that's purely semantics, i pretty much share his beliefs, but I consider myself an atheist.

It's semantics, but to most people atheist means that you're at least fairly certain that there's no God of any sort or definition. For the record "most people" isn't a term that exlcludes various nonbelievers. I used to go with the "modern" definition of atheist, which is essentially nonreligious or lacking belief, however, being an agnostic myself, I was sick of trying to explain that opinion to the 95% of the world who disagrees with that definition.
