@feeny45 I went to a transcendental meditation place in Boston. The folks there were very nice, but to go through the program it was something like $1800.
It's really interesting how most of Lynch's fans comment on here about how they like him, but TM is a scam and you don't need to pay to meditate. I agree that it is a total scam...its well over 1000 dollars to join....total BS. Close your eyes in a dark room and search inward...you are meditating. Do it everyday and you will get better at it and it will be more successful. There is only MEDITATION. You can't put another word in front of it and change the meaning.
I'm very interested in TM, but something tells me that you're right when you say it shouldn't cost money. It's a contradiction to say that a person completely separate from you can tell you how to dive into yourself. I really think Lynch means well, though. I dig him, and he's obviously sincere.
@deathofamailman The thing is, Transcendental Meditation is a made up term. It's JUST meditation. The same meditation that's been around for hundreds of years. They just needed a name for their product.
@feeny45 I went to a TM center in Boston (on Commonwealth Avenue) a couple of years ago. The folks there were very nice and sincere, but after the introductory lecture came the discussion of price. It was roughly $1600. No money no mantra.
What Lynch says is valid. The idea is very difficult to convey in language because consciousness is still quite obscure in scientific terms and an applicative definition of the state Lynch describes is so much easier to give.
I have an addendum to what he says:
As your awareness grows and expands it becomes much easier to be conscious and aware at almost every task including work. Well it is easier to do as little as possible but a steady stock of awareness is always there.
...so in effect do not think: You are a rich Hollywood director an can therefore can sit back. No, as he says every person, well at least in countries with a reasonable standard of living, free of existential threats, can do it.
Can anyone tellme why nothing about TM is distributed by internet?? All kinds of meditations (ZEN, VIPASSANA, MINDFULNESS) are very extended; but it´s not the case with TM. I would like to know why, i´m very interested in what it say.
That is not the point. The point is that if this is so powerful and required for every individual, it should be distributed for free or a small fee so its accessible for everyone.
@zelareka Obviously someone is going to exploit it, as someone does everything. Why would you pay for it? The steps can be found with any search engine. There are just a few people out there who decided to teach it and charge, just as any "legitimate" institution does as compensation for bestowing upon you their collective knowledge. You can teach yourself almost anything that can be learned from school, eventually. Anyway, it's not a religion. It's a skill.
@zelareka You don't need to pay money to get into meditation. Its as simple as closing your eyes. I don't mind supporting people that teach love and compassion and inner intelligence instead of violence, hate and greed. TM is not a scam or a money grabbing excercise. It costs money for people to teach it full time and to run centers where it can be practiced. You'd pay money for a concert or a movie, why not for a way to perhaps totally change your life for the better.
Neo1az, I'm guessing you're talking about shamatha. I wonder if TM isn't better for more creative thinkers where the mind is bouncing everywhere more frenetically than most. So, easier to focus on a mantra than something so subtle as the breath.
really i do ... David ... you ... everyone.. Isn't hard to believe that someone could take another person's life... What a darkness that occurs every day on this planet. SUNLIGHT BLOWS AWAY DARKNESS... thank you for your efforts David
where/when does he say you have to pay for it?

idiotic nonsense, that regularly occurs in Scientology-near circles.
I can't listen to this under-intell. nonsens
Power is only to be seen institutionally!
Ppl have to organize and formulate a common goal; they need power and influence TO influence
This conscious-based nonsense is the biggest killer of peoples-power one can't imagine!

Ignore TM. It is a marketing ploy. Meditation should NOT cost money! Read about mediation for yourself instead. You can learn without paying a dime.

a $2,500 dive within your wallet...
But of course who needs to rethink about capitalism if we can have TM!?

yeah, go spend it on a new tv instead, or piss it away on beer.
