I went to Brazil to learn BJJ with some of my fellow Judo fighters, and we all did very well, even against some well known BJJ champions. They never gave us any respect or acknowledgement but made excuses. We left Brazil. Most Judo fighters concentrate on standup because it is the way to the Olympics and the Gold.
Japanese are classy, true sportsmen. They know how to loose with dignity ever respecting the oponents, loosing or winning. You can watch the level of the brazilians by what they chanted about Yoshida when the fight was on. You can hear 'motherfucker' and 'coward' from the brazilian corner. Those guys are not sportsmen, just deshonored bandits, never can be accepted at Olympics. When Royce lost, they took a mess.

Royce lost that fight simply because they decided to change the rules from the first fight to suit royce gracie if royce was a complete fighter then he would have stayed with the same rules as the first and came back and dominated but he didn't do that here no honor no respect here you don't see a boxing match that changes the rules when there is a lost by the favorite chance favors the prepared mind more like chance favors the guy who makes the rules

This is how most real fights end up, on the ground. Watching how they move and learning from it may help you to defend yourself against an attacker one day.

@Balor22 In Judo, some schools teach Newaza, which is ground Judo. Some schools, like mine, teach it. I do very well against BJJ black belts, and I studied Judo Newaza all my life. I went to Brazil to learn BJJ with some of my fellow Judo fighters, and we all did very well, even against some well known BJJ champions. They never gave us any respect or acknowledgement but made excuses. We left Brazil. Most Judo fighters concentrate on standup because it is the way to the Olympics and the Gold.

Japanese are classy, true sportsmen. They know how to loose with dignity ever respecting the oponents, loosing or winning. You can watch the level of the brazilians by what they chanted about Yoshida when the fight was on. You can hear 'motherfucker' and 'coward' from the brazilian corner. Those guys are not sportsmen, just deshonored bandits, never can be accepted at Olympics. When Royce lost, they took a mess.

No, Royce accepted that Yoshida's Judo was superior to his BJJ, therefore he came without the gi, thus giving Gracie a huge advantage. First fight was BJJ vs Judo, the second fight was Judo vs MMA fighter.

I respect the gracies and all for what they have done, but most of the time they are way to cocky for their own good. I still love the variations for newaza they created. I'm a judoka and bjj practitioner so I'm not biased towards either side.
