I'm "Going Galt" and have even written a book on the subject titled "Going Galt: Surviving Edonomic Armageddon". Most people can't drop out 100%, but you can aggressively prepare for the bad times both financially and through stockpiling and self reliance measures. Search Daxton Brown for a video.
Isn't capitalism a mass idea of morality? Capitalism is based on the work ethic. You can be a radical individualist without being a capitalist. A lot of cult leaders are narcissistic, amoral and indifferent to suffering. Does that make them Objectivists? Objectivists are right to point out that Hitler and Stalin were greedy jerks but aren't those tyrants now justified by Objectivism in that they lived selfishly without concern for the well being of others?

By all means Randians - Go John Galt. I urge you. I dare you! Go to your "Galt's Gulch" and prove to us that you don't need anyone else - especially us "moochers" as you consider us!
But I bet you won't go, because you all know in your heart that you can't cut it. So...enjoy your little dreams - and we'll keep enjoying laughing at you.
"STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER!STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER!STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER!STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER!STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER!STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER!STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER!STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER!STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER!STEVEN CROWDER DRINKS HIS OWN MAN CHOWDER
John Galt - Ayn Rand is so naive as to think that the vitue of selfishness would in itself produce charity in the human spirit. My example is Bernie Madoff who operated in a world with absolutely no rules whatsoever. He was a cheat and a liar who only had his self interest at heart. He had/has not a charitable bone in his body. He is the result of a world without limitations, rules or morality. Only his wife and two sons are benefiting from his total lack of charity. A typical republican hack.
@Georgie2047 You're incorrect - Madoff's operation was reviewed by SEC regulators and they failed to see the fraudulent activity. The problem isn't "selfishness" or "greed", the problem was the false sense of security people got from thinking that the government was protecting them. In the "chaos" of a truly free market, such a huge scam wouldn't have been possible, because investors would've been much more careful. Self-interest and helping others aren't mutually exclusive concepts.
Worshipping a mad technocrat whose plan for global redemption starts by intentionally wiping out the world economy, and then proceeds to outlaw religion and to impose his own fascist philosophy on all humanity?
Don't worry, bearly the whole world will "Go John Galt" in the near future.
Better than going Galt, imho, is being subversive. This can best be done in the paradise of obscurity (my personal choice.) But acts of subversion can also be done in the broader public eye (i.e., Blake Mycoskie - TOMS shoes.)
i'm going john galt by continuing to be a consuming republican corporatist doucher. i saw a poor gui yesterday and all i felt was haughty rage. amidointhisrite? tabula rasa!
*sidenote, it is merely coincidental that i am a white uppermiddleclass suburban male
The problem with, as they say "going John Galy" is that one assumes that one can take their ball and leave the game, and that the game will not be able to go on without them.
1 ) it's the hight of arigence to think that the game won't go on wether you choose to play or not. Your absence only allowes others to enter and play in your place.
2) large corperations are simply not structered in such a way that they can close up shop. stow away their assets and wait it out.
As for "going Galt", I would be beyond ecstatic if filthy rich jerks like Tony Hayward (BP), Lloyd Blankfein (Goldman Sachs), Pete Petersen (Hell) all fucked off and never came back!
"Galt" is the fictional hero in Ayn Rand's novel Atlas Shrugged, the individualist who organizes a strike by the most productive members of society against the organized looters, the socialists, the redistributionists, a strike against the stifling bureaucracies and inept governments, against the idea that man must sacrifice himself to the collective, that others are somehow entitled to the product of his mind, somehow owed the product of his labor.
I'm not ready to "Go Galt" yet, but I've been wondering about the Consitutionality of the health bill. How many people will refuse to be forced to buy health coverage and refuse the penalty tax? Can the government afford to jail productive citizens as it has threatened? Instead of paying in taxes, they will become a tax burden in jail. This makes absolutely no sense.
The problem with objective reality is there is no observation that is absent the observer. So, we can stand next to one another and see something completely different, in fact we HAVE to see differently no two observers can occupy the same space and time simultaneously. Her logic is flawed if you examine it closely. Upon first reading it all sounds nice but, flawed is flawed no matter
Im going galt. Im a student who has to work to pay for school. recently, i lost my job, and got a new job. this time... im working less and took a pay cut. I have the opportunity to go full time but why? I am happy working only 30 hours a week.
@semiaquaticeel :According to an Illuminati insider, John Todd, John Galt is Philip Rothschild and at one time in a relationship with Ayn Rand. The book is the blueprint of the world revolution and world government, world religion and currency. Already in place now. Starting to be implemented.
@doughtymqan: I have done the research and I know from research and not guessing. You can continue to guess if you want, or you can listen and do the research. Its your call as I already know. "John Todd a Former Illuminatist: (Explaining The Illuminati)" Evaluate in your own vacuum or learn its up to you. Don't judge unless you actually know, and you don't,no disrespect meant.
@tgambill A Illuminati "insider"? Gimme a break. Ah yes I get it. You've never read the book! World religion? Rand is an Athiest! Stop making a fool of yourself.
@doughtymqan; Rand was an Atheist, sure was, and so that doesn't change a thing. The Illuminati uses Atheist but since you have limited knowledge at being a shill you wouldn't know how they use Atheist until the last group according to their agenda.....will be the last one forced to give their worship to Lucifer or die. You better come out of you shell and wise up.
@Sam26100 Atheist and demongoddess Rand and mistress to Philip Rothschild..yes, the book is in fact, the blueprint to the "Grand Plan" as designed to create the World Government, World Religion and world currency now nearer than ever to its fruition. Galt in the Book is in fact, Philip Rothschild in drag. Its not only the US its about world government and its working like a charm. the real blueprint starts after about 200 pages.
@tgambill Okay, so who has deciphered this code? do you know what the coded message actually says? Where is it possible to see the decoded message juxtaposed to the original writing so I can see for myself instead of just taking your word for it?
@Sam26100 If you learned how to read in high school, took a course in some Political science and researched the 10 planks of communism or the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion that should get you started.....good luck. However, you better hurry The last phase is just about here. WWIII is just around the corner as planned by Albert Pike. You got a long way to go but on a short fuse. :))
Is the deciphered code of Atlas Shrugged's message available anywhere? You're directing me to read books on general info about the Illuminati, but that wasn't what I asked you. What I want to know is: When you accuse Atlas Shrugged of containing a coded message to take over the world, have you actually seen this message or you took somebody's word that the message is in there. I've read Atlas twice and detected no such message
@Sam26100 Not books on general info, but books on the Agenda of the Illuminati, basic rules of communism inflitration and Jesuits inflitration methods.....how the Illuminati operates and the Masonic agenda of world government, RELIGION and total control. However they are in for a shock. They will be double crossed. If you read the book twice...you read it with eyes open, discernment closed.
@Sam26100 The code is in what is being said, the principles being used the conversation applied to real life. You have to have an basis of understanding from the day you are able to go to grade school. From the moment the Illuminati has a little pagan, they dedicate the life of their infant children to Lucifer. FACT.
@tgambill For the last time Gambill, I am aware of the general Illuminati info, I was just curious about this specific thing
I've heard it said before that Atlas Shrugged contains a hidden message, but what concerns me is why I am expected to believe it when nobody can produce the decryption of the message. If it hasn't been decrypted, then how can anybody claim it's there?
@Sam26100 I can only assume that you have heard John Todd talk about it! Then, not being an Illuminati I don't have any such code, but its there. The Masons have a code book that goes back generations and I have seen this one. Whether they are the same I don't know. THE PRINCIPLES or drama, the quotes and script outlines their principles. Besides, you can't possibly expect to find their codes in a library....:)
@Sam26100 From the first day of school they attend regular school but they also learn the principles that they will apply to carry on the protocol. Discernment and pre-knowledge. you have a long way to go. better get started. If you are looking for the DUH-vinci code, a movie is a good place to start for this hoax. However, otherwise, re-read the book with a different eye now.
@tgambill Another thing, you don't need to tell me that we've got hard times coming for us. I am well aware of this fact. Without any shadowy conspiracy groups planning a world take-over, we are going to have hard times because people are immoral infants, that alone is enough to bring society back to the dark ages
@Sam26100 I have no idea what you know, my crystal ball is broke. Its not without a shadowy group, it is because of the shadowy groups. The reason is not because of people, it is in fact an agenda and specific set of objectives are lined up with deadlines, measuring criteria, the neutralizing of highly placed people who are being uncooperative and have a conscious or more power hungry depending......No, it is a set group of objectives
John Galt was based off of real-life serial killer William Hickman. Ayn Rand herself was a fan of his monster and wrote about him lovingly. She admired him so much that he was her vision of the "perfect man".
Yep. The Libertarian/Objectivist model for America is based on a psychopath who kidnapped, raped, and dismembered children.
Next time you see an Objectivist, ask them about Rand's infatuation with Hickman. In fact, don't ever freaking let them forget it!
Haans, by testimony Ayn Rand was in fact a Mistress of Philip Rothschild. As a matter of fact, Hitler was the offspring of a Rothschild and house maid. yes, Hitler was half jew.....
If anyone else here hasn't read Rand's essay called "The Art of Smearing" from her book "Capitalism: the Unknown Ideal", this is a prime example of it -- a few facts with a dreadful conclusion based on nothing (smearing).
Literal going Galt isn't about proving a point, it is about living to a certain code.. not bound by any other (mass) idea of morality, other than your own. Life without fear of selfless sacrifice for the good of the masses. Going Galt isnt about bringin anyone else down, but about preserving yourself and your own sanity and morality.
"If you find a chance to vanish into some wilderness out of their reach, do so, but not to exist as a bandit or to create a gang competing with their racket; build a productive life of your own with those who accept your moral code and are willing to struggle for a human existence. You have no chance to win on the Morality of Death or by the code of faith and force; ...
@JohnIGalt ...raise a standard to which the honest will repair: the standard of Life and Reason.
"Act as a rational being and aim at becoming a rallying point for all those who are starved for a voice of integrity - act on your rational values, whether alone in the midst of your enemies, or with a few of your chosen friends, or as the founder of a modest community on the frontier of mankind's rebirth....
@JohnIGalt ..."When the looters' state collapses, deprived of the best of its slaves, when it falls to a level of impotent chaos, like the mystic-ridden nations of the Orient, and dissolves into starving robber gangs fighting to rob one another - when the advocates of the morality of sacrifice perish with their final ideal - then and on that day we will return."
HAHA, go John Galt. I don't give a fuck! You'll either lose your job or your shitty company will tank.
Atlas Shrugged was a bullshit fiction book. If you think anyone will miss you once your gone, we won't. There is enough productive people to go around.
Ayn Rand was a pseudo-philosopher who purposed probably the most retarded ethical theories ever conceived. Don't even get me started on her economics and politics.
@ZamatoElite What happens when we reach the tipping point and there are not enough people paying into the system to support those being paid by the system?
Atlas Shrugged past 200 pages begins to be the blueprint for the World Revolution written in code. Rothschilds contracted Rand to write it. Thats not all Philip Rothschild contracted for......a roll in the hay as well.
Right, like taking your own skills off the market is going to do anything. The difference for you is that you are not John Galt, and you are not living in Atlas Shrugged. Taking your own skills elsewhere certainly will not have the same effect, especially if you're one of the people who seem to believe achieving this would be a good thing.
Good luck finding a gulch not already populated by objectivist twats, by the way...
Im an objectivist and I don't think the "going galt" movement is a good idea.
Atlas Shrugged was a projection of ideas, it wasn't real life. The purpose was to demonstrate a concept, but in reality there are too many people who produce in order to organize such a strike effectively.
Ayn Rand institue president Yaron Brook said that he doesn't think it's a good idea either.
We are glad that people understand "sanction of the victim", but there are better ways to fight in reality
@Sam26100 Going Galt is a real option. You can move from a less free state to a more free state, like NY to NH, or CA to TX. That way NY and CA suffer and the rest of the country can take notice. Or if your issue is with the government, you can move to Singapore or Switzerland and stop paying taxes (it is illegal to do so, but many are doing it). One person won't make a difference, but when tens of thousands of producers move, then change happens.
@AynRandFanJG Hmm, that would be more like Dagny Taggart trying to make a difference from within the system, since TX and NH are still use Dollars last time I checked, and are still under many of the federal government's powers. Either way it's pointless to "go Galt" because if you think that a severe decline in living standards will jolt people out of their stupor, it's coming our way whether we "go Galt" or not. Our economy is hanging off a cliff and will soon tip over
@Sam26100 "AS" is real life and a projection of principles they have used and are using to bring about the Luciferian One World Government and one world religion. Pure and simple no matter how you turn the screw or twist the rhetoric.
@Sam26100 Well, of course, it's not a good idea—it's not mere idea, at all—rather is it natural reaction to unconscious cost / benefit estimation; and, if you'd tell me enough about yourself—your doings, occupation and so forth—I'd give you examples from your own life, . . .
Though in the book I think the point of the strike was also to demonstrate the concept that being a parasite doesn't pay in the long run. All you do is make yourself dependant on your victims, but if they quit complying then you die
@lukosrage But in reality if we were to go "Galt" that would mean withdrawing from society completely and living in a secret place somewhere which is probably impossible with todays technology.
Besides our economy doesn't need any help to collapse, it will collapse regardless of any conscious attempt to "go galt" We are all being punished for our moral atmosphere, which is corrupt.
@Sam26100 Perhaps you're right, but sometimes I wonder if maybe instead we should all bleed the system to death by pretending to be moochers like everyone else? Take as much from the public teat as possible, overwhelm the system and bring it crashing down on their heads, as they so richly deserve. Take everything but give them nothing in return, not our support, not our production, not our ideas.
An ugly solution definately, but perhaps the only.
Not only can we go Galt, but the government will pay us to do it. And since we were forced to pay them their unearned protection money, it is just to be paid, with interest.
Unfortunately, the presumption of guilt and prosecutor misconduct characterises the United States justice system for the moment... and people seem to prefer that their justice system serve as legal necktie parties... juries won't put an end to that.
I rate up bad comments so that we may continue to see their stupidity, not because I agree with them. Youtube's policy is quite statist in that regard: "It's rated low, so it should be censored" NO. It's rated low, so everyone should see the mistake (or figure out the brilliance over time, and rate it up...) Something only needs a "minus six" to disappear: are there six idiots online? Yes, there are. YOUTUBE: NEVER CENSOR / HIDE COMMENTS! No matter how unpopular!!
"Objectivism" is asinine to fight libertarianism. Only the Nathaniel Branden objectivists exhibit common sense. ie: "We are all libertarians now" For being laissez-faire capitalists both libertarians, "agorists", and objectivists are idiotic to infight over petty differences: it's as if they have not cost/benefit module in their minds. The cost of infighting is tyranny. Fuckin' "People's Front of Judea" LOL Read "Molon Labe" by Boston T. Party for a realistic pro-freedom rebellion.
There will be a jury rights rebellion in the USA. The Magna Carta (1215) was the first. Then the Leveller rebellion (middle 1600s) reinstated jury trial. Then King George III once again interfered with juries before the American revolution, and we won them back again. Then we lost them with jury rigging in 1850, with northern judges (not "the people") supporting the Fugitive Slave Act. Lysander Spooner wrote about this. Gradually, additional jury rigging has come, until the rebellion, NOW.
The government should crack their heads like they do to any strikers... what's this union-like activity? Well, the scabs will replace them and the Galt retreat will degenerate into dysfunctionalism as no garbage is picked up... I see the new John Galt slip on a banana peel.
Objectism will never catch on because objectizvists can't form a coherent movement. Objectivists can barely stand each other let alone non-objectivists. Self loathing tends to do that to a person. Objectivists can't even follow the main idea of Objectivism; love thy self first...lol
You're talking about a very small group of Objectivists. Most Objectivists are libertarian or conservative. The main difference being that some Objectivists favor sending US troops overseas to protect US business and property overseas, which obviously leads to increased taxes and foreign entanglements as a result.
Obama already caused me to go John Galt, and it wasn't by choice. I'm going to have to find a welfare recipient to walk me through the system. Since the left is trying to break the system, I say we beat them to it. Everybody quit and go on welfare. Let's see how long that lasts with nobody paying in to the system.
You don't have to "go John Galt" intentionally to be withdrawing your talent, skills and productivity.
The fact is, when the fucking government creates red tape and obstacles to starting/running your own business, less people - many of which never even heard of Ayn Rand - will bother going to the effort for simple economic reasons.
In the absence of that bullshit, a lot more people would hang out a shingle.
companies who then proceeded to jake up rates. But, 'deregulation' was supposed to LOWER our utility bills with 'competition'! You think some private company would pay money to build a damn? Las Vegas wouldn't even exist if it weren't for 'gov't intervention'. JP Morgan passed on the opportunity to invest in the electric grid because there was no money in it. If it were left up to private industry to provide it, cities would be the only places that had power. Get a fucking clue already.
lol. "AT&T GAVE THEM". You know, back then it was illegal to have an answering machine. Still yearning for those days? Competition did give you more. Do you know anything about railroads?
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
and it was done well. same with the Bell system. once 90%+ of US had local phone service & other private companies got into the long-distance market with technology that AT&T GAVE THEM, the gov't broke up AT&T & the Bells to allow competition. What happened next was price controls were lifted & rates went thru the roof! We paid for the system & now private companies are raping us for letting us use the system WE built. Same with utilities. TVA paid for by taxpayers then GIVEN away to private
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
that they provide service to every household in America under the local Bell system. Do you think private companies would pay the expense of running phone lines to rural areas so they could charge people a couple bucks a month for phone service? Wake up. Same with electricity. You think private companies would pay to run lines out to the middle of nowhere so rural/poor people could have electricity? Do you think only rich, city folk should have electicity? Rural electification was done by gov't
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
the post office is mandated by the Constitution to make sure people who live in outlying areas got mail delivered. You think Fed Ex would bother delivering letters to folks who live way out in the sticks? Hell no. If they did, they'd charge you and arm & leg. Without the post office, you'd be paying $5/letter. The gov't did not create railroad monopolies other than in the mind of Rand. AT&T was given a highly regulated monopoly to run/manage the nations telephone/telegraph system under a mandate
Actually, The Sweetwater Jones = Cody Alexander Young, nor am I even remotely in favour of national socialism as you seen to infer. Point of fact I am staunchly in favour of privatisation -though I acknowledge it is not a broad brush to be applied indiscriminately across the canvass of economic policy. However, retreating from the troubles of the world instead of rising to the challenge is the path of least resistance that leads only to a coward's haven -a destination I would die than visit.
I am not conflicted, I am content in my struggles. Your words echo the sentiments and reasoning of another, and like an echo, carry neither conviction nor strength enough to accomplish anything more than perpetuate every weakening repetition. Why are you still here little lamb, why haven't you yet gone 'John Galt?' Still waiting on a shepherd to lead you to safety? Someone with the clarity of vision and drive to do what you are unwilling to? You are less than inconsequential, whatever you do.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Such sheep as you are always in search of a shepherd. I wish you all would truly disappear and quit your pitiful mewling. This country, and the world at large, will get along perfectly well without you.
Considering how many people move out of highly taxed states like California, New Jersey and New York to find jobs when they can't there, it does happen.
However if the whole country's economy falters there is no where left to go as America is the last best hope.
No, because John Galt is a producer who does not enslave others, but rather trades with them as an equal. God is a sadistic psychopathic monster who enslaves as a matter of course. God and Galt are polar opposites. Galt is good. God is evil.

Nice to have so many things rolled into one day; a celebration, demonstration, day of protest by withdrawl of one's moral sanction. Very efficient - Ayn Rand would be proud - and pride is a Virtue for Egoïsts.

...And to those out there that are seriously contemplating 'GoingJohnGalt' and "ComingToAtlantis"- (which IS the right thing to do btw and the ONLY moral way that a huMan being can defeat mystic/altruist/collectivist culture) - be sure you do so with some fidelity to the novel and the principles of Egoïsm. What does "Going John Galt" mean in this context exactly? Not paying taxes? Cutting oneself off from society? Starting a new country (Atlantis)? Please explain.

Still, all knowledge has value so send a PM and I'll send you the way here.
Socialists have a real visceral hatred of capitalists who will not do their bidding, i.e. 'lay golden eggs' for them. Don't tell ANYONE when you 'go John Galt'. You want to destroy socialism, not commit suicide.
Anyone who has given a careful reading of Atlas Shrugged will conclude that 'going John Galt' can only mean withholding his or her products or services as the only meaningful form of protest against socialist encroachment on their freedom to think and create better products and services. The goal of such 'withholding' is to eliminate the socialist encroachment altogether. To publicly draw attention to one self as 'going John Galt' would be a death wish or an act of stupidity.
"John Galt is Prometheus who changed his mind. After centuries of being torn by vultures in payment for having brought to men the fire of the gods, he broke his chains and withdrew his fire - until the day when men withdraw their vultures."
Does that mean you're going to be homeless. A lot of people are going to be thanks to conservative principles under Bush. I'd love to see you try to make it on the street.
The notion that the poor should own houses is not solely a Republican agenda. The Democrats are all for it. They're responsible for the crisis just as much as the Republicans, if not a great deal more. Just look at the current Democratic president and how much damage he's doing in less than 2 months.
Republican party has long gone bad. They need to return to their previous free market principles.
To expand on that, congress passed the law back in the eighties that forced banks to give risky loans to the poor who couldn't make the payments, because "Everyone deserves a home." When banks had to start investing is the stock market to recover their lost profit, they overlooked what a terrible idea that was and began losing money from both ends, for anyone who cares to know how this whole situation came about :)
Far from it, they were hoping to lure people in then turn the hose on them with high interest rates. You really need to read the paperwork as it was presented. It seems reasonable and affordable the way it was presented, but hidden in the papwork was a two year period, usually not fully disclosed to the parties who did it. But it back fired on these scum and they deserve what they got.
If by "average American," you mean the kind of people that run our government, broadcast our news, attend our schools, interpret our laws, and survive on government handouts and continue to cry out for more, then hell, I suppose I have contempt for "Average Americans" as well. There's a difference between elitist and realist, and noticing that there needs to be some serious reform of america's notion of personal accountability hardly classifys one as elitist.
Have you ever actually read Rand? The main thesis of Atlas was that the rich & powerful should be left to pursue wealth unobstructed by gov't or any concern for labor or the public. That the pursuit of wealth by men of the highest stature was the greatest endeavor of mankind. The hero of the story is a railroad magnet. Well, anyone with a little sense of history knows that the railroads were largely public works projects. Yeah, 'socialism'. They were given to people like Taggart to manage.
What a dandy- have you ever read Rand? I'm nearly done with the book right now and it's a fascinating book. Considering it was written over 50 years ago as fiction it is practically narrating the issues of today!
There's no notion of an uncaring for labor or the public in the book. In fact, there's a great deal of caring for labor AND the public. The railroad "magnet" you mention in an unobstructed government would want to please the public to remain profitable. They also want good labor..

yes but i would disagree w/your assertion that book describes issues of today. quite contrary. we've been run over by unregulated laisse-faire capitalism. gov't exists for reason; to protect life, liberty & property of everyone. corporations are able to grow so large & monopolize markets to point where we no longer have choice. this is what happens w/out regulation. wealth consolidates at top. & fact remains some public works are too large & important for one company to control.
It absolutely describes issues relevant to today. Government taking over control of a private railroad? Government growth beyond Constitutional powers? Change names and you have the headlines today.
What we've been "run over" by is the effects of over-regulation. Your previous railroad example was incorrect as well. Union Pacific and Central Pacific were railroads given government funding and incentivized building a twised railroad very poorly. They both went bankrupt...

i guess you don't mind if my mining company comes & dumps our sludge on lot next to ur home! Our bank coming in & buying up all local banks in ur town too! Our utility company is planning on buying up all power plants in ur state as well. we're thinking of building dam up river from ur town so we can charge u 4 whatever h2o we decide to let u have. btw, we're going 2 need some cheap labor so, hope you don't mind us bringing 10k chinese kids to ur town to work in our factories. its only bidness!
I'm not saying there should be no regulation. Additionally, those issues you bring up are not federal government issues aside from the importation of "10k Chinese kids". (which really makes no sense) But all in all, no I see no reason why a company can't buy another company for various reasons and neither should there be a limit as to what they can make as long as their shareholders agree that they're profitable and can pay the wages. That's the big problem I have right now with a "pay czar".
Don't get me started on "monopolies" either. What you learn in school deserves some real thought on the subject. A market monopoly likely means people have chosen a product for a reason either lower price or best quality. A government monopoly usually means that due to stupid political favors, one company has an advantage over others (like the cable industry for quite some time). So they have no incentive to provide low prices or high quality. The cable companies are just now figuring that out.

problem w/people like rand is they are ideologs & ideology never works. no system is perfect. you need combination of things, compromise, common sense to make any system work & you also need honest, ethical people all around, something we are sorely lacking. rand thinks business leaders are basically really great people who just want to provide good service/products for people. bullshit. people are inherently greedy & regs need to be in place to address human nature/shortcomings.
You call Rand the "idealog" yet all your thoughts are ideals as well. Your notion that everyone is greedy can be turned around to fit the bill of anyone who feels that wealth should be shared. That's greed of the worst kind because it involves stealing from the rich to pay the poor. Any wealth argument can have holes shot into it, but what's wrong with wanting to make as much as you can and be very successful at what you do? It's good for employment and the tax receipts go up as well.
You want a goverment to look after you? Then you must give up your freedom in exchange for their protection. I want a goverment that will get out of my way , and allow me to look after myself. People like you brought us here.....
So, what is role of gov't then if it's not to protect people & keep most vulnerable from slipping thru cracks? You talk about wanting gov't out your way & I agree there is lot of BS that could be cut. But, I guarantee you have to idea extent at which gov't works in your daily life w/out which, life as you know it would not be. You like electricity, air travel, travel on interstates, safe food, police, fire, ports in which your cheap electronics come in to?

Isn't capitalism a mass idea of morality? Capitalism is based on the work ethic. You can be a radical individualist without being a capitalist. A lot of cult leaders are narcissistic, amoral and indifferent to suffering. Does that make them Objectivists? Objectivists are right to point out that Hitler and Stalin were greedy jerks but aren't those tyrants now justified by Objectivism in that they lived selfishly without concern for the well being of others?

John Galt - Ayn Rand is so naive as to think that the vitue of selfishness would in itself produce charity in the human spirit. My example is Bernie Madoff who operated in a world with absolutely no rules whatsoever. He was a cheat and a liar who only had his self interest at heart. He had/has not a charitable bone in his body. He is the result of a world without limitations, rules or morality. Only his wife and two sons are benefiting from his total lack of charity. A typical republican hack.
Georgie2047 1 year ago
@Georgie2047 You're incorrect - Madoff's operation was reviewed by SEC regulators and they failed to see the fraudulent activity. The problem isn't "selfishness" or "greed", the problem was the false sense of security people got from thinking that the government was protecting them. In the "chaos" of a truly free market, such a huge scam wouldn't have been possible, because investors would've been much more careful. Self-interest and helping others aren't mutually exclusive concepts.

The problem with objective reality is there is no observation that is absent the observer. So, we can stand next to one another and see something completely different, in fact we HAVE to see differently no two observers can occupy the same space and time simultaneously. @doughtymqan; Rand was an Atheist, sure was, and so that doesn't change a thing. You better come out of you shell and wise up.

@tgambill They used Rand to do what exactly? you believe Atlas Shrugged contained a coded message to take over the US?
Sam26100 1 year ago
@Sam26100 Atheist and demongoddess Rand and mistress to Philip Rothschild..yes, the book is in fact, the blueprint to the "Grand Plan" as designed to create the World Government, World Religion and world currency now nearer than ever to its fruition. Galt in the Book is in fact, Philip Rothschild in drag. Its not only the US its about world government and its working like a charm. the real blueprint starts after about 200 pages.
tgambill 1 year ago
@tgambill Okay, so who has deciphered this code? do you know what the coded message actually says? Where is it possible to see the decoded message juxtaposed to the original writing so I can see for myself instead of just taking your word for it?

@Sam26100 If you learned how to read in high school, took a course in some Political science and researched the 10 planks of communism or the Protocols of the Learned Elders of Zion that should get you started.....good luck. However, you better hurry The last phase is just about here. WWIII is just around the corner as planned by Albert Pike. You got a long way to go but on a short fuse. :))
tgambill 1 year ago
@tgambill You haven't answered my question.
Sam26100 1 year ago
@Sam26100 Not books on general info, but books on the Agenda of the Illuminati, basic rules of communism inflitration and Jesuits inflitration methods.....how the Illuminati operates and the Masonic agenda of world government, RELIGION and total control. However they are in for a shock. They will be double crossed. If you read the book twice...you read it with eyes open, discernment closed.
tgambill 1 year ago
@tgambill Whatever, you're giving me books about the agenda of the Illuminati, but my question wasn't about that
How do you know there is a code if the code has never been deciphered?
Sam26100 1 year ago
@Sam26100 The code is in what is being said, the principles being used the conversation applied to real life. You have to have an basis of understanding from the day you are able to go to grade school. From the moment the Illuminati has a little pagan, they dedicate the life of their infant children to Lucifer. FACT.
tgambill 1 year ago
@tgambill For the last time Gambill, I am aware of the general Illuminati info, I was just curious about this specific thing
I've heard it said before that Atlas Shrugged contains a hidden message, but what concerns me is why I am expected to believe it when nobody can produce the decryption of the message. If it hasn't been decrypted, then how can anybody claim it's there?
Sam26100 1 year ago
@Sam26100 I can only assume that you have heard John Todd talk about it! Then, not being an Illuminati I don't have any such code, but its there. The Masons have a code book that goes back generations and I have seen this one. Whether they are the same I don't know. THE PRINCIPLES or drama, the quotes and script outlines their principles. Besides, you can't possibly expect to find their codes in a library....:)
tgambill 1 year ago
@Sam26100 From the first day of school they attend regular school but they also learn the principles that they will apply to carry on the protocol. Discernment and pre-knowledge. you have a long way to go. better get started. If you are looking for the DUH-vinci code, a movie is a good place to start for this hoax. However, otherwise, re-read the book with a different eye now.
tgambill 1 year ago
@tgambill Another thing, you don't need to tell me that we've got hard times coming for us. I am well aware of this fact. Without any shadowy conspiracy groups planning a world take-over, we are going to have hard times because people are immoral infants, that alone is enough to bring society back to the dark ages
Sam26100 1 year ago
@Sam26100 I have no idea what you know, my crystal ball is broke. Its not without a shadowy group, it is because of the shadowy groups. The reason is not because of people, it is in fact an agenda and specific set of objectives are lined up with deadlines, measuring criteria, the neutralizing of highly placed people who are being uncooperative and have a conscious or more power hungry depending......No, it is a set group of objectives

ampersandwitch 2 years ago
Im an objectivist and I don't think the "going galt" movement is a good idea.
Atlas Shrugged was a projection of ideas, it wasn't real life. The purpose was to demonstrate a concept, but in reality there are too many people who produce in order to organize such a strike effectively.
Ayn Rand institue president Yaron Brook said that he doesn't think it's a good idea either.
We are glad that people understand "sanction of the victim", but there are better ways to fight in reality
Sam26100 2 years ago 8
@Sam26100 Going Galt is a real option. You can move from a less free state to a more free state, like NY to NH, or CA to TX. That way NY and CA suffer and the rest of the country can take notice. Or if your issue is with the government, you can move to Singapore or Switzerland and stop paying taxes (it is illegal to do so, but many are doing it). One person won't make a difference, but when tens of thousands of producers move, then change happens.
AynRandFanJG 1 year ago
@AynRandFanJG Hmm, that would be more like Dagny Taggart trying to make a difference from within the system, since TX and NH are still use Dollars last time I checked, and are still under many of the federal government's powers. Either way it's pointless to "go Galt" because if you think that a severe decline in living standards will jolt people out of their stupor, it's coming our way whether we "go Galt" or not. Our economy is hanging off a cliff and will soon tip over
Sam26100 1 year ago
@Sam26100 "AS" is real life and a projection of principles they have used and are using to bring about the Luciferian One World Government and one world religion. Pure and simple no matter how you turn the screw or twist the rhetoric.
tgambill 1 year ago
@Sam26100 Well, of course, it's not a good idea—it's not mere idea, at all—rather is it natural reaction to unconscious cost / benefit estimation; and, if you'd tell me enough about yourself—your doings, occupation and so forth—I'd give you examples from your own life, . . .
phillipgaley 1 year ago
@phillipgaley I understand what you're saying.
Though in the book I think the point of the strike was also to demonstrate the concept that being a parasite doesn't pay in the long run. All you do is make yourself dependant on your victims, but if they quit complying then you die

Party for a realistic pro-freedom rebellion.
libertarianjury 2 years ago
There will be a jury rights rebellion in the USA. The Magna Carta (1215) was the first. Then the Leveller rebellion (middle 1600s) reinstated jury trial. Then King George III once again interfered with juries before the American revolution, and we won them back again. Then we lost them with jury rigging in 1850, with northern judges (not "the people") supporting the Fugitive Slave Act. Lysander Spooner wrote about this. Gradually, additional jury rigging has come, until the rebellion, NOW.

Get a fucking clue already.

and it was done well. same with the Bell system. once 90%+ of US had local phone service & other private companies got into the long-distance market with technology that AT&T GAVE THEM, the gov't broke up AT&T & the Bells to allow competition. What happened next was price controls were lifted & rates went thru the roof! We paid for the system & now private companies are raping us for letting us use the system WE built. Same with utilities. TVA paid for by taxpayers then GIVEN away to private

that they provide service to every household in America under the local Bell system. Rural electification was done by gov't

the post office is mandated by the Constitution to make sure people who live in outlying areas got mail delivered.

Considering how many people move out of highly taxed states like California, New Jersey and New York to find jobs when they can't there, it does happen.
However if the whole country's economy falters there is no where left to go as America is the last best hope.

DanimusMaximus87 2 years ago
No, because John Galt is a producer who does not enslave others, but rather trades with them as an equal. God is a sadistic psychopathic monster who enslaves as a matter of course. God and Galt are polar opposites. Galt is good. God is evil.

April 15 this year would mark the 80th anniversary celebration of the marriage of Ayn Rand to Frank O'Connor.
Nice to have so many things rolled into one day; a celebration, demonstration, day of protest by withdrawl of one's moral sanction. Very efficient - Ayn Rand would be proud - and pride is a Virtue for Egoïsts.

NotThat3 2 years ago

There's a difference between elitist and realist, and noticing that there needs to be some serious reform of america's notion of personal accountability hardly classifys one as elitist.
randman83 2 years ago
Have you ever actually read Rand? The main thesis of Atlas was that the rich & powerful should be left to pursue wealth unobstructed by gov't or any concern for labor or the public. That the pursuit of wealth by men of the highest stature was the greatest endeavor of mankind. The hero of the story is a railroad magnet. Well, anyone with a little sense of history knows that the railroads were largely public works projects. Yeah, 'socialism'. They were given to people like Taggart to manage.
FattKidd 2 years ago

FattKidd 2 years ago
It absolutely describes issues relevant to today. Government taking over control of a private railroad? Government growth beyond Constitutional powers? Change names and you have the headlines today.
What we've been "run over" by is the effects of over-regulation. Your previous railroad example was incorrect as well. Union Pacific and Central Pacific were railroads given government funding and incentivized building a twised railroad very poorly. They both went bankrupt...

FattKidd 2 years ago
I'm not saying there should be no regulation. Additionally, those issues you bring up are not federal government issues aside from the importation of "10k Chinese kids". (which really makes no sense) But all in all, no I see no reason why a company can't buy another company for various reasons and neither should there be a limit as to what they can make as long as their shareholders agree that they're profitable and can pay the wages. That's the big problem I have right now with a "pay czar".
Shpiker 2 years ago 4
It's barely worth mentioning, but the private sector does not work like that.
Now subsitute the word government...
GBS990 2 years ago

FattKidd 2 years ago
You call Rand the "idealog" yet all your thoughts are ideals as well. Your notion that everyone is greedy can be turned around to fit the bill of anyone who feels that wealth should be shared. That's greed of the worst kind because it involves stealing from the rich to pay the poor. Any wealth argument can have holes shot into it, but what's wrong with wanting to make as much as you can and be very successful at what you do? It's good for employment and the tax receipts go up as well.
