  • She could do anything w/ her voice that she wanted. She left the world, but fortunately for the rest of us, she left her extraordinary musical gifts behind for us to appreciate.

  • Just listened to the late Eva singing Danny Boy--Tennesse Waltz is fab. RIP. xx

  • She always touches the spirit

  • i love her voice - and i only wish more people knew of her, and appreciated the gift that she had! i am her champion now!

  • for such a great singer and young lassies to go so early its our problem not to here her again.beautiful voice.

  • How is it possible that every song I have heard her do is better than any version I've heard before?

  • I wonder if there has ever been a more beautiful human voice. If there has, I haven't heard it.

  • I was casually listening to music videos and clicked on this one, not knowing who Eva Cassidy was. This is an excellent, beautiful version of that melancholy song. Wow, the phrasing and voice! Then I found out this wonderful singer is gone and passed at such an early age! very sad.

  • Just an amazing singer, one of my mom and dad's favorite songs. Wow can she bring back memories!

  • We are all born with gifts, some are born with superlative gifts, but few if ever are gifted to transcend all into the private space of iconic. She resides there.

  • There is nothing better in this world than the sweet, sweet tones of Eva Cassidy.

  • Ty Eve what a voice this is One of my favorite songs and ya sing it the way it should be

  • Love you Eva you're so amazing and you sang with a purpose and I love you and you have inspired so much thank you

  • unreal voice, i know eva and her music since only 3 days, but i can ask that she is one of the best singer i've ever listening

  • The voice of an Angel

  • Wow! Great voice! I've just discovered her, but I'm very touched by her strong, but also delicate voice. Marvelous...

  • Eva "The Voice" I have no words describe how she moves me!

  • Comment removed

  • I know now just what I have lost and her name is Eva.

  • not many artists today can produce such beautiful music with just their voice and barely any other accompaniment. That is because Eva had such a unique instrument in her voice, nothing else was necessary to make our emotions soar and our eyes tear up. That is true talent

  • Love this version, she had an amazing voice. R.IP. Eva

  • Ive never heard of Eva but I can tell you Ill listyen from now on ... What a voice

  • @kspill172 It's unfortunate, but so many people - myself included- have only discovered Eva since her untimely passing. We're lucky she was able to record as much as she did in her short lifetime, and hopefully her music will be available to us forever. If you haven't, check out her recording of "Over the Rainbow." One of the best. Cheers.

  • The most beautiful version I've heard of this beautiful song.

  • Brilliant!

  • Beautiful... Into tears right now :')

  • if this doesn't give you goose bumps, you might want to check your pulse..

  • Eva had an amazing talent, but this song I prefer to hear from Patti Page. I suppose after fifty-plus years of hearing one version, it is hard to change taste.

  • How could this be disliked?

  • My heart breaks every time I hear her sing. The voice of an ANGEL!

  • Great singer. Great song! This is the official state song of Tennessee. I'm prejudiced, but no other "state song" comes close.

  • Une voix extra sur une toune extra!

  • If you have a heart.....you're tearing up right about now....

  • In memory of George.

  • oh my god this singer own heavenly voice.. his singing in in clouds now... more angel that angel can be. piece to your soul angel.

  • She sure made this one her own too....Beautifully done Eva,,,We miss you...

  • E P I C . . .

  • I still remember how I felt the first time I heard her sing "Over The Rainbow". What an incredible talent. Her technical skills were good but it was her ability to evoke an emotional response that put her over the top. Never heard anybody like her and I'm so grateful that we can still listen to that wonderful voice. Thank you, Eva.

  • you live on Eva !! (you just left this toxic planet ...you were to PURE too stay here too long) Thank goodness you left the rest of us your beautiful voice THANK YOU SO MUCH

  • @ZEITGEISTism well said

  • @SchweetDude

    Thank you !

  • what a wonderful voice of an angel..so sad r.i.p eva

  • Beautfiul!

  • This was a song me and my dad used to sing together but sadly now he is with the angels singing along hopefully

  • If angels sing, they aspire to sound like Eva Cassidy.

  • Her voice is sad. I wonder if shewas born this way or circumstances made her so. Yet her beautiful voice, even in its sorrow uplifts us.

  • you are right dancgear, her phrasing is awesome!!!

  • First time I have heard you perform. Wow! Very well done young lady. You are great.

  • Beautiful voice. So sad she had to die so very early.

  • This is the saddest song i have ever heard. But beautiful.

  • Today is my discovery day for Eva Cassidy. What an amazing singer! I just love her.

  • @LearningCurve9 cince i have discoverd her on you tube, i orderd all her cd's, she was and wil always be an amazing artist

  • This is the first time that I have heard this rendition, absolutely wonderful, so smooth, so hauntingly mild & beautifully lingering still, that the sage of the mind just keeps on strumming it through the memories of fancy & time. Thank you Eva, giovanni

  • She sang it with deep expression from the heart. It is beautiful listening to her voice although she is no longer with us. Long live her beautiful and shooting voice.

  • Haunting!

  • The first song I ever remember hearing on radio was "Tennessee Waltz", probably Patti Page's version. But it's Eva's rendition that brings me to tears.

  • Queen Eva

  • There is no substitute for pure talent...

  • I am new to her music but I have heard I love it. She had a beautiful heart which is expressed through her music. She shall live on in Heaven and her music shall continue to bless the earth.

  • Well beyonce & madonna plus the others are not being slammed. You do have to admit, or be deaf, that they will never reach this force of talent. They also could stopped showing as much of their bodies as they do their voice. pound for pound, there's no comparison, vocally or morally.

  • I agree with dancgear!!! She is the greatest female singer in the history of of the world!!!!!

  • This is beautiful.

  • She sounded like an angel before she actually became one.

  • Heartbreaking, gutwrenching, and inspiring all at once. What makes it all the sadder is that this magnificent voice is no longer here on Earth.

  • Heartbreaking, gutwrenching, and inspiring all at once. What makes it all the sadder is that this magnificent voice is no longer here on Earth. Rest assured she's a lead in God's choir.

  • IIt´s a pity she is not between us anymore! But her music remains...

  • IERLAND

  • Eva magnificently expresses various emotions in the song. She seems to easily go from the warm loving feelings she had for her darling to the anger she feels toward her friend who stole her sweetheart. This ability to express her emotions in her singing is her greatest talent. I can't get enough of Eva Cassidy.

  • Due credit to all versions and all singers of this song - but it's only EVA who can give me chills down my spine with her voice. The sheer beauty and purity and simplicity of her tone is unequalled. IMO She would have to have one of the most perfect voices I've ever heard. There is not even one flaw in her pitch, tone emotional interpretation and delivery. She nails it without any production gimmicks or electronic assistance

  • Not terrible but can anyone hold a candle to Patsy Cline?

  • Великолепно!!!

  • Australia

  • hi were are you from ?

  • PLEASE IGNORE roneesam HE IS A JERK OF THE FIRST ORDER I HAVE NO IDEA WHY HE EVEN VISITS HERE.

  • @poopsienoremac, your reactions feed him. Don't feed him. Eva needs no defense. You need no grief.

  • a song and singer that will always be in our hearts, truly knee bending!

  • There has not been a contemporary singer with her sense of phrasing. Never.

  • @dancgear you are so right, her phrasing is totally awesome, what a beautiful voice.

  • @dancgear She certainly had stellar phrasing that nobody else had, but you can't not mention people like Ella, Billie and Louis, the people who wrote the book on phrasing that Eva drew from. Then you have people like Aretha and Elvis. I would think they were all contemporary singers with at least equally magnificent phrasing.

  • she sings it the best...............

  • Far and away the best rendition of this song available here on youtube, When this woman sings, you can feel every note....

  • This is a waltz, donc (no that's french, sorry), therefore we should dance. Dance because we had this wonderful voice, that we lost all too soon. Her voice touches me in places I didn't know exsisted. Her voice will always stay here.

  • love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! great singer!!!!!!!!!!!

  • lovely!

  • such minimal production needed. so smooth so clean. absolutely worth tearing up too. i am so stoked my buddy told me about her.

  • Eva is a great artist. Better than most. Unforgettable.

  • Eva was an angel sent down to lift our hearts up with her music. She will liveon forever in my heart.

  • Very nice....

  • Fly on the wings of angels, Eva. Thank you for the music.

  • @hndbrown Have you ears! This woman crucifies songs with ever so slightly off key moaning. At least when Shirley Bassey"sang" she totally murdered songs with truly flat notes. Cassidy's opening of 'Somewhere over the rainbow' with the first two notes inaccurately sung live forever with me. Just as Music from 'Kismet' forever ruin Borodin's string quartet.

  • @ronneesam The fact that Eva's music seems to provoke a catty, malevolent and girlish response from you makes me appreciate her music even more. But for what it's worth, I'll ask the same question of you I asked my daughter years ago: If you don't like her (you've made many comments on Eva's videos, all of 'em catty), why do you keep playing with her ? Consider playing with girls you *do* like....

  • @Edella. Catty, malevolent and girlish. Says more about you than me. Begging the question you are female why do you ascribe these words to someone who simply asks why a singer can't sing a song correctly? Please tell me why Eva Cassidy ignores the fact that 'Somewhere over the rainbow' starts with the first two notes an octave apart and simply repeats the first note? This is musically horrible and verges on wailing. If I provoke you into appreciating Cassidy's singing even more so be it.

  • @ronneesam it's called musical arrangement. if we all sang or played the same as the original it would be a boring world, but on the flipside, if we did, it might shut fannies like you up.

  • It appears that 17 people have no souls.

  • Simply superb, gives me goose bumps.

  • WOW, how beautiful was tha,t simply awesome, gives me goose bumps.

  • As much power as God has, why couldn't He allowed Eva to sing on earth instead of Heaven. We deserve(d) her just as much. I guess she was truly an angel sent down to make us all happy. I love the vibrato in this woman's voice. It's totally, totally awesome, for sure!

  • @ricardo522042 May God forgive you for that blasphemy. Look on his works and tremble.

  • Eva's new cd, "Simply Eva" is simply beautiful. Just Eva, her voice and acoustic guitar. Stunning!

  • @wisewonder52 Oh my god....I didn't know she had a new CD out....I just listened to the little preview of I know you By heart...my favorite song of hers...and Im typing this with tears in my eyes...Buying this immediately

  • @fpngan enjoy! it really is beautiful!

  • just did

  • Eva beautifully captures the wistfulness of this classic song.

  • My Dad who recently went to God really loved this song. This is absolutely one of the best performances of this piece I have ever, ever heard! God Bless Her.

  • Happy birthday, Eva...something we will always share.

  • Absolutely beautiful. Her sensitivity to the lyrics makes her delivery absolute perfection. What makes Eva so unique is that she could sing material from ANY genre and make it her own. She 'got' it. For example, check out her 'Oh Danny Boy,' 'Heaven,' "Ain't No Sunshine When He's Gone," "Songbird" and any of her duets with Chuck Brown to get a true sense of what a diversified enigma she was vocally.

  • My god. I cant find words. Simply fantastic. She drags everything out from that lyric and drags me into another world. So intense...

  • Great voice, always the best that goes first.

  • this song is beautiful

  • @Gigchick: they all have wonderful voices that are meaningful? Beyonce? Madonna?? C'mon this woman was a musical genius, and from the heart too. -do you realize what a vast gulf separates Eva from those women? I think the comparisons are apt, especially when you consider the attention and admiration that soulless pop garbage generates. I'd trade every Madonna track ever recorded to have just one more Eva song as sweet as this one.

  • @downeybill

I couldn't agree with you more. Thanks!

  • I wonder if Eva would have ever been broadly recognized as a great singer after her death if it had not been for the recognition of her talent by Great Britain. Her voice is just beautiful. Her fame spread everywhere after The UK discovered her. She was not known outside of her home region in the US.

  • How I love this song. Such a memorable tune.

  • Sorry, gigchick 2, I still think Eva just blows everybody else out of the water...

  • Well said.

  • This is a beautiful rendition. Absolutely beautiful...

  • ABSOLUTELY STUNNING ASIS ALL OF HER MUSIC oNLY THE ANGELS COULD SING MORE BEAUTIFULLY!

  • Tennessee tears falling like pearls in the rain.

  • "Why did she have to leave us so soon?" I guess God needed her more.

  • Call me sentimental but this made me cry.

  • My thanks to Chris Biondo for recording Eva Cassidy for the World to enjoy; not just for recording her, but for doing it the way she was the best-just Eva and her guitar.

  • this is so beautiful... i found this song the same day i found my love. i stopped listening to it for awhile... we fought & we went our separate ways, still very angry at each other... then i listened to this again, & i fell in love again... now i wish he'll fall in love with me again so we can be together...

  • This was one of my mother's favorite songs, which she used to hum around the house. Hearing Eva sing it was a "moment"........... Thanks for posting it.

  • Oh what a beautiful voice, I think those people at the Grammy should give her an award for her works, she's a genius!

  • Rest in peace Eva...

  • I never liked this song now i love it to dead what a voice my God yesterday l listened to her music for 4 hours and had tears in my eyes for that time never ever heard a voice like it she will be my angelic angel for life

  • we all better thank u tube for allowing us mere mortals the opertunity to hear true greatness

  • Her voice just melts me!

  • A singer who might rival Patsy. Her voice carries the same raw emotion which rips at the soul. What sets her apart is the shear simplicity of the solo guitar and the shear perfection in its simplicity.

  • Joner888 thanks for the upload, ck'52 thanks for the share, and Eva thanks for the inspiration to be good, so I can eventually see and listen to you singing with the angels! You Tube thanks as always for both the space and leaving the light on!

  • How come the greatest ones all seem to die in obscurity?

Eva, you will never be forgotten!.

Every time I look at the night sky, I can see and hear you...

  • Why do people have to put down other artists to laud another? I love Eva Cassidy and I also love the works by Beyonce, Madonna, et all. They all have wonderful voices that are meaningful. Eva's life was cut down too soon. Thank the powers that be that we have the great opportunity to still hear her angelic voice recorded. I am sure Eva did not ever compare herself to anyone- her music lacks that pettiness.

  • @Gigchick simply a matter of opinion. I'm sure beyonce, madonna, brittany, et al are not offended.

  • @wisewonder52

actually, it's not a matter of opinion. research shows that though quality cannot be defined or measured, it is always recognised. If in 50 years time you randomly let a million people listen to eva and madonna and ask whose voice is better, it wouldn't be 50-50 but (my guess) somewhere around 96-4. The difference between the Eva's and the Madonna's of this world is that the Eva's sing because they have to, and the Madonna's want fame. That's OK, but a different ballgame.

  • @Gigchick they all have wonderful voices that are meaningful? Beyonce?

  • @Gigchick I absolutely agree! I love all kinds of versions of various songs. Do not care if they are "belonging" to one group or another. It is so frustrating to deal with the stupid narrow minds!!

  • @Gigchick Hallelujia! live and let live they all perform for our enjoyment. Look in the mirror perfect ones and critique your self!!!

  • @hubbadub21 Are you mad? Some perform for our detriment and their own benefit, Spice girls, need I say more. Gerry and the dreamers, The Mugshots, Lucy and the diamonds, The Stalemates, The Upshots, Percy and the pointers, Suade, Snotgobblers.

  • @Gigchick THEY DON;T KNOW ANYTHING ABOUT MUSIC IS WHY THEY PUT OTHER ARTISTS DOWN NOTHING BETTER TO DO I QUESS!!

  • @DAVEY500MUSIC or they simply prefer different artists. ain't nothing wrong with that, davey.

  • @DAVEY500MUSIC . Or maybe Cassidy is second/third rate!

  • @Gigchick Sadly anyone who finds Cassidy's singing drab and often off key has little opportunity for recourse.. 2 sites deny any adverse criticism. Beginning to think my comments are getting home!

  • @Gigchick WELL SAID !

  • WOW, how beautiful.

  • She is probably dueting with Mickey Newbury right now.what would I give to hear them!

  • This woman was fantastic, the vocals take me on a cloud to a better place.

  • I happened to love to sing. One day 5 yrs ago, I found her song by chance. Yes, she was not just singing ... she was telling, whispering those words to me. I can feel the pain of losing loved one, losing her _ the best I ever know. But then it's her voice that also soothed the pain I endure.

  • I remember the night and the tennessee waltz :)

  • the worlds is at a loss a true angel sings

  • she makes this song so heartfelt and so beautiful and painful. she is teaching the angels to sing right now.

  • What a voice! Tears running down my face. Love it!

  • sweet

  • Wow

  • I am so glad that someone told me about her music some years ago. I never grow tired of hearing her sing. I don't know anyone else I can say that about. I wish she was still with us. Just an amazing gift and talent. She sings like an angel and now she is singing with the angels.

  • I am really at a loss for words...Tears run...yet my soul soars with joy! wow!

  • She didn't live long enough to understand how influential and inspiring and completely beautiful she actual was.

  • I must agree, she has a beautiful voice, truly exceptional,, Amyksinger2

  • thewackermc.. brilliant

  • Music to break your heart to.

  • Eva Cassidy has the purest voice I've ever heard. It is a shame that we lost her so young.

  • her voice was as beautiful as herself.

  • been listening to evas songs this last hour ive never felt so relaxed and contented in my life her songs seem to take me back to my childhood days when all our family were together and we had our mum and day and we didnt have a care in the world sadly mum and dad gone now one of my brothers passed on and another 4 sibilings emigrated to usa thats why i could listen to this angel sing shes most definitely with the angels in heaven now R.I.P eva you will not be forgotten

  • Great singer, awesome voice. How, when and what age was she when she passed away???

    A big loss to music...

  • @MusicMadGuy2010 Google Eva Cassidy, There is a bio for her that you'll be able to open.

  • annnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnd.......now there are tears. Why do the good ones always have to go so young?

  • Her voice lives on in her music. Her voice is that of an Angels! She brings me comfort when I can't bear the pain I live with everyday from my now terminal lupus.

  • somewhere over the rainbow!

  • i like it this way best, just Eva and her guitar. has anyone else been able to make something so simple sound so beautiful? like magic. we all have to go sometime, but Eva will never die. and thank God for youtube, how many millions have discovered Eva here, if there had been youtube back in the day no way Eva could have sang in obscurity for long, but for her, it was probably better the way it was.

  • This voice is straight from heaven. Wow! The angels will be singing alongside her now. dear, dear Eva.

  • An underlying tone of seriousness in this nice version of an old hit song.... kind of gives it a deeper meaning... <3

  • Any song, any genre, and she sang it to perfection. Takes some beating!

  • rest

  • I've just found this lovely talent and now found she is gone. Our loss, Heaven's gain.
