@kaleidoscopeofhope Why must every punk video become a 'fuck Green Day' fest? There are far worse bands masquerading as punk out there. It's not necessary to start saying 'fuck Green Day' unless the point has already been brought up. No need to spout your diatribe pointlessly. Green Day are just a go-to band to hate. Have some originality, will you?
@RMcWhanAccount it's because they are successful in what they are doing and are one of the few bands who have lasted through the 90s punk revival. Green Day have always had people happy to hate them. I love both bands, and know by now that The Clash were weren't the most popular band ever. Johnny Rotten said that they jumped on the punk thing as it was happening, which isn't true. Neither is half the shit people say about Green Day.
@h8allday92 Punk is about being yourself, there is no "true" punk. If there was a true punk, he wouldn't be well known. He'd be busy living life and being free.
What don't you fucks get? Punk is all about being you , liking what you like, playing what you want, wearing what you want, and fuck what everyone else thinks. It's an attitude. When you look at it the way you dickholes do we're all a bunch of goddamn trendy ass posers in the end.
Green Day and The Clash are probably my two favorite bands. Honestly, they're both great. In my opinion, neither of them are sellouts and their music fucking kicks ass.
Fuck off all douchebags that question the authenticity, originality, coolness, musiciality, heart, point of view, background, upbringing etc. of Joe Strummer and the rest of the Clash. Not sorry you don't 'get it'. Keep playing that X-Box and dreaming of being cool, fucking hot chicks, playing great music on stage. I've done all that and opened for the Ramones at age of 18 by 'getting it'. So fucking piss off piss stinking cunts. Oh, and check out my Clash vid. Peace/love/Granola assholes.
@highschoolmusical841 Why does a simple statement of fact upset you so much ? Your choice of song only reinforces Strummer's hypocrisy- self-pitying rich kid signed to major label ( CBS ) for big bucks! Nuff said.
@rskrzyz Really? Big bucks? Do some homework on the subject man. Joe and the boys got bent over big time by CBS and their contract with them. I guess issuing a 3 record Sandinista back in the day for the price of a regular record was going for the big bucks right? Not only did they get 3 for 1, but its now hailed as a classic. Fuckin' critics are always 20 years behind, just like the rest of the fucktard World. Sick of suffering these goddamn lame brained fools and kids. Fuck me in the goat ass!
@pwyndam Bent over big-time ? Strummer died a millionaire....( do your homework) and Sandinista was a bloated, self-indulgent fusion of half-baked student rhetoric and inept white-boy reggae-so stick dat ur yr Joe Guevara: )
@highschoolmusical841 Revisionist ? Purely a statement of fact, old chap...And if you think an English boarding school is tough, maybe you should consider the joys of growing up on a council estate / inner city comprehensive in the 70s? Punk, for those who lived it, was a reaction against a music industry dominated by overprivileged kids ( Pink Floyd et al ) and a society increasingly subordinated to the greed of the wealthy and the upper classes. Revisionist? That's you, that is ; )
Joe's scatting at the end is fucking PERFECT! Feeling bad for three to four days Feeling sad for three to four more Feeling hazy for 45 minutes Feeling crazy for 45 more We been dancing all night long Waiting in the corner cos something's wrong Dont wanna get up and see that dawn like the day before A spliff a pound a half a pint of brown This is the way we spell camden town I shouldnt speed its not my need how can this go on
Not saying your wrong, the Clash rocks, along with all the first wave punk rock. but honestly you can't say what punk is now because youre not the ones doin it. Punk rock, is the expression of angst and hatred of the government through sound. and what it is now is TOTALLY different than what it was back then. punk rock was NEW in the 70's, and that's why it's so attractive to young people. no matter what it sounds like, or who's doing it. it's always NEW. so saying that new
@rskrzyz Actually, it makes quite good sense. Intelligent people that understand what's going on in the world politically, socially, economically can grow to be very pissed off at the world and mankind with its inherent hated, greed, hypocracy, religeous bullshit, and the pompousness of the heartless greedy bastards that make this reality so fucked up. But, laugh yer life cause there ain't much to die for.
ou,gee ! why are you talking about green day?!ou shit ! where´s "laugh your life
Cos there ain't much to cry for" ? The Clash is fuckin good slice of history and only band that matters ! like fans we know what means their songs ("heart attack machine" when I´m listening them) , but think about it - The clash is cult and as Joe says in death or glory "who fuck nuns be later join the church" ...The old punks can cry - punk is not alternative now.Green day only " join to church" they killed punk
Great song from one of my favorite albums over the last 50 years. In its telling of the story of the band, it reminds me of Van Morrison's "The Story of Them," which I don't think you can find on youtube -- a classic song telling the story of his Belfast band "Them," punctuated throughout with "Mmmm good times!" as only Van the Man could say it. Both songs make you wish you'd been there.
why give greenday shit, how can you call them emo, they have been aroud the punk scene 16-17 years, they were inspired by the clash, still little fingers, ramones, pistols, Greenday are a punk band and always will be, Punk was not establised before the clash, ramones gave the fingers to shit prog rock bands.
Greenday are an easy target, so fuck off and listen to disco
@1975johnnyrocker Thank you man. People don't step back and look at the bigger picture. Joe liked Green Day, you guys can look it up if you doubt it. Sure, you can call them sellouts, but people called the Clash sellouts too. People have the right to do their own thing, is that not exactly what punk is? Hell, even Green Day's new album is better than what they have on the radio now.
@78topper yeah punk is a way of life, its about living outside the square box, society says you must fit into, The Clash never sold out, they became supserstars, but joe strummer stayed the same. Rancid ,inspired by the clash, us bombs, inspired by the ramones and pistols.Dropkick Murphys inspired by the pogues??, who nows who fuckn cares, they just sound fucking cool, I am a punk it is what i believe in, I believe in Green Day, i dont believe in Blink 182, they are college boys who fool no one.
yh greenday now are are pretty poserish( a rock band game?? what the fuck??? )
and i dont even think they're brilliantly talented musicians, but their first two albums just capture perfectly scenes and emotions in my life. Their newer albums are not nearly as good, though their side projects are often better than the main band itself, but their alot better than many 'punk' bands out there, and their not a 'load of fucking shit' (or they didnt used to be.)
R.I.P. Joe. You may have gone straight to hell (or heaven), and you made the choice not that you should stay, but you should go, but we know that you'll always be with us, burning London and being the white man in Hammersmith Palais.
this band is a compilation of huge mott and hoople fans that admitted to writting the song after listening to all the young dudes a inspiration. all the young dudes, 1972, written by Mr. David Bowie, performed by Mott and Hoople
This has it all, riffs, bass lines, top lyrics: a fantastic progressive punk rock sound.
Long live the Clash(my fave band of alltime since hearing them at age 11 in '77!(sorry I had to put that in just to show how long they have been my fave band!))! Also, saw them at 13(sorry-again!)!
i can't understand what this song means...i love clash, but for me it's difficult to undestand the lyrics, even if i read them. boh. me la farò spiegare dalla mia prof d'inglese.
Song describes Joe meeting Mick and Paul.. Mick had the Les Paul and Paul was the Heart Attack Machine cause of his good looks. Joe describes the need to have a manager and a contract Hi response to all the punk who gave them shit for signing with CBS. Then Joe describes the shitty economic conditions of England.
I think this is about how suddenly there were so many punk bands in England who didn't haveanythuing to say and just did it for the money and the image. The title is a play on the David Bowie song All The Young Dudes (which was made famous by Mott the Hoople, Mick Jones' favourite band, he used to travel with them when they were touring).
Seriously, Joe Strummer enjoyed Green Day in the mid to late 90s and talked about them as Clash successors of some kind.
Besides that, i never understood all the crap the second Clash album always got, even from the band themselves...Very good record that I bought in a clearance bin when I was 14 (memories). I might be the only person on earth who listened to it more than "The Clash" and "London Calling" combined...This and "Stay Free" are awesome...
@dummytree Same here, many times reading those kinds of books about groups, like them, you got to put aside their editorial comments, because they make references to this and that-IT'S NOT THE SAME AS EXPERIENCING THE MUSIC in contrast to reading about it. So, leave it off, you'll be better and a thousand others, I imagine.
god this album is pure hard punk rock at its fineist love drug stabbing times as well when joe shouts alright "sonny just tell us where" and the cowbell and saxaphone kick in my word u know this band is one of the greatest of all time.
dude I got this album (Give 'Em Enough Rope) on vinyl and it kicks so much ass just listening to this song, English Civil War and Safe European Home blasting out of me parents Dolby Speakers is pure bliss, Revolution Rock!!!
@RockClassicsRamones Beautiful Man! I'd love to hear it cranked. One day I'll hopefully have a house and a studio where I can crank the living shit outta the Clash. Got the car for now.
your a faggot. the arctic monkeys are shit. the clash are the best end of! mick jones-no1 has a better understanding of music than him, amazing arranger musical genious just listen to that solo. joe strumemr lyrical genious, untouchable rhythm guitar, paul simonon - amazing bassist, topper headon - the best drummer ever, and a musical genious, can play countless instruments! wat can the arctic monkeys do? nothing just make 20 songs that sound the exact same!
agree, the arctic monkeys are very good. But i don't think they are as good as the clash (in my own opinion)but to clashboy177, to say they were all geniuses is to be blind ignorant. Mick jones is an amazing musician, and Joe was a great songwriter and performer but, to say Paul was an amazing bassist is over stepping it. He was good no doubt but he was no john Entwistle, and Topper never became as good as he should have as his heroin problem mean't he didn't touch a drum kit for 20 years,
I'd agree with you on a hell of a lot of that! However, i wonder what makes a 'good' musician? I'd say Paul wasn't technical but he was tight. As for topper, i think he was in the wrong band. Much more of classically trained style, you know; like a Jazz musician or something? The heroin put pay to his career too.. You're right, genius is a strong word, thrown around wayyy too much. I also think the Arctic Monkeys shouldn't be mentioned in the same sentence as these lot. Just my opinion though...
