in the 90's and the hardcore 'heads' would love it..the minority, the masses wanted some cheesy throw your hands up piano tune that would be forgot a week later..
@ev3nflow Listened to Kraftwerk as a teen and lived through the disco movement and watched the rise of the techno and and industrial in the 80's. I'm 50 and I find myself coming back to this stuff all the time.
because most of the new stuff is boring at best. No imagination, creativity or atmosphere. Repeat the same measure over and over and over and they think they have a song
@eyemantra awesome mate, i love it that your 50, age means nothing, who says you have to put a flat cap on get the pipe and slipper out, nuts to that ill be waring my adidas gazelle when im 70..lol
saw the Werk a few years ago here in my hometown/manchester uk it was a nirvana moment for sure..
Frankie sold this to you for $1.00 ?!?! I'm not surprised you said it was " Good times!! " LOL! What the hell was he smoking that day?!?! Just crazy!!!! Good for you!!!!
I'm huge fan of Mr. Fingers (Can You Feel It) and Logic (The Warning/Final Frontier) and this track reminded of both, I fell in love with it instantly, even hearing it right now, 18 years since I purchased my copy, still gives me the very same goosebumps and sense of awe, almost breaks me to tears. Amazing.
this track is avaliable at boomkat.com
